It would be great if you could organise all the entries in your contacts into groups (hierarchies of groups would be even better).
It is a pain to have a list of 200-300 to scroll through.
If I could organise contacts into folders like work contacts, friends, etc it would be pretty useful.
Anybody know if this is possible?
suggestion
i used 'tag'. in the notes of each of my contact i put my custom tags. when i need to find them i used a T9 plugin on my home screen to type the tags. good luck
I've just spent time prefixing each entry with a letter C (customer) W (work) P (personal) etc.
At least they are now grouped in sections in the list which helps a lot.
I would have thought folder grouping would be a not very complicated and pretty useful enhancement to the WM6 contacts feature - maybe next time.
Don't you have "Categories" as a field in your contact entry window? It's right underneath "Home addr" and just above "Other Addr".
It allows you to organize contacts into the same categories that you can apply to tasks and appointments -- Personal, Business, Holiday, Seasonal, or user defined. The only thing you requested that's unavailable is nesting.
Update: Maybe it only appears unorganized because WM6's default contacts lister does not sort by category. I'm using SPB Diary and they are indeed sorted.

I have converted from Palm to WM5, and am really missing Agendus for two very important (to me) features.
Firstly I need software that can link people to appointments and then when a contact is selected will show up that contacts history ( a chronological list of all their appointments)
Secondly I need to have custom field in the contact infomation which will sync either to specified fields in Outlook 2003 or will add the custom fields to the contact notes on outlook.
Inesoft Address book though unstable does have custom fields.
But nothing I have foound has true contact history.
Thanks for all your help
Wow!!! From Palm? Which device did you do it to? Which device's ROM did you port over?
all the excitement of a reply - only to find it is a smart ass comment. would you like the word "migrate" more
Could you have been a bit less violent in answering?
Try Pocket Informant. You can find it on the same website (under Windows Mobile section) of Agendus. Hope it helps
Thanks for that. I tried both Pocket informant and Agenda fusion. Both are better than the built in PIM management, but neither offer Contact History or custom fields.
Greetings,
I just moved back to the Windows Mobile world from a Palm Treo 700P after a year of suffering. I currently have the AT&T Tilt.
I noticed a problem with my contacts that is very odd. Some of the contacts, not all, are corrupted with a bunch of characters in the summary view on the Tilt. It is always right after the company name and always starts with (*PLMO*
It does not show up in any of the fields when I go to edit it nor does it show up in the Outlook 2007 fields. HOWEVER, when I do a simple search in Outlook on my contacts using (*PLMO* as the search string, it displays all of the contacts affected by this problem which tells me it is somehow attachted to a searchable field.
Another note, If I remove the company name from an affected contact, the corruption disappears but if I put anything back in that field, even a letter, and save the contact - all the characters reappear.
My guess is that this is some sort of corruption from the Palm Treo. I used Exchange Activesync on the Palm and obviously do the same for the Tilt to sync contacts, calendar, etc.
Here is an example of the text shown on one contact with a small amount of characters. It looks like code:
(*PLMO*<BDM>1</BDM><BDP>1</BDP><ANP>0</ANP><RGT>8=AAAAAAAA</RGT><PH6>1=(314) 555-5555</PH6>)
Most contacts fill the whole screen with garbage like this:
(*PLMO*<PCT>/9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQEBWgFaAAD/2wBDAAgGBg...........same kinda characters fill the whole screen.
Any help cleaning this all up would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Dan
Are there hidden fields in Outlook Contacts that this type of data is stored. Why is it tied to the Company field. If I clear that particular field, the garbage goes away.
I'm trying to avoid rebuilding about a hundred "corrupted" contacts.
Thanks!
Just an FYI. Must not be a very common issue...
I found an easy but time consuming fix. You just have to export each affected contact to a vcard...delete the contact from Outlook...then import it back in to Outlook.
I tried to export all of the affected contacts to a CSV file then import them all back at once, but Outlook could not read the file that it created during the export for some reason.
Hallo,
I hope this is the right forum for my question - so if not, i'm sorry!
Is there a way to change or expand the calendar-categories in manila 2.5?
There are only 4 categories: Business, Holiday, Personal and Seasonal.
I think it would be helpful to add Categories like "Birthday, Meeting, Pet, Weeknumbers, etc".
I hope anyone can help - so -
Thanks
There`s an option "Create" while selecting category. Otherwise, you can create a category in Outlook, mark an appointment. When synchronising, all categories, mentioned in meetings, will be synchronised with your Diamond.
same issue!
I was just looking into the same issue:
I use oggsync to sync google calendars and just upgraded/flashed dutty's new 6.5 holy grale R0. For me there's definitely no option "create category", though my via oggsync synced appointments do have the right category. But when I create a new appointment I only can choose from Business, Holiday, Personal and Seasonal.
Is there another way to get my google categories in this list?

bboerny
same problem on my hd2 with german stock ROM.
PUSH!
Outlook Mobile shows all categories, that are on exchange and pc outlook. But the HTC calendar shows only the preconfigured ones and not the new entries.
Is this a known bug?
Sebastian
hi,
i think its not a bug, at htc the simply do there own think with 'sense' and they simply didnt think about integration with wimo/outlook. maybe they taken the calendar from the android version of sense . anyhow i searched the web up and down and cannot find any information about it. i think they put the categories in one of there manilafiles and so a change would not be easy done.
an alternative is to use gekonewcal (its not free anymore) to make new appointments. the programm uses also own categories but you can edit them and put your outlook ones in. personaly i disabled this useless htc calender and looking now at thumbcal and other complete replacements.
regards mad
Modify Manila 2.5 calendar Categories
Not a real solution, but the best (only) solution I found so far:
change manila calendar categories
I have several outlook categories for my contacts (e.g. - friends, business, hobbies) with HD2 contacts I have to go to "filter" to separate them and once you click on one and go back, you have to filter again.
it would be nice if there was a way to have a tab or shortcut or someway for me to easily just see each category friend list and scroll thru them.
there are other contact manager programs that allow this, but I'd rather use the hd2 interface.
thanks!!!
Totally frustrated with Windows Live today! I've been called an MS fanboy, and probably am thanks to my preference for their "ecosystem," but after the Bing Maps fiasco and today's contact list issue, they're about ready to lose me.
I need to migrate my contacts (about 500) from one Live account to another. Until this point, I've managed my Live contacts mostly through the use of my Windows Phone 7 and Windows Live Mail (I'm not on Hotmail too much).
I've tried exporting my contacts from both Hotmail and Windows Live Mail, and tried importing into each of these. However, the fields just don't match! For example, I've put in names for the "spouse" for each of my contacts and, while they EXPORT, neither Hotmail nor WLM will IMPORT them!
Hotmail seems to have the most thorough export, but it won't even import it's entire export! WLM does an even worse job of exporting AND importing! WLM does ask me how I want to map the fields I'm importing, and matches most of them correctly, but the list of fields I can map to is incomplete, and even fields that exist in WLM don't show up in the list of mappable fields ("significant other", for example). GRRR
How can there be three distinct ways to manage a single contact database (phone, Live Mail, and Hotmail) and while they all seem to sync fine in the background, I can't export and import between them?!?
(On another note, I really don't like gMail's design, but don't like Hotmail much better. I guess I'm an old-school desktop client guy because just trying to get things done in Hotmail today really made me feel like I was using a beta! Pages weren't loading, pages were dumping me back to weird places ("Beauty of the Web?!?") and the options were tedious and counter-intuitive. I was editing a contact and couldn't for the life of me figure out where the link back to the main contact list was aside from hovering over Hotmail and clicking "Contacts" again. JUST. BAD. New features like Sweep are cool, but the design around the functionality is horrid.)
