Would it be possible for someone (with a bit more knowledge then me) to update the Wizard Wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=wizard_WM_6
If you look at the available WM6 ROMS on the Wiki page you can see that almost all the new ROMS are not included. I think if this page could be updated and if we could add a short descreption/link to each rom, we would lose a lot off, "which rom is the best" and "what are you using" threads.
I agree with you partly, the wiki does need updating. I will volunteer my services and update it a bit mid next week when i have more time.
I plan on putting basic rom information and an "im stuck in bootloader HELP!" section and im not too certain what else to include.
Perhaps the rom section could include the most recent working roms that are available. The trouble is there are so many roms, many of them just variations of the same thing.
'The Best Rom' is a subjective description based on one's personal preference. First time flashers should ask themselves "What am i looking for in a rom?, How important is speed, stability, free memory etc?, what apps do i use all the time?" and then choose an appropriate rom, instead of posting a poll asking random people for their opinion on which rom is best.
I agree with you! Fisrt time users should find out for themselves what they are looking for in a ROM, but if the general information about the different ROMS is easily available in one thread, they can easily comprare them and make there own choice, instead of posting new threads eveytime.
And with regard to all the different ROMS, we can also keep it a bit more simple and only put the most recent and most used ROMS in the wiki. This will give enough choice for the noobies and will give a nice view on what's out there.
it would also help if a mod could sticky the wiki at the top of this forumso it was more easily accessible
Ok. Four days from now I will begin updating. Im not looking to overhaul what exists already but I would like to make it a bit more complete. I will aim to limit the deletion of content.
In the meantime perhaps members could suggest what could be improved with the current format of wiki. I would be interested to hear what other people think of the current wizard wiki in terms of readability, relevance of information, content etc.

I think that is a very good idea, but i do partly think you are wasting your time as the new poeple would not read it!!1 They would still ask a million different things!!

I'm sure you are capable enough to update the wiki Just need to spend a bit more time doing some research works that you are interested. I've done a whole WM6 Underground page during my research on upgrading to WM6.
Anyway, the "which rom is the best" is a personal thing which seems to be directly influenced by the 'freshness' of the ROM (e.g. new roms tend to be better than older ones). While you can always put a "best-est" rom at the wiki, noobs will probably just post and ask. Chances are, if anyone were to look at wiki, they would have looked through all the ROMs threads on people opinion on the ROM.

It is a waste of time. There are a lot of stickies that arent' read. If some just do not want to spend time reading, it will be useless to have million of flashing stickies. How many noobs do you think read one of those stickies saying search before you post?
as the title says...?
I've been using Dutty's for the past few months, but it seems like ROMeOS is the best these days...
Probably the same one as the answer to the last time this question was asked... Oh, about 20 minutes ago. Please use the search. That's why it's there.
Seriously though, Best rom? Good question. Many are geared towards different ways of using the device. Best advice is to READ descriptions and threads like the rest of us and do your own research.

Agreed - when I got my TyTN II I also had the same question.
Well the answer is simple - LOTS OF RESEARCH!!!
there is not the best one in general, but one that fits your needs.
So please read description of each ROM

Like the others said - and it of course depends on your preferences (i.e. type of apps, performance, appearance, etc.)
A good rule of thumb (ALL NOOBS TAKE THIS HINT!!) would be to look at the postings for recent ROMS and see how many responses there are to the thread. It could be a red herring if there have been a few bugs, but generally it indicates a popular ROM and from reading (yes read the initial posts please!) you can quickly determine if this might be a ROM for you. The responses from users will highlight any issues that may be specific to the software you'd like to run.
Maybe the mods can close this now - or maybe create a "Which ROM should you flash - read this first" Sticky that paraphrases this to prevent this weekly question.
if you are looking for a multimedia ROM (stable) i suggest Dutty's April 29 ROM
if you are looking for fast and fancy ROM i suggest ROMEOS 3.5
here ya go
But still like said above it has to be a ROM that fits ur needs.
cheers
Find the Best Rom! Ask 10 cooks get 10 best Roms
First Hard SPL your phone find a rom offering. Read what others say about it, then if it sounds like something you might like, Flash it. Then try another and another and keep going until you can answer that question for yourself. READ! for your self and learn. The bottom line is the best rom is a myth! it only can be the best if you say it is so. What I believe to be the Best you might Flash and think it sucks. Do some work on your own and learn! WiKi, WiKi, WiKi!
Hyperdragon ..
You can try Hyperdragon. I have been running it for quite some time now and have found it to be very stable and without almost no glitches..

