I have a new issue with my backlight. I didn't really see anything scanning a search on backlight so I'm hoping someone has seen this before and can help.
I just got a new 3200mah battery. Ever since I started using it, after turning off the device, I go back to it, press the power button or backlight button and while the screen itself comes on, the backlight does not. No light at all. I also often find that the screen is on already when I open the phone (which might explain why my battery is sometimes finding itself dead in a matter of a couple hours). I change the backlight setting to be the second tick on the scale (lowest light level) and turn the phone off again and then if I go back to it 5 mins later it's gone back to the first tick (off) on its own. However, turning on the phone right after I turn it off and it stays at the first tick. I've not be able to figure out why it keeps resetting itself to off.
Please, if you are familiar with this can you offer some direction? I'm using Helmi's WM6
Thanks
I never encountered this problem.. have you tried to keep pressed the power button and verify that backlight turns on? Or is a settings problem (backlight settings turn itself automatically to zero)?
It 0's itself. I can turn it back on again with a little difficulty (as it's hard to see the screen without the backlight).
really weird ...
have you try back to use the original battery? just for check is it something wrong with your 3200?
if it still ... (also for all problem that i can not solve) ... backup all data and ... hard reset!!
Backlight fixed with new flash...battery problem now
Ok, I reflashed with the Business rom and the backlight issue is gone. However, I have another issue now. When I charge it overnight, in the morning the power light is green, but if the Universal is off when it goes green it seems to hang and I have to reset. If the Universal is on, it responds fine. However, in both cases, when I unplug the power from the Universal, the light stays solid green and requires a reset to show the true battery status.
Also in both cases, after this overnight charge, the battery dies within an hour or two, the power level going down to 4%. As a result, I end up charging it at work (with a different charger) until it gets to 100%. I haven't tried leaving it to charge longer. But once charged on my work charger it seems to discharge properly without dying in an hour or two.
I'm very perplexed by this situation. Is this a battery problem, charger problem, phone problem? The battery, as I mentioned earlier, is a brand new 3200mah. Should I return for an exchange? I'm looking for any comments at this point.

Hi,
The locking up could be down to the overclocking/stepping built-in to some of the newer Roms. Some Uni's over/underclock quite happily some do not. Mine will happily overclock but locks up when stepping back down.
As far as the battery/charge issue it could be the battery itself or the charger, when charging at work are you using USB to charge and mains at home? It could be that the mains charger is charging too quickly for the battery to hold the charge and the device reads the battery as 100% and thus stops charging it, whereas the USB trickle charge is slower and thus the charge remains for longer.
Do you have another battery to test?
It could simply be the battery, there have been a lot of reports of Ebay batterys not reporting and holding charge correctly.
Cheers,
Beasty
Yes it is an eBay battery. The charger at work is a "main", however, not an original "main", but its also an eBay special. The original "main" at home was designed for UK but I'm in Canada so there's a voltage difference but within the tolerance indicated on it's input definitions.
I'm however inclined to agree with the "trickle charge" comment. It could be charging more slowly. And I have not left it to see if the charge light will lock on green after the charge. I'll try that during the day and charge overnight with the work charger to see if I get the same result.
I'm still open to more comments.
when you charge your 3.200 next time, try this ... on backlight uncheck turn off backlight on battery power. I hope its work for you too.

I have an XDa2i, after removing the battery pack earlier this week the unit now wont activate or take a charge from any source. Every time I unlock the battery whilst on charge the red charge light comes on but when the battery lock is applied the charging discontinues. Several battery changes have been tried but the unit will not charge or activate.
Any thoughts or advice on this issue most welcome as always.
Thanks
Pete
If you have got the Cradle then charge your battery itself by the mains adapter not by USB power, once the baterry charging light becomes Green, then put the battery in the XDA, lock the red button and leave it for approx 1-2 hours (or may be overnight), but do not try to switch-on the XDA, The reason behind not to switch-on the device is that the device's internal battery would be completely flattened and that would re-charge automatically once you put a main full battery to the device.
Try to switch-on the device after 2 hours by holding the power button for few seconds, and hopefully XDA should back on.
As far as I have understand the situation and if its right then you might have already lost all the setting & data stored on the device, sorry for that.
GoodLuck & let me know.

