Ok, Android Town is now an obsolete name and application on the market. It was renamed to Peeples. Peeples is a seperate app on the market so you would need to download that one. It uses the same DB as Android Town so all your information is saved.
Peeples is a social community application which is location based. It enables users to see other users of the application on the map and strike up a conversation with them. Privacy options are also available.
So far the application has over 11k users.
Peeples has the added options of:
- uploading profile pictures and avatar through the application
- sending files from SD card with messages as attachments (5Mb limit for now)
Try it out and let me know what you think.

Running it on a G1 running CM 4.2.15.1.
Noticed a few things.
1) Registration via App Only (not a big deal, just no indication on the site as such)
2) Registration within the app resulted in "passwords do not match" ANY time I left a password field even when they did match
3) Map reacts slowly when being moved or zoomed in/out
As there's no one yet in my area run ning this, I haven't tested many of the other features. I'll report as I experience more.
Thanks for giving it a try. Hopefully some more US citizens register so you'll be able to interact with them. 5000 kms (around 3100 miles) is the biggest radius so far. Most of the users are in Europe at the moment.
Thanks for the heads up on the registration part. I will definitely try to improve it.
I was also thinking about adding content from social networks if users have any (FB, Twitter, FLickr...). What do you think about that?
And thanks again for testing
Have yet to install the newer release for testing, but looking forward to it.
The concept of linking other social media is a fine idea, provided that there are switches set in place to allow for selected/unselected status. I know plenty of users who would want to publish information for their Facebook, but may want to avoid doing so on other networks.
Either way, yeah, further integration with social media is a fine idea.
ill install and test tmmrw probably
seems pretty cool ill make sure to throw it on my EVO as soon as it freakin comes out
Added to my G1. Will let you know what happens.
Cheers. I sent you a msg in the app as well. Can you test how the send message screen looks on lower resolution please?
Testing it out now , but not many *users* in norway.
I'm the only one
Application is still in its's early days. If you choose a larger radius you will see more users (around 45 accross the world right now)
Application has just been published to the market as well, under the Social category of applications.
How about making a public chat channel that every one is in , when we connect . And late maybe switch it so it will be local / country only.
All depending on how many users this app gets
That's actually a very good idea. I'll be sure to do that as soon as possible...shouldn't be that hard (at least for a single one for starters)
Good nice app!
Already tweeted this. I'll Buzz it as well.
Private Messages look fine on the G1. No issue there.
I'll be comparing my experience to my friend's on the Nexus. Hopefully provide you some better feedback concerning how this works with the G1's older hardware.
Edit: First things we noticed, "Passwords do not match!" error is still present when registering via the app, even if the passwords do match. This issue has been replicated on the G1 and the Nexus 1.
Other noted issues:
Attempt to "Add as friend" on the G1 results in a toast of "Error". No other information contained in error.
Sending a picture on the G1 took about 1 min 45 seconds from time of shot to "Picture sent!" toast showed up.
I'll see what I can do to provide better information (such as screenshots, etc)
Let me know what else you could use.
Just a thought, an option to register via the desktop(internet) as well.
i couldn't figure out how to register until I found it as an option in settings when the app was open.
Doh.
It's lonely in the south of england......
Working on the mentioned bugs as we speak. Will probably release an upgrade today that might fix a few things.
@squirreleater: the internet register option is definitely needed. I agree.
anyone from germany?
feature request: please include option to add user with the username directly so that people from here can invite eachother other than searching on the map
install
Wont install on my Hero ??

I'm pleased to announce the release of the Advanced Map Live Wallpaper, which allows you to show your position on a variety of maps on the homescreen.
Features:
* Wide selection of maps (Ordnance Survey, Google, Satellite, Terrain, Bing, OpenStreetMap, USA VFR and IFR charts...)
* Battery friendly - it uses network locations and shuts down whenever the homescreen isn't visible.
* Data friendly - aggressive caching means that you should only need to download a map tile once.
* Variable zoom on all maps
* Accuracy circle (can be switched off)
It's partly based on my original OS Map application, and draws on code from the open-sourced Rmaps2 and the AndNav library. Consequently, this application is also open-source, with the source available as soon as I've figured out how to use the Google Code repository (or you have have it as a ZIP file by email).
Notes:
This is a BETA release. I'd appreciate it if you could post any problems in this thread instead of leaving a low rating on the app. Ordnance Survey maps won't work outside the UK.
Right now, if you turn GPS on, you may need to select another wallpaper before it'll turn off again. You might also need to turn "Refresh Position" on in the settings page, which will be fixed in the next update.
Finally, I apologise to whoever's house is in the screenshots since I picked a location at random!