It's all down to personal opinion, there are plenty ROM's to choose from, flash flash & flash till you find the one that you like...
You can aslo just check people sigs and the chefs get comments in there threads.
Hi, we are currently discussing the pros and cons of such a thread in the "About" forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466666
At the moment I am using PDACorner v14. A lot of members post their ROM versions in their signatures.
As I said in the other thread, this sort of discussion is very subjective. I'd recommend you watch the forum and try some of the newer ROM's to get a feel for what you like. That's how I do it

I truely agree to what you say we aren't here to make others decide and impose the ROMs we like but to express our experience to the ROM we are using... and why we like the ROM we are using...

I recommend closing this thread... This is NOT a chat room... There are plenty of reading material in every Cooked ROM thread, that would enhance anybody's knowledge of which ROM people are using or not using and WHY...
My thing is, I am rather new to the ROM-flashing thing. I've quickly learned alot about how to do all this, and now what I'm lacking is a cohesive sense of what ROMs are out there that I can try on my phone - I haven't the time or the inclination to scroll through dozens of pages back through the Kaiser forum looking for ROMs to try. It would be nice to have a single sticky thread where all the available Kaiser ROMs are listed (in the Kaiser forum, and other similar threads for other phones in the other forums) that just hyperlink to the appropriate thread for each ROM.
What that gives the Noob especially is a list of all the ROMs they can try. I'm just guessing that I've seen even 1% of the available ROMs. I have no idea if I'm choosing one I really like, or one I settle on because I can't find the rest.
It's really little more than a question of convenience. By having a single list of all the available Kaiser ROMs, it makes it easy for me to look at them all and choose one. Such a thread does not need any discussion to be allowed, it's just a source of information. If people want to discuss a ROM, they can discuss it in the thread that is linked to from the main list.
Does this make sense?

Trolling for regulars
vikasraj dont worry mate this board is chock full of regulars who belive that anyone who comes here should read every single post, of course it is perfectly reasonable to ask for a quick list of popular roms but that would be far too easy and lets face it give the sad regulars nothing much to read, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the regular users here apart from the flashing info, they really don't add much apart from stupid pointless 'read the board' comments, I am here to find a new rom (the last one all the regs said was great is buggy as hell) and yes a rom chart would have saved a lot of time. Like you I have a life.
Forum a dictionary meaning
A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas
Did not the original message fall into this meaning.
By its very nature the posting of Roms is trying to compete with other roms.
So a thread that simply rates roms would be a good idea and give constructive comment and possibily the sort of feedback the rom builders are looking for and why they do what they do.
It would also help those that want to extend their experience, and not get frighten away by high minded comment.
Thats All
I suggest thread starter to just see the benchmarking of Kaiser ROM's done by one of Our friends out there in the kaiser forum. I will provide link whenever I get it but its better for now to search yourself for it. Go by facts & not by values. Hope it will help you. Good luck. I think we should move forward to help cookers in making ROM better.
Sorry but I could able to find only these ones.

Yup - it already exists, here.
It doesn't say much about the roms, but it's a fairly comprehensive list.

Why are we doing this again ? I understand that people are (especially it seems the noobs ) incredibly lazy. No one wants to do their homework, no one wants to test drive. no one wants to think. Everyone wants someone else(no matter what their qualifications) to tell them what is the best.
The chefs here do not make these roms for you or me. They make these roms for the challenge and for themselves and then they share them with us. How offensive would it then be , to subject them to a competition .
It would be like going to a Hot Rod or Custom car show and judging people's hours , months or years of artistic and engineering work with a dismissive " that one sucks, not enough cup holders " guess what ? It wasn't built for you, it was shared with you. Your opinions are yours, why should chefs be forced to confront these ( mostly uninfomed opinions ) in a public forum.
Every rom has it's own thread to rate and evaluate the rom, and to try to work out whether it is the rom that is at fault or the user. That is more than enough discussion for the chefs to improve the rom.

Although getting some people to actually do this .........( with 7 total posts ) one wonders how much effort was put into identifying the source of these " bugs ."
These are the type of comments we want our chefs to be subject to on a concentrated thread ?

