TomTom 6 for car stereo running win ce 4.2 - General Topics

Hi all, a bit of a strange request.
I've recently bought a double din dvd (double height) car head unit, that has bluetooth & gps built in.
It runs win ce 4.2, with a reduced interfrace, limiting functions to gps, dvd, tv, radio, and bluetooth for phone.
it has two sd cards (no usb)
Apparently it can run route66 sat nav software, but I thought I'd try tomtom 6.
You can specify which nav software to run by specifying a path to an .exe file only.
Suprisingly tomtom runs, I get the disclaimer screen, then on press I agree, it displays "no maps found"
It's a long shot but does any one know how to:
a) Resolve the no maps problem
or
b) get access to more of the win ce o/s?

Where did you put the maps to?

Interesting. What radio brand/model are we talking here?
Maybe try inserting hte SD card in the other SD slot? mabe tomtom is looking in the wrong place....

Its a generic brand (from china)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/T258-6-5-Two-...ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
Good unit.
I tried the maps in various locations (all on the sd card)
1. in the \Storage Card\Program Files\navigator\great britain
2. \Storage Card\great britain
3. \great britain
4. Just in the root.
Any ideas?

have you tried tomtom6 on a pda and found that it actually works?
where abouts are you in the uk?

Yep, I'm copying the installation that is working on my pda to this device via SD card.
I'm in london by the way

nice looking unit there!
I would have a look at the way win CE (which is a kernal that wm is based on) displays the storage card. In WM /storage card/ is a cute name that is given to the removable storage and tt6 may be looking for that specific lable.

Tomtom on wince
Hi
I am having similar issue i have purchased a similar product..
I have used the SD card from my PDA XDAII and I cant even run the application... How did you run the application???

I went into the Nav setup and hit options
The Navi options, which allows to to specify the path of the exe for the unit to run for sat nav.

TOMTOM
I have tried the same but it doesnt load the software...

any solution to the 1st thread these days?
I have the exact same problem as the original thread poster.
Did any one hear about/ solved it?

I can not even run Tomtom
Hi I got the similar unit. however, I cant even run tomtom. I did specify the .exe file to run for the nav. however, it just keeps disappointing to run it.

Heres how its done..
OK gentleman heres how its done..
This post is from another forum... His name is louthefirst on the forum i visit.
(1) Download this http://www.megaupload.com/?d=59W9BLJD
(2) Copy entire contents of Zip to SD Card an a file called TomTom
(3) Insert SD card in T7000 and turn T7000 on
(4) In navigation options screen select
\tomtom\OTHER SOFTWARE NEEDED\miotool
(5) Go back to navigation main screenand select navigate, (this will bring up a keyboard)
(6) In the top left corner there is a little square that hides and unhides the keyboard, HIDE IT.
(7) Go back to the navigation options screen and select
\tomtom\OTHER SOFTWARE NEEDED\RegEdit
(8) Go back to main screen and select, (this will bring up a regedit screen)
(9) Use registry editor go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
EXPLORER
SHELL FOLDERS
My Document
Click on My Documents and it will bring up a little box the bottom box need changing from my documents to \storagecard (REMEMBER BACKSLASH AND NO SPACES) To change it you will need to press the button in the top left to bring back the onscreen keyboad.
(10) Exit regeditor
(11) Go to navigate options and select \tomtom\tomtom navigator.exe
(12) Go back to navigate main screen and press navigate
Follow tomtom setup screen and thats it....
All thats left to do is add your MAP to \tomtom\ on the SD Card (GUAM IS ALREADY THERE SO YOU CAN TEST IT)

hi i have the same prob.
i did what you said in the instructions, and all seemed to work untill i rebooted my system,
it says no map found so i went into my registry and the My Document
has returned back to how it was instead of renamed to storagecard,
anyone any ideas please

ok i have the same unit, i can load tomtom fine, however the map keeps jumping when i drive, when im stationary, its fine.
Whats causing this?????

hello can anyone help with this???

this is the system:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=260250817967&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=016
apparently using Windows CE 4.2
The GPS keeps shifting when i drive so the maps keep jumping... driving me nutz now!