Absolutely no joy! the device was on charge overnight and the light stayed red. There was no response from the unit at all. Any other thoughts, or does this sound like complete system failure?
Any other advice would be welcome.
Come-oooon Peter I have said to charge the battery ALONE on the charger (not to put it in the device and charge), try to fully charge the battery (Just battery) on the cradle's back slot and then try the same.
GoodLuck & let me know

I used to get the JASJAR battery issue by blacking out on X% - X%
but not anymore when i bought a new battery and replaced it with my old one, but i found there is an issue with the new one when i fully charge it till it shows green light suddenly the JASJAR freez and wont work till i soft rest
this forbidding me from fully charging it and really a pain in the ass when i leave it to charge overnight while im sleeping but when i woke up i find that it freezed as it shows green even if i pull the charger wire from it till i soft rest again.
in this case i prevent to keep it on the charger for long time to fully charge because i fear to lose any phone call or anything during freezing.
anybody knows the solution for this issue?

Perhaps if you try to install another ROM could solve the problem
Hope it helps and good luck,
I'm having the same problem. Have tried 2 ROM. I'm using 3200 mah battery. I'm not really sure about this, but when I'm using the 1600 mah battery, it seems ok. I'll try again tonight charging with 1600 mah battery

I had this problem two times with two new batteries, I sent them back to the supplier, it's not a matter of ROM (tried on my Universal and on another Uni of a friend, same behaviour) it's a battery problem.
Marco.
yes it is battery problem, UNI won't wake up when full charging.
so make it not sleep when charging
try to change setting -> battery power
do not check on external power.
hope it work

This Is Smart
defiantly will try it out tonight
I had similar problem, but it was ROM-related. Try re-flashing Tomal 8.2 and see if it solves it. Nothing to lose. If doesn't work - you know it has to be the battery.
I generally re-flash when problems appear, especially when you had the same ROM for some time. Solves most of things.
Best of luck
1. The phone won't turn on
2. The charging indicator doesn't light up when I try to charge the battery.
3. One of the sensors on the top left turns dim red in color when I connect the charging cable
4. I can't hard reset either
thanks
Did the battery die all the way? Or did you flash a radio without checking the md5? If its a borked radio install say hello to a 500 dollar paper weight if its the battery your gonna have to charge it in another phone cause I'm not sure if cwm 5.0.2.7 has powered off charging

Yes we need a couple of info first. Also we need every information we can get in the last events before the phone got bricked. Like what did you do? what ROM? What's the status of the phone? Battery?
The more the details the better we could assist you.
Sounds like when my first Mytouch 3g broke, it would turn on the first couple of times going into a bootlope at the HBoot. It also didnt respond to charging or any other battery i tried.
Thanks for the reply strapped. I haven't flashed a radio. I did flash the virtuous infinity rom though. I'm not certain if that affected the radio. I did, however, let my battery die all the way. Do you know why one the sensors on the top left corner turns dim red when I connect the charging cable?