Update (14/06/10):
New version (0.9.3) uploaded. Minor cache fixed, force-close issue *hopefully* fixed, some general tidying up in the source. If it force-closes for you, try clearing the application data. Alternatively, enter the settings page, choose a different map type, and it should work. You can change the map type again after that. Hopefully resolved now I've remembered to close the database... ;-)
For those who can't find it, it's available to download here. You'll have to check for updates manually, I'm afraid, and if you keep an eye on the Market it should turn up eventually.
Update (16/06/10):
New version (0.9.4) uploaded. Fixes include landscape support and the really irritating bug where it would forget to load map tiles should now be gone.
Get it here (if you can find it on the Market, I strongly recommend downloading it from there instead):
http://maps.androidgamer.org/wallpaper/release/Advanced_Map_201006161712.apk
Update (5/07/10):
Version 0.9.5 uploaded to Market. Only major change is the addition of the Hike and Bike map as requested by a user. It should show up as an update on Froyo.
Also discovered the reason why it's not showing in the Market for Droid users - turns out that they don't respect the "Live Wallpaper" filter and won't show apps with that enabled in the Manifest.
Out of curiosity, is anyone still encountering problems with either the wallpaper itself, or finding it in the Market?
Update (4/08/10):
Version 1.0 uploaded to the Market. Major changes include the addition of Google Traffic and smooth scrolling between home-screens. (I hope you appreciate that, it took AGES to implement...) ;-)
There's an issue with force-closing on some phones which I haven't been able to resolve - no one has replied to my request to run Log Collector, and without a log I can't fix the problem. The Android Market is supposed to show crash reports, but doesn't.
Donations:
I've never been keen on asking for money, but there is a "donate" version to the Market. It's identical to the current release (which will always remain free) but it would be great to get a bit of reward for the hard work that goes into writing a Live Wallpaper.
It's only £1 and donations provide an excellent motivation for bug fixes and new feature requests. If you have the normal version, you'll find a donate link in the settings page.
Looks good, gonna try it out.
awesome
hmm interesting will try it for sure!
Even with the battery saving features, I can't imagine this not being a battery hog...
Wow, this is awesome. Thanks!
It would be really cool if we could get an overlay like: greenchairpress .com/blog/?p=1392 working. It's cool having maps, but it's not something I see myself using day to day. If there was a map alternative that was a bit more stylized that would be rad.
looks good. Just installed it. will let you know.
Not showing up on the market for me
alexland - is it possible to browse Bing Maps in that style, or does the Microsoft server have to render each mini-map on request? If it's possible to just get the tiles, in theory it should be possible to have it on the homescreen.

Me either. Bummer.
The accuracy circle bothered me on the other map wallpaper, thanks for letting us disable it. Are there plans to enable panning, or was that left out in favor of battery life?
Sick man. Thanks
Can't find it on the market either.
German Milestone from O² here...
Also, could you maybe add VFR/IFR maps for Europe in the future? Since I'm in aviation this would definately make it a wallpaper to keep =P
Thx in advance and before even having tried it,
Stefan
Not showing up on market, USA T-Mo here.
I can't see it in the market either.