I was looking at getting one of those units for my Octavia, but was worried about TomTom running (or not).
It sounds like it definitely works.
I was really hoping to get TomTom 7 working on it but it sounds like there may be some issues with TT6?
I hope you work out why the map is jumping - do you mean it snapping to other roads which you are not on?
I have that very infrequently with my PDA. If you reset it and get a new satellite lock it cures it. Perhaps your GPS aerial needs repositioning behind the dash to improve sensitivity? DId you check the aerial hasn't come out of the rear of the unit?

it's considered rude to repeatedly ask for help but not reply with your result...

lol, sorry sickboi - i've been in kenya and the free wifi out there dnt really work (even the one u pay for at the hotel too!)
is there a tomtom 7?
i didnt think was a such a thing as tomtom 7 ... can anyone confirm this?
i still dont have the prob sorted sicko, so if u know of anyway i can sort it, would be great.

SanDisk 256Mb+WiFi (Of course not working)

Just recieved my 256Mb+Wifi sandisk SDcard. But not working. I looked at the sandisk website. MDAII NOT SUPPORTED!!!!.
This sucks..... But maybe someone has a fix to get it working.... Or is it hardware limited? It seems to start, (green led goes on) but nothing more.
Even the storage isn't recognized.
I even tried it in my XDAI. Wireless is dead, but the 256Mb is recognized.
Any hints would be nice.
As far as I am aware, it is not possible to get it working. My understanding is that Sandisk need to provide a version that does work with XDA/MDA II.
dcs is right...i was advised by my supplier not to buy one like that...they told me to buy wifi card without the storage instead
Firmware update
Does the new firmware that was released the other week rectify this? as when I tried installing the sandisk software it prompted me to overwritre newer files on my xda?
which firmware update is that? checked site tocday......
ive found some interesting stuff with this card on 2003SE. Under SE - the radio works! it constantly sends probes requests out (no ssid, chanel 0 ). If you use the app to turn radio off, u can then use the app to get ver info, power settings and add profiles. when the radio is on, the app is useless. I captured sum of the frames and they have the priism headers n all. So i really think that it is the utility not talkin to the driver properly...will keep trying and let u all know....

I am downloading the Pocket PC 2003 setup from the sandisk website and testing in on the 2.06 ROM. Will keep you guys posted on the results...
Sandisk PPC 2003 combo wifi drivers - Investigation Report
Investigation:
This set of drivers from the sandisk website is no good for the 2.06 ROM.
(a) It detects the storage as per the old 1.72 WM2003 ROM and requests for format, but it never did. However, when you detach the card, it does prompt you that the card was not formatted successfully.
(b) I attempt to initiate the wifi tools with Flight turned off and turned on. It refuses to detect the card.
(c) I cold reset the device with the card attached, and attempt to initiate the wifi tools with flight turned off and turned on again. It detected the card, launched the wifi tool and freezes.
(d) I uninstalled the SANDISK WIFI tools/drivers only and install Socket Wifi drivers. It didn't detect the combo card.
(e) To double-check that the Socket wifi drivers are working, I 've went ahead and inserted the 0MB Sandisk Wifi SD card only, and the Socket Wifi tools detected this card and allows Wifi connections.
Warning: The installation of the Sandisk drivers disabled detection of unother SD storage cards. Uninstallation didn't help. I've to hard reset and restore backups.
I've tested for the 2.06.00 WWE ROM installed on my XDA2 devices only. I would love to know if someone else has managed to get this combo card working! Many thanks to the gurus in this forum.

Yeah, checked extended rom, and files arent there, trying to narrow it down with files in windows folder.
someone with car working...NOT ON XDAII that is
hey,
going to try something else - can someone with the card working (on whatever device type) please have a squizz in their registry (or prog dir for .ini's or whatever) i cannot see anything (interesting) written in my reg and i have a suspicion that if we hak our correct config in there, the radio *might* pick it up. As i said previously - the radio works fine but as we cant use the utility to configure, it sends its probes out with ESSID: nul and chan: 0 .
i shouldnt say this, (false hope) but my XDA II did detect my local AP at one point, well - it said 'access point MY_ESSID found' or the like. good news, as i have never entered my essid into the device. of course a) didnt note config at the time (was super late) b) couldnt connect c) cant reproduce.
has anyone been able to read/format the memory? ad tip - write proctecting the card makes it more stable (seemingly).
i think that if we dont have someone on board to re-write either the Util/Driver/SD_Driver then we should start getting a petition to the vendors going - work arounds suck.......and i want to use stumbler

Seems that Sychip is the vendor that is producing the SD Wifi card, and not Sandisk nor Socket. I've news from various quarters that it's working on IMATE-JAM that has the souped up drivers, but Sychip is not releasing them officially yet.
Wonder if Mini has the same drivers as well?