Oh crap the battery die all the way problem
I think your battery is dead.s
Saw dozens of problems like this on the my previous device's forum.
Li Ion batteries have this fuse inside it in which it trips off when the battery gets discharged to a certain voltage. If it does your battery goes into a suicide mode in order to protect the phone.
basically the best thing to take good care of your battery is not let it drain lower than 40% and not fully charge it to 90%.
discharging it too low drains it's lifespan drastically. While charging it too high also drains it's lifespan.
Over-discharging Lithium-ion
Li-ion should never be discharged too low, and there are several safeguards to prevent this from happening. The equipment cuts off when the battery discharges to about 3.0V/cell, stopping the current flow. If the discharge continues to about 2.70V/cell or lower, the battery’s protection circuit puts the battery into a sleep mode. This renders the pack unserviceable and a recharge with most chargers is not possible. To prevent a battery from falling asleep, apply a partial charge before a long storage period.
Battery manufacturers ship batteries with a 40 percent charge. The low charge state reduces aging-related stress while allowing some self-discharge during storage. To minimize the current flow for the protection circuit before the battery is sold, advanced Li-ion packs feature a sleep mode that disables the protection circuit until activated by a brief charge or discharge. Once engaged, the battery remains operational and the on state can no longer be switched back to the standby mode.
Do not recharge lithium-ion if a cell has stayed at or below 1.5V for more than a week. Copper shunts may have formed inside the cells that can lead to a partial or total electrical short. If recharged, the cells might become unstable, causing excessive heat or showing other anomalies. Li-ion packs that have been under stress are more sensitive to mechanical abuse, such as vibration, dropping and exposure to heat.

Cheers guys. Here's every bit of information I can recollect
A few days ago I created a nandroid backup and formatted my sd card via the PC.
I flashed the latest version of CWM recovery
I flashed the virtuous infinity rom 1.33 alpha v3 and then flashed the 1.35 beta 1 update.
Then i copied some music on to the SD card and installed a couple of apps.... nothing out of the ordinary.
The phone worked fine the last couple of days but I don't remember letting the battery die all the way. I should add that I have a dodgy battery; a couple of months ago my dear girlfriend spilled her drink and beer went in to back of my phone... since then the keyboard doesn't work (some keys work but its basically dead) and the battery has been affected as well since it now only lasts 3-4 hours after a full charge....but this issue can't have caused the problem I'm now having because the dead keyboard and dodgy battery have been around for a few months...
Last night, however, I think I let the battery die all the way and at some point, when I tried to turn it on, the phone vibrated as it does when you hold the power button, however, the screen didn't turn on. Since then, nothing has changed. When I connect the phone to the PC, it makes a couple of "connection" noises but I can't access the SD card or contents.
by saying latest CWM is it the 6.0 touch based CWM by chance?
sorry mate, i meant 5..0.2.7.
That's the CWM I'm using so it's safe. I'm also on latest VI for weeks without problem.
So it all points out to your battery.
Phone vibrating to power button means it's responding perfectly. Not sure about the light on the sensor only htc technician can tell.
But what I can say is if your trackpad button lights out red always then you got a brick on your hand.
Nope the trackpad isn't red so I guess that's a good sign. I've ordered a new battery and should have it later this week. Let's see if that fixes the issue. Will report back. Thanks all!
So, a new battery has arrived, however, it hasn't helped as the phone won't charge (no orange light) or turn on...... Since I live in Australia, I don't know anyone else with this phone. Is there any other way for me to revive my brick of a phone?? Thanks

