Touch Flo/Cube for XDA Comet (Quanta) - General Topics

Hello everybody,
I got the O2 XDA Comet (at least it is called like this in Germany, heard it was produced by Quanta) since a week. I like the fact that I can take calls, organize contacts, write emails and listen to music with one single device... BUT ... the windows mobile 6 look and the way u operate it seems to be to comlicated for me (Ok, dont get this wrong. I am talking about a fast and easy way to access SMS, Phone or Calendar menu without concentrating on hitting the right micro-button ... )
OK, I heard of the XDA Orbit and its Touch Flo/Cube navigation and I would like to try it on the XDA Comet.
Since I am not that professional, I would love to get some hints
- if it really works on the Comet
- where to get the software from
- and how to (easily) install and run it
Thank you for your attention.
Yours inbetween6

Hello,
I know nothing about XDA Orbit and its Touch Flo as I'm completely new to this world, but I read there is a program that allows you to remap buttons.
http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...&N=96806&Ntt=button&productId=182670&R=182670
I'm interested to buy XDA comet, do you happened to know how to change the language to English? Or is it impossible?

Hallo,
probier mal Touch Commander von MobilityFlow.
Es kostet nur 10 €
Gruß

Touch Commander
Thx for the hint.
The TouchCommander is a nice application working like the touchflo cube.
Anyway, unfortunately the touch flow function just works inside the programm itself. That means when using the contacts or other apps it sticks back to the same scheme.
How can I implement the touchflo system in addition?

SPV E100 and XDA II

Greetings! I'm just new here and i haven't got an xda yet but im planning to get one soon as i finally found a forum where i can read alot of information on how to use it and great people to assist/help when i need one.
guys, may i know if the applications that work with my spv e100 (manufactured by HTC too) will be compatible with the XDA II? like the smart explorer or resco, World Time and other games perhaps? thanks very much!
manny
No, Smartphone apps are not compatible with PocketPC.
Thank you, griffog for that prompt reply. Any idea where to download free apps for xda2?
http://www.freewareppc.com
or open google and type pocketpc freeware then you should get a whole pile of sites
yah, smartphone apps are not fully compatible wid xda2, but som do run perfectly like tiny ebook reader, betaplayer, mobipocket, town compass, bdicty, pocket stars nd others. some games run but u wud find it hard to control, problem wid d interface, wasnt written for touch screen
Some applications may run.
yes, some applications will run on both e100 and XDA 2, are you a member of airfagev? well, he things i tested that runs are Pocket TV(but there is a free PPC version), SmartNES (but there is PocketNES and other PPC versions), Many games, but will only display on a portion of your XDA screen.
get in touch. PM me so we may pool our resources along with other KABABAYANS near us.
Got my XDA from SMART after much hassle and bleeding.
Im a previous e100 user too and migrating to XDA 2 is no problem.
thanks

Is there really a big delay when opening/closing the keyboard?

yes every day there is the same question and thing I'm doing, looking to the web for news about new MS mobile devices..and now thinking about buying the Vox. But the only thing so far I couldn't live with is that there should be big delay when opening or closing the keyboard.
How do you rate this?
Its a few seconds...maybe more if you have many apps running in the backround, but then everything runs slow when thats happening on any WM device... dosent bother me...
Regards - John
To be honest in my opinion its not as bad as other make it seem, as long you keep tabs on the programs you have running in the background every now and not running with only 1mb free memory then you shouldn't have a problem. One tip you can try is disabling the sound it plays when switching views in the settings. Made the switch slightly faster in my opinion.
Without the Sound it is maybe 2 times faster..
thanks guys for your prompt answers!!
Do you have a clou whether the important progs like PocketInformant or AgendaOne are running without problems in landscape mode?

I use AgendaOne and I haev not had an issue with it switching orientation. However Documents to Go has a problem as does SmartPhoneNotes - they will not fill the screen, you get a scroll-bar on the righe, pretty much making it still portrate..

hi John
I thought one doesn't need smartphonenotes anymore as WM6 should have its own notes taking application?
As well as Office Mobile (doc, xls, ppt) should be on board, isn't ?
I really don't see what the fuss is about speed of the screen rotation. Its not like it takes several minutes. Approx 1-3 seconds depending on what's running in the background is perfectly fine.
hi guys, I don't want to make the Vox bad, I'm asking because I had the same issue with HTC Hermes, which was also quite ok after I disabled the sound. It also depends on how many applications are installed, loaded in memory, how much memory is free etc. But reading one of the serious reviews like the one from mobile-review - I rather ask for opinions of users before I buy it.
Thank you all
Can somebody tell how is it with the mobile office? Is it really not included with Vox as I read also somewhere? And is there a mobile note application synchronizing with Outlook?

