Combination of OS and Radio - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

It seems they can't be freely combined. Shortly after I got my Kaiser I changed my ROM to HTC's (Shipping version GER), because I don't really like Orange's.
Anyways I also changed to Radio 1.27.12.29, and I had problems with Standby of deaths.
Today, by chance, I installed Radio 1.27.14.09, and it seemed fine, but now the sound was gone :S
Anyways, I find this rather weird. I could always combine any Radio with any Rom on my SPV m3100 without any problems. I've got the Radio it came with (.12.11) back on and I think it's fine now. Could it be device-specific?
Maybe someone's already written this somewhere, I didn't bother to check. Just thought I'd let you guys know...

Correct, the radio version and the RIL (Radio Interface Layer) module in the OS must match. I believe sleuth wrote it already somewhere.

1.27.14.09 radio only works with the latest AT&T os.
You can use any other radio except .14.09, unless you flash it with dutty's tilt touch flo rom or any other generic AT&T rom.

Kaiser Radios [OFFICIALLY A DEAD THREAD]

This thread is WAAAAY out of date and I haven't had time to update. Please check out AllTheWay's post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182
I'd say stickie this, with each having an agreed upon description, i know you can find them in the wiki, but these are some of the most asked questions/problems people come up with in new ROM threads.
As mention in this thread, there is even a newer 1.27.12.29 Radio version out but unfortunately nobody has dumped it yet...
ponch92 said:
There are currently 3 radios out there on the threads:
1. 1.27.14.09
2. 1.27.12.17
3. 1.27.12.11
1. I believe this one is the new ATT only radio that apparently upgrades some reception and performance but I haven't really seen it.
2. I haven't tried this one but I think it should work with all Kaisers, I don't know.
3. This was the radio that came with my ATT TILT and I think the default radio for most of these ROMs.
Does anyone have a better explination and/or performance reports? I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread so people know what these radios are and where to get them.

AT&T User here in Sacramento, CA.
Honestly 1.27.12.17 radio gives me the best reception over all of them. I also connect to GPRS and 3G quicker. Call quality and overall reception is much improved over the other two radios.
It might be a good idea to mention that Radio 1) 1.27.14.09 is only compatible with the ATT rom aku 0.4.4 build 18128. This is because the the both this radio and rom include new drivers that can only produce sound when used together.
So if someone is using 1.27.14.09 with any other ROM than the unreleased Att build 18128, they will not have any sound.

I understand that the 1.27.12.xx radios can't be used with the AT&T 1.60 rom, but what about the other way around? Can the 1.27.12.17 radio be used with the AT&T 1.60 (stock, not custom) rom? Or does the 1.60 ROM require the newer 1.27.14.09 radio due to the drivers?
Good note, I'll put it in.

For some strange reason...The newest ATT ROM requires you to have 1.27.14.09. I don't know specifically why this is the case but if you do not use that ratio with the new AT&T ROM it will not work. Vice Versa if you use that newest AT&T radio 1.27.14.09 with a HTC ROM you will get no sound. Just read the 1st post and it will solve all your problems.
Ah this thread certainly helps clear some things up. I couldn't figure out this whole radio problem - but having it laid out like this makes it clear.
So does anyone know the advantage of the newest AT&T Radio? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems you have to use an older version of the OS to get a newer version of the radio... ?
It should also be noted that you can get other undesirable effects other besides no sound when using 1.27.14.09 on a ROM that isn't based on AKU 0.4.4
So far I've experienced:
-- Camera not working, shows black image and touchscreen functionality messed up in Camera app (Dutty's New Build + CE OS No.6)
-- Unable to get past HTC logo screen until power timeout, then pixelated garbage fills screen (Gullum Kaiser Touch I)
It might be prudent for ROM cookers to integrate the correct radio into their ROM's for the time being so we don't get a flood of people freaking out that their cameras are broken or their units are bricked.
It remains to be seen if the 1.27.14.09 radio is a one-off, or will be the standard for all new ROMs. Who knows, it may also represent a permanent split between Tilt-based and TYTN II-based ROMs in the future.

Right you are. It seems like this .09 radio is an ATT only thing right now. Hopefully we'll all join in radio cooked harmony soon. I haven't noticed much of a difference between the ones I've tried. I'm currently using 1.27.12.17 with Dutty's newest rom and I was using the .09 with CUSTEL's Rom yesterday... I don't see a difference. Some people do.

You can read about this recent radio here.
This Radio hasn't made it out to main stream cooking yet but should be a general Kaiser radio that works with ROMs not using the specific ATT build (see 1.27.14.09).

