i got a sound problem with my new Asus P535!! - General Topics

Hi
I got a sound problem with my new ASUS P535, in which the phone is all the time thinking that i'm using the headset even when its unplugged, so no sound can be heard even the headset is unplugged only when somebody calls there is the ring tone, but nor the mike or the phone speaker are working
Any ideas?!?
P.S. I'm using WM6, & I already tried to flash it many times for no results!

Hi,
I had the same problem with my p535, but I found the way to fix it. The problem is that the micro switch was jammed in the headset-port, so to fix the problem; you should just hit hardly the bottom of the PDA onto a table or other hard surface. There is no problem with the software.

I have tried this solution but it didn't work.
Are you sure this is the only way to fix this problem.
Also when i use the device with the headset, the sound of the MP3's are like you listen something under water. And during a call, the opponent's voice sounds so deep, i can hardly hear it.

Than you have a bit bigger problem, the hole port is ****ed, maybe one of the connection is broken or the hole port is moved from where it should be. It just happening with mp3 or with phone as well? if the phone is not working as well with the headset, than you have to bring to service, 'couse the port is broken, if just the mp3 not workin' than I don't have a clue.

It worked for me! Thanks a lot!
I thought my PDA speaker was crapped someway..
Anyway, I did not hit it, just plugging in and out the mini jack connector several times within a short time.

Sound problem again (mini jack connector replacement)
Hello again!
My P535 made a long way since the prevoius sound problem.
My device's mini jack connector has been damaged, and I wish to replace it with a new one.
Could anyone help me how to replace the mini jack connector? Unfortunatelly the oroginal connector was so badly damaged that it cannot be used anymore.
My device cannot play sound and cannot record any voice, but the speaker and microphone is fully intact though. I have to repair it but I don't know what type of mini jack connector I need. I heared that if I use some incompatible connector that could damage the device for good.
I'd also find out that two wire must contact to allow the internal speaker and mike to function, for now, the device "thinks" a jack cable is plugged.
Sorry for my bad english..
Could anyone help?
Regards,
Xel

well, I have a bluetooth ad2p stereo headset (platrinocs), but the akkumulator got busted so I'm in a hurry to repair my phone's analog mini jack output, that will will solve the speaker and mike problem too.
/hovewer, the wireless bluetooth headsets has a serious disadvantage
It cannot connect automaticly to the bluetooth headset when a phone call is incoming, or when you enter proximity whith the headset or with the device (if you left either on desk). i've tried patches and apps to make autoconnect available, but no luck.. analog output is much more advance then bluetooth high quality audio for one reason the hardware eq and software mixers/
the main problem, is that the old mini jack output is damaged to dust, i cannot recognize it which type to replace. googling the specs of the device did not helped me identifying the mini jack connector. I've learned that there are many types, some of them are used to headset functions different at model types, even differs at manufacturers.
Please, anyone could help I would greatly appriciate it!
bye,
Xel

check mini jack output, plug in and move a bit carefully the mini jack cable in output.
probably some air duster or contact spray could help too.

With my handset ( i plug my handset to my Jam), it works normal, i can hear everythings
And without handset, when i call and up volum sound on my phone on same time, i can hear some voice
Help me, how can i repair my Jam ( I-mate)
Do you have the plastic fake SD card inserted in the slot? This caused problems with the speaker on my JAM at first.
I removed the card then used the pen to gently push the contacts together in the SD card slot. This got the speaker working a whole lot better.
hi haimoon,
there is a speaker switch in the headset connector, which is not properly switched on, after using headset.
connect and disconnect headset couple of times, wiggle the jack a bit... it should help...

I thought it was this too until I found this thread:-

It turned out it was nothing to do with the headphone jack but the SD card in my case.

Hello
I followed this link. Connect and disconnect headset couple of times, wiggle the jack a bit. I don't use SD card at all.
And.. the problem still remains
Any advice?
Did you get a black plastic piece in the SD card slot? Is it still there?

well, i have repaired a number of o2 mini with the same problem.
you will need to replace the phone speaker, its generic phone speaker as found in nokia phones. it shouldn't cost more than usd 10.
or did you drop your phone before that?
if that's the case, you could have dislocated connectors to mainboard.
it's quite to fix, as long as you know how to open your pda.
there's been a thread on this...somewhere.

