Hello
We’re a few developers who have tried to develop this application Avot mV, running on most of Windows mobile 5.0 and newer phone with the idea of searching and playing any video from video sharing sites like YouTube, Google Videos, DailyMotion and other web locations.

You can download the latest version of application by pointing the mobile browser to http://avotmv.com
This looks pretty cool. I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Thanks!
Man this is really great work. I don't see why that app hasn't got any resonance yet if you think about all the tcmpc streaming approaches...
The only cons i find is that you can't chose the site you want to search (e.g. only veoh.com, or only youtube.com). A menu in which you can demand a specific site as source would be wonderful.
and then, the screen format is odd. if it ran fullscreen, most videos would fit, but this way they are either cropped or shown in the wrong size. specially in non-landscape mode.
but other than that, it works perfectly. video and audio stream very stable over wifi with my prophet annd without overclocking, which isn't the case with tcmpc and flashvideobundle.
keep up the good work, this is what people wanted for a long time, obviously
does this work over EDGE?
This is a pretty cool program. Please continue to develop it.
I have to agree with E_Shinobi though, it would be nice to have an option to only surf one type of site. Maybe add a menu for users to pick if they want to view Youtube videos or Google videos.
Is there a list of all supported sites? What other sites will we be able to view in the future? I know there are a lot of them these days.
Very nice program, but not all results show at this time. But I assume this is something you are working on. Also, if I accidently hit a key, like the start menu key, the program gets glitchy.

Theoretically, yes. However, depending on where you are, your EDGE signal might not be able to provide enough throughput to stream the video at full speed. In fact, I'm going to hazard a guess at "yes, but..." if you let the video buffer, you should be OK. I just tested the service on AT&T's EDGE in South Jersey (four bar signal), with a 15 second clip from Google Video, and it was OK, a long buffering time, a little stuttering towards the middle, but otherwise OK. I also tested it with a six minute clip from YouTube called the "Hubblecast" (Hubblecast 07, to be precise) and it stuttered a little, but that might have been the CPU being a little overloaded. After about 30 seconds, it seemed to hang. It might be just too much visual complexity, but it's also possible that EDGE just isn't fast enough to keep up. After a pause for 20 seconds or so, the video played OK, until it hung again. When I switched over to WiFi, I experienced similar results. So the problem might be the Dash just isn't fast enough to handle Atov at this early stage, or the servers are being slammed and destroying quality of service.
My biggest disappointment is the lack of a full screen option, or an option where the video is properly scaled, and not just smashed into the available space. Also, I'm using this on my Dash, and the thing seemed picky about how much RAM was available. I'm using the stock T-Mo firmware, and after running a few apps, it's hard to free up more than 5 MB or so, but that seems to be just enough.
This thread needs to be bumped.
Runs choppy on my Mogul, I think it's because of a directdraw issue with the mogul. Is there any way to change the output driver to GDI? How does it handle compression, I don't have flash installed, and it still streams. I would love to hear some more details on how the program actually works.
Dustin
running quite well on my wizard sometimes a little choppy, also couldnt work out how to get full screen but that was probably just me.
On my tornado, when the video is playing, I can't stop it, it just hanged while the video is playing.
Pressing home button, I can see the home screen blinking behind the video, but then late the video overlap it back
have been looking for somthing like this for some time so will defiantly be giving it a go thanks

Is there anyway to make the text in Google Maps visible without using a microscope?
Subscribing. I want to know too.
also would like to know
i would like to know the same here
Me Too. I'm very interested.
it is quite tiny!
Miniscule.
I found that turning satellite view off made the letters appears big enough to read. Hope this helps someone.
What I don't understand is why, when selected, a scale one step larger than the maximum will start to load (with larger font and graphics) but then stops and defaults back to the maximum allowed.
Using a magnifying glass is very inconvenient
I just carry one of these with me everywhere I go, just in case I need to use google maps.

