Hi
I'm not particulary impressed with the TouchFlo interface. It seems very rough around the edges, for example when you reply to a text message you get an HTC message thread, but if you select to send a new text message the TouchFlo dumps you back to the standard SMS message screen of Windows Mobile. The HTC message thread view becomes incredibly slow when you have a lot of text messages for a single contact as it wants to load all of them, not just the most recent, which seems bad programming.
It also consumes CPU cycles constantly even when not doing anything which all adds to battery drain.
So I've started to try and get rid of it.
This is what I have done so far:
1) In the Today settings unticked TouchFlo, this gets rid of a chunk of it.
2) Disabled the notification service, this allows clicking on the individual icons for battery etc and you go straight to those settings/information dialogs.
3) Disabled the EnlargeStartMenu setting so the start menu is the normal font size.
Things still remain, and I would like to know how to get rid of them if anyone knows:
a) The TouchFlo style volume control still appears, I want the original back which allows setting individual volumes for system and ringing.
b) Dialogue boxes still have the TouchFlo styling, how do I revert back to.
I've also been able to add HTC Home and all in all the device is so much better and faster.
Regards
Phil
maybe you can try one of those "manila-free" roms that are starting to appear in the roms section.
HTC has changed a lot in the Operating system, that's why you can't simply turn off those "skins" like in volume control, I think... At least I didn't find until now a way to get rid of it.
Wait for a simple 6.1 ROM without touchflo and its touchflonettes (lol)
How did you disable the notification services?
Hi
How did you disable the notification services?

I used 'Task Manager 3.1' to edit the registry, under the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services is an entry for 'NOTIFICATION MANAGER', I changed the DLL key value to 'xNotificationManager.dll' so it wouldn't load, and this removed it.

You can disable 'single volume' and get the old style in TF Settings tab > Sound.
I'm with you buddy - see my thread on "Getting Rid of TF3D" for more info.
Loving my TD2 without TF3D - it's been a few weeks now and there's absolutely nothing I miss about TF3D. The TodayAgenda plugin is....just.....awesome.

I've sorted this out, it was some software loading when the device starts to skin the volume control.
The key is at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\Services\HTCVolume
to stop it loading I renamed the DLL under the key 'Module' so it couldn't be loaded and this now keeps the standard volume controls.

i know this is an old thread, but htc has two volume controls as well:
change HKLM\software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\ SimpleMode to 0
Just deactivate it from the today settings and you should be fine, it doesn't take up that much space.
EDIT: I just went back to WM6.1 from a cooked WM6.5 ROM, I'm going to buy SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 because I think it's more indepth than TF3D is even tho I love TF3D.
Save yourself the trouble of MBS 3.5 - it's the most bugged piece of junk i have ever seen, and in fact i have asked for my money back under their 30 days refund policy
TF3D is WAAAY better than MBS3.5 - and MBS 3.0 is waaay better than 3.5

Use my TD2 Tools app, its in a sticky thread at the top of the topaz general forum.
It has options to disable htc notification manager and htc volume control as well as options to bring back the small start menu! you didnt look very far guys! lol

Everything you said here was either wrong or lies
My screen goes crazy. During a call up to my ear it flips to horizontal, changes out of key pad view and not always to mute/speakerphone... keys view, sometimes to contact info, and can be a nightmare to get back to "end call." I've found times when the caller hung up but the TP2 put them on hold and kept my time going.
Any programs and or reg hacks to:
1) stop the horizontal flip when placed to an ear, and
2) keep it in keypad mode or general call mode?
Real pain when dialing into a system that requires keypad responses. Everytime I put it back to my ear I have to go through a crazy sequence to get back to the key pad.
This is my only complaint wth this phone, it's not easy to use as a phone!
Thanks.
I have the same problem when dialing into VM, or into any call queue. I looked through the registry a bit. Didn't see anything obviously labeled.
yeah me too. Only thing I could find was using Gyrators' exception list to not rotate the phone, but it wasnt 100% reliable. I would *LOVE* to find a way to stay in keypad mode too.
Hi All - I guess I'm just jumping on the bandwagon but I have the same issue and find it annoying. I loaded the 'incall screen tweak' but that didn't work. Any help more seasoned members than I could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!!!
I had the same issue too, whenever I put my phone up to my ear (left handed) it would go into landscape. The fix is simple but you have to edit a registry setting. I'm going by memory here, so please forgive the vague info
1) make sure to backup your reg info
2) using your favorite reg edit program, goto
HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\Whitelist
3) now this is the part I kind of forgot, you need to find a string with the DATA value that includes "phone" or "dailer"
4) delete that string
5)soft reset and give it a try, the phone shouldn't go into landscape whenever you turn it during a call.

