I have just installed the latest Beast & Laurentius WM6 which is very good. However I find all the themes are a little dark compared to my old WM5. Are there any other themes which are a little less dark. I don't mean bright and garish just a little less black

hi there..
just recently, i decided to flash my wizard, which was running NBD 8.3 for 4 months, with a few newer ROMS then now i settled to th_undead's MFR2.0 ROM.. i did so because i feel that my previous ROM is a lot slower than new roms and the free memory in the new roms are bigger..
anyway.. in this rom (and the other ones i tried - Jaguar 4.0), i am having camera problems.. it's not that it's not functioning, it just doesn't look right..
because of this, i tried old patches to make it shoot better..
i tried to apply the ov9650 camera patch that makes the camera's white balance and light recognition better.. but it seems not to work..
after installing patch, i am no longer able to launch the camera.. it just goes loading the camera (with rotating pie and Camera showing at the TopBar), then quits back to the today screen..
when i was using a WM5 ROM, i can use the said patch patch and obtained good quality pics.. when i switched to NBD ROMS (my first and only WM6 ROM series that i stuck to), the camera impressed me because it takes good quality pictures (especially in low low light conditions) even without the patch.. i thought that was supposed to be how the WM6 camera operates..
BUT..
no offence, the camera quality in this ROM, or other new wm6 roms i tried before settling (like Jaguar 4.0 and TNT) is poor compared to my prvious ROM, NBD 8.3.. especially in low light situations..
is there a wm6 patch to fix this?
here are sample pictures.. the first ones are taken with my previous rom (NBD8.3) and the next ones are taken just today, under same lighting conditions, in the same angling, same spot as where the first shots were taken (these are all within the house so it is easy to recreate the shots, and without sunlight ambience - just pure incandescent bulbs).. notice how dark the new pictures are..
click the thumbnails for the original pictures
please mind that those are the original unaltered pictures taken from my wizard, using two different roms.. i just want to point out the difference in quality (white/light balance)
also, i use the same settings (in the camera.. contrast, brightness, flicker frequency=50Hz, quality, etc) but notice that the pictures taken from the NBD 8.3 rom is larger (file size) by almost double.. i checked the camera versions used by both roms and it is the same build.. maybe some other factors affect different performance?
tough some may say that the old pictures look bad because the colors are ashed up, but i think the first pictures (from NBD 8.3) looks grainy and blurred because it compensated for the lack of lighting (like in a night shot mode).. even though, a washed up bright picture is still better than a sharper almost black picture..
can anyone help? i really miss the camera quality of my previous rom.. maybe some can use the settings or whatever that there is in NBD 8.3 that made the camera quality better and port it into these newer roms..
i am not promoting NBD or Zoki, nor rebuking other cooks for their work.. i am just wondering what is special in NBD's camera that makes it shoot better pictures?
yes... ive also seen this happen very often. Even when you use cool camera you will note that the picture quality is very diferente. Perhaps of the camera drivers that are loaded in different ROMS.
I was tired of WM6 and went back to my carrier's WM5 ROM surprisingly the picture quality was overall better than with any WM6 ROM.
I've been using the AKU 3.3 ROM and the pic quality if far higher than the WM6 versions I've used. This most likely depends on the driver in the OEMdrivers folder if you are cooking. Change that out and run G'reloc before you cook, and you will probably get better quality. I'd try it, but my device is being used so much now, I don't have the inclination to start cooking and flashing until the summer.
Edit: there is a comparison in the beginning if you are interested in these two phones.
*** the comparison:
The screen is better on the lg. It has more vibrant and saturated colors. High contrast, it looks very nice. The first time i got the phone i thought LG made lcd screen with colors of the amoled (beside the black that is typically lcd-like, but also deep and nice). Lg sometimes has bug with touchscreen, like some voltage issues or digitizer.
Red blue and green, also white color is very good. Viewing angels are also very wide. Its probably good ips lcd screen, lg make very good ones. Only htc one x can beat it. All sony ericssons with bravia are much worse that this. Only samoled+ can be better, or newest ips slcd2, or whatever one x has.
Htc evo 3d has a bit more natural colors, and white is a bit green, or even greyish but not so much really. But lg is nicer. Viewing angels also a bit worse. I've read that it's a hitachi screen with sony bravia engine. When you move the angle the colors starts to fade a bit. Lg is better. But the digitizer is more sensitive, hopefully without bugs on htc.
3d effect is the same for me, both very good. But evo has more natural colors, not so vibrant (a disadvantage when you are used to lg) but has bigger resolution so that it can be an advantage, little less pixels (but are also visible)
Music: dunno really, at first htc i didn't like the sounds, but now it's quite ok, thou it's different than lg. Hard to tell really which is better, thou at first lg seemed to be better player. After evo's ics upgrade i think evo plays better but it can be a placebo (i installed the leak of ics - almost final, very good, speed is nice)
Camera: i like them both, htc is worse in dark, more noise i think, but camera soft is brilliant, touch to focus and many effects on ics. Video worse than lg imho, and no fHD in standard ROM (but it's possible due to a modded camera)
Soft on evo is fluid on ics, on ginger there is slight tearing here and there, but can be used to. No lags in system, like in lg, that sometimes system stopped, or during a game was thinking suddenly for few minutes. But games on ginger was tearing badly (soft issues) Ppl say on ics it's ok. Benchmarks seem to show almost the same efficiency as lg 3d.
