UPDATE 06/23/08
I'm having some issues with a few things. As usual, time is amongst them. In any case, the LZX version is just too slow for my taste... but maybe it's because I've been using a small pagepool with it.
In any case, attached is a teaser. It's the today screen that I've been waiting for.
As far as bugs go:
LZX version: Will not display the proper XIP version. I had a problem with the LZX compression and had to use one of Aserg's LZX ROMs as a skeleton on to which to graft the ROM. This worked but introducted this issue. I'm assuming that it's an issue with the cecompr.dll used and that Aserg had hex edited the XIP number unto the imgfs.bin.
All the "full versions" That today screen is not Landscape compatible so you will not see it properly when in landscape mode and in the today screen. Also, the background interferes with the start menu's functionality. I'm working to fix that now, though. Although, it's time for sleep...
Hey guys. Just messing around with a possible full ROM (as supposed to my usual stripped ROMs.) For now, it's based on the Diamond ROM.
It has the following so far:
Arcsoft 4 (I'm having some problems with 5... my MMS stopped working, even though they work with Just2Clean.)
Custom looking HTC Home 2.1 with proxy patch for those who use it on Tmobile's network - This is changing into something else... You'll see it when the author posts it.
Big start menu icons
Big X-Button Icons
black calculator - (My ROM users know I don't ever include calculators. lol)
PocketXpdf
TMPCP
Office 6.1 + OneNote
PHM RegEdit
Advanced Config
Audio Manager
Battery Status - This will be PART of the today screen...)
Esmertec Jbed + OperaMini 4.1 (4.1 was not buggy, the newer Esmertec I was using with it was. This is a stable version.)
HTCAlbum
Internet Sharing
TotalCommander (newest version I believe)
VoiceNotes (something else I tend to remove... I'm not sure if I'll keep it...)
NETCF v3.5
RandomAccess
Oxios Hibernate/CloseApp
This will come in 4 flavors at first.
1. Standard JustMe
2. LZX JustMe - A little slower, but with much more space due to the LZX compression.*
3. A UPX'ed version - Adds a little more speed and storage, but not as much as LZX.
4. A Just2Clean variant with LZX compression. Basically, the 70MB free one.
I MIGHT add a 5th version, a 'la Ttran's biggy if people tell me what they want in it.
*LZX compression is giving me a strange bug that causes the wrong WinCE version to show under the about tab.
The list looks good ivan... only things i wouldn't like would be Total Commander and PHM Regedit, since i use the excellent Resco File explorer which includes both functionalities in 1 app
Btw... speed & Voice dialing would be nice to be included ??
Thanks again for your hard work!

Speed & Voice dialing - Agreed
TotalCommander can also edit the registry, but I prefer using PHM Regedit. Resco is great, I agree, but it's not free, so I can't cook it in. I might make a version like this, though... might.
Your ROM looks very interesting may I suggest adding HTC RandomAccess to your ROM to make it handier browsing through the contacts.
Estimated time of release?
i would use this , i agree with gambit, too... icontact or something for contact browsing would be nice. other than that, it seems to meet all my necessary apps, nothing more, nothing less.

Oh I forgot to mention that was added, too. lol
EDIT: OK... the letter images that appear in the center for randomaccess are broken, so I'm gonna have to fix that, too... Thanks for reminding me, though, or I would have never caught that.
EDIT2:
Estimated time: Whenever I get to it. I'm a perfectionist, and I tend to have too many projects going on at once... plus I rarely have time to mess around with things... and I'm very disorganized... sooooo.... soon. lol
I have a working version that I may be able to fix by tonight... So sooner than I even thought maybe...
Which reminds me... I have to update my signature. Make it J2C, J2S and kitchen and maybe a bigger donate button.

Okay, good to know now I can go to bed and wait for the release
Out on a limb
I know HTC Home is kind of a standard for Today Screen, and I used it for a while.....but, I'm kind of liking the functions of BS. It doesn't take as much power or space and I can configure it with a little HTML.
I started using it shortly after flashing J2C and really like the space. Plus I have more space on the SD for music, since I'm not using HHC now. Just a thought. I sent a screen shot of my modified Aurora theme. I'm running BS with rlToday for the clock, Weather panel, both integrated in BS, and "BS Home" for the bottom buttons.
I also like Network Folders cooked in (runs smoother).
Does TCPMP include plug-ins?
That's my two cents ........
wm5torage
perhaps a program that most people don't use...but it does benefit me personally, since it lets me use the phone as a removable usb drive at work...where I can't install activesync...so that i can transfer files as need be...and occasionally use portableapps, like portable firefox through the removable drive...since the work network won't allow users to install software on the computer.
wm5torage is a fairly small program, so it shouldn't take up too much room...
PIM Backup
for those that might flash every so often, but don't connect to outlook to sync, PIM Backup is a great way to backup contacts, sms', and calendar info...

Actually, I'd be ALL for it if you can provide me with the needed files. I've been looking for something like this, and although I'm good at making things work, I'm not good at making them look pretty. ^_^
Is the weather panel proxy compatible?
If it is, this will be great!
Network Folders?
As far as the plugins, it will. The version I have on it right now is a place holder until I can find a more decent package, though.

I back up everything through an exchange server, so normally I wouldn't use PIM backup... I might add it depending on the size of the program.
@ batterystatus = of course best APP ever...still don´t understand why people use HTC HOME
@ wm5torage great aspp for using device AS USB massstorage on my autoradio with usb-support
@pimbackup...why to include...just put pimbackup.exe on SDcard...and run manually from tim to time...
Just my 2 cents

All I have are the cab files. I've been reading a lot of the post in the Prophet forum for BS themes. prscott1 has quite a few different themes up and knows this a lot better than I do.
I'm sorry I misspoke earlier, I did mean networkplugin; HTC or Schaps. They both seem to work fine. Schaps is just 5K smaller as a cab.
This is where I got most of it. I just use weather panel in place of using UL as a plugin. I really can't take credit for someone else's work. I did a little rewriting of the HTML for the bottom buttons though.
Weather Panel does have an option for proxy settings.
Just what you need....another project.

It's easy, and compared to what you get with a stock ROM it's the next best thing to sliced bread. Battery Status bakes, slices, and toasts the bread.

HTC home is easier to setup and it's buttons are big enough for my fingers... but if you want to help me setup a working HTC clone with batterystatus that does what I need it to do and has big buttons, by all means, tell me.

This is the HTCHome BS theme. It's the same theme I'm running on my previous post just different lines showing. The message buttons are included and can be changed just by tap and hold on them.
I've attached the latest BS and the HTCHome theme, the HTCHopmeskin and the XML file are placed in the BS folder and the HTC Home files are placed in the \windows dir. It basically is editing the XML file to point to the progs you want to use. most of it is set for you. The on thing is the weather tab and the prog tab. I've seen a few setups with UL and as you can see I have it as an option in my setup.
Hope this helps. Keep up the excellent work.

I used that theme for a while, and I really like it. Using BS for themes is a bit easier, assuming you know how to edit the .xml theme. I second using BS instead of HTCHome, more customization.
Looks, maybe I will use it when it is released Still no success with the kitchen and your j2c files
I would trash this:
Custom looking HTC Home 2.1 with proxy patch for those who use it on Tmobile's network
black calculator - (My ROM users know I don't ever include calculators. lol)
PHM RegEdit
Audio Manager
Remote Desktop (I MIGHT remove this one...)

That's the list so far since I'm at work and can't mess around with it. As you can see it's a semi stripped ROM. No games, but things that I use on a daily basis have been added. All this and you still get 50MB+ of storage free. This is mostly a "I use it, it goes into the ROM" kind of ROM so far, but let me know what you'd like to go into it and you think should be removed and I'll think about making those changes happen. Remember, it depends on whether I also believe it's a useful app or not.