Dave, if you are asking, I vote no, for subjecting our much appreciated chefs. to a beauty contest or prom king type thread for the benefit of the "lazy "
Just my opinion. Thanks for listening
this would be fine topic in the Kaiser generall forum. (alot of the people who hate these types of threads cluttering up the boards like myself dont generally read the generall forum very often I believe)
This isa rom DEVELOPMENT forum. Ie if your not either posting a new rom in development or about the process of cooking and development.....you should not start a new thread here. The Kaiser generall forum is a great place for this type of discussion.
also a good way to get a overall list of the most popular roms would be to sort this forum by how many posts a thread has....click at top. And that will continue to be useful as long as people only post new roms and development related topics in here.
This topic should be moved to the kaiser generall forum and it would be taken much better/ignored by the more senior members/admins
Dear All,
Excuse me if I start a new thread here but it is my understanding that certain questions are not to be made in the development section.
I know much has to do with personal taste, your own experience and research, but I am coming from an HTC Aria, and I am looking for a custom ROM for my Inspire.
There are many ROM's posted that I know and appreciate have a lot of hard work and dedication from developers and unconditional testers and followers, as for instance the specific ROM thread for BinDroid's ROM itself alone has close to 900 posts, so please don't be offended by my questions, as for what I have seen and managed to read it seems to be that this might be what I am looking for:
Is this a stable ROM for daily use?
Are there any trade-off's / sacrifices (camara, video, flash, sound, buttons, gps, etc? that don't work or have limitations?)
I can understand that for many long time users and followers there can be "known issues" , but please understand that for newcommers these are not, so your kind comments will be most welcome.
I thank you all for your support and look forward to your answers and any recomendations that you may have.
Cheers!
I would say this Rom is stable for a daily use. For awhile I was running this Rom for little over 2 months. It's very clean. Its one of the handful of roms out here that works form start to finish. The support from the inspire to the desire hd threads for this is very quick if you had any issue that you may come across. I couldn't remember the last time I.had any major issue when using this. Battery life is great if you do a lot of Pandora browsing uploads like to fb etc. Works for me with my inspire. So would differently say flash this sucker.. its worth it.
If I remember right the only thing I did was a different kernel and a uv script lite other then that bad ass.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using XDA

Let's first start with, welcome! Secondly, while you're correct dev threads are typically (depends on the dev team or individual developing the ROM) are reserved for development, there are Q&A's for each respective ROM that you should use to ask questions regarding a specific ROM. If everyone created a separate thread about each question they had for each ROM they use you can see how chaotic the forums would get.
The best way to figure out what "issues" a ROM has is to read some of the recent posts in both the Q&A and Dev section, you'll see there what most people are dealing with. Most ROMs here are pretty stable and I would say fine for daily use (ICS has some minor bugs due to source issues but from what I'm seeing there are a couple of somewhat stable ICS builds).Remember this is a development site, so some independent searching and reading is expected on your part.
As for Bindroid, I used it way back when they firsant started with sense 3.5 and loved it. Danny and the team are real nice guys and do great work. I would say that ROM is more then capable of being a stable, daily driver. Just remember, only you can decide what you can live with and c live without. All ROMs come with trade offs, some users don't mind them and don't even consider them trade offs or issues which is why you need to decide for yourself. Goood luck man!
Okay, deferring to the wisdom of the elders on this question. I've been all over the place with ROMs, TW and AOSP, but I'm heading to college in a few weeks and I'm looking to "settle down" with a ROM and ride it out until my upgrade in November. Is there a clear winner out there right now in terms of stability/battery life that still has some cool features? I'm very minimalistic and I don't need to be able to customize every single facet of the UI, but rooted stock is a bit too dull for me! I'm on CleanRom 8.2 atm and it's good but not great, I'm really looking for the ultimate daily driver ROM and kernel, please advise a lowly serf such as myself.
I don't believe the rules of XDA allow a "what is the best ROM" thread, so you may not get a simple answer (and to be honest, people have different priorities in what they want or need from a ROM, so what may be best for them may not be best for you).
That said, perhaps the best approach would be to look through the Android Development and Original Android Development topics and look at both the early posts (the OP, plus a page or two after), and the last page or two to get an sense of the install, the features, and the level of support you might get with each ROM. You will also be able to eliminate ROM's that are no longer supported (eg, I believe Scott is no longer supporting CR, so even though it was/is a great ROM, perhaps not the best to consider).
Also google the ROMs to see if there are any YouTubes showing the install and use of the ROM. There are many good reviews of ROMs and seeing them in action is a big help.
Last, a number of ROMs are being discussed on Google+ so you may want to check out that resource too.
And, it may also be a good idea to actually try the ROMs on your phone. ROMs can act differently on your phone than they might on mine.
Hope this helps!!
My recommendation is read all the rom threads as much a you can and experiment by trying them out. "Best of" rom threads are frowned upon because it generally discourages people to read and learn. I am going to close this and trust you will be able to find what you are looking for with some diligence and have fun trying. Thats what makes this site great!:good:
