Best OS for streaming radio - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I use my Wizard primarily for an organizer/streaming radio/mp3 player. I am running Crossbow Reloaded 1.7. Recently, I've noticed that it bogs down and it doesn't seem to like to always connect to a tower or to my wireless LAN or if it does it drops the signal.
Any suggestions to a better OS (maybe more stripped down) to would be better in my scenario?
Any suggestions for better programs (Window media player sucks) or a better OS would be appreciated

Look for a "clean" or "lite" rom. You might try XM6r3 Lite. Its a branch off of my old Crossbow Reloaded series and is the "lite" version of the full blown rom.]
But if your problem is with signal, that would be your Radio rom more than the rom itself (I would guess). Could be your provider has moved towers recently (or they have a tower near you going out, or its been changed in some way).
Try a newer radio (like 2.69) but if you are on Cingular (or even on T-Mobile if its using the 850Mhz signal apparently from what I've heard) you'll need to use my WM6 Radio fix cab (you can find it in the 2nd post of the XM6r3 thread in my sig). SO that might fix you so you don't have to switch roms if you like CBR 1.7.
XM6r3 has HTC Audio Manager in it. XM6r4 (not released yet) will have MortPlayer in it.

Worked like a charm my friend. I'll have to keep my eyes open for XM6r4
Thanks for the help

WM6 Data connections

Hi guys, after digging through the entire WM6 forum, and testing some ROM's for myself, I found a common problom among all of the WM6 ROM's
There are some issues with the dataconnections via UMTS/GPRS. Let me explain.
Let say I have an open GPRS (or UMTS) connection and am browsing some websites. I lose my connection in a tunnel so I wait. When I come out, the dataconnection is useless, and has to reconnect. Thats the part where I it all goes bad The icon will say that there is no connection anymore, but when going to the connectionmanager and modifying the connection will report that the connection is in fact in use!
To my knowledge, there is no immidate fix for this, and ive seen a lot of posts about this issue.
What makes it even more cranky is that it can also occur when the radio switches from UMTS to GRPS when connected.
The commmanger is sometimes able to correct is by restarting the phone, but many times it is forcing me to soft-reset
How did you get to all this you may ask? Well I live in a small village in Holland, and what makes it a pain for WM6 for me is that my hometown is on the border of a GPRS/UMTS zone (IN the town, GPRS - 500 meters out, UMTS) Plus the fact that when going to school, I pass through a tunnel going under water thus canceling all connections
As I said, the error comes op when roaming, or getting disconnected.
Is there anyone that can shed some more light on to this issue? (Or in the best possible case even fix it? )
Edit:
WM5 does not suffer from this.
This is actually a well documented problem amongst some Radio ROMs with WM6. Each person will tell you a different favourite Radio ROM and the only real way to find one that works for you is to test them.
My personal favourite out of quite a few that I've tested is 1.13, locality UK. Works fine for me, boosted signal performance and reconnection for data is fine for my needs, but then I don't use Push eMail or anything that requires permanent connection so I might not be the best judge for that kind of stability.
1.15 has just been released and a lot of people are saying it's the best, haven't tried it myself yet.
There is a thread titled "which radio rom works best where you are?", contains a lot of post stating which is their favourite Radio in their particular location, should help you along the way. Sorry, would give you a link, but feeling lazy
Hope it helps.

I tried the radio 1.15. Like many have said most radios are country compatible. With me the best is 1.09 and i moved to it.
Also radios are interlinked with your network providers, th4 some work better and some dont. Thats my experience.
Tried them all !!
I've posted in just about every thread and must have bored everyone with my postings on this subject, I simply can't find a combination that works reliably under WM6 - none of the Radio versions seem able to cope.
It is interesting that this has not been addressed yet, it is a fundamental issue to using the XDA as a business communication tool.
It would be good if one (or more) of the excellent XDA Developers could try & solve this before delivering any more builds that tweak minor settings & deliver questionable value to a limited audience (I hope this doesn't sound like a whinge, it is not, I like the work done here & enjoy the new feaures).
Well done for setting this up as a dedicated thread.
While I was on aku 3.2 Jwright it was smooth as sailing with radio 1.09. After moving onto wm6 there is a feeling of disatisfaction.
few hangups, communication is not very smooth, missed calls occasionally and sluggish. This is being faced very regularly.
Well!. hope to see a good solution soon.