OK, I went where you said, but no dialer, and only phone entry is:
Phone/Lock/Compose/Picture
String= Dialog
And deleting this stopped "lefty" in call flipping? Doesn't make sense to me. Doesn't seem to only control dialer or phone.
Please confirm or anyone out there please help. I don't want to delete something don't understand.
Can I simple change Dialog to something like "Zero" or "0"?

That's it! forgot what the process name was, but yeah, deleting that stopped the phone from trying to change to landscape during a phone call. Deleting that will tell the G-Sensor not to change the orientation of the phone's screen during a phone call, however it also tells it not to change the orientation during a picture (which wasn't a big deal for me cuz I can change it when I view them in windows). You can always look up the process in google or even the forum search tool if you're still scared.
If anyone else is interested I tried a "partial" delete of the suggestion above. I created a new string leaving out the Phone.
Lock/Compose/Picture
String= Dialog
deleted old string with phone/....
So far no more "lefty" crazy problems, and pictures seem to appear in landscape.
Here's hoping all is OK!

Awesome, good job!
I installed Gyrator 2. Just create a new event with the phone as the application. Nothing for orientation, nothing on stylus, and rotate screen for actions. Then promote the event to the top. Highlight your new phone event and select orientation, it will have a check mark and a number one next to the event. It hasn't failed on me yet and I use the key pad all day long with my job!
I just upgraded to the Verizon official WinMo 6.5 and the registry hack doesn't seem to work anymore, and I'm having issues getting Gyrator to work, has anyone resolved this issue for WinMo 6.5?

I haven't had any of the issues with the 6.5 upgrade that were mentioned with 6.1. Haven't needed to add S2U2 since the screen lock is built in and the phone is much more responsive when placed to the ear and then moved away to access the keypad. It's not perfect but vastly improved over 6.1...
I guess my point is try it the way it is with 6.5 and see if you thinks its better. leave gyrator and reg hacks aside for a few.
This is locker (screen and sometimes buttons) what i have made for myself.
It's alternative for S2U2 and windows screen lock.
Main features:
1. Lock screen and keys on wake up, but only when ambient light level low
2. Lock screen when any phone activity (dialing, talking, incoming call offering). Because proximity sensor works not very good.
3. Quick unlock without slide using double click on hardware Back button
4. Quick power off after resume if not unlocked
5. Adapted for Inesoft Phone (greate app for me because of customizing contact rings and custom names for phone fields of contacts)
Additional features:
1. Reminders for missed calls, unread sms messages
2. Screen off after call connected
3. Vibrate alerting during the call: connected, n-th second of talking
4. Alternative sms alerting (used by me for setup once and did not setup again after reflash
5. SMS patch utility replace of Zenyee disable Htc Messaging (white form appears on the screen for short time nervous me)
6. Auto redial if call dialing failed
7. Changing keyboard when stylus in/out (yep, i know that HD2 does not have stylus)
8. Simulate stylus out event for unlocking S2U2 with double click on hardware button Back
Disadvantages
1. Settings changed only through registry
2. Minimalistic interface
Advantages
1. First stable build of this utility with good CAB install and uninstall (hope for this)
2. Changed for best (for me) locking of the phone
3. Native code only (I like managed code, but it's speed periodically sucks for small apps)
Install
1. Install attached CAB
2. Settings described in readme.txt file in installed directory (default is \Program Files\HtcExtFun)
Hints
1. This tool can not lock Answer and End hardware keys in call (i don't know hot to apply this and don't want to do this)
Will be interest for your feedback!
A pity none has still posted his feedback, so let me be the first.
1- great app: i use version 0.2 since a long time with great satisfaction (and now that Leo roms disables transcriber in SipMenu, HtcExtFun is the only way to recall it)
2- What did work in old version seems to work well in this one as well (i used only stylus in/out and missed calls/sms reminder)
3- On my device the new screen lock doesn't work. Maybe it's because i have a Blackstone and not a Leo? Anyway i run Manila 2.5.1921 (as Leo), and on resume after suspend the "screen locked" square is there. But not only i can normally use my screen (i can swipe across Manila tabs without problems), but trying to slide the slider nothing happens: the square is still there, the cursor doesn't move. It's a pity, because this was a great improvement (it works with the back double tap, but it's the only way [and i don't like it, since when in my pocket i often press keys]).
4- It's useless i post a screenshot since what appears is the same as in yours
5- Can i suggest you to post your app in "Dev&Hacking" forum? I never read this one since i don't have a Leo, and so only for chance did find you released a new improved version.
6- There are some undocumented reg values:
* HandleSmsPatch
* MaximizeVolumeTime
* LSensorOffValue (i suppose it's for light sensor?)
7- You have not documented that "ScreenLockWhenResumePowerOff"=dword:00000000 disables the poweroff timeout
8- A thing i don't like is that app add itself missing registry keys filling them with standard values. So i, on purpose, didn't add the AlertNewSmsScript and AlertNewSmsSound, but at first start the app did add them to registry.
9- For your records, this is my reg config:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HtcExtFun]
"HandleSmsPatch"=dword:00000000
"ScreenLockWhenResumePowerOff"=dword:00002710
"MaximizeVolumeTime"=dword:0000000A

