Radio Rom Upgrade - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Ive read through the relevant threads but am still uncertain so thought i best check before i upgrade my radio rom :-
Do i have to unlock the kaiser?
will a radio rom mean a hard reset?
any other things i need to consider
thanks in advance!

BUMP
I'd be interested in this info.
It seems like milling around here theres alot of files and stuff, but very little telling a newbie like me how to actually perform the task.
Somebody posted an upgraded T-Mobile Radio ROM from the one that came on my Vario III, and I'd very much like to upgrade to that, without bricking myself in the process.
So any help to JPHCCFC's questions would be appreciated by me also.
thanks.
EDIT: I've looked in the HardSPL sticky, but it aint very Newbie friendly, thanks

Hi I actually have the same questions as the original poster...
I've installed Dutty's v3 ROM today and want to upgrade my radio from 1.27.12.11 to 1.27.12.17 and am wondering the following:
1) Does upgrading just the radio cause all data to be lost on the phone like when flashing a rom?
2) Do i need to do anything special besides just downloading the radio .rar file and running the CustomRUU in the folder?
Definitely appreciate everyone's help! Thank you!

You can find all necesary info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349375

The Rom:
-- No Radio Included (flashes faster but YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE new at&t Radio (1.27.14.09) on your device.
-- -- (RapidShare) (MegaUpload)
-- With Radio (It includes the new at&t Radio (1.27.14.09) which IS REQUIRED.)

all right, first get hardspl, then go for the one with the radio... i suggest you research a little first.
w/o hardspl flashing a rom will screw up your tilt
fyi, the one without the radio (think of it as the drivers for phone calls) is for people who already have that version so it flashes faster
Do some reading...

I would strongly recommend reading the sticky threads posted at the top of the Kaiser forums, especially Kaiser upgrading, and the wiki pages before doing anything to your ROM otherwise you could pay dearly like many others in threads all over this forum.
Educating yourself, at least in reagrds to the basics, is wise.

Yes, I agree. I'm not trying to flame you, but judging from your questions it seems that you don't quite understand what you could potentially be doing to your phone. Many of the things discussed here can ruin your phone and no one will be able to help you fix it, not even the vendor you bought it from.
....But how can you tell your Tilt comes with radio/no radio, I think all tilt comes with the samething, thats what I dont get. so can you tell me where can I check the radio settings on mine

The radio refers to the reception that you get with the phone not actually like a FM/AM radio. Different radio versions work with different phones / ROMS's. The newest AT&T Build/ROM uses Radio 1.27.14.09. All other non-AT&T Builds/ROM use Radio's 1.27.12.11, 1.27.12.17, 1.27.12.29, 1.27.12.32. Maybe that will point you in the right direction.
YOu can check what radio version you have on your phone by going to Start > Settings > System > Device Information ...should say it right there.
Check out this video on how to do a HardSPL. http://youtube.com/watch?v=UaCt5pUn6iI You can get everything you need files wise and instructions by click on the HardSPL v1 in my signature block.

Radio Releases for the Vox

hey guys i was talking with gonzo and he thought it was a good idea to make a thread for the radio versions for the vox so if u guys could upload what ever u have that would help us alot or just link us to them
I have already collected 3 different standalone radio versions. I will try to upload them today when I get time.
Maybe in this post someone could be so kind to put a tutorial or maybe a link to someonelse tutorial for "flashing" only radio part...
So the ppl can come here and have all the resources they need for testing
IMHO the post would be complete..and very usefull like the one you did for the New Guava ROM...and the Kitchen...but this is only my n00b opinion
i only got this phone recently... but ive had the hermes for a while now and flashing the radio is just like flashing a rom... run the exe and follow the instructions....
Well, I guess nobody here looks into the Wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=vox_radio
I didn't see that new part in the wiki ! Very good work!
I will add links to the other radios I have packaged.
I'm going to upload them to xda ftp right now
EDIT : Done !
nobody of us hasn't seen that part of the wiki...maybe cause it was a work in progress...maybe because i need a pair of glasses..or maybe bacause it has been just edited...(at least this is what the page says...)
But what is MOST IMPORTANT..THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS MEANING...maybe a mod should update the first post...whith that link and with the RADIO ROMs for testing purpose..
Yup and then doing something like his could be interesting : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358933
what
what does it change if I upgrade the radio version?
I mean what are the differences?
Thanx
Sorry if my reply sounded rude or anything, I only posted it in the kitchen thread that I have added that part lately. We still need a flashing how-to, so if anybody wants to do it...or edit/improve the other articles, feel free to do!
EDIT:
The Radios are here: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Smartphone/Vox/Radios/
OK I am done with the flashing page http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=vox_flashing
hei..i think you guys are great!! XD you frauhottelmann ,Dr GOnzo and...lastOne..XDXD
so i wasn't wrong when previously I said that we didn't find the wiki section of Radio because It didn't exist yet @ that moment..XDXD
EDIT:
Just seen your work...beautiful!! I think the only thing that miss now is the SPL part of the wiki...that's a lot of material in the related post...maybe it is not necessary but a little guide concerning of what is what and why some steps are necessary..would be the easiest way to reduce n00bs like me making dumb question to you guys.
so which is the best recommended radio to use?.
K I am running Gonzo's 0.2.2 ROM and I understand I shouldn't need to run USPL to flash a new radio? If I don't, and start flashing it hits 77% and the "Image is corrupt". Can anybody confirm I don't need to run uspl to allow flashing of a new radio?

You need to run flash USPL first, I just did mine and it worked. Don't notice any immediate radio Rx/Tx differences, but we shall see over the next few days.

No sound on external speaker after flash

Long story short, I was getting the white screen when trying to hardspl so I used the roundabout way (using softspl to flash hardspl) which worked and then proceeded to flash the new Death business edition V4 wm6.1. Unfortunately when I was trying to change the ringtone from the default I noticed that there was no sound, so I tried to call the phone and it didn't ring. However when I call out I can hear on the ear speaker. Has anyone had any issues like this? I would appreciate any help you could give.
wrong radio maybe... try to flash the recommended radio

Okay I just checked for confirmation and the rom came with no radio and I'm using 1.27.14.09.
I've got two phones with the same rom but different radios and different protocol versions. Does the protocol make any difference?
The phone that is working properly has a radio of 1.65.16.25
The radio is the problem. Any WM6.1 cooked or not needs a radio other than 1.27 version. Check the wiki and the radio link!
Protocol version should not be a problem.

Awesome, you're great. I am new to the scene so I appreciate the advice.
Also, I've been reading the wiki and the faqs but sometimes it is faster to ask and get a response. I do appreciate the help.
surely the WM6.1 Rom won't work with ur 1.27.xx.xx radio.... flash a 1.65.xx.xx or the 1.58.25.17 to ur phone and the problem will be solved, i think~
ur can find a complete set of radios here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182
btw, dont worry about the protocol

im not singleing you out but thats what pisses off a lot of the senior members. they take alot of time to develop what you use and answer questions and no one takes the time to search. this is why its hard to find anything on here you get hundreds of repeated threadss started and the original answer gets pushed farther down the list.

Changing the ROM of my kaiser...steps to success

Hi, first of all I tell you I'm new in this forum. Afterward I tell you that before posting this thread I read the different FAQs and guides posted hera and I search for my following question but I didn,t find any answer.
I want to change my original ROM that came with my phone but I have few things I want to know before beginning the process. These are:
1- Any ROM will work with my phone? I brought my phone from US and it was unblocked, so I can use it with any SIM from any company here, in Argentina.
The problem is that in the page where all the ROMs are described I don't find my ROM version. My ROM version is 1.82.707.0 WWE and the Radio Version is 1.27.15.32. The protocol version is 22.51.88.13W and the ROM date is 11/03/07. In the Model No it says "Kaiser". The most aproximate version I found in that page is 1.81.707.0 and the Radio associated with it is 1.27.12.11. What I want is to change my ROM to beging using WM6.1 cause the version of my WM is 6.0, but I don't know if I chose any of the ROM that are available or I have to take care of something I don't know.
2- Suposing I can chose any ROM available, is it convenient to use it with the radio that is associated with it or I have to continue using my radio version (1.27.15.32)?
3- If I change the ROM following all the steps that are described in other FAQs or threads, the phone will continue unblocked in order to be useable with any company or it will be blocked for a certain one, for example AT&T? Remember I am in Argentina.
4- How can I do to backup my current ROM and Radio so, if I have any problem I could restore it to my phone? It is supposed that if I do so (restoring the original ROM) the phone will operate as it's doing now, insn't it?
Well, that all for now.
Thanks a lot.
Guido.
My dear friend all the questions you ask have been asked many times and answered many times. I have a hard time believing when you say you have read everything .. because your post makes it obvious you haven't. Nonetheless i'll answer these questions here for you:

Yes "any kaiser rom" will work with your phone. But first you need to get Hardspl than you can flash any rom that is available here to your phone. Looks like you have a wm6 rom and wm6 radio. When you upgrade to wm6.1 you will need a wm6.1 radio. Most roms come with radios so you don't need to worry about this. If a rom doesn't have a radio the cook will specify that and most will often suggest which radios work best with their rom. To see a list of different radios available please check link in my sig for Alltheway's thread on radios.

i already answered this in my above answer. But to reiterate wm6 rom will work with a wm6 radio i.e what you already have; a wm6.1 rom WILL NEED a wm6.1 radio so it won't work with your current radio.

flashing a rom in no way changes the unlocked status of your phone.

umm okay you don't wana do this yourself as i don't think so you know how to. Most of the stock kaiser roms are available in the wiki and have links to download them. In the even that you want to return your phone back to its original rom you can download from kaiser wiki.
Secondly please do extensive reading... your post shows that you really haven't done your homework. A kaiser is a expensive piece of equipment and you definitely don't want to mess it up just because you were lazy and didn't want to first understand exactly what you were doing.
Having said that i wish you good luck and happy flashing.
Thesire...first of all I really appreciate your quick answers tomy questions. I have to confess I didn't think to get an answer so quickly.
Anyway, I have to tell you that I didn't write anywhere I had read "everything" as you say. Of course I didn't, all the time in the universe life would be enough to do it. But you can be sure I followed all the instructions that are posted to do before posting a new thread, and those include reading the FAQ of ROM Developing, seeing the charming video of "what to do before posting a new thread", search my questions, and I tell you I spent all the last thursday looking for any answer to my questions, but I didn,t find them. I am not saying that they are not, of course they may be, but I didn't find them. Perhaps, of course, it's almost sure is because I didn't know how to search. But I did it. I read about the different SPLs that I have to download, the different version of them I have to try if I have for ie. the blank display, etc.
Another thing, when you say that always I can have the posibility to restore my original ROM downloading it, I told that in the thread that appears all the ROMs my actual version is not there. So, I wonder where my ROM is comming from and who cooked it.
At last, but not for that less important, I want to really thank you for your and for the time you spent answering my questions. Just remember I'm a newbie and perhaps, someday I'll be answering a question from you in this theme or another, ie. communications!!! Also remember that for us, the people who don't have the english as our natural languaje, sometimes reading the posts can be a little difficult and can be reading something that is answering our question and don't actually realize it or don't understand it at all.
Thanks.
Guido.

That's crazy talk.
you rooted without knowing what Radio and SPL you had?
what kind of phone you got anyway?
Ordinarily I'd consider adding fuel to the flaming you're about to get, but I'm in a good mood today. Here.

I too suggest that this thread be moved to General.
However, if it should be of any use in searches afterwards, there might as well be some answers
Radio refers to the piece of software that runs the radio hardware.
The SPL - to quote a wiki: "Secondary Program Loader, typically, a second stage bootloader."
There's much information around the net