Ive been through every radio ROM from 1.09.00 and up. The one I found working best for me is 1.15.00 but the issue isnt resolved. It will still happen To see if the radio is actualy better than others I flashed the stock WM5 ROM to my 9000 again to see if it will occur there as well, but no sigar. WM5 is having no problems.
It happens stricktly on WM6 ROM (any version, and any radio) :'(
push mail best option
Hello
So which ROM is the best option for a working push mail?
From the above comments I guess a WM5 - which brings another question : which one is the faster/most stable, at least to compare with WM6 ?
From what I've read, Jwrigh 3.2 seems to be better than Helmi 3.5
A side questions: can anyone do manual activesync to mail2web with SSL enabled?
Thanks

My personal opinion goes to the Qtek factory ROM. It is pretty much vanilla and has decent speed and good reliability. The ROM works good with almost any radio version (1.15.00 is very nice)
As for WM6, many people have it running great, but I am having problems with radio stability.
Tested today again with radio 1.15.00 and the JWright 2.02.00 WWE Crossbow, and no luck. All morning was great, no hickups. And going home this afternoon the whole thing jams up. A little baloon stating that dailing failed or something of that matter. When I restarted the phone via Commmanager, it went working again but switching from UMTS to GPRS locked it up showing the baloon constantly
AFAIK, the developers are aware of this issue. Jwright did a few enhancements on 1.13 with the release of 2.02, it was better, but unfortunately still left a few glitches... Have faith though, I know these guys only do it as a little hobby, but they do come up with some incredible results 99% of the time
Honnestly - the work being done is truely amazing. I should know - I did maintain my own rom for the Sharp Zaurus 6000 so I can tell you how tough it is to fix small bugs - I remember spending weeks to find a workaround for a keyboard issue which was due to hardcoded stuff in Qtopia libraries (what a shame). I had to resort to kernel hacking to change the keycodes, then do the same for the console and Qtopia, etc.
I was contemplating to work on Linux for the Universal, but it is such a great device right now with WM6 that I don't want to spend time on that. I couldn't do much better with free software at the moment (except add more stability and run GAIM which can work behind http-proxy - I need that for my flat rate wap !). Push mail is a killing function.
Anyway, now that the network connectivity issue seems to be pinpointed to the OS (instead of the radio rom) maybe something will be possible ? On GNU/Linux, I would add a script to cron, to try to ping some IP, resolve a FQDN - whatever, and if the connection fail issue a stop/start to the ppp daemon. If this fails too, do the same to the GSM. It shouldn't be very hard to code on WM.
I really enjoy the Universal - good form factor, almost complete (I would just add GPS and more RAM). It is really useful to me in my "off-line" life.
Guylhem
I couldnt agree more on how much great work is done on the Universal (Or any other HTC device for that matter ) And I have great faith in the experts on this forum that a solution will be found
i have tried Jwrights WM6 ROm with 1.13 and 1.15 Radio, the GPRS never connrcts in Egypt. i then tried Darkforces ROM with 1.13 and 1.15 Radio again the GPRS never connects in Egypt.
i then tried Jwrights Rom with Radio 1.09 and the GPRS works 100%. i think there are some issues with WM6 and 1.13 and 1.15 Radio Roms.
does anyone have any other thoughts?
Ill give 1.09 another try over here in the Netherlands te see if there are any minor differences I can spot (Currently using 1.15.00)
Hmmm,
I've got two places were I go on the internet using gprs/umts. And it gives two different results. But when you look at the coverage it can't be a coincidence. Beause at home i lose my signal when it switches between gprs and umts which it does all the time. And at that adres the coverage for just umts is not that good but that for gprs is. really annoying.
But at that other place i have a superb connection with a great signal. and that coincides with the coverage.
So it means that what is important is how a certain rom handles the changes between umts and gprs. Which is already known now is the question who makes sure that the change between umts and gprs goes smoothly??

I'm also in the Netherlands (Arnhem-Utrecht) and I've tried lots of radio roms.
In my view it's true that wm5 works with different roms then WM6.
I've tried 1.12 (fixed) 1.15 and 1.09 with WM6
1.09 is in my view the best, 1.12 and 1.15 both had problems with the BT and the device hanging when soft-resetting.
I'm going to try 1.14.10 1.13 and 1.10 also to see which off those works best.

Crossbow Reloaded v1.5 - Released and Ready!

For my 1,000th post to XDA-Developers.com, I present to you:
Crossbow Reloaded v1.5
A Faria ROM Kitchen Production by mfrazzz
This version fixes issues that were found with the first release of Crossbow Reloaded, and adds new features. Just like with the first release, please remember that this ROM is a product of what _I_ wanted, so no complaints about why does this rom have this in it, or why didn't you put this in there. If you don't like how this rom is spiced, then go grab the Faria ROM Kitchen and make your own version. I am open to ideas on how to improve the rom (most of the changes in this version are direct results of ideas and comments posted in the original release thread).
Please Note: this ROM was NOT intended to push the limits on speed optimization or memory optimization. It was made to be functional and something that I myself wanted and will use. I've found it to perform at a better than acceptable level for myself, and so far Battery life seems just as good as any other WM6 ROM I've tried. If you have Battery Life issues, make sure you flashed back to an official rom before you upgraded to this one, as that will correct extended rom corruption that has been shown to cause battery draining. Also note that I've been running this version for about 24 hours and have not even used overclocking and found it to perform very nicely (so Overclocking should work very nicely).
What's Different in V1.5 from V1.0?
Removed Transcriber (actually this wasn't in v1.0 but I just want to make it clear its not here either) (Can be added back via CAB)
Removed VoIP (can be added back via CAB)
Removed Voice Command (Can be added back via CAB)
Removed HTC Zip (Pocket RAR does zip and works better IMO)
Removed PHM Registry Editor
Added SQLCE
SIM Manager upgraded to v6.1
HTC X-Button upgraded to v1.5 and now turned on by default
Added WM5NewMenu
Added SMSDRFix
Added DotFred's SoftKeyAppletEx
Added WiFiFoFum
Replaced Adobe Reader LE with PocketXpdf (smaller, lighter, and works as well in my tests. If you really want Adobe Reader LE it can be added back via CAB file)
Fixed Regional Settings to default to English (United States) and use a slash for the date seperator (M/dd/yyyy)
Menu sounds now work by default
Pressing the "End Call" button now does not disconnect GPRS but minimized the active application. Pressing and holding the "End Call" button for about 5 seconds will do a GPRS Disconnect
Internet access over ActiveSync (USB) connection works (You must apply a registry fix on your PC first. See the next post for the fix)
Added 3 themes (.tsk) and 3 Ringtones from what was in the 1.0 release
Base ROM Information
This is straight out of the Faria ROM Kitchen V2 so its a "fixed" version of Faria's "the real thing" release that was then made vanilla and that I've added packages back into, and changed/fixed/enhanced.
ROM Version: 2.18.0.0 WWE
ROM Date: 02/14/06
Protocol: 4.1.13.09
ExtROM version: Faria V5.0
There is no Radio, IPL, SPL or Extended ROM.
In addition to the changes mentioned above for what is different, here is a list of the other added apps that were also in the 1.0 release:
Notepad editor
Pocket RAR
HTC X-Button (turned on by default)
PIM Backup
Total Commander
GSFinder
MoDaCo NoData (so you can turn off data sources)
mUn Keyboard Skin
WM5torage 1.73
dotFred TaskManager (with registry editor link)
BatteryStatus 1.04.202 Beta 3 Build 0195 (There are newer versions out now, but I had issues with battery drain and other problems so kept the same version as in the original release as it seemed to work well)
Smartskey 0.56 (DPAD is set to 0 in the .ini so the up and down scrolling works in the Phone dialer as expected in WM6)
10 Button CommManager with Black theme
New welcomehead.96.png (3rd splash screen) to match first two splash screens of the rom
Requirements
You MUST have an IPL and SPL at 2.xx or higher (BOTH not just one or the other).
You MUST be running ActiveSync 4.5 on Windows XP (Vista comes with the correct sync utility, although there have been issues reported about Vista and sync'ing with PPC's so be aware of that).
Before you attempt to upgrade to this ROM, Please follow this thread to learn how to flash roms and CID unlock, and how to fix issues you may run into! It is also recommended that you flash your phone with a Windows XP computer and not Vista. It will work with Vista, but if you run into problems Vista can't talk to a phone in Bootloader mode!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
Recomendations
I HIGHLY Recommend that you flash back to an official rom before upgrading to this (or any) custom rom so you have a clean base (and correct any Extended ROM corruption you might have). G4 users would flash back to their provider's latest official release. G3 can use T-Mobile 2.26 for a good base.
Use BatteryStatus (its included in the rom!) to overclock (I use 260MHz), and the CPUscaler settings in BatteryStatus to set a min of 143MHz and a Boost of 273MHz.
For Cingular users, I recommend you use the T-Mobile 2.19 UK Radio. Newer Radio versions tend to have missed calls and SMS messages (just like with all other WM6 ROMs). G4 users, see the next post on flashing the Splash screens for a tip if you get errors trying to flash the 2.19 Radio ROM.
Credits
I would like to thank the following in help (directly and indirectly) with Crossbow Reloaded v1.5:
Faria for providing both the base rom and the ROM Kitchen that I used to "cook" this ROM.
Funman for his fantastic PDF document on using the ROM Kitchen and for answering questions and fixing bugs in packages I hastily put together
ADB100 for finding and fixing some bugs in packages I worked on
Molski for having a nice tutorial on various cooking tools and providing easy access to info at http://www.molski.biz
Everyone that installed and gave feedback and support on the original Crossbow Reloaded version
Many others here at XDA-Developers.com that provided information, tips, and suggestions that I used when putting this together
While I'm releasing this, I fully realize this is really just a repackaging of the Faria Vanilla ROM that is included in Faria's ROM Kitchen. Other than a couple of slight modifications, I don't take credit for a full "cooking" (although this one is more customized than the first release). This is more like taking a pre-packaged dinner, and adding the spices and herbs that I wanted for my taste buds. Believe me, this was not that hard to do, and I did not spend the countless hours that full blown chefs spend in providing amazing base roms. So a HUGE thanks goes to the REAL chefs that support our community!