sounds like an incredible ROM! I am more of a BatteryStatus / Mortscript fan than I am of HTC Home, but I do like the touchflo scrolling. I would still enjoy trying your stuffed ROM. there are soo many great BS themes available now - some imitations of WM7, iphone, etc. I have added Ultimate launch recently (mainly for apps launching) so I have a BS/UL combo that is driving my latest themes. I'll post some screen shots when I have a chance (at work now) to see if anyone is interested.
Edit: I'm uploading a few screenshots of my latest (and colorful) BS theme that has UL, todayagenda, searchtoday and RSSNews integrated within.
first, second and third screenshots are the clock page with various rows showing.
fourth, fifth and sixth screenshots show some of my UL sides and cube in action.
I've been in a colorful mood lately.
The only thing I would require out of a BS theme would be the message indicators which I use quite heavily. I know that pappamopps uses them, so maybe he can add them to this BS theme being as nice as he is.
I'm on for this too if you remove remote desktop cuz I think it's useless! I would keep the voice notes though since it's kinda funny sometimtes to record sth with the phone...I'm exactly searching for something like this with the newest build since I have most of the apps in a folder called cabs on my wing Cuz in my opinion everyone needs different progs but this sounds like a good base to build a customized ROM on!
Most recent cooked ROM's come with Manilla2D, and now, thanks to the P3D team even with Manilla3D. I personally am not a fan of Manilla, for a number of reasons, and I would like your opinion. So vote please!
I'm hoping for future ROM's without Manilla preinstalled. For the following reasons:
Manilla only shows 1 upcoming appointment. That's not enough overview for me. Furthermore you have to jump through hoops to have it directly open your favorite PIM manager's calendar like Pocket Informant
When wanting to call someone while driving a car, the Cube fits best. I can almost call my wife without looking at the screen once. Scrolling to the persons-tab in Manilla takes a lot of precision and attention.
I use the sound profiles tab in HTC Home Plugin a lot, putting my device on silent or vibrating with one click. I haven't found that funtionality in Manilla
I lock my device a lot, preventing buttons from being pushed in my pocket. Device Lock could be on the programs tab in Manilla (with all my other favorite progs). But then again, it is hard to reach that tab accurately, as mentioned earlier for the persons tab
I really must admit Manilla looks way better than the standard Today screen and it's nice to have something new to look at, but I'm not willing to give up functionality for that.
No disrespect is meant to people who spend their time on cooking ROM's and sharing them with others. I really appreciate everything. I'm just hoping I won't be forced to use Manilla if I would like to use a newer/faster ROM in the future.
Hi deechte
I think that this voting not necessary because both of TouchFlo 2D & 3D will dead when the new version of ThrottleLauncher 0.9.5 will release after a few days and I think that all cooker will add it or at lest release the rom without TouchFlo
follow up this thread to see what will be ThrottleLauncher 0.9.5

I really dislike the direction that Manilla 2D/3D takes us. I looks stunning, but like you stated its terrible for us drivers. There is no way to use the phone in landscape with Manilla and it requires a lot of involvement to get where you want to be. HTC Home was elegant, simple point and click, and it worked in landscape also!

Thanks for that information. TL sure looks nice, and I see profiles passing by in that clip. However, it looks as complicated as Manilla to scroll to the tab you want, which indeed takes to much involvement while driving. But we'll see how it really works when it's released.
Btw, just another reason to have a clean ROM, so you can choose for HHP, Manilla or TL yourself.
I agree with deechte. If the ROM comes "clean" every user can install what's best for him/her (in example, I'm used to SPB mobile shell)

I partially agree with you because TouchFlo 2D & 3D needs more tweaks to work perfect which normal user can't do it by self
Ultimately, what I would love would be a custom version of Manilla (or even Throttle launcher) that would enable 2D/3D mode in portrait and then HTC Home (or whatever plug-in you prefer) in landscape.
I really like Manilla2D, I wanted 3D but it didn't work and I had to hard reset my phone by flashing a new (but updated at the same time) ROM to get it to work again.
I would love Manilla2D on any ROMs I get from now on.

sure you can disable it from Today screen and working as it not present at all in rom, and if you decide that you will not using it at all. you can delete or backup all Manila graphic picture from windows directory to free space in internal storage
After playing around with my HTC Touch Pro for 3 weeks I am not quite sure I like that TouchFLO 3D. Besides that it is graphically beautifully designed, it lacks real world functionality. Such functionality for example that the iphone has.
Tabs order cannot be changed.
Tabs which I don't need cannot be removed.
The Music tab isn't intuitive and useful
The Album isn't that useful, just better to open the Album app itself
Default pro for Calender/Contacts are akward to change with 3rd prg tweaks
The People (Contacts) flipping around favorite contacts isn't usefull besides being visually appealing. Displaying small thumbnails of multiple contacts is more effective.
The Today screen not very useful.
It's not that it's all bad, it's just that I am thinking if there may be something better than that?

I don't know where you have been looking?
TouchPro is almost the same as the Diamond,
and over at the Diamond forum we are changing tabs, removing tabs, some people are developing new tabs...
Changing grafix, colour, fonts ...
I know there are some downsides with TF3D
like the calendar sucks, the Contacts is almost only for show...
In the beginning I didn't like the Music player... but now I use it anyway... It does pretty much what I need..
what does the IP(****)hone do/have that the Diamond/TouchPro doesn't do/have??
I'm not saying that you must have TF3D if u have a Diamond/TouchPro... not at all...
All people are different and have different taste or use the phone different...
Take a look in the Development and Hacking section... or anywhere else in this forum and u will see that there are allot of alternatives..
sorry if I just babbled on here... but If u think u can't modify/customize your TouchPro... you're wrong!