It did it to me today (just once) I restarted tomtom and had no more problems for the rest of the drive. I'm getting a bit suspicious tho, maybe it's not so stable as I thought.
favourites, home etc are saved normally
try and alternative sd card, i had lots of weird problems with tomtom shutting down and general lockups.. New sd now ok
if you get the issue where you cannot save fav's or home location, put the sd car into a pc 2k or xp and right click on the maps folder and check the folders and contents are not set to read only.. had me stumped for a bit..
turn off all your POI's in the menu (dont show them at all) and Im 99% sure the problem will be gone
something's fishy about TT5 and POI's
I had the same problem, and used this patch
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/james.lord/PatchPoiTTN5.rar
which was posted in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24268&highlight=tomtom
Never had any problems since, using loads of POI's.
Hi neostar,
If this one is working we'll owe you much.... In my case, I was never able to use POI functionality(from the very beginging).
For the rest, indeed, if you don't want to have weird behaviour, stop using POIs...
Regards,
R.
tge problem on mine is with the poi,i can click on all the poi except one.if i click on the cash dispenser one that's when it crashes and turns off!strange?!?!
tge problem on mine is with the poi,i can click on all the poi except one.if i click on the cash dispenser one that's when it crashes and turns off!strange?!?!
Switch off POI's !
I also had the same problem, up until recently where everything has been working perfectly, and I have noticed my POI's are actually off. As soon as I switch them on......TT5 closes.
try having some on but not cash dispenser, then, turn them all off and put the cash dispenser on.that's what closes it for me
POI
Indeed TomTom does not crash th moment hen I use POI (after installing the patch neostar pointed). But now:
1. The routes are not saved after restart
2. The favorites are lost after restart.
As a matter of fact, all the settings that were in place before installing the patch are preserved, nothing done after the patch installation is preserved.
Cheers,
R.
It's not the patch, cause I use it too and my settings are saved!
Good point,
What should be the reason than ???

excellent, works like a charm, thx
I have the same problem too..
I lose all my favorites e.t.c each time I close down the tomtom.
Any ideas?
To solve the Home/Favourites not saving, make sure every file in your Map folder is writable (i.e. not Read Only)
To solve the crashing issue, download a working POI.DAT file... one of the TomTom cracks included a GB map with a corrupt POI file... there are cracks with a working one.
try renaminmg the 2577 folder to something else
I had a problem with the app reinitialising itself every time I turned teh device on - this soved it

Garmin XT

I just got an HTC touch cruise and I'm unable to use it's GPS reciver with Garmin XT. It does works quite well in my Trinity and therefore I suppouse that it should work fine in Polaris.
Anyone could help me?
J.·.
You'll need a 3rd party program for that...
http://classic.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=22697&associateid=9
I am using Garmin Mobile XT v4.20.30wp with my TC. No problems eith GPS...
I'm using TC with Mobile XT 4.10.40. No problems and no other software needed either. I think your version of Mobile XT may be not suitable for non-garmin receivers.
I'm using Garmin XT too and it works very well with my TC, no aditional software is necesary.
You should use this version:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-11034-00
Also, i use the POI Loader for Garmin:
http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/
I have the software on an oem 2gb micro SD and it works just fine. I tried to copy the program to my 8gb card and reinserted it but no luck. I seems the oem card is protected somehow. I read in a Garmin forum that someone erased the oem card and then recopied the program to it and it worked, but when he tried like I did above, no dice. Anybody know how to get xt to work on an non-oem card?
@mws
As far as i know, Garmin is protected by using the card's serial number. Using another card without getting a new keyfile is not possible.
Am cracking my head over this.
1. Hard reset to make sure the device is in factory state.
2. downloaded various versions of XT, all downloaded garmin site.
http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-11034-00
tried 4.10.40w, 4.20.20w, 4.20.50w.
3. Installed (program only, no other support files/maps), and start the program to test connectivity. I can see occassional blinking amber (GPS) lights and blue (BT) lights. The program continuously doing "Scanning Bluetooth".. "Scanning Attached" without finding the internal GPS.
4. Navigate to Setting > System > External GPS. This is the setting
Program Port: 4
Hardware Port: None, Baud Rate: Auto
Access: Manage GPS Automatically
What have I missed?
I really think you need something different to make it work with non-Garmin GPS receivers. Do some googling around...
Has anyone been able to assign the Mobile XT aplication, to the correct GPS launch botton? How can this be done?
Can confirm it is possible to run Garmin XT on the Cruise. Some unconventional measures needed and a lot googling around.
Took me quite some time but now I can run both Blue Chart and City Navigator. Keep trying.
Inorder to use Garmin XT you need to crack it, Garmin use's the SD card ID as a protection that is why who had OEM SD card from Garmin are able to run it on TC and when you tried to copy it to other card it wont work.
to get the card ID:
run garmin, click menu, click options, click about. copy any number named unit id, device id, card id. (10 digit number)
then run the keygen and paste it there to generate the card ID unlock code,
save the generated number in a file and name it sw.unl and copy it to the garmin folder on your card (replace the current file if naccessary).
now you can configure the program to work and the built-in GPS of the TC.