The Black 3 Add-on CABs file has installable cabs for Transcriber, VoIP, Adobe Reader LE, and Windows Live & Messanger (slightly newer version than in Crossbow Reloaded v1.5). I've tested all of these on my Wizard and they work fine. Also included in this file is Cyberon VoiceCommander, Cyberon Voice Dial, VIjay555 utils, and a Slingbox patch (none of these I've tested).
NOTE: To fully setup VoIP, after installing the CAB from the above link, you also need to follow the steps found here:

Splash Screens and Splash Only RUU for G4
For G4 users, I've attached a zip file with the Splash Screens of this rom (since you don't get them when you use the shell tool). As I understand it, this is completely safe for a G4 as its nothing but splash screens (no OS, IPL, SPL, Extended ROM, etc, just splash and htc logo screens). I've also placed the .bmp files that make up the splash screen in the zip file so you can see them directly before flashing this. Before anyone asks, yes, the htc logo one is grainy. I had to do that due to size limitations of the file. I tried for a couple of hours to get a nicer version to work but it wouldn't display correctly (seems to have to be pretty low res / non-complex)
If you have problems flashing the above RUU on a G4, then extract this http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=29158&d=1152698784 and pull the nk.nbf file out of the above Splash Screen file and put it into the directory of this one and run this RUU. You can use the same method for flashing the Radio Only ROM (pull the nk.nbf file out of the radio only rom and put it into the directory of this RUU and run it). Thanks anichillus for that link!
Weather Panel Setup
See my post in the Wizard forum on how I setup WeatherPanel. It will give you a fixed dll with correct moon phases through 2008, new/better Moon phase icons, and a cool theme called Chameleon-240 QVGA. I dumped SBSH Pocket Weather after seeing this setup

hooray...?
i just got the last version all customified, now i gotta flash the new one!!
keep up the great work!
All installed nicely. This ROM appears very quick and comprehensive enough for me. Thank you mfrazz.
I had to be quick to stop all the T-mobile extended rom installing, after following your advice and sticking a stock ROM on 1st. Funny thing is though ExtROM is listed as faria V5.0 but it definately contains stock T-mobile cabs etc.
Thanks once again
MMS included?
Hey mfrazzz - did you include all of the Cingular network settings? Figured I'd ask ya, since you were going for a "complete" rom.

I didn't check before I installed the Cingular CAB, but I don't think so - it may not make T-Mobile users very happy!

Nope, its service provider generic. I just updated the 2nd post with lots of add ons (Cingular and T-Mo US settings have info there).
BTW: Unless there is some huge issue, I think this will be it for Crossbow Reloaded, until the new Faria ROM Kitchen V3 comes out. This one has felt really solid to me (at least for what I use my phone for. I'm sure others out there will find stuff I missed in areas I don't touch ).