PLEASE HELP!!!Treo 750 and audio socket problem

Hi guys! Hope you can give me a hand on this...
I´ve been got my palm treo 750 since last March and everything goes really good with it, in fact i love it, but 2 days ago i plugged the headphones in it and only could listen through the speaker of the treo. I tried it sometimes more but nothing happened, the only way it works is to plug the headphones and do a soft-reset, when it starts i can listen to music or whatever through the headphones, and when i disconnect them and turn it off for a while, it happens again, so i have to do another soft-reset with the headphones plugged to listen though the headphones again.
1) I suppose it´s a hardware malfunctioning stuff, but maybe it´s not copmletely broken and could work fine with a soft appl, is that possible?
2) If not, does any one have specific photos and info about how to do the surgery?
3) In case i do the surgery, is it possible to change the socket from 2.5 to 3.5 mm? I mean, it´s only a hardware situation or do I have to install or change something in the treo´s software.
Anything would be great except take it to the technical service bc it could take a very long time to get it back, and i use to need it daily.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE
You may want to take a look at this site...
http://treotricks.blogspot.com/2006/01/treo-650-audio-jack-fix-part-1.html
Also, I had my headset jack stick and I used WD-40 lubricant applied to the inside of the jack using the headset plug repeatedly dipped in the WD-40 and inserted in the jack.
I've had no problem since the WD-40 released the stuck jack and my audio was restored.
Good luck, either way!

hello, thanks for replying, but it´s the same way to fix it on treo 750 (700w)? I would prefer fix it by myself bc I don´t even kive in the US so, and my treo still as warranty, but dont want to send to technical service bc this could take a long time.
is there any application such as headcold v1 but for windows mobile?
I think in my case could be repaired by software bc when I do a soft-reset with the headphones plugged it works perfectly again.
SOLVED!!!
I just used WD-40 to clean the audio socket but i think that was not the solution. the thing is very simple.
From my point of view I think when the handheld is turned off, you should plug the headphones, and turn the device on with the headphones plugged in, and this should work.
my problem was i used to plugged them in when the device was on, and in this situation the socket does NOT recognize the headphones properly, so just plug them when the palm is OFF.
sounds a silly thing but in my case it worked
hope this help anyone who needs it

Problem with sound! Need help.

I bought yesterday an XDA Exec w/o sound.I changed rom, radio and there was still no sound. Today i opened it, and.. There was sound for few seconds! but only few, now its still w/o sound..
What can it be?
Sounds like thers a loose connection inside the uni
Should be a harware problem... or some sort of loose connection inside the uni
as you said, when u opened it there was a sound for few seconds.. so the first impression is that, there should be some loose circuit connection with the speaker.....

So, I've just bought new speakers coz old ones were "masacred", changed it and theres still no sound. What else can it be? I think mainboard is ok coz there was sound but it disappeared.
and can someone explain me how to change mini-jack input in uni? i have new 1 but i dont know how to change it. Old 1 is whole in tin so i guess its broken.
please, anyone?
Try to do hard reset.

i bought new speakers & mini-jack, connected it to phone and.. speakers still doesnt work, but jack works fine.
possibly a problem with the jack itself, or the plug detection eletronics, IMHO
3.5 Jack
I had this same problem and was the 3.5 jack, what you should do is to open the uni and fix the litle pins inside the jack, after fix it i had never use again the 3.5 jack.
What happens is that the jack is "thinking" that the cable is plugged and that´s the reason why the sound do not came out from the speakers

Force all sound via the jack and not the speaker

Hi,
How is it possible to force all sounds to go the headphone jack and not to the speaker ?
I would like to be certain that the music I am playing on my Windows Mobile phone is going through the headphone.
Why? because sometimes I accidentally remove the headphone jack from the phone and the music is then going loudly out of the speaker of the phone !! very annoying !
Chris
Take the phone apart, check by the headphone socket for how it detects a jack is inserted. On my old iPaq the jack moved a tab inside it breaking the circuit to the rear speaker. If memory serves, the speaker wasn't soldered in, it fitted a socket, pretty sure one of my older phones was like that too.
Of course it'd make your device useless as a phone without a working speaker, and you could end up destroying your phone completely.
Try looping a rubber band around your phone and the headphone jack to keep it in place, or just be more careful, or get bluetooth headphones
I don't want to physically remove the speaker of my phone. I find the speaker very useful when talking at home talking to people.
The problem is that I don't want the speaker to be used when I am listening music on the phone.
So the solution would have to be a software one.
chris
bluetooth headset or rubber band are your best bets then.

Ye it will cause you cant accidentally pull it out cause it doesnt use the jack, but negativ is that it drains battery and i think its much, and if the battery on the bluetooth headset dies i think that it stil will think its on so it doesnt use the speaker, so thats the best solution, i dont think people here can make a hack for that cause i think its to advance, hasnt been a issue before and even if no one has made a hack. so i think its the best and maybe only solution. sorry my english hope it helpt
edit: hope you know that you need to use a bluetooth headset, and you cant just make the choice on the phone without use a real headset
So I will look with a bluetooth headset. True it drains more battery and this kind of headset needs to be power charged (so easy to forget )

[Q] Help! No audio via plugged in headset, not BT

Greetings all,
Just picked up a used TG01 and tried a plug-in earbuds type headset and it worked fine at the shop. Plugged it in last night and suddenly sound won't switch from the speaker when I plug in the headset. Currently using stock WM 6.5 install until I get a bit more familiar with TG01. The microUSB port is tight with no connection problems. Thinking I did something accidentally I did a Master Reset, but still no joy. There has to be a setting somewhere...but I'm clueless.
Can anyone help? Thanx in advance for curing this ill!

