Google Android mobile OS - General Topics

I think that we need to establish a new forum for this. HTC and Google as partners in opening hand sets which we are all trying to do?
I know that I want a community to obtain and work on this new OS and help develop it and pioneer uses for it. Can we get a new forum started?
Also, call it wishful thinking, but I have a bunch of HTC devices and I would love to be able to install this new OS on one of them..

Moving Nokia SMS to android cellphone

Hello folks,
I haven't found this a solution for this issue through the forum search nor a long search at the ultimate search engine which now produces a handheld operating system.
Anyways, I currently own an Nokia N95 and I store all my text messages on the SD-card. I'm going to switch to an android based cellphone (Samsung i7500 Galaxy) on monday so the only thing that is missing in my way of becoming a lucky android users is to port my whole mess of text messages to my android cellphone. I wouldn't mind trying hacky stuff so go ahead if you have and hints or bleeding-edge applications that would solve that matter.
I appreciate every hint you people might have.

[Q] Multi-user login on Android

Have anybody but me thought about having muliple user logons on an Android device?
I'm thinking with the Galaxy Tab and many similar devices to come it would be natural to share the device within the household. Naturally you wouldn't want others to log on to your facebook/msn/email etc.
Are there any projects aiming to do this? Would it be possible?
hey, I'm loosing it trying to find out the same for weeks now. Been trying to start a little project that would involve multiple users on a same device, somethink like the xp's guest user would be awesome...
can sameone at least tell me it's absolutely not possible, couse then I'd finish my search and try for something different, thx!
We just got a transformer tablet at work and we had to tie it to a public gmail account dedicated to this device but multiple users will need to use it and have it tied to their google apps account. This is a problem for us and the apps that 'divide' the tablet just cost too much for what they do. We have at least 4-5 people who would use it. This isn't a situation where we should just have a tablet for each employee. The scientific work we do requires so much equipment that it has to be shared and scheduled. The tablet is just another thing we have to pack up in the morning when we have field work on our project. Multi user android support is needed!

Need a developer for a controller based Android launcher

Hello. I am new to the forums but am in no way new to Androids or technology in general. I am looking for someone to help me develop a new launcher for android tablets that I will possibly use in an upcoming game console. I am looking for someone who is willing to do this for no pay. However, if the release goes well, then you will be given some profit for your work. If anyone is interested let me know below or via private message.

[Resolved] [Q] can i install iOS on Android

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post
I have a Huawei Ascend Y320 (Android 4.2 Jellybean, dual-core processor etc), and I have heard that it is possible to run iOS on an Android device.
I have seen a similar thread discussing this topic... but the 'how-to' link in the thread does not load the desired page
I have also found this through a Google search 'iosonandroid' However the page forces one to make purchases for products and services that I don't want and don't furthermore trust.
So, that brings me back to my question, can one run iOS on Android...?
Please don't knock me for this, as though I quite like Android OS, I need to access iOS apps, such as 'iMovie', and other similar video editing/movie making software.
Android has many apps for such purposes, however, most are merely clones of Androids' stock Movie Maker, which has limited abilities, and can be quite buggy. I have managed to find a couple of great video editing/movie making apps on Google Play, but I would still be keen to be able install iOS apps to broaden my capabilities.
Any constructive help would be much appreciated
Cheers,
Harry
I'm going to answer your question quickly before someone thinks it'll be funny to troll you.
Sadly I will have to say, you cannot run iOS on Android, some developers have found a way to run iOS apps on Android but they haven't released much info on that.
The sites that say, you can run it. They're all bullcrap and just want you to register and fill out surveys. If there was iOS for Android, I'm sure it'd be on YouTube, and here on xda.
So again, you can't run iOS on Android.

Thanks for that Glad I got a 'straight to the point' answer from you, I really appreciate that.
I have seen evidence of heavy trolling on other threads... which makes it extremely difficult for people like myself trying to work out a solution to a query or problem.
And yes, I did wonder about the survey/register blah blah spam on the 'iOS on Android' website. I am glad I did not go through with the process, as it seems especially dodgy considering there is no way of contacting the dev....
Exactly, and the thing is, there is no specification for the device. It just has pictures of samsung and htc phones with the iOS screenshot and then the requirements on the page is based on Android OS versions... And it supports eclair. Lol.
Maybe sometime in future some smart developer will figure out how to run iOS on Android.

[Completed] Question about creating an Android based Robot

Hi,
I'm working on an Android Based Robot, and I have difficulties to find answer to my questions.
I would like to use a SoC (system on chip, basicly creating a device from the chip) with android to manage all the controle.
I'm wondering what are the constraintes and limitations for using the android system.
(for instance can I use all the services such as android voice recognition ? Is there any declaration/fee to use android as OS ?)
I have been looking online already but it seems I'm not using the right keywords.
And it seems really uneasy to contact people from android.
Do you have any idea where should I look ?
Also if you have experience/answer, I would be happy to hear it.
Best Regards;
Hi !
We appreciate your enthusiastic attitude but unfortunately there is not much help here on building devices , xda is about software development basically rather than hardware
Some hint can be found here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-university
https://www.xda-developers.com/xda-university-building-your-own-android-rom/
More help might come from Google and other enthusiasts
Good luck !
Thank you for your answer,
concerning android I will have a look to the custom builds tuto,
concerning the feature I will post specific questions for each topic.
