is it possible to run the messenger without having it save all of my msn contacts to my phone's contacts?? It gets really annoying having all those entries.

well that sucks.... can they at least be integrated with my current contacts, meaning if I have someone's phone number, the IM profile is assigned to that contact instead of having duplicates?
I would be grateful for the thing to actually work. Since my network provider upgraded their internet offering to include their version of msn (going through their servers), it now blocks any other client trying to access the service. Skype works though.
EDIT: Got it to work - grabbed my wife's new O2 SIM and was able to set up WLM and log in. Then I placed my 3 SIM in and it now works

Just got my TC tonight and I cant put it down. I LOVE this device. Ive never had a WM phone before but have played with them without any desire to own one. Well I really like how much can be optimized and configured, and thats not even considering all the tweaks found here.
Anyway, my current issue is that I cant get my yahoo email to work. Now, it could be that Im coming from a Blackberry Curve so my phone package is the blackberry BIS. Would this inhibit me getting my email? If so, do I have to call up ATT tomorrow and get set up on the smartphone program instead?
The POP/IMAP email access requires a normal dataplan... After that the device can configure itself for the mail access (after you enter you email adrdess in the new account creation). But if you want better useability, and more security than you should configure it manually whith IMAP access... if Yahoo! supports it...

I like my BB Curve better. I guess I have way too many things against me as a Mac user also. Its a neat phone but not what I really want.
yahoo/gmail issues
I am having a weird problem. When connected over wifi, yahoo and google connect and download mail like you'd expect.
When connected to 3G or Gprs network google and yahoo fail to connect. The phone tries to make another connection, like it does not know there is already a data connection.
I know my data connection is good at 3G, because I surf the web all day...
Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

Had to uncheck the "use proxy" setting on the connection profile under "proxy"
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can help.. I have a HTC Touch Pro and have email setup to come straight through to my phone... i can send and recieve emails fine but once i've recieved them and they're in my inbox... after a while they automatically delete themselves..
Does anyone know if there is a setting somewhere which allows you to have the option of keeping the mail in the inbox until you delete it yourself?

Does it actually delete from your email account or just not show up on the phone? I think it only looks at recent emails, that's why they disappear.
Nah it doesn't delete them from my email account it just doesnt show up on the phone.. but sometimes when im out and busy and get an email i leave it to reply for a while but it has gone from the phone...

Mine works fine with POP3 configuration. Do you use IMAP?
How many days did you select in the email settings? You can select 3, 7, and unlimited I believe...
The TP will only show the messages based on the above selection...
I'm actually using POP3 aswel..
and joeltje, in "Download Messages" I have "All Messages" selected.
The emails i send stay in the 'sent' folder until i delete them.. i would just like the recieved messages to stay in the inbox until i delete them..

How big is the total amount of messages? Maybe your memory ran out?
I know I can't get my whole inbox on this phone, it simply won't fit
do you only use your phone to get your emails?
if you use another program such as outlook or outlook express, then the emails will be removed from your server and placed in your local inbox on your PC (if you have this setting enabled). Then when your phone syncs with the server, since the emails have been removed, they are removed from your phone.
Re above: Certainly that was what was happening to me. I download emails separately into the phone whilst out and about but had the 'remove from server' option enabled in outlook. Therefore as soon as I opened outlook on the pc they all vanished from the phone - look in account settings and disable this option. You then keep both local copies. This option also exists in the Touch Pro email account settings, if enabled then any emails deleted from your phone will not appear in outlook later!

Are you guys using gmail by any chance? If so, you need to make sure that pop3 is enabled for all messages, otherwise they will be erased off your device if they've been read.

Mine dont....and Im set up as imap
I'd like to know a solution to this too. My Pro seems to retrieve the latest messages and delete older ones from my inbox.
Is there any setting misconfig here. I set mine to 7 days.
Now I have seen the setting but now that I read this thread I cand find it. It has to do with Active sync.
There is option to clean mail box on active sync or WDM I f I find it I will update it.
If anyone is having this problem with gmail, type in "recent:" before your gmail username in the settings and it will go away. The only side effect is that your sent messages go to your inbox too. Not the perfect solution, but better than not seeing any messages at all.
what is the email account? sounds like you're using pop.

Its hard for me to find a solution because sometimes it works fine sometimes it doesnt..

i also have a yahoo account and i've tried all major im client software on my leo.
beejive is my favorite but it is in permanent beta and has no client support for wm. sometimes it works fine but sometimes it doesn't work for days.
in my opinion the best overall is palringo. the most annoying thing is that sound notification doesn't work in standby so you won't know when you have an incoming message.
to install:
1. go to www.palringo.com and create an account
2. download the installation file for wm (.cab)
3. install the cab from your device
4. run palringo

I use the OZIM app from the TMOUS apps sticky and its really good, works brilliantly all the time but doesnt do as many different ones as nimbuzz for eg... but still a great app...

Just wanted to add to your post. This app also uses sms and not data to send the IM's. You are correct, it is not fancy. But it can stay running in the background of your phone and hardly affects the battery life. Palringo which I use also just kills it quickly. And since OXIM uses sms it is great for those with limited data plans. It just uses cellular data to login and load the buddy list. A must have for a backup IM service.

ahh my data connects and I am pretty sure the sms doesnt get used, but I have an unlimited plan for both so no bother there... I also noticed that the battery seems very good using it compared to im or others...
Looks like it is only possible to chat via your main Live Messenger Account in Mango.. I have an older secondary account with about 100 contacts and I see nothing in the messages tile for them even when I know they are online... My primary account I use for Xbox Live and Zune... with no Live Messenger contacts.. Obviously both accounts work ok for email..
Am I missing something???

Nope, you're actually not missing anything. Chat will only work for your primary live id.

just like xbox live only works for primary live id... why wouldnt use ur older one as primary ?
I have the same problem. I am from India and I had set up a new live id with a fake US address when I got wp7 last year so that I could use the app store and other features. Though I use another live id as my main live id and have been using that since ages. So all my contacts, etc. are on that ID.
Now I can't use that ID on mango to logon to messenger. That sucks.
Any work around for that?

That is, aside from downloading a separate app like Messenger by Miyowa and logging in with that.

All my contacts are saved with prefix +44 and synced through aquamail to exchange. When someone calling me it shows just number without prefix (ie 0773443..) therefore not picking up the contact name. It start happening recently. I've cleared dialer, phone, contact storage data- no help. Any suggestions?

its easy if you have the contacts synced with google so that you can edit from the bowser and in google contacts you can have multiple numbers in 1 contact you so you have to change them then your in a other country
I use exchange, no google contacts. Simple reason it is in sync with outlook without crappy plugins etc. It sync with all my company software. I am looking for fix not for way around. Also cannot reset my phone. Re-setup require 2 days work. Too much 2step auth, accounts, data. I just need to know which process is responsible for matching so I could just clear data of it.
Amazing oneplus support told me to wipe dalvik hahah if not help wipe phone. Useless.

BUT, you do understand that there is a option to auto put in the country code in the dialer menu right? So if you have the phone numbers saved correctly then when you go to a other country then it will put in the country code etc automaticly.