Hi
Due to the special USB multifunction, sometimes you can have problems if internal headset impedance is lower than usual. Try another headset and search on forum , there are a lot of information (search audio out, speaker problem or so on....)
IF you can't find it, I'll try to locate this information for you.
Best regards

Hi Pere,
I had searched and read in the forums of others having problems with connecting audio out to stereo because of impedance differences, and another's headset mic wouldn't work, e.g., so was happy when this 'smart-talk' headset worked fine when I tried it in the shop on my TG01. Later when I plugged it in at home, TG01 simply wouldn't switch to headset mode. I went back to the shop and tried two other sets, but they're the same model and neither worked. Wonder why it worked the first time. Do you know of a solution...cab file with a manual software switch, or something? I ordered a stereo bluetooth headset off eBay, but it won't arrive for another 2-3 weeks.
Thanks for the quick response!
Cheers...
It is most unlikely to be the TG01 which has a fault as such - but as Pere suggests to do with the processor controlled function switching depending on what is connected. The uUSB Port responds differently depending on the resistance presented across various of the 5 pins.
In essence something like a 4-8 ohm load is insuffiicent; typically a 32 ohm impedance set of earphones will work fine or if you want a universal adapter to allow plugging anying in the make up a lead with a 10k Ohm resistor between Pin 2 and ground and Pin 3 and ground. The effective resisance 'seen' by the device remains high enough to cause the software to switch the port function.
Incidentally, a short across Pin 2 and Pin 3 causes the device to go into 'charge' mode.
Just in case the Tg has got 'stuck' I'd recommend setting it to charge - ensure amber light come on; then disconnect charger, soft reset and try the headphones again. Also try cleaning the port and the connector with a drop of alcohol or electronic cleaning solvent and push in and out a few times to ensure there is no oxidation on contacts causing a bad connection.
There are no accessible software controls - is at the hardware / firmware layer level; so could also be worth trying flashing a different ROM which is known to work perfectly.
If I think of anything else will add.
Good luck and best regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
I appreciate your advice and just tried the soft reset with no joy. I plugged the charger in and once the amber light came on I unplugged the charger from the usb port then immediately pressed the white reset button on the back. After it rebooted...no joy. Next I tried the same thing but instead unplugged the charger from the wall socket while still plugged into the phone, again, no joy. I also used a magnifying glass and flashlight to inspect the USB port and it looks very clean with no corrosion. Hopefully I can find another phone shop tomorrow with a different brand of headphones to try. This is certainly frustrating. I just found this quote and it couldn't convey my feelings any better:
"Looks like the micro usb is designed to break the connector more than anything else. No visible advantage over the mini usb, which clearly looks more durable, both on the connector cable and in the device side connector which looks like it must just be a fragile ultra thin pcb board edge connector that you can snap easier than a toothpick." Kevin, thanks for your help!

Finally an Update
Bought a different brand headset and it's been working fine for a couple of months now. Don't know why the previous brand headset worked initially then stopped working. Maybe it was the wrong impedance, like Kevin mentioned, that caused the multi-function USBport to become confused. Still looking for a good stereo bluetooth headset/headphones/earbuds, but so far not sure which way to go.

I have been using the Sony Ericsson MW600 BT headset for some while now in conjunction with a pair of Westone W3 canalphones and very pleased with performance. Has A2DP and effective control of Core Player.
It's a while since that model was released but appears to still be current; havn't looked around other manufacturers recently, but may well be similar alternatives now to consider.

Thanks for the tip, Kevin, I'll check 'em out. I have ordered two sets of BT headphones, but amazingly both deals didn't fly. I ordered a pair of Plantronics Backbeat 903+ canal type earbuds that clip over each ear from e-Cost.com. They refused to ship to my billing address in the US because I ordered online from within Thailand and their system flagged my foreign IP address. I subsequently ordered a Chinese brand stereo BT headset from an eBay seller, but he actually didn't have the "more than 10 available" in stock and had to issue a refund. I've tried Motorola's S9 and their newer S305 behind the head/neck models and didn't care for either of them. The S9 has all the weight at the very back so isn't good for speedwalking and bicycling, which I like to do. The S305 model sounds better but doesn't have enough clamping force to hold the earphones properly against the ears so unless you manually hold them against your ears sound quality suffers. There just doesn't seem to be a great selection of stereo BT headphones. I'm trying to preserve the TG01's mUSB port or would just use my wired set as they sound pretty good.
Thanks again for the tip!