Sorry, I don't have Vista and have no experience with it. There are threads around here where people have discussed issues (and fixes) for installing roms via Vista.

Yeah, pretty much the same with me. Just had the V1.0 version really humming and started work on putting together all of the fixes and changes I wanted to do to make this one. I've flashed more in the last 3 or 4 days than I think I've flashed since getting addicted in January.

Yeah, I abort the T-Mo extended rom running too (and you do have to be quick). Yeah, the Faria "Extended ROM' is really in the \Windows area (as I understand it) and not really a true extended rom (at least when I cook this I'm not putting anything in the extended rom). So yes, its expected you will see the official rom's cab files still sitting happily in the Extended ROM.
Great rom.
Awesome mrfrazzz....just awesome!! Keep up the great work, Crossbow Reloaded works great for my needs.
Thank you so much!
Thanks guys. Hoping someone can do a review of this rom for me after they've played with it for a bit. I'm seeing lots of downloads for it on rapidshare (and trying to get some alternative download sites for it going). I'd just like to get some feedback on it.
I have to say I'm really happy with how this one turned out. So far its been nice, quick, and stable and I still haven't overclocked my phone yet as it seems to perform nicely at the default 195MHz for me (I'll look at overclocking it again, but just haven't felt the need yet).
I hop this release will fix my odd problem i had with first release.
after my battery was completely empty i charged it, phone worked, after few minuts it just jammed and i needed to do a hardreset.
Anyway thnx for this 1 and ill post 2 HTTP mirrors when i have some time to upload them, think somewhere in the morning.
My first ROM
Thanks so much mfrazz and everyone, this was my first ROM for my Dopod 838 and I've had this thing for a year now. Never bothered to play around with it and was never really happy about its functionality until now... its ridiculous how much better it is compared to the manufacturer ROM.
Just so many lil things are better. Working great for me. Thanks a bunch!

mfrazzz:
Kudos to you for the hard work in prepping this ROM. I've always appreciated (and been a fan of) your patience and professionalism! Now you have taken the plunge into cooking. Congrats!
I am currently using Faria's RT and am seriously considering your Reloaded version as permanent replacement, but I have three issues that I am wondering if this ROM version addresses. These seem to affect all WM6 Roms for the Wizard and I'm curious to know if this ROM corrects them.
1. GPRS data connection fails to re-connect when recovering from a low-signal situation.
2. Device does not vibrate upon receipt of a new email message when it is in sleep mode and the ringer is set to vibrate.
3. Meeting requests sent via the device's invite attendees function do not display the correct date in the recipient's Outlook. They show only the date of creation/modification and not the actual date when the event is to occur.
On another note, have you found a way to send contacts and calendar items via email as opposed to MMS or SMS? I know about the workaround that involves initiating a send via MMS, aborting, and then sending the created file manually via email. Is this still the only way?
Any information is greatly appreciated.
Awsome release I just wish it was more vanilla..this is the closest I can get to a GOOD rom with out all the extra apps. thanks again
Thanks!! looks like some good work cant wait to try it out!!!...as soon as I replace the power supply in my box....lol
3rd Party Apps?
I'm seriously considering this a my next flashing project (I run many 3rd party apps and it's always a pain to switch ROMs).
I remember when people were first releasing WM6 Wizard ROMs there was a lot of discussion about 3rd party apps not working. Is it still only a small subset of apps that work or can I expect most applications to now work fine?

Need advice on upgrading.

