The built-in L2TP/IPSec VPN client is compatible with the Cisco 3000 VPN Concentrator, but you need to setup the concentrator correctly to support it. It's a double bonus though as the setup for it to support the Windows Mobile L2TP/IPSec VPN Client is also applicable for the native Windows 2000+ L2TP/IPSec client, so you don't have to install the Cisco VPN Client on the PC's. The VPN Client in Windows Mobile is a bit temperamental though, especially on the Wizard, so there is a downside...... The 5.2.1437 ROM seems to be the most stable so far.
For RSS Feeds I am using JeyoInformer. This has an option to be displayed on the Today screen however I haven't used it too much, I just included it in my ROM build. There is a default XML file that it used and this has BBC's RSS news feed included.

Awesome! Thank you for the info. I will test is using the native VPN client. Will post the results.

So apparently the VPN that I need to connect to only uses L2TP/UDP where as the built in native VPN client uses PPTP or L2TP/IPSec. Any ideas if there is a VPN Client for Windows Mobile that uses L2TP/UDP?

No, the setup on the VPN Concentrator is wrong, or at least not setup for L2TP/IPSec VPDN. If it is already setup and your network admin doesn't want to reconfigure it then you will have to get an alternative VPN client.
Some details here, however I used RSA Signatures instead of pre-shared keys but this requires certificates.

How with the built-in VPN client does one specify the Cisco VPN 'group name'?
On linux I have a vpnc client functional, but to connect I need to be able to give the client the following:
vpn host
user
password
group name -- where do I put this in??
group password --I put this in as the IPSec/L2TP pre-shared key, of course in it's non-encrypted form via http://www.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/~massar/bin/cisco-decode -- is this correct?

old post, but I have the same question. My VPN requires a group name and group password (both of which I have) but the built wimo setup doesn't ask me for either.

hello
for group name and pass auth. you need to use anthavpn or bluefire sec. clients. but both not free

http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-RSA_Security_100PK_RSA_SID_700_HW that i had to use the code with my password to get into my work network.
Ok the question is : Wich aplication can do this in WM5 JASJAR, like i do in my laptop with vpn cisco client.
Thnks a Lot
Luis,
Hi galinha!
A company called Apani Networks has software for windows mobile 2003 that allows you to connect to Cisco VPN 3000 services. There's a demo version available so you can check it for compatibility with your network and your PDA.

Is there a PC version of Direct Push client?

Hey guys, I searched this forum and pretty much everything on the net but couldn't find anything.
I have a WM6 smartphone with direct push access to our company exchange server. Works flawlessly, I get all my work emails right away on the handset.
But I was wondering, is there a XP or Mac client out there that could "pretend" it's a mobile device and give me my email on my private computer?
On top of that, I'm a Mac user. (Apple Mail has OWA Exchange supprt but it wouldn't let me in. I think it needs to tell the server it's a mobile device.)
Naturally, a Windows client would also do just fine.
The only settings known to me are: activesync server address, user, pwd, domain. The server is accessible from the internet (I know this because my smartphone can sync via any wifi hotspot too.) so that's no problem.
any ideas?
RPC over HTTP
Hey Greg,
do you have a certificate file from the exchange server ?
It could be that it's not really working because of the missing cert-file.
Maybe you need Entourage on your Mac, but i have read about, that it is not fully functional (but... i have no idea about it.... )
Or ask your IT stuff in the company if they are servering RPC over HTTPS.
RPC over HTTPS and Outlook this is imho the best solution to use your company mail at home.
Or maybe you can access the exchange via pop3 or imap if it is allowed in your company. But using RPCoHTTP is much better...
Cheers,
Peter
Thanks,
no there is no certificate. I can just enter my credentials into any phone fresh-out-of-the-box and it will work.
I'd like not to ask my IT staff because their standard answer to such questions is "not supported, don't do it".... I don't wanna hear that

CSICO VPN Client

Is there away to install CISCO VPN Client on the universal device? instead of using MS client which I don't trust it as everyone does
If there's away please let me know how and where I can download the .cab file.
try this
AnthaVPN
http://www.anthasoft.com/index.php
I use this one (connection to a Cisco PIX):
http://www.ncp-e.com/
you can also try SSL vpn (web vpn) or anyconnect client.
What's wrong with the integrated VPN client
The integrated VPN client in Windows Mobile 6/6.1 is a standards based client, I don't know why you wouldn't want to use it? I currently have Cisco IOS Routers & PIX Firewalls configured to work with the integrated VPN client in Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista as well as Windows Mobile 6/6.1. I have disabled the PPTP stuff on the Cisco devices and only use the L2TP/IPSec with 3DES but it all works perfectly.
It took a while getting it working effortlessly but it does now Setup on the Client side is simple and easily supported - no worrying about 3rd party apps, I can't complain about any of it (not now anyway, at the time of testing and getting it all working might have been a different story.....).
Plus Cisco don't have a Windows Mobile VPN Client?

I'm using it exactly the same way you just mentioned above, but when I look to iPhone comes with CISCO VPN client built-in so I suspect that there's one available for CISCO so I specify which tunnel name and so on since I designed different tunnels with different access levels. So if we deployed to the entire company will not meet company’s min. standard security to segregate or have different access level per tunnel.
I know that CISCO doesn’t have client as of yet for WM.

You can have different access levels with the built-in VPN client, its all in the configuration of the back end though with your access servers and the authentication servers (Radius/Tacacs). Using a proprietary client seems to defeat the object of open standards doesn't it? Plus it's something else to support (and go wrong..)
My 2cents..

any app for tweeting with a built-in proxy?

Hi
I live in Iran and here, tweeter is censored. so there is no direct way to access it. but for example, we have Opera Mini that uses a proxy to connect to web, and so it bypasses the censorship. is there any similar app (you know, i mean android app) that uses a proxy to connect to tweeter?
Thanx dudes ;-)
Built-in Proxy
I do not what device you have but I would suggest getting a ROM with a working built-in proxy and using it for ALL of your communications...just saying...
But the problem is that i dont have a proxy server myself, so i want to use an app that it has!