Does Garmin Mobile XT SD card work on Diamond

I have found many people that say their GMXT works on Diamond but I am not sure if they are using the DVD version or the SD card version. Obviously you would need to do something to get it off ot the SD card but are any of you doing this and if so what do you have to do?
Thanks DHATW.
I quess this is really a software question (was thinking bluetooth=accessory). I will repost in software.
Yes it works, but you have to push the SD-cart really hard to get it in
... but seriously i'm pretty sure, have some downloaded stuff which orginates from a card and its working fine
Thanks, but how do you do it? Garmin says you can't do it. I know it has been done but am looking for the how.
Dude you can download it. But its not free. Although there are always ways. I have it running on mine just fine.
You can download directly from garmin:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-11034-00&cID=138&pID=11413
But you need license key to activate to use with internal GPS.
Okay maybe I'm misunderstanding something. I have the SD card version running on my HTC Touch right now. I spoke to Garmin and they told me they do not have a solution for the Diamond about a month ago. I have already downloaded 5.00.20 for my Touch. When you do it looks for the SD card on the phone. I am not looking for free software. I just want to know how I can run the existing solution (SD card or purchase DVD) on my next phone (my wife has already let me know I am getting one for Christmas-that's if Rogers ever gets it) the Diamond. I realize there are always ways but I am not one of those guys that believes everything should be free. I just want a reliable, updateable and Garmin supportable version that works.
I know CoPilot 7 has a North American version that is made for the Diamond but I have been a Garmin fan for a long time.
Thanks, DHATW.
works for me
hi
i found a totourial i the net, bought garmin xt for win mobile, and i works
you have to conenct your diamond as external harddisc --> you could install gamin XT
after installation i copyied all files from the SD-card to the storage on diamond
at last you have to generate keys for the internal gps-receiver (and overwrite SWL.UNL and for the serial of the internal storage of your phone
if you look a littel bit around you will find a helpful tool from jet mouse...
andreas
Quite easy
I bought a Diamond Touch with the Garmin XT software. ( And unlock code)
The previous owner hard reset the phone to wipe out his entries,
All I did was sync the phone, copy all the files from the SD card into the expanded memory of the phone, and opened the install software from thre phone.
You have to enter the unlock key and the device then connects and sends a SMS to confirm sucessfull installation. (Or something like that)
Hey, I am no genius, but I worked it out, as I knew the program was installed before.
Thanks Basilrsa, I will try that when I get my Diamond. Maybe all the other instructions were for people that did not have a "legal" copy of GMXT.
Thank you again.
I'm trying to install Garmin Mobile XT by copying the files from the SD card to my internal storage, the phone recognises it and installs and runs it OK.
The problem I have is that the internal GPS is not detected and it just keeps searching bluetooth then attached gps constantly (the progress bar on attached GPS goes about half way and the bluetooth only goes quarter way so I think it is partially detecting).
It is a legal boxed SD card from Garmin that worked on the Touch Cruise and I just want to transfer to this phone. I don't want to run any Keygen exe's on my computer, has anyone found another way of getting the internal GPS to be detected?
I did try it in a good reception area and verified this using CameraAware.
hi
afaik garmin uses two files for licensing:
one with a key for the sd card and one for gps receiver
both were generated on a hardware serial of card and receiver
--> i think there is no way to get garmin working without using new license files
greetings
dopsi
Hi
I am not too sure if you can reinstall the Garmin XT software on another device.
The licence is for installation on a single device. When you register it looks for this device identification.
Maybe if you are trying to install on a different device, it will not release to software to operate.
I think you may have to contact Garmin and discuss it with them.
But, XT does install on the Diamond - mine works fine!
But hey, you had better get a car charger as it sucks the battery dry in no time.