FYI This is the radio I have on my XDA Stellar as well as it being on the Dutch Orange Kaiser.
When I get my replacement Stellar (dead pixel issues) I'll be flashing Dutty's ROM and will be able to confirm whether it works with this radio.

Can i please have some assistance with a radio please?

Hi everyone. Excellent place here. VERY helpful, and the information flows like wine!
I bought a at&t tilt, i have sim unlocked it, and installed about 4 different roms. I have ended up going back to 1.56.405.5 (radio 1.27.12.11) standar HTC rom version. I like it the best.
However, i am having a hard time figuring out info about the radio. The battery life doesnt seem to be the greatest. And my wifi signal strength is shockingly bad, or so it seems anyway.
Am i able to use a better radio with this rom? Can someone recommend something that will will work without any problems, but will be an actual improvement radio?
I've read the wiki, and have tried searching, but like a lot of other people, it almost overload of info. I would really appreciate it, im going out of town, and having this thing run at bettter performance would really make me happy.
I appreciate any recommendations!
ive been using the niki radio in my signature (downloadable in the wiki) in eastern us and have had no problems. letting everyone know where you are would help in recommending a radio
There are a whole bunch of radios, and there is no clear cut winner. As long as your radio is compatible with your rom, then you gotta test out of all the radios compatible with your rom, which one works the best.

to be honest dude radio performances vary by region; something that works great for me here in mclean, va USA probably might not work great for you. It really is just a lot of experimenting with different radios until you find one that gives you good reception and battery life. I believe that the stock htc rom is wm 6 so any wm6 radio will be compatible with the rom; just need to try, try, and try again to see what works best for you.
If you live around metro dc try the radio in my sig... but wait thats a windows mobile 6.1 radio so don't

My cellular reception is actually really nice! my main issue, is this: i live in a condo, and last night, i went out on my balcony. i was about 15 feet diagonally away from my linksys wrt54GL router, and i wasnt getting ANY wifi. the only thing seperating my phone and router was the wall.
gps signal seems great, with Garmin. Google maps however, i cant get to find a satellite to save my life!
So what everyone is saying is that noone really knows. Im in Miami using T-Mobile and i just installed HardSPL and it worked like a charm. Now i want to install a new rom and theres a bit too much info for me to untagle at this point. So far i gather that some rom's come with different and changable radio versions built in while others work with only 1 version. Now im curious.... how does one install and change these radio settings?
can i just download one and install it?
is there any thread or some sort of complied radio proformances by region? how do these radio versions differ by regional location? i have so many questions....

seems like everyone has got a radio question today but here is my answer to help u:
u need to flash a radio like u flash a rom. when u download a radio it has the customruu.exe w/ it. key is to remember one thing: wm6 roms work w/ wm6 radios and wm6.1 roms work w/ wm6.1 radio only. most roms will work with different radios unless the chef specifically has it matched to one radio only.
for more info plz read kaiser wiki.
p.s. while flashing radio ur phone has to be sync w/ pc
>> I have ended up going back to 1.56.405.5 (radio 1.27.12.11) standar HTC rom version. I like it the best
radios 1.27.xx.xx are the only that will be compatible with WM6.0 ROM. Newer 1.5x.xx.xx and 1.6x.xx.xx radios will cause the following issue:
You are going to lose multimedia sound completely: no ringtones, etc, etc.
In call sound will be likely still functional, but I don't belive that this is something you are looking forward to anyway.
I cannot recommend you the best radio for you ROM, but some would say that : 1.27.12.32 is the one.
I hope it helps.
I'm using dutty's rom WM6.1 WWE Rom. I havent changed the Radio yet. I've been using the ROM for about 2 months now and everything was working fine. But recently my phone won't ring. I can still make and receive calls though. Could the problem be because I haven't changed the Radio?

Major crash today with WM6.1 and Radio 1.18

Hi,
After using Ranju's WM6.1 ROM with Radio 1.18 I experienced some major problems today.
First I started to having problems with poor reception. Then one call went down and after that, each time I tried to started a new call, the radio would hang and I had to do a reset.
I would get the "Phone not ready" message when I tried to access the settings screen.
I tried reset's, removing the SIM, etc.
I actually thought the radio part was broken.
Then I installed radio 1.15 and everything started to work again.
Downgraded to Jwrightmcps Crossbow ROM Update 2.12.08 WWE now.
What a scare!
So if this happens to you, try to get rid of radio 1.18 first.
Unfortunatlu now my 4 GB HCSD is not recognized...
Cheers,
vma
well, ranju himself recommends radio 1.15 for his roms. i think radio selection is still a voodoo craft . it is probably dependent on many factors, some out of our reach. you should try and stick to the one you like (not too many choices there).
SDHC issue solved on page 11 (?): there is a cab to download...
Well, I do own 2 Universals now (and a BA). I used Jwright's .06 for a long time and was happy with it. Too happy, to update it to .08 for all the trouble it is to get everything as i like it.
It was on my second one, where I tried Ranju's ROM. I was really freaking out... Thought the phone was broken.
To tell the truth, the only thing I did like about WM6.1 was the message "You missed a call"...
Cheers,
vma
Me too had problems with 1.18 and downgraded to 1.15
Everythings fine now with the radiopart.
I never had any big problems with Ranju's ROM,
but now I'm testing the new PDAViet ROM and it's the fastest I've ever
flashed. The only problem I already had with it are some unmotivated
softresets.
Now I'm waiting for Ranju's 19900 version

The previous version of PDAviet generated unexpected reset too.
I changed for Ranju's 7.6 and now very stable (no change of radio 01.18)
The radio version can also depend of the network that you use (European, American...) but I don't kwon which radio version is more appropriated for which country.
For me Ranju's and 01.18 works fine, my SDHC 16 gb too
The strange thing is that Radio 1.18 did work fine for over a week!
It was from one moment to the other that I got this problem. Either the ROM got corrupt or it generated some invalid data.
Very freaky stuff...
Today I did not have any problem with the phone, using Radio 1.15 and Jwright's ROM, so it is definitly not a problem of the phone itself.
I have to add that I was using a cloned SIM during that week, but I have that SIM for a long time and it never gave any trouble (I have made myself two clones, so that I have a total of 3 SIM's: this way I can choose which phone to use, without having to replace the SIM).
Cheers,
vma

can you update just the radio from a stock rom?

I have a ATT Tilt, with original ROM. I downloaded the newest ROM from HTC for the ATT Tilt. Only reason I did this was because I was told it would get rid of the "button/screen press not registering unless you hold/press for a while." Anyways, it seems to have worked. Not 100% trouble free on that front.. anyways...
I didn't want to do any of the cooked ROMs mods yet as I'm willing to wait for the 6.1 official release. BUT I noticed 2x already I lost signal on my T-Mobile service and GPS seems to loose lock easier.
Is there a way for me to just replace the Radio: 1.27.14.09 with something else or even the original radio that I had?
I'm reading the radio FAQ and it mentions that the ROM:AT&T 1.62.502.0 (The one I dloaded) can only use 2 radios, the .09 and .07 radios. I don't see anything on what the .07 radio is or if its any better.

Thanks, that's the thread I'm trying to read/figure out right now. Lots of info. Thanks for the link for the .07.
Update: ok, read the 17pages. Ouch. my brain hurts. It seems GPS lock doesn't improve much and unless I use a cooked rom and goto a 6.1ROM with better radios, I don't think swapping the .07 will help. Does this sound about right?
Also, does Tilt really use agps? Should I disable that? I thought one of the posts said it worked better with it off..
For me, agps never really worked very well on the tilt. Also, igo and some oother gps programs don't work with it.
On a side note, there are some ROMs that would work well for you stability wise. Q-mobile 2 is a super stable 6.0 ROM. 6.1 ROMs have more problems but some of them come pretty close and do offer the newer radios like you mentioned.
The radio in my signature has given me the best gps performance of all that I have tried.

Succesful ROMS and Radio Combinations for BB Connect

I had BB Connect working fine on my Fuze, but seem to have messed something up when changing the radio. I originally had it working with the Stock ROM and Radio and than flashed to NATF's latest ROM (still 6.1) with the stock Radio. That worked fine too. I have since tried 2 radios with no luck. Currently 1.02.25.28 and previously 1.12.25.19 with NATF's ROM and cannot get it working. I still get a PIN, but am stuck on the Activation Screen.
I was hoping people could post what combinations have worked for them. Also, I am curious if I could be missing something simple that could have caused this. Thanks in advance for all who contribute.
I got it working again so I figured I would post my settings.
I am running NATF's 4.6 and the stock Cingular Radio 1.02.25.31.
That seems to be the best radio for BB Connect for me right now. If people could post other experiences, I am sure it would help people out.
This radio sucks, but everthing seems ok. Back to the drawing board tomorrow. If someone has a good combo to share, let me know. If not, i will make this my own personal trial and error thread.