Get a universal charger for your battery.
Sent from Spaceball One.
This is a rough situation. Even with my DS I've had situations where nothing would happen when I tried to restart it, in particular when I let the system run all the way down. It is as if the battery needs to have some charge for it to charge more. I have three batteries though (the stock & two Anker 1900's) so when this happens I just swap out the battery with one that I charged in the external charger, and I haven't had any real issues with them long-term. Since you bought a battery, what battery was it, and do you think it was charged when you got it, and do you have an external charger to verify that the charge is solid when you put it back in the phone? Your phone may be completely dead however, but at this point, I don't think anybody on the thread really can tell. This make sense? I don't want to say, "buy a set of Anker 1900's with an external charger" but it was cheap enough vs. the cost of the phone, and the DS does seem to be a good one overall.
Hi All,
So I got an external charger for the battery and it arrived yesterday. I then proceeded to charge the battery and hours later, no luck. The phone still doesn't turn on. When I hit the power button, one of the sensors on the top left turns red slightly, shortly after which the phone vibrates. However, it doesn't turn on.
Where do I go from here?
Thanks
have you tried to disassemble your phone at all? you said liquid was spilled in it, could take time for corrosion to turn up. maybe a little electronic parts cleaner or rubbing alcohol may help out
Nope I haven't tried to disassemble it yet but is that the only option remaining? If yes, I might have to give it a go because this phone is now as useful to me as a brick, in its current state.
Hi. I searched for an answer to this weird problem but couldn't seem to find a similar issue. So here it goes.
When my phone is off and I plug it to recharge the battery, after a due amount of time (or even the whole night) the indicator shows a full green battery and states 100%: fine. But ... as soon as I turn the phone on, the percentage indicator in the top right every time shows a figure between 82-84%. So I need to plug the charger back on again (this time while the phone is on) and after a while I get the 100% on the indicator.
This has happened since I bought the device and with both my (new) batteries. Pointless to say, I did try to reset the battery stats a number of times to correct the issue. No joy.
Am I the only one experiencing this? Any clue on how to fix this discrepancy? Granted it's not a big deal, but still a little annoying.
Thanks
Mike

What might be happening is that your device uses a lot of power in order to boot up. 16% of battery life seems a bit strange though.
The other thing that might occur is that the threshold for the green light to be lit is at about 84-86% (meaning: if the battery is more than 84% or something charged, show the green light).
What I suggest doing is just leave your phone on all the time and perhaps reboot it only when necessary.
As far as I know, there aren't really any solutions, but maybe you should try contacting support from the manufacturer of your device. Perhaps they know more about the subject.
Thanks exenia121,
It's definitely a weird thing. And i was more curious to know if I was the only one to report this. There must be probably a strange surge on boot up. In fact after the recharge of the phone (while being on) was completed (100%) I turned it off. But when I powered it after a couple of hours I was back at 84%. Hmmm ....
Hi, I decided to post this in a new thread because it's a different behavior from others I've seen in this forum. If the admin says I shouldn't, I can delete it and post it on other thread!

My nexus 5 had a custom ROM, unrooted, simple apps (facebook, twitter, etc) and original screen and battery.
After crashing the screen, I bought a new one plus a new battery. Immediately after connecting the new screen plug and the new battery plug, the flat cable started to overheat, and the screen never turned on - ok, something is bogus. I tried again with the old battery and had the same problem. So, the screen must be no good, I just reinstalled the other broken one that still works.
However, since then, the cellphone always is turned on with 100% battery even knowing that it is not fully charged. And, a little while after, it starts to drain, 1% per second, even when I'm charging it, untill it turns off, or - sometimes - get back to 100%.
While on bootloader, it never turn itself off, thou. But if I turn it on, sometimes this happens, sometimes the cell only works untill the lockscreen and immediately turns itself off - even while charging or hours after charging. (pls check the youtube videos)
What i have tried:
Change the charger and cable
Use original charger
Switch back to the old battery (same problem)
Reinstall ROM
Reinstall Original ROM from google
Wipe batterystats.bin (I know, I know, just in case)
Install battery calibration apps
Root and install battery calibration apps
Charge to 100%, let it drain to 20% and recharge (thou it constantly drops)
Charge all night
Wait to drain a lot and charge again
Wait to drain a bit and charge again...
And nothing worked.
I saw no similar issue on this forum, even on the "battery drain while charging" posts, they're not exactly the same issue.
So... is it possible that crappy screen broke my both batteries? Anyone know what else could I try?

Figured out the problem and fixed it. Posting it here in case someone has this issue, so after trying everything from getting a new battery to installing different roms, installing various apps rooted and not to see what's draining my battery. Funny how the phone was never going into deep sleep. Anyway long story short the problem was hardware, I changed the flex cable, the whole strip, some may call it the charging strip. Now it's fixed charges to 100% in 2 hours and battery lasts all day.