Come on, chief. a "smart" phone that doesn't have the most basic copy-paste feature shouldn't be trusted.
It's like eating in a restaurant where the chef cannot even make boiled eggs.
I've been using TF3d for a while now and I think it's great! much better than the iPhone interface which you can try out with iFonz.
TF3D rulez.
I worry that if I don't use the ICI, the lack of buttons will become more evident.
So what you're saying is that Touchflo 3D is just for show, but the iPhone's interface is not? I recommend you look around in the Diamond forums for some hacks, tweaks, etc. to make Touchflo 3D more useful to you (removing, reordering tabs) and if that doesn't do it, there are tons of other apps out there that will do what you want. You just have to look for them.

I've never messed around with an iPhone, though a lot of friends have them. I'm not interested in a smartphone, I need copy/paste, edit Word/Excel docs, etc. As someone who's had computers since 1982, I've seen that GUI's and ICI's slow down existing hardware, and it's then some time before the hardware catches up. Early Windows almost swamped an otherwise fast DOS computer, for instance. Even though this CPU is faster than the Mogul, it's no faster than the old Samsung i730, which I also had.
The TF3D is nice but certainly lacks functionality...I use SBP plus and mobile shell on my TP and it´s great...howver I miss the weather tab of the TF3D with its raindrops......

+1. TF3D got me really excited about Xperia for couple of days. But later I had to go back to SE panel which is very similar to Today screen with weather, calendar, RSS, etc as it's more functional for my needs. spbPanel Mobile shell is much more functional than TF3D.
The best combination I have found is using SPB Pocket Plus and SPB Mobile Shell. Together they make a very powerful (if not beautiful) interface. I can access everything within two screen taps. When I say everything I mean, weather, ALL my programmes, diary, contacts, settings, phone book and so on. It is so much quicker to get to things than anything else I have used.
These two programmes are very easy to customise and so for me TF3D is in the bin. That's just me though.
Guy's,
Since WkTask task manager is not updated for a long time and is not perorming well on WM6.5 platform.
Please suggest some of good alternatives, it will help to get the right task manager for future (WM6.5) builds.
Cheers
QuickMenu
I have always used QuickMenu. Before anyone says anything - I don't replace the main Start Menu, but use it with it. (Make sure 'Replace system's start-menu is unticked). Also in the 'Menu Items', I only have 'Running Tasks', 'QuickMneu' and 'Programs'. The latter I set to Custom folders, which simply contains 'New SMS' and 'H-V Switch'.
The reason why I use it, is because it doesn't hide the text of the toolbar, which is important for some programs I run (eg, it displays how many characters used/left in an SMS message). And if I want to switch tasks, I simply click on the StartMenu logo. The normal StartMenu is simply obtained by pressing next to it (see attach #1).
You see, it's all in the way you set it up.
attach #2 and #3 show what happens when you click on StartMenu logo. You can then go to (or close) any task task you wish. You can even close all other tasks (except the one you've got at the front). You can add your own programs.
If you really want, it can replace the main StartMenu, but I tend not to like this.
QuickMenu 2.8en (website|download)
Quickmenu is handy indeed but it is finger/thumb -hostile. The fastest ever is aebutton plus task manager. It is not free unfortunately.
If you want finger friendly, howabout WKTaskSwitcher which thingonaspring used in his ROM? or is that just a wkTask variant? It was launched via the light button, and then I think you just chose your app (from a selection of icons on the screen).
(I must admit, though, that I didn't prefer it myself ).
Weird, WkTask works perfectly on my WM6.5

Well, wktask has issue with image transparency, it simply can't handle new styled taskbar under wm65.
QM has no issue with that but it is making conflict with honeycomb. Only htc task manager performed well on all these aspects but its memory footprint is non-tolerable.
Anyway, I'll use htc if no better alternative is discovered.

No I do not have uni. I am using an rss reader to catch up with the xda and read all the new threads. That is how I happen to be here. I think this is not an uni-only problem btw (the wktask slowness ofcourse might be more device specific).

(I must admit, though, that I didn't prefer it myself ).

What is the eccentricity of that wktask mod btw? I also use wktask and would like to tweak it too

Ok, I found it.
It's one of dot-fred's (Frederic de Clercq) who we know and love for his TaskManager (come RegEditor)
TaskSwitcher v1.5 (website)

well, wktask has issue with image transparency, it simply can't handle new styled taskbar under wm65.
Qm has no issue with that but it is making conflict with honeycomb. Only htc task manager performed well on all these aspects but its memory footprint is non-tolerable.
Anyway, i'll use htc if no better alternative is discovered.

At present I'm using trhe newest Energy ROM. Nice work.
I just wondered if there was any ROMs made for easy of visual use.
I'm a but long in the eye now and find using the phone sometimes a strain on my eyes. Age and all that
The Energy ROM is very good but I probably only use about 1/20th of the apps and stuff it loads. Some of the ones it installs I don't even know what they do
I would love to see a ROM made for vision clarity, bigger fonts and more simple but just as useful front screens.
Is there any of the cooks that can advise me on this ?
Thanks
maybe it's not a rom, but a software that you need, like point ui : http://www.wm6software.net/utilities/pointui_1_5.html
not the lame 2.0 which tries to do exactly the same as touchflo, spb etc, but the 1.5, which was very very eye and finger friendly, especially on small screens like the one on touchpro, with big icons, big texts, big lists etc..
so can I get a ROM with none of this HTC touch slide screen and Sense, maybe just a really basic front end.
well I've installed that app, started it and all I get is a blue blob start up screen than nothing happens.
Rom
If you are looking for a simple rom with a good user interface I usually go back to the basic Euro Touch pro rom. I then add a few apps by cab that I need but I also add SPB Mobile shell to it. Retains all the hardware funtionality. I of course turn off TF3D.
SPB can replace your start menu and for bigger fonts go to start\settings\system\screen and enable cleartype and adjust your font size.
When I install this rom I usually install the following apps for basic and a little advanced user functionality:
SPB Mobile shell 3.5 (UI) -Worth the money-
Advanced config 3.3 (changing pagepools and storage locations)
Total Commander 2.5 (self-explanatory)
GPSTest 1.04 (for GPS locking)
SKtools (easy tweaking and cleaning-latest version-I bought it at pocketgear.com)
Bing (directions, searching, Navigating etc.)
Lumos (latest version for backlight control)
Touch Response (latest version-simulated haptive feedback)
Microsoft MyPhone (Secondary sync)
Of course it is all based on taste. Just thought I would stick that out there for ya.
Font size is at its largest, isn't enough
I have to say out of whats on the phone with this energy ROM i think I only use 3 things, and one is now missing in the new ROM.
Phone
Wi-Fi Router
Notes and Tasks.
Google Maps
Facebook
SMS
Freecell
Mostly hooked up to my PC with MyMobile so I can use my big screen. never browse now as the screen is to small.
Just looked at thr Captains basic ROM

Why don't you try my Titanium ROM then ? It's pretty basic, IMO
Trouble I have is reading through all the threads on a ROM, theres just to much old rubbish per thread. I can't filter out whos going on about which version and which ROM is which.
Pruning should be compulsory
They get all wrapped up in tech speak and CHt HTc DDL ROM RAM NND GGH OOH, which doesn't mean a thing to me, or probably a lot of people
Ill try yours out now
What else would I need. I want the Wi-Fi and a few tools but none of the
ArkSwitch ( no idea what it is)
Backup Fav ( never use Fav to start with)
CHT ( turned that off straight away)
Shake and whatever ( why)
World Card ( Useles)
XDA UC ( no idea)
BINg
well you get the picture
There was a good simple task manager in the last ROM but its missing now
And I liked the page with all short-cuts to you most used apps. It looked like the iPhone, very handy to use.
TAEL roms are pretty good
OK I'm lost wheres the Energy Titanium please

TAEL, is that a ROM type or the maker of the ROM ?
Thanks
Rom
Yes TAEL is the chef of the rom.
I am currently using captains manilla 2.1 rom. Pretty basic uses the old TF3D type interface. but still has newer features. The only thing missing would be the facebook app. but that can be installed via cab. Seems to be simple enough yet has plenty of tools to get the job done. It has the simple HTC task manager as well.
Does Pointui.Home.1.5a.Wm5. work on it
Ahh I see it says WM5 I wonder if that why it doesn't work on mine.
Trying the Cpts one, systems font seems smaller and I can't seem to find any O2 UK set up cab anywhere
Font size???
It does enlarge through screen settings but I can try and find a magnifier that could swipe across the screen. Of course most of the chefs have knowledge enough to make a "handicapped" rom as microsoft sells it in windows. (Magnifier , speech etc.)
What would be good is an App like the iPhone one that turns the phone into a magnifier. I could deff use that when I was out to read labels and small stuff.
Using
TAELROM_v4.23569_STANDARD_21MAY10
Cpts one I couldn't get the O2 settings for.
i have found something that might help you http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/WinMobile-Magnifier-27412.shtml
Well I gone and brought an iPhone, please don't shout , Only way I can see if it is suitable for me is hands on.
Probably wrong place to ask but anyone recommend a decent iPhone forum ?
Thanks
Still got the HTC so all is not lost