You can edit existing documents but you cannot create ones, correct?
How about the notes application - possible to synchronize them with desktop?

Yes it has them...but WM6 does not allow for creation of new items in Office Mobile (although there is a hack to get around that) but I personally find Documents to Go a better offering than what MS gives you. I have word docs sent via email that dont load in Word mobile (on WM5 or WM6) yet have no problem in DTG...
There is also a 3rd party notes app - but no way to Sync to Outlook, thus I use SmartPhoneNotes.

You know...not to go way off topic here, but I thought I was going crazy one night because I could not figure out why there was no Calculator on the VOX...it never crossed my mind that it would be under "Office Mobile".... Since I never go in there with DTG installed - makes no sense at all to me for it to be in there...
My 2 cents
John
this is really a place one should go to - getting answers by like-minded people.
RE notes / synchronization - you know that there is a new beta out there of phatnotes by phatware? It supports WM6, might be a solution also for the landscape issue with smartphonenotes described by John...?

Didn't know about it to be honest, will have to swing by their site and look it up.
I guess I should note that DTG and Smartphonenotes are landscape aware, I used them just fine on my BlackJack...and I noticed today actually that if you start them in landscape mode they auto-rotate just fine....its only when you start in portrait mode that they go whacky...
Take care - John

Polaris good for sending SMS's?

Hey ya
well ive been searching high and low to try and find out if the SMS program is decent enough on the Polaris and others. i had a play with a HTC touch, only to find the default SMS program is not only combined with email, but is also. . . crap, with no option to use an on screen keypad with T9 predictive. Does such a thing exsit. Obviously the touch dual would allow this with its keypad and its T9 predictive text entry, but it doesnt have Wifi or GPS and probably wont anytime soon, so im looking elsewhere (Polaris/Cruise/Orbit2)
cheers
Jamie
the phonepad input tool you can find here using search if your device dont come with it
does t9 and everything
it works on all wm devices from htc
"SMS program is not only combined with email,"
same thing for all htc/wm devices it dont slow it down
and emails and sms's are not placed in the same dirs
Thanks for the quick reply
Is this the one you mean ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312235
or is there an official HTC one that comes with the Polaris?
Jamie
same program diff skin i think
if it comes with polaris may depend on if one get it from a phone company they
at times customize their stuff
but a cab is a cab it will install and work

Questions about HTC Cruise

I recently switched from using the ATT Tilt to the Cruise (mainly because it's smaller/lighter to carry around) It's mainly working ok, but I have a few questions:
1) Does anyone know of a decent handwriting recognition software out there I could use? On the TILT i got used to the "block-recognizer," as the lesser of evils, but i would LOVE to find software that can use the whole screen. I use these devices a lot, so after a while that lower left corner becomes all scratched up (even using a screen protector) , and then you have to pay about $200 for a new screen, since the characters no long respond well to Block Recognizer. I"ve tried the "Transcriber" that comes with Windows Mobile 6, and it seems awful, as do the several other programs i found online, such as Pen Writer and Caligrapher, i think they're called? Back when i used Palm/Treo devices, i really loved the Teal Script program, but it doesn't seem to work for W Mobile? Anyone know of anything that could work??
2) Some things worked better on the Tilt, i guess becuase of the ATT software? For example, on Tilt you can use the word completion software in the Calendar mode, but on the Cruise it doesn't come up. And the word completion software "remembers" two-word or longer phrases in the ATT Tilt software, but not in the Cruise. Is there any work-around to be able to do this on the Cruise too??
3) Is it worth trying to upgrade to 6.1 on the Cruise, through some kind of cooked ROM, or better to wait until HTC finally (hopefully) releases the 6.1 ware??
Thanks much!!
Daniel
1. sounds like transcriber

Sorry, but Transcriber is already on the device, and it seem terrible to use?!! Isn't there ANYTHING out there that works ok??
Thx much!

Help on a smartphone needed

Hi there
Just after a bit of help or reccommendations please. I want a pda/phone that has the following features:
Runs Windows (for live and messenger)
wifi
Runs office applications like exel etc so you can edit
Has a slide out qwerty keyboard (with or without touchscreen)
Has a camera and secondary camera (with flash would be ideal)
Possibly a radio although not relevant.
Something i can pick up on ebay for around £100 or cheaper!
I currently have an XDA Orbit which i adore, but want to upgrade and i know there are loads on the market now so need your help in choosing.
Thank you.
Either the Samsung B7610 or Htc touch pro 2
I would check out the HTC Rhodium TP2...