Htc Sense is much different, very complex, don't appeal visually to me. I like the simplicity of Android, lg has everything i needed, smart dialing, notification/power widgets with shortcuts to settings (long press) very comfortable. Sense is too complex sometimes. But it has many neat functions, good browser, lockscreen, widgets, apps etc.
If you have questions tell me.
*** The problem : I think I'm used to my lg phone, i like it, even with its faults. This is for sure because of nice developers here. Also the screen is very nice, colors are very vibrant. It's better than all other lcds. The processor is also very good, nice gpu, good for gaming. It lacks the ram thou. Lg is has a terrible support, update will be late and maybe buggy. Buy it's a simple and good phone, with nice hardware. GC fix is on the way...
But now i have htc evo 3d on the new contract with operator. I don't like htc sense, design is strange, screen colors not so vibrant. Games probably worse than omap4. But it has ICS (the leak but official will be very soon) 1gb of ram etc.
I'm tied to this phone (p920) and don't want to sell it. But two is too many for me. I had the same situation with the Milestone. Sometimes it was driving me crazy, but i liked that phone in general. After 1,5 year i sold it but i missed it, especially the qwerty.
It's strange that anybody can be so tied to a phone, it's just a thing. I'm afraid that i will regret if i sell lg. Now there are many good ROMs and games run very well..
I don't like htc very much, but I'm torn apart, cause it's good phone but not that i really wanted (just it was a good offer and i decided that i must take and maybe sell it)
argh... I'm so confused... I sell them both to buy a galaxy nexus maybe ...
Lg is now very fast on custom ROM, evo isn't for me a satisfying upgrade. Evo is also not best for modding, cause on aosp camera don't work (because there are 2 versions on evo, on mine camera won't work in aosp, miui, cm roms, i have older version with 2 5mpix cameras, newer has 5+2mpix camera, custom roms are for newer one)
Ok. EVO has the cm9 that looks beautiful, and is fast as hell. So i will sell optimus, which is also fast and runs games smoothly, but dont have so much aosp roms and is difficult to mod. slcs screen is worse than ips, but i dont care anymore. I started to like htc. Compared to my previous phones it is like an advanced tech phone. And htc is best choice for modders.
Thanks for your attention, and cheers..
With pretty much all the current themes being black, dark or various shades of red, I was wondering if there are any good "light" themes out there for stock. I'm running Bones Stock and am using (and loving) the Note 2 keyboard, so it would be nice to have a light theme for that too
Has anyone come across a review that shows how readable the screen is in direct sunlight vs. something like OLED on the S5 & Note 3?
S4 was horrible. Note 3 is barely tolerable.
If the OnePlus is drastically better than the Note 3 in direct sunlight, then that may be what pushes me over the edge.
And I mean TEXAS sunlight, not some wimpy sunlight from other states.
Could you give examples of what screens are tolerable then maybe someone could compare? (with Texas sunlight)

I have yet to find one that meets what I think should be acceptable. But all the superphones are getting brighter & brighter each year. I'm hoping the OnePlus may at least be as bright as the new S5 which is supposedly the best daylight Android phone out right now.
It's obvious that not everyone cares about this aspect of phones. But I think it's one area that is waaay behind where it should be.
Someday people will have phones that are incredibly easy to see/read under direct sunlight and they'll think,,, "how did I ever live with that old phone of mine".
Just like how I feel now about the old 4" phones that I once thought were "too big". :good:
Btw, one trick is to use lighter colored themes.
I generally love running dark colored CyanogenMOD themes and they do make it much harder to read in daylight. A lighter colored theme helps a lot.
Some AOSP ROM's have the "dark theme" built in and allow auto-switching between normal and dark themes depending on light conditions. Which is fantastic! But the "normal" theme itself is actually kind of dark also.
I have a Galaxy S6 with this issue where very dark grey areas of the display are displayed in a lighter colour. I first noticed this when I copied over my background from my old S5 (i.redd.it/9ot00213jzr01.png). Instead of a smooth transition from the edge of the planet to outer space (on the top side of the image), there was a VERY noticeable halo, and you could clearly see where the image transitioned into fully black pixels. This was noticeable on my old phone, but the transition was extremely smooth and so you had to look very closely at it. It's also noticeable in the Reddit app. I use AMOLED night mode, and some areas, especially when loading in a subreddit, there is a colour that looks almost exactly like black on my S5, that looks way lighter on my S6. Is this a known issue? If not, what's going on? Can I fix it?