"AlertBatteryLevel"=dword:00000000
Sadly i have to edit my previous 2). Sms/missed call reminder doesn't work with this new version: no sound at all. So i switched back to 0.2
Nice!
Maybe you can help us here?

Hi exidler,
I just tried your soft, which was cool but not the soft-locker I want.
So I wanted to unsintall ... damn! It doesn't work.
Whenever I try, I got that error message "can't register touch driver" (a window titled HtcExtFun Unsintall).
I try after deleting the startup link, and a softreset, so that the exe wasn't running ..
How can I proceed ?
Thank you in advance.
I'm in the same case. I've already deleted all the corresponding keys in the reg but nothing else to do. I'm still stuck with that problem. And no way to reinstall it.
Edit : I used SK Tools software to clean all the registry and unused folders, and now it works.
I've been using iDialer and iContacts but recently ran into a kind of a timing issue where iDialer was either dialing the number too early or too late (I can't really tell) so I gave gVo a try, but it has some hurdles to overcome.
Namely, there is no way that I have found to force it to launch and dial numbers instead of the existing dialer. With iDialer and iContacts, iContacts would always supercede the Outlook contacts that launch by default, and all outgoing calls made from iContacts were routed through iDialer.
So I looked into changing 6.5's soft keys, tried doing it with a reg editor, this did not work. Also tried using an application I found here, two different versions of SoftKey Manager. I saved my changes, soft-resetted and the soft key actions were not changed.
I understand there is added complexity with 6.5 because scrolling through the different options on the Home screen changes the functions of the soft keys.
I'm using an HTC Touch Pro, and a MightyRom... uh... ROM...
If all else fails, I can simply try tweaking my config for iDialer, adding or subtracting some pauses... I believe my string currently looks like
<google voice><p><PIN><p><target area code and phone number>
Moved as not software release.
Owned this phone for bout a week and been constantly playing with it and love everything bout it except the phone/dialing feature....coming from a blackberry, the phone/dialing just makes sense and works. Couple gripes I'm having:
1. Speed dial, I can't by default just hit 2 or 3 but I have to click off the "X" above the number pad before I can use speed dial. If I just long press 2, it would still think i'm trying to dial out a number and not speed dial.
2. In the same "phone" screen they have recently dialed incoming/outgoing calls but it just shows a picture or no picture depending if I have them, but they don't show the numbers. I have to use the optical pad to scroll though to show the number, I can't even you my finger to swype through cause it will automatically dial the number without me knowing who i'm dialing specially if I have no picture or number.
3. The "Faves" is kinda redundant cause it shows the recently dialed people same as the "Call Log". I know you can put your favorite people on the top list but still...kinda redundant.
4. I can start dialing a users name via the dial pad and it would find the person I'm looking for, what happens when that contact has multiple numbers, if I click on the contact from what it found via dialing his name in the dial pad it would just dial the cell number; won't give me options to dial his home, work etc. Just dials the cell number by default.
This is just some of the stuff I can point out right now. But its just not very intuitive and I have to go through multiple taps just to find someone, dial someone in my contacts or know where to look before I can dial out.
If there is an app for the phone that I can use to replace the built in "phone" feature, that would be great. Just not crazy bout how the Phone feature which should be the most important feature on a "smartphone" is so poorly layed out.
Thanks for any info....
I agree the mySense phone app is not the greatest, and probably stock froyo app is bit easier to use.
What about the speed dial, you you can hit menu on your home screen, than add to home/ shortcut / direct dial - choose contact - choose phone number . It will creat a speed dial icon on the home screen. Also you can create a folder and group them, like "Work" "Family" etc.
I like the phone/contacts application much better in what Cyanogen has in his ROM. It's simple and super fast, the one included with our phone is complicated and clunky.
I need to add that to my list, not a deal breaker, but definitely needs an overhaul.