It looks like the GPS receiver costs £67 from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000TSJV58/incomp-1-130534-21/ref=nosim) but I wouldn't buy it anyway as I bought a phone with in-built GPS so I didn't have to carry 2 devices.
I think it's safe to say Garmin will not be getting any more money from me and I'd rather buy something else. I just wish tomtom would release a diamond version 7 in UK. I've heard bad reports about CoPilot so don't really want to spend the money on that to find it is bad.

Hi Kevlah,
" So, what we do here is when we load the data to the preloaded

> that the data cannot be copied to the phones internal memory or another

I cannot agreed with the above statement as I transferred all the files to my Diamond's ext memory and opened the installation program from there.
I am not sure now which file I used but I had to try a few.
I had to enter the supplied unlock code and later a SMS was sent with the GPS unlock code. I did not have to enter that.
Then, it worked!
But as I said in my post it was a reinstallation on my phone.

Screen broken Cant switch disk drive mode to activesync

Telus touch diamond
I need to do a full backup before I send the unit in to repair the screen, which is totally black.
The last time I used it was in disk drive mode, and now I can't change it back to activesync mode.
How can I switch the unit to activesync mode?
1. I've tried using the up/down wheel buttons on a working touch diamond, and it doesn't do anything on the activesync/disk drive popup menu when I plug the diamond into a PC.
2. There's no way to start the start menu using the hardware buttons, so I can't navigate to the settings that way.
3. I've never used remote control software, and I can't install it now - no screen.
4. Can I change a registry setting remotely?
5. Sending it to the states or overseas to somebody who can repair the screen without wiping it is an option, as long as they don't change the hardware. Telus doesn't allow foreign serial numbers on their network.
You can access the registry with CeRegeditor-but I'm not sure you'll be able to do it with disk drive mode selected. This is the reg key you want, but I am not sure you can do it yourself:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\USBtoPC]
"SyncMode"=dword:00000000
Here is a cab I made-maybe you can run it off your sd card. Good luck!
Thanks for helping.
CEregedit (or SRregedit) requires activesync running, so that won't work.
And I can copy your cab file to the internal storage on the diamond, but I have no way to run it.
This is harder than I thought it would be.
Ug, forgot you don't have an sd card. Does the internal memory support autorun? If so, create a folder on it called 2577, rename the cab autorun.exe and do a soft reset. It's a long shot, but maybe it will install automagically. Or, do you have mortscript on the phone? If so, I bet you could get the mortscript to autorun
RegWriteDWord("HKLM","\Software\OEM\USBtoPC","SyncMode",0)
Put that script in a text file, rename it autorun.exe and give it a shot.
Edit: You probably don't need the soft reset. When you disconnect from the usb, if the storage memory has an autorun function, it should occur then.
It looks like the internal memory does support autorun, without a soft reset.
I put the cab in 2577 and renamed it.
When I disconnect, there's a splink sound which I'm sure means a popup asking me to press OK in the top right corner or Accept/Continue in the bottom left corner, neither of which I can do. None of the hardware buttons are Enter/Continue buttons. I tried the dpad button anyway.
I don't think I ever installed mortscript, but I tried that too. Same sound, and it's still in disk drive mode.
The cab almost saved me (TP2 screen unresponsive). Able to launch it but still in "Disk Drive" mode afterwards (Touch Pro2) =(
I can run the Registry editor bundled with the NRG rom but can't navigate without screen to get the right key (or even enter one)... Could anyone transform this code in a cab file (without install confirmation) ? Thanks in advance

EDIT : I finally achieved making those registry values into a cab but can't install it successfully (errors in value/keys maybe),... Anyone can help provide the right thing to do to activate Activesync by default again ? Thanks
Or is there any way to put it in bootloader mode to reinstall with the former rom without activesync ? From sd card maybe ? please...