I guess I'm the only one here that thinks it's an improvement. Admittedly I just had my eyes checked and I'm better than 20/20 with glasses so maybe that is the difference, but I can still read the streets on the map when holding the phone at arm length.
It is harder in satelite view but the text is the same size, it's just all the mess around the names that makes it hard to read.
I hope they keep it as it is, I want to see the streets without giant text covering the maps.
Edit: I attached a screenshot just so people can compare to see if it's the same they're getting.
What version of Google Maps do you have? my map resolution / street name size is no where near that large / legible.
Michael
Lol, now I feel like a jackass for complaining. I looked at your pic, and think it looks fine, so I looked back at my Google Maps, and I guess it is fine.
I think some of us are coming from the HTC 6800 with 320x240 screen resolution, so we're used to that.
But the program is GREAT!!! Love the street view addition (although I personally don't use it much other than to show off to my iPhone friends - but they have it too).
I have is version 2.1.0.10 of Google Maps.
When I zoom out, for a split second all the street names are shrunk and barely legible but then the screen redraws and the names go back to normal. I wonder if some people are stuck with that resolution that is one step smaller than the zoom level they should be at.
And I was wrong above, satellite view is definitely smaller text. It's still readable but not as easy as map view.
I believe the latest version is 2.3.0.9. That's what I have.
im getting my fuze on monday and i plan to use google maps alot, what i want to know if you set a route while in gps mode will it count down the miles till the next turn/checkpoint? and update to the next one? i know it doesnt have voice or turn by turn but i was just curious how it works with driving directions in gps mode. there are really no vids on youtube or anything showing how it works while moving

No, it doesn't do this. It pretty much calculates the route from where you were at the time of starting the route. You can use My Location to show where you are relative to the upcoming turn, but it doesn't function as a true navigation yet.
But don't be mistaken, this program is still amazing!

Dang you're right. I forgot that I just put on a new ROM, I guess the cab I had saved was the old one.
But even after the upgrade the text size stayed the same. Here's another screenshot if anybody wants to see the side by side of the old and the new.
I think the real issue here is that the text is actually embedded in images sent to your device from Google's map servers. That would mean that any fix for this would have to include a server-side component.
In addition, I'm pretty sure they'll have an aggressive server-side caching algorithm in order to increase performance for clients, which would probably use lots of storage space in their data-centers. For each new resolution they want to support server-side, they'll have to have a completely new image cache. I have no idea how expensive this might be, but it's possible that someone did a cost/benefit calculation, and given that VGA mobile devices aren't particularly common at this point, they may have decided it's not worth fixing ... yet.
I suggest you go to Google's mobile help forum and ask there, if you haven't already:

Ok, Android Town is now an obsolete name and application on the market. It was renamed to Peeples. Peeples is a seperate app on the market so you would need to download that one. It uses the same DB as Android Town so all your information is saved.
Peeples is a social community application which is location based. It enables users to see other users of the application on the map and strike up a conversation with them. Privacy options are also available.
So far the application has over 11k users.
Peeples has the added options of:
- uploading profile pictures and avatar through the application
- sending files from SD card with messages as attachments (5Mb limit for now)
Try it out and let me know what you think.