There's a behemoth of information on upgrading roms... oddly, non of it's up to date, and it's all over the place... in addition to there being a "rom-a-minute".
I currently have a factory WM5 / wizard with the following;
Rom version: 2.26.10.2 WWE
Rom date: 6/7/06
Radio: 02.25.11
Protocol: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM: 2.26.10.105
My question is, would it make sense to upgrade? Would I see noticeable performance improvements? I'd 'like' to be able to watch youtube videos, and perhaps even load some of the cool skins (that are sometimes only available for WM6).
What would ya'll recommend?
On the side, I've used minimo to stream a playlist from my home PC, and play using TCPMP. But, that minimo is a huge {p}memory hog...
Recommendations? stay with WM5 or upgrade to WM6? or even just load a variant of WM5?
The critical piece of info you left off is your current IPL/SPL (you see those when you reboot your phone). You need to find out if you have a G3 or G4 before you do anything as that will tell you how you will have to upgrade (if you decide to do that).
Personally, I have no interest in going back to WM5. I really like features and all in WM6, and have had excellent performance. But WM6 is not perfect. All the custom roms have quirks, and WM6 overall seems to have higher battery drain than stock WM5 roms do (but not always). There are some excellent WM5 custom roms (Faria's AKU3.3, Molski's stuff, etc). And currently there is a plethora of WM6 roms (although a lot of these really aren't that different other than just what apps are added to them).
So my suggestion is for you to go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613, figure out what phone you have and read through how to CID unlock (if you are a G3) or use Shell Tools (if you are G4) and then its up to you to decide if you want to try this. Personally, once you try a custom rom, I don't think you'll go back to a stock official rom (even with some of the quirks).
And once you realize you are flashing roms every few days, you might want to check out the thread in my sig for our "help group"
READ first
I'd do a little reading in the WM6 forum and try to get enough info to make the decision on your own. T-mob just put out a nice factory AKU 3.3 ROM if you want to try it out. http://www.t-mobile.hr/mdasw/RUU_Prodigy_3821_382124_026911_TMO_HR_WWE_Ship.zip
The only issue with this ROM is that you may want to cancel the extended ROM installation because of the Croatian settings.
Thanks... IPL/SPL are both 2.26
I was actually looking for faria's 3.3, but couldn't find it (on FTP site or googleing).
edit: Yep, sim and cid are already unlocked.. so I'm ready to hit the ground running.

VidaOne Users and WM6 / Bluetooth Multiplexing

Hi,
i am using Vista Business, and im trying to sync the VidaOne sports products on NBD8.1 (based on 5.2.1437) and i have no luck.
When i use the same configuration but with WizardLove on the Phone i can sync with no problem.
So i guess it might be something with the fact that this base is ported from another htc model and something might be missing.
When i used Core 2.0n i was able to sync with no problems.
Im going to try every base out there to see if it is a base thing or a vista thing.
Does anyone uses this software on WM6?
and another thing...
When i try to use several bluetooth accesories at a time (like a2dp and Serial port profile (gps)) the sound does not work, or starts to skip a lot.
I guess this has something to be with the fact that Bluetooth 1.2 bandwidth is just about 700kb/s.
I wonder if this same issue is present with Hermes, that uses BT 2.0 (not sure with or without EDR) and has a bigger bandwidth.
Please excuse my enligsh, im spanish.

I have tested all latest base rom versions, and neither one works with VidaOne latest software.
to bad it works on WM5, beucase they do officially support WM6.
Since i am having anothers problems with vista (its a petty since it looks nice, and it is stable, not as stable as xp, but works fine), im planning to go back to XP.
I hope there would be a way to install ActiveSync over vista

[Mar 24, 2008] Boring ROMs 5.2.1629 for AT&T, T-Mobile and now vanilla flavored!

Updates
Mar 24, 2008 - All ROMs: Updated to 5.2.1629 (Build 18136.0.4.8), upgraded Smartdialing, removed registry hack for menu sounds. On AT&T 8125 ROM only: replaced Westtek ClearVue PDF with AdobeLE PDF Reader 2.0, Intent Tao Java with Esmertec Jeodek, and HTC PhonePad with HTC Touch keypad.
Jan 28, 2008 - Added vanilla ROM in kitchen form (see below).
Dec 20, 2007 - Original T-Mobile and AT&T releases.
Here is a ROM so boring, it looks like a run-of-the-mill carrier-branded OEM ROM with all the same apps and equally as bloated! This was my first effort at ROM cooking, so please don't judge too harshly!
I currently have 2 boring versions for USA devices, one for the AT&T 8125 and one for the T-Mobile MDA. Both are built on the latest shipping version of WM6 I could get ahold of: 5.2.1629 (Build 18136.0.4.8) from the Sprint Mogul (HTC Titan) which was released on Mar 10, 2008.
Why 5.2.1629?
This is possibly the newest real WM6 available right now. 19xx builds that are "AKU 0.7.0" are older eval ROMs. If there is a newer shipping build out there, let me know about it and I will update accordingly.
I believe PagePool is 8MB.
Your device must be SuperCID to use these ROMs.
1. For AT&T 8125
This ROM was originally based on a port from the 8525, but I've changed a few apps since companies of some of the apps are no longer in business (i.e. Intent Tao).
Apps:
ArcSoft MMS 3.5.1.24C
Cyberon Voice Speed Dial v1.2 Build ??????
HTC SmartDialing v2.5 (Build ??????)
HTC Zip v1.20 (Build 27216)
Esmertec Jeodek (replaces Intent Tao Java - no longer in business)
AdobeLE PDF Reader 2.0 (replaces Westtek Clearvue PDF)
HTC Task Manager (X-Button) v1.51 Build 30470.
HTC Camera v3.00 (Build 23027).
HTC SIM Manager v6.31.
HTC Comm Manager v1.8.1.0.
Windows Live (because 8125 had MSN Messenger)
Remote Desktop (because 8125 had Terminal Services)
HTC Touch Dual Keyboard (replaces PhonePad, it's a big improvement)
VoIP
Registry modifications:
10-buttons in Comm Manager.
SAPSettings moved to Control Panel (never tried it, but looks interesting).
KNOWN BUGS:
Wifi notification always says "Turn on Wi-Fi" even when it's already on. This is a WM6 bug that even the 8525 shipping ROM has (at least, according to threads I've read on another forum).
AddContacts.exe in ExtROM doesn't actually add any contacts for some reason.
AT&T 8125 ROM Download (OS only)
The extended ROM is not included in the above download. The ROM should work fine with the Cingular extended ROM. However, I have 2 flavors of ExtROM available. Both ExtROMs will change your splash screen to the 8525 AT&T logo and give you the AT&T theme, HTC default ringtones, and other AT&T settings.
Basic ExtROM+Splash - Rebranding from Cingular to AT&T, just basic CABs to set the theme, etc. NO TRIALWARE.
Full ExtROM+Splash - Contains all the trialware from the OEMOPERATORS of the 8525. You will get a bunch of trial software that expires in 30-days like XMRadio, MobiTV, MusicID, and other stuff.
2. For T-Mobile MDA
This ROM is virtually a direct port from the latest shipping T-Mobile Wing ROM. Basically, it is the 5.2.1622 core OS and merged it with the OEMAPPS from the Wing. The ExtROM is INCLUDED with this ROM and if allowed to customize, will install T-Zones and all that. HTC default ringtones were moved into ExtROM to make room. It seems to work okay, but there are some things I can't test like MyFaves - it doesn't even show up, but I don't subscribe to MyFaves and the Wing manual implies you need to subscribe to it for it to even show up.
Apps ported directly from Wing:
ArcSoft MMS 4.0.31.15
Esmertec Java 20070124-113964.2.1
Adobe Reader LE 2.0
Bluetooth Explorer
Symbol Pad
MyFaves 2.0
Apps upgraded/changed from Wing versions:
HTC SmartDialing v2.5 (Build 27526)
HTC Task Manager (X-Button) v1.51 Build 30470 (original was 1.5).
HTC Camera v3.00 (Build 23027) - Wing camera wouldn't work on Wizard.
HTC SIM Manager v6.31 - Original was 5.something.
HTC Zip v1.20 (Build 27216) - Original was 1.11.
Registry modifications:
Start menu sounds.
Items removed:
LockStream DRM (caused problems, had to remove it).
KNOWN BUGS:
AddContacts.exe in ExtROM doesn't actually add any contacts for some reason.
T-Mobile MDA ROM Download (OS+ExtROM only)
3. Vanilla ROM
This is a "vanilla" ROM using the 5.2.1622 core. It's nothing more than SYS, OEM, and ROM folders (it is NOT flashable as is). Just drop into the Build folder of your favorite kitchen, put your packages into the OEM folder, and cook your own custom ROM. It comes with only the camera (in the HTC folder) and CODECs (in the Default folder), although you can remove that and use your own if you wish. It does come with the necessary drivers and base control panel apps.
Vanilla SYS, OEM, and ROM folders for cooking (OS only, this is NOT a flashable .nbf file)
BUG REPORTS - Please list exact steps to reproduce any bugs that are found.
Sorry for the crappy screenshots, I don't have a good free program for that.
ALL FILES REMOVED. I'll explain later.
glad to have some fresh builds... thanks for your hard work, i'll post up any issues i find, flashing the nbf first then i'll pull it apart later. since you have both, have you found that only differences between the two are the installed apps? or have you found major differences in the default and user rgus? i'll report what i find after i pull them apart...
<edit>
Mirrors:

reduce bmp, gif, jpg sizes and remove extraneous
remove most sounds and rings to the least amount needed
keeping enterprise
remove dlls from memory map and clean
remove netcf and replace with 3.5
if you have any input about going further with this, please pm me, i would appreciate help or suggestions.
the current challenge for me is how to remove the dlls from the memory map so that i can remove the camera and netcf, etc... i have no idea how to do that and can't seem to find any pointers how to figure it out.
i've been trying to get the oemdrivers to extract with the missing files, but i can't seem to get it to work. ive tried builddsm in many ways, hand editing the dsm several times, and merging with the format of the tmo version. i dont understand what all the gibberish is before the file listing... it will build just fine, but i get a viewimgfs error on extraction. i have one more thing to try, but if anyone knows more about the dsm structure, i'd love to know how the system dsms are laid out...
_____________________________________________________________
Here is the aio radio, ipl/spl, and splash screens that i use after every flash after tmo 2.26, just makes it a little easier...
2.19.11_3.08_WM6Splash_BlankExt.rar
from the following files:
IPL_SPL_3.08
T-Mobile-UK_2.19.11_Radinly
WM6_Splash_Wizard_NOID
Blank Extention Rom
______________________________________________________________
in case anyone would like to try it out, here is radio 2.71
i used it for a about a week and i like it better than 2.69. the performance is probably similar, but it seemed to be a little quicker for signal, little better call volume, and a little less battery drain. i did say a little, it's probably all in my head. i don't know about any missed call issues, but i rarely get phone calls, just sms and email.
radio_2.71.rar
2.19.11 works for me with good batt life, i guess i just feel better running the proven one...
I ended up using the same default and user rgus for both the AT&T and TMO. I did go through each to see if there was any customization and there was, but it was identical to the customizations in the OEMAPPS rgu so it was unnecessary to have them also in the default.rgu. Most of the other customizations especially for the TMO ROM are in provxmls.
so far, the stinkular one seems like a very decent base. after flash i had i bit more that 29mb free, which for a 6mb page pool is very good for a stockish rom. also seemed very responsive and fast when using file manager. the glyphcache is 8192 and auto and 0 for the file system caches. i did try to pull it apart, but imgfs craps out, much like tnt 1933 official. so ill see if i can get the thing to extract and then mess around with it.
the tmo one is, well tmo with ext rom running, 27.5 free and without 27.58 . whee! i hate tmo.... anyways, looks to be a good base after stripping it and it doesnt have problems being dumped. maybe i will see what can be done with comparing the two, and paring down the wing version... the att version at least has still has sqm, so i have to take that out...
looks good gnat, very good for your first port!
Your awesome dude. This is great. I will flash tonight and see how everything goes. Thanks

ok, i lied... didn't check... tmo one has 8mb pool, so change to 4 (the best) and 32.5 mb free!!! time to start stripping
Sorry about that, for some reason I was sure they had a 6MB page pool, but it was a long time ago that I checked and I guess my memory isn't what it used to be! Both ROMs should have the same page pool so 8MB for both.

if i use the normal core pro, viewimgfs crashes but it looks mostly there... i just don't trust imgfs anything crashing
i flashed it and the extracted the os.nb with WST then generated the nbf and extracted again. Plenty of missing files (so no dsm or rgu is how that happens right?) but easy to fix... not sure what the original problem was, but i can play now
Why does the data connection to edge/gprs connect when I want to send/receive email through wifi?
I tried going into the command manager but there is no settings for data connection.
Is there some kind of setting to stop edge/gprs from connecting
and thanks for the rom
voip setup
Is there a friendly way to setup internet calling with this ROM?
I tried wm6voip.cab but it didn't work

Is that not typical? For some reason I thought the original WM5 did that too, but I can check on that later.
I did have a program to stop the GPRS connection over WiFi, I think it was Modaco NoData. You can get it here:

Glad to hear the MyFaves works! That's something I couldn't test myself.
Sorry to hear about the difficulties some people are having pulling the ROM apart. I'm not sure why there are problems, I can try to fix it when I get back to work. I might be as simple as I need to rebuild some dsms. Better yet, if there's demand for a vanilla ROM, I can make one of those too. I just need to know what most people want and don't want in a vanilla ROM. Probably best to leave the vanilla ROM in kitchen form too?
I'm on vacation from work where all my files are so the soonest I can get to it is in 2-weeks (Jan 7).
Vanilla Rom
My Faves, Extended Rom, Keep the wing ...., what you need to get the myfaves i their.
