Program to issue a soft reset - Palm Treo 750

Is there a free or fairly cheap program that will soft reset this phone? I don't want to buy a program for $30 just for this one feature.
Its a PITA having to take the phone out of its case, open the card slot then press the button.
Thx..

Will a free program do you
Try PSShutXP - http://ppcsoft.narod.ru/english/ - it should do the job nicely!!

or magic button which is also free

I decided on Magic button. It has a task management feature that I like. I can now get rid of another program and use this one to:
1) Soft Reset
2) Actually close programs
3) Have a task manager
Thanks

Wow. thanks for the advice and hints regarding this. I've installed it in my 750v with wm6 and it works fine. Now i can soft restart my device without the need to open the sd card cover. thanks!

here is the link to the Magic Button software:
http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx

magic button caused a problem with my WM6.
it caused the send button wont work to show the call log pop up menu. i had to hard reset the device to fix the problem because uninstalling it didnt solve the problem.

Quickmenu has a built in feature and also the ability to export the command to a shortcut. PHM tools also has a standalone reset file.

I use this one and its free.

WK taks does the trick and more
It is also a task manager, very customizable, has a reset function, and it is free.

The picture says it all really, 0 messages and 1 unread. How did I manage that?
Any ideas how to fix?
This is a wm5 bug and there was a tool that fixed it in one of the fourms.
Yes a uploaded file, I tried search and found nothing (maybe you will have more luck)

i think it's fixunreadcount.exe
Sounds right but search wont find it (for me that was).
Has anybody seen that thread so that I can post it to wiki, seems like a good tool.
i read about it here: http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=81113&hl=
and here: http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=82090&hl=
Well it now can be found on our ftp site
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/Tools/fixunreadcount.zip
Many thanks for everyone's help. That has fixed it.
Thanks mda 3 user for the bug fix
That file did not work for me. It ran, said there were no problems under text/mms/email (I don't use email so that was empty anyway) but I still had the error. Even tried after a reboot and it did not work. I do keep all of my old messages so it may have had a problem with the amount that are in there.
I did fix it however. I used PIMBackup to back everything up. Then restored from the backup using the default option which deletes all existing messages. This seems to reset the counters and it all works fine.
Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.
Jez.
fixunreadcount.exe didn't work for me either so here is what I did:
1) Backup using Sprite. Uncheck messages so they aren't included in the backup.
2) Hard reset the device
3) Restore using Sprite
4) Re-setup your email accounts
How to hard reset (from the wiki):
Hard Reset **NB** This cannot be performed while the device is connected/charging!**
* Press and hold both soft keys
* Using a stylus, press and hold the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone
* Keep all three buttons pressed until the keypad lights turn off and then flash
* Release the soft reset button while still pressing the soft keys
* Let go of the two soft keys once the message "This operation will delete all your personal data, to manufacturer default" appears on screen
* Finally, press the green call button to perform the hard reset, or press other key to cancel

XDA MINI S - Hard reset

Hi , I need to remove a bit of software that refuses to be removed by using the REMOVE PROGRAM utility in SYTEM.....so I thaught I'd try a hard reset but the method for this described in the manual ( by O2 UK) page 81 which involves turning the XDA off and then pressing the COMM MANAGER + VOICE COMMAND buttons simultaneously and then pressing the reset button ....this doesn't seem to do anything. Any ideas ? Is it misprint in the manual. Failing that any ideas on how to remove stubburn bits of software that don't like being removed with the REMOVE PROGRAM utility. The software in question is GPRS monitor by SPB. Thanks
Why not try Start/ Settings System tab Clear Storage icon, follow the on screen prompts and it should reset your devive - Mike

Let me see if I'm understanding what you're saying here.... Internet explorer opens when you push the power on/off button, no hardware or softkeys work, opening/closing apps, buttons work except the internet explorer button. You can't hard re-set because of the answer key. All phones can be re-set back to mfg. settings. Im not familiar with the I-Mate K-Jam, but if it has a re-set hole, it can be re-set. First go to start/settings/system tab/clear storage/1234/Yes... If you're unable to get there...hold the comm mgr. and voice record buttons at the same time stick stylus in re-set hole...screen should develop multi-colors with message to send. Push the green phone button to send to mfg., wait a little bit, you're device will start up again with all programs previously installed lost unless you backup everything before you do this. Everything on your SD card should be saved, and not lost. To be safe, remove the SD card and sim card before hard re-setting.