Running it on a G1 running CM 4.2.15.1.
Noticed a few things.
1) Registration via App Only (not a big deal, just no indication on the site as such)
2) Registration within the app resulted in "passwords do not match" ANY time I left a password field even when they did match
3) Map reacts slowly when being moved or zoomed in/out
As there's no one yet in my area run ning this, I haven't tested many of the other features. I'll report as I experience more.
Thanks for giving it a try. Hopefully some more US citizens register so you'll be able to interact with them. 5000 kms (around 3100 miles) is the biggest radius so far. Most of the users are in Europe at the moment.
Thanks for the heads up on the registration part. I will definitely try to improve it.
I was also thinking about adding content from social networks if users have any (FB, Twitter, FLickr...). What do you think about that?
And thanks again for testing
Have yet to install the newer release for testing, but looking forward to it.
The concept of linking other social media is a fine idea, provided that there are switches set in place to allow for selected/unselected status. I know plenty of users who would want to publish information for their Facebook, but may want to avoid doing so on other networks.
Either way, yeah, further integration with social media is a fine idea.
ill install and test tmmrw probably
seems pretty cool ill make sure to throw it on my EVO as soon as it freakin comes out
Added to my G1. Will let you know what happens.
Cheers. I sent you a msg in the app as well. Can you test how the send message screen looks on lower resolution please?
Testing it out now , but not many *users* in norway.
I'm the only one
Application is still in its's early days. If you choose a larger radius you will see more users (around 45 accross the world right now)
Application has just been published to the market as well, under the Social category of applications.
How about making a public chat channel that every one is in , when we connect . And late maybe switch it so it will be local / country only.
All depending on how many users this app gets
That's actually a very good idea. I'll be sure to do that as soon as possible...shouldn't be that hard (at least for a single one for starters)
Good nice app!
Already tweeted this. I'll Buzz it as well.
Private Messages look fine on the G1. No issue there.
I'll be comparing my experience to my friend's on the Nexus. Hopefully provide you some better feedback concerning how this works with the G1's older hardware.
Edit: First things we noticed, "Passwords do not match!" error is still present when registering via the app, even if the passwords do match. This issue has been replicated on the G1 and the Nexus 1.
Other noted issues:
Attempt to "Add as friend" on the G1 results in a toast of "Error". No other information contained in error.
Sending a picture on the G1 took about 1 min 45 seconds from time of shot to "Picture sent!" toast showed up.
I'll see what I can do to provide better information (such as screenshots, etc)
Let me know what else you could use.
Just a thought, an option to register via the desktop(internet) as well.
i couldn't figure out how to register until I found it as an option in settings when the app was open.
Doh.
It's lonely in the south of england......
Working on the mentioned bugs as we speak. Will probably release an upgrade today that might fix a few things.
@squirreleater: the internet register option is definitely needed. I agree.
anyone from germany?
feature request: please include option to add user with the username directly so that people from here can invite eachother other than searching on the map
install
Wont install on my Hero ??
How difficult would it be to make a driver for an input device? I know that in the android sdk there's the ddms utility that I use for screen shots, but it also logs things on the device. Or what about the recently made public google app creator?
My dad is a professional piano player and uses a laptop on the music stand for his massive collection of sheet music. The music is just se up like a locally stored website. He has a foot assembly with 2 pedals to go forward and back through the pages. It plugs in with usb.
How dificult would that be to work with the usb port on a G tablet? I'm borrowing a friends for the night playing with it but we are looking to get one but this is a big factor.

It might just work as we already have usb keyboard support so you may need only to edit the keymap to have the key/button sent from the pedal to do what what you want just like mapping a key on the keyboard to a function...
This is the pedal he has

Windows auto loads drivers for it though it gets lost in a mess of Human Interface Devices in the device manager so I'm not 100% sure which it is
I tried to Debug capture if it is getting a signal from anything from it but not seeing it.
This is what we're trying to work with with it:
You can see how I just did that in the browser,
That is a screen of the Lyrics, and here is a sheet music
and this is in the gallery.
However, he has an INSANELY massive collection, and his HTML pages link to each other so it is a large directory, and then pull up the sheet music via a link on the lyrics page. What I am imagining is that you'd click the link on lyrics page and it would ask "do you want to use gallery or other program" dialog.
What would be nice is mapping the foot pedal to that, or at least using finger swipe but I'm not sure how to in the browser.
You'll probably need to write a quick app for this. Something that will read the list of files, htm/png's whatever, provide a list, let the user pick a song and then display it, I'll bet that thing acts like a keyboard so all you'd need to do is listen for keyboard events, no driver required, and act accordingly, aka displaying the next sheet, etc.
What do ya use to listen for keyboard inputs? is that in DDMS? I'm not seeing any changes in the running log at the bottom of the app.
We both agree this is ALMOST perfect for him, but he may need bigger. The tab itself works great but when the sheet music is on it it's a tiny bit hard to read at the distance he needs.
He swears that Asus and Viewsonic are both having a 12" tab coming out but I can't find much info on that. What I did find has an i5 processor so that's a bit much. Whats the biggest android tab?

Make sure you download it from the market:

I am going to talk about a plug-in I wrote for the Sony Ericsson LiveView.
However, if you guys wish to discuss development for that device or how to make it work better, this is also welcome because it is both intriguing and under-represented (and a bit maddening at times)
Anyway, I was flabbergasted when I realized that there isn't any straightforward "watch" plug-in for the LiveView so in a couple hours I figured out how to use the SDK and created one.
I am not releasing it yet and I will only make it available it there is interest for it and I get the appropriate permissions from the people whose art I have used for this proof of concept app.
By the way, more face and hands art would be welcome!
A few (terrible) screenshots:
My LiveView was sent from the website i ordered it from, today=) I would really such an addon=)
And i can make you some artwork if i get something to work with=)
Oh, that's good.
I hope it works well for you. The device losing its pairing can be quite aggravating.
On the other hand it is a breeze to develop for; actually simpler than writing a home screen widget.
A friend of mine got it last week and said that he had lost his pairing once since he got it set up.
To me no development is a breeze i know squat about programing
But as said i would love to make you some graphics you could use so that you can release this=)
^^
I just received a sms from my post office that my LiveView had arrived
and here are a little graphic preview of some artwork you might use(?) It shows the whole thing, background, minute hand and hour hand=)
I really think you should release this addon
Ha! I like it a lot, in fact.
Can you post it as three files as described at http://www.voilaweb.com/lv_faq#createtheme?
Oh, and I updated the OP with a link to the beta apk
Will do, Just have to make some minor changes as the big and short hand are the same. and also added some indicators on the clock face.
Edit: Also, will you support this addon? i mean like bugs and stuff?
I guess, I will have to, yes
So, anyone go any feedback for me?
hey man.
i just installed your app from market and it's looking great.
i guess you can make a clock with digits or maybe a digital one.
it still disconnects but at least i have a watch
one other thing maybe you can ad an always on screen option
MrJay, first off, thanks for your feedback
The "always on" option would be nice but I invite you to think about this some more...say until your device dies on you because its damn battery is already too weak for the plug-in's current version
EDIT: OK I really don't want to sound negative. The device is really nice. I just wish it had better connectivity and battery life.
In fact, the tricks I read on how to force it to reconnect using AutomateIt, etc., end up sucking battery life like crazy.
The only thing i have to say about this addon, is that its a bit slow to update when i wake the screen. might take a sec before the clock shows the correct time.
Other than that, i love it
Thanks Marius.
Yes, I know about the 1 sec. delay it's due to sending as few updates to the device as possible, to improve battery life.
But maybe I could slightly alter this behavior for a "wake up" event.
BTW, I hope you guys are using the version from the market! It's free, but more likely to get updates than the one on my blog.

Awesome design. I fear that the LiveView's limited resolution will not be able to display something this complex, though. Not even something as good-looking as a TikTok

STOKED!!!!!
thank you, zokipirlo. this is a great contribution to the android market.
Sounds like Plex, although it does allow you to download.
It doesn't work too good, I got a lot of garbage frames, big boxes of colors and stuff. My PC is fast enough so I don't think it's a problem with the encoding speed.
Also I found a bug, You cant add an entire hard drive letter, on the server it shows like C:/\ and on the app itself it shows C:\\ and when you enter it shows nothing.
I hope this app get better because I miss Air video from my iphone.
Also, could you make MKV embedded subs appear like they appear on the PC? I mean, encoding the subs with the video on the PC (for anime fansub and stuff)
EDIT: this is on a vibrant 2.2
Holy hd batman!!
Works perfectly on my Samsung Galaxy S2, This is great because plex didn't!!
The one and only feature i can suggest for now is 3G support, For when I'm not at home.
Video stops playing (crashes to menu) if I move the slider too fast. Also buffering takes too much time. I have fast wifi and i3 laptop.
Inspire 4g , CM 7 base.

Video stops playing (crashes to menu) if I move the slider too fast. Also buffering takes too much time. I have fast wifi and i3 laptop.

In "live" or encoded playback?

This is usually a side effect of bad wifi signal strength. Are you far from your wifi router?

No, my router is right next to my PC, and I was using the PC when I tested the software... Let me try at work with a different router and PC

If that's not a problem then it's probably quality related. Can you please tell me which quality profile or bitrate in case of custom profile are you using?
I tried all 3 profiles.
First the default one, appear to be good for 10 seconds but then randomly some frame goes bad and the next 30 frames looks awful too, then it corrects itself for another 10-15 seconds and the same happens.
The dual core preset appear to be the same.
And the low quality preset its a gamble, because sometimes looks better, but still got some bad frames, but sometimes it looks worse than the other 2 presets, almost 95% of bad frames.
Could it be a codec problems? I use CCCP for my video playback needs...

Paid version should work the same as free. Is there any difference? What is not working?

The premium version doesn't show on the market for the Atrix 4G. And when you check the online store it says this app is not compatible for the Atrix 4G.