I cannot recreate any of your problems on my phone dialer.
Speed Dial can be achieved easily two different ways. In the phone app, select menu and speed dial. Add new will be at the top of the screen. Select from contacts and choose a speed dial number. Long pressing on that number, regardless of what is in the screen above (blank number or last call) will dial the contact attached to that speed dial number.
Another method is to long press on the number while editing a contact and selecting speed dial.
The 'last call' at the top of the dialer should always show at least the number, unless it was blocked.
Faves is the same as Favorites on the vanilla dialer. Put your favoite called numbers here. It is a lot quicker than using contacts. I hate the faves app but the dialer function is fine. As far as the recent calls, those are actually the most frequently called numbers and you can set that to just one by pressing menu>edit smart group and selecting the number of members.
Your number four is quite fixable. If the contact has multiple number, it will dial the Primary one, which you can choose the first time you call a contact. Alternatively, you can press on the icon on the right side that looks like a contact card. It pulls up the contact and you can select a number from there.
I prefer the vanilla or CM dialer much better myself but because CM does not have a ROM that works for me yet (the phone app does not work for me) I learned all I could about the only stock alternative.
Hope this helps.

Also...
To search contacts you have to tap the spyglass. WTF? Why isn't the search field just there?
Each entry in the contacts is too tall. Give me the option to make it thinner. In the taller entry, add some information, such as shown in the My contact card, the default phone # for instance.
Favs is worthless. Allow me to dump it.
In the phone, I *do* like the 'start typing out a name' but it would be nice to be able to long press to pick the #, as someone said. At least it does something useful (mostly. Add to Faves is pointless).
DO NOT always show the last caller or callee at the top. That can be nice, or it can be embarassing.
Allow me to delete all of a certain # from my call log, not just individual iterations. At least this phone doesn't redial the last # all the time like my friend's iPhone does, and my other friend's MyTouch (plain version).
However, it redials too easily. So if I talked to my folks earlier and then at night I'm getting this post ready and they are asleep and the damn thing redials, well, that's bad.
If I start tapping out a number, let me edit it, say using the trackpad. C'mon, this is obvious!
And while playing with this, it got stuck in Searching contacts. And if I want to dial a number, how do I do that? At the top, Save to People. No number displayed, no people icons. Enter name or number/Tap to see smart dial tips. WTF? Time to reboot or something.
How about a remapping genius to search (as it should have been) and long-press on search brings up phone? Or something. I hate how with a normal POS phone I can dial. With this I have to go to the home screen or unlock the screen & log in, then press a button, then finally I can call.
I use Quickdial for my contacts that I call quite a bit. Nice app and allows 36 contacts.
I personally do not like the built in dialer. It is rather clunky to use witht he buttons on the bottom and if hands are rather large, it gets tricky sometimes hitting the phone button and the call button.
Have not found a good replacement yet.
I started using "Dialer One" and I like it better than the build in dialer. Its simple and it works...not the best but better. Also, started using Google Voicemail so everything pretty much works the way its supposed to now.
This is my first Android phone, and my experience is so far ok, but kinda annoying that I need to research, investigate and try out a dialer just to make the phone work.
I also like Dialer One and use it as both a dialer and address book replacement. If you set it to show your favorite contacts on the default screen there's minimal clicking. It also supports using your background image, pretty cool.
I hate the stupid Faves feature of the phone as well. Especially for SMS. Why does it need to explicitly notify me that one of my Faves messaged me? The new message notification by itself is sufficient.

Ah joy, it seems I found a bug. I reported it to T-Mobile, they gave me a # for HTC and I'll try pursuing that (if someone has a bugreporting URL for them...). My phone is perm-rooted, I'm not running (gasp, the horrors) a task killer.
Go to Phone (home screen, press picture of phone). You should see your last call at the top.
Tap out some numbers, say 55555.
Decide you wish to edit those numbers (the 2nd 5 should be a 5) and use the trackpad to move over to the left.
Unexpected behavior: it moves to Faves, then Contacts.
OK, fine, no biggie, now use the trackpad to move back to Phone.
Bug 1: Notice there is no number displayed and it says at the top that you have matches for n of your contacts where n is the total number of your contacts. Apparently the number typed is lost. Sucks but minor.
Bug 2 (often, not always): Tap out another number. Note that often (usually for me) you can not see any number. I believe it also shows that I'm still matching all of my contacts (it isn't reproducing for me currently).
I wonder if anyone else can see this, or if my phone (or if I got confused. It happened after rebooting as well, but isn't happening now.