Soft reset/shut down-cab

Anyone that could give me tips for an soft reset cab?
I now use xdashutdown but on my TD2 the symbols are tiny.
I am looking for a cab with soft reset and power off in the same app,not just soft reset.
And yes,i have been searching, but find nothing.
Hi,
Try to search A-A Reset
BYE, Bobo
Have tried that, but in TF3D i can not see A-A Reset in the program list.
I must use file explorer to look it up.Even if i install the A-A reset cab...
I want something i can put in the program menu,so i can reach it fast.
wouldn't it be easier to just press and hlod the power button ? It closes the phone and when you press it again, there you have it : a soft reset. (only one button, and no installation needed)
It's a .exe no .cab.

It 'true, but the virtual button preserves the hardware key, especially for those who make frequent soft reset.
And also you can schedule
Because my cooking activities I've to soft-reset lot.
One of the first programs I put in a ROM is ClearTemp.
Has a option to soft-reset.

forgot where i got this, but it is here from xda developers... but this is the best so far... real credit to whoever made this, sorry I forgot the creator hehehe.. I am just passing this must have app to you guys...
what I do, is change the right soft key of TF3D2 from camera to Shut Down using some registry tweak, so I can shut down real fast without using the hardware power button...
cheers
I use My Soft-reset and it works well on D2.
HD Tweak comes with a separate app 'HD Soft Reset'. It appears in your programs and can therefore be saved as a shortcut in Start/Programs separate from HD Tweak. I use it, and it works fine! Just another idea to add to those above.

I use wei's soft softreset (freeware)

does work fine, I hate the ugly button... (= small blown up button)

Soft Reset Command?

Hey all, just got my TP2 and I'm really enjoying it. Its a hell of a lot nicer than the Titan and i760 that I've been swapping between the past two years. Quick question though:
Is there a command somewhere in WM6.1 that will allow me to soft-reset the device? I really don't want to wear out the plastic cover on the back by taking it on and off over and over again to press the reset button.
Thanks in advance,
Dustin
Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe if you power it down with the red "end call" button and then power it back up with the same button it is equivalent to a soft reset. But if you are looking for a shortcut in windows to do that you can try the various task managers out there like pbar, wisbar lite, ect. They have soft reset options with a very small footprint on the memory.
You are correct. And technically speaking, using the power on/off commits all changes to memory.
I used SPB Mobile Shell 2.0 on my old phones that had a shortcut for it, but I wasn't sure if HTC had an equivalent. I'm really debating on switching back to SPB, but I hear that MS 3.0 isn't perfectly functional with the TP2 yet.
Thanks for your help!
Check this out. It gives you the option to soft reset on the norification when you hold down the power button. I like it.

Try ActionScreen
ActionScreen does this by popping up a selection screen when you hold down the power button for 3 seconds. There are many actions to choose from and one of them is Soft Reset. I've been running it for a few days and it seems to work fine and be unobtrusive.

I think there is a option on the setting manual "wipe all memory" or something like that.
On mine, by holding down the "End Call" button for 3 or 4 seconds, I get a prompt with the following options.
Display Off
Turn Off
Soft Reset
Hard Reset (icon on upper right (a little scary))
Plus icons for
Device Lock Settings
Setting timer actions
Setting Today Icon for this prompt
The prompts displays as Touch Pro 2 Shut Down Option
I have quite a bit of 3rd party software, but I believe this is native to the device. Try it and see what happens.
I don't get those, but I am on a custom rom. I have:
Turn Airplane Mode On
Lock Device
Terminate Data Connection
Set Vibrate
Settings...
sorry double post.
As mentioned these are the two most common:
psSHUTXP and XDAshutdown.
I used XDAshutdown.

Here is the best skin IMO.

I have attached all here
For applying skins for XDA shutdown:
Over write the files in this folder assuming you installed to a storage card:
\Storage Card\Program Files\xdaShutdown