found on market, thanks... will give a try!
Clearly something is up, there are lots of us unable to find it in the market. I learned about this app on an Android site and the one and only comment to the article was someone saying that they could not locate it either.
This looks like a great app, but I can't find it in the market either when I scan the QR code.
I have a Sprint hero on 2.1
ok, so, i think this only shows up on froyo. I was running cyanogen 5.0.7 (2.1) on my nexus one and it wasn't showing up. Then I restored to a nandroid of froyo (2.2) I had and searched for it, and sure enough it showed up, also, the screenshots in the thread are froyo, or at least look like it, so that also leads me to the conclusion its froyo market only
Hi folks,
i am proud to announce the Release of v0.5.11 of ttrss-reader, the android-client for Tiny Tiny RSS:
TTRSS-Reader for Android
Tiny Tiny RSS
TT-RSS is a php/javascript-based reader with a google-reader-like interface, running on your own server with mysql/postgresql and php. It supports multiple user-accounts, feed-categories, labels, sharing of articles and automatic updates every x minutes.
ttrss-reader for Android
Ttrss-reader for Android was started at code.google.com by J.Devauchelle but as i couldn't reach him for several weeks i forked the project: (see note above for URL)
I implemented some usability features and then started implementing local caching since before EVERY single piece of data was requested from the server, slowing down the browsing a lot.
Now i think the program is in a quite usable state, although the local-caching doesn't work so well. The server-side provides API-methods to retrieve data as JSON-Objects but they are focused on transferring a low amount of data in every request (eg. only one article with content is sent at a time, not all new articles which would be much easier).
So if anyone want to keep his feeds away from google and do stuff on his own, in my opinion this is the way to do it. And please excuse my english. ^^
I would appreciate any ideas what could be improved or bugreports and i'd feel honoured if some of you would like to try this app or even join developement.
Some Screenshots:
Greetings,
nils
Hi,
Just to say that I like this app but my ttrss instance seems too big for this app. Android ask me to kill the app everytimes it makes a refresh of the data.
for information : my ttrss run on a PC and is hosted at home. It has +12000 articles
Keep up
Definitely trying this soon
My carrier should have the new Android phone I want in this week. I will definitely try this and get back to you!
Getting error message? I installed this, and put in my tt-rss location, username, and password. It gives me this error message:
"error":"API_DISABLED"
@celticchrys: That means you have to login to the webinterface and enable the API in your user-preferences. Dont know why but the API-access is a per-user-setting in Tiny Tiny RSS so every user has to enable it for himself.
Greetings,
nils
@lordnils: Thanks, I'll give that a try.
***EDIT***
It force closed on me a couple of times, did fetch my articles once, and now says it cannot. I also got a very long error, many screens long, that begins with :
Oupd...
I was unable to conenct to your Tiny Tiny TSS instance, please check your connection and/or connection settings.
Error details:
A JSONObject text must begin with '{' at character 1 of <html>
The above is then followed by basically the entire code for my login page.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Hm, something seems to be wrong with the URL for API-Access. You should make sure you entered the URL in the settings exactly like the URL you use to access the webinterface of Tiny Tiny RSS.
If the problem still exists it would be helpful if you provided me with the output of ADB (or aLogcat from the market if you dont want to mess with the USB-connection and the Android-SDK). It would be the easiest way to resolve the problem if you opened an issue on <url for the google-code page of our project where you can start an issue> so other people involved could try to fix the problem, too.
Greetings,
nils
ps: sry for not posting urls, i dont think it is a good practice to encourage people to spam somewhere so they can post links. so i just dont do it and wait for the protection to dissappear. :/
sent pm
lordnils, I've sent you a PM with the requested log.
Thanks!
I just released the TTRSS-Reader on the market:

Hey lordnils,
I'm having the same problem as celticchrys. I am using the exact url that I login to via a browser, API is enabled, but still get the documented error within the program.
Any ideas what I might look at?
First of all, which versions are you using (Tiny Tiny RSS and TTRSS-Reader)?
Then: Can you acquire the output of logcat (aLogcat from the market or "adb logcat" if you got the SDK installed)?
If you are using old versions (older then Tiny Tiny RSS v.1.4.3.1 and TTRSS-Reader v0.7.3) please update first and try again. There are some issues with older Versions of the API which could cause this problem.
Greetings,
nils
I've just checked, and I'm running TTRSS 1.4.2 on my server, and I have the latest Market version on my phone.
Perhaps this is the problem! I'll look into updating my TTRSS server install, and get back to you.
Thank you! This is great! I didn't want to move all my feeds to google so this is perfect!
I've been using google analytics for a little while now and grown to like the way information is laid out for the desktop browser version. Then I looked on the market and found some apps that give you basic information from your account.
But they left me a bit wanting. I was hoping for something more informative, easy and fast to read and remember.
Now as I'm programming illiterate I can only speak for usability and general feel of the app, while appreciating and giving credit to the people putting their time, talent and effort into writing them. The following is not a criticism, it is a proposal for improvement.
So I tried to make something better. Thought about why the desktop version works so well for me and sought out ways to include as much of it onto a small screen. So I drafted my idea of an interface and interaction plus an explanation on how I see it working.
I've done this with a 480 width so that anyone with a 480x800 screen can see how it would look with a bit of zooming 1:1
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As you can see, I've done things a bit differently. Starting with choosing the account and profile, everything is on one page. No more 2-3-4 taps before you get what info you need. This should work by setting one account and one profile as default in the settings. Also integrated graphical representations with a bit of interaction to help with bringing a lot of info onto a small screen.
Also chose the areas that I think would be of most interest. This might not be true for everyone so i'm open for suggestions.
Now, I have some questions.
1. Is this technically feasible?
For one, the apps on the market I've tried so far take a few seconds to return 20-30 lines of text. (my device is a htc desire) How much time wold it take to download and process all this behemoth of data? If too much, could the interface be loaded sequentially by section?
2. What are the hardware platforms that this app could work on with decent performance?
Hero class? Snapdragon?
So I'm looking for someone that is interested in either:
- coding the app from the ground up
- or improving (at least i'm hoping this is an improvement ) his/her existing app with all this
I'm also looking for some feedback of existing analytics apps users.
I would help in any way my programmingly crippled self could. I can also do all the things I've done with Timester: concept, graphics, promotion.
Here is the thread for Timester: Timester development thread
Could someone with experience tell if this is possible?
Thank you
Hello zamolxees,
thanks for the idea. Of course this would be possible to realise. While implementing my app GAnalyticz I had several problems and questions you also have:
How to display the big list of data on the small screen?
How to make the app as fast as possible?
What is the best user experience?
...
I decided to make only a text based view (table). I this case you can show the data on every device with any resolution and you have all information you need. I know it's not so fancy, but it is/was ok for a first version (I think ).
Second important part was the app performance. Google hasn't a library ready and there aren't any good libraries available, so I had to call the Google API on my own. You can get the data in xml via http request. Just combine the metrics & dimensions available in querystring.
So getting the data is very easy. The easiest way to get all the needed data is to make one http request. But then you have to sort and filter the xml which needs a lot of performance. This made my app unuseable. Because of this I decided to make multiple requests. In this case I can just parse the xml and output the data while iterating through it. This is much faster (the fastest way I found, I've tried a lot...). But as you say it is also slow this way...This is because the response from the Google service is really really slow...
So far about my app. Technical it is easy to implement (I think the graphical stuff is the hardest part, but there are libraries for this). The challenge is to find the perfect way to show the data on the device (and to get a good performance for this). You could also load the data sequentially (as I also did).
In my opinion, the hardware is not a problem. This should run on every device.
Actually I don't have enough time to implement this or improve my app (because of another app ). But I hope you will find another developer and looking forward to download this app
Many greets,
aquasonic
Hey, thank you for your detailed input.
I think that one way to help with slow response time from google servers might be to make the requests for data in the background at set intervals (6 or 12 hours) and when the app is opened do the processing of data already received.
The user could clearly see the hour of the last sync and also choose to refresh if they wanted to.
Isn't there a more elegant solution to getting analytics data from google?
Thanks again aqua-sonic, good luck on the other app, let us know how it turns out
Anyone else wanting to take a stab at it?
I'm thinking that as there are a lot of people using analytics apps now, all the more would want to use this.
Any existing users would care to express their opinion?
Would this interface mean an improvement that is worth investing time and effort into?
Would you like to see this done?
Know any good good developers willing to write the code?
Enough questions.

Why does it need Internet connection and my location? Looks suspicious.
I would have purchased the pro version, but the permissions it asks for include location and full internet access.
Sorry, I don't buy programs that ask for those permissions.
If you will remove the crapware and malware from the pro version, I'd be happy to buy it.

Hm...I can't see the video here at work, but I'd still rather have a version that didn't have all that stuff. I'd be happier with just allowing the app to save the files someplace that a dedicated app can get to it for doing those functions.
Guess I've become a minimalist after having to fix my wife's phone so many times. I no longer like apps that appear to require more permissions than are obviously necessary to accomplish the task. This looks like it might be a great app, and I'd be happy to pay the cash for it, but only if it's an offline app that saves files locally for other, dedicated apps to synchronize with whatever service you desire.
Okay, update: I had a friend check the video. It looks to him like the author is using a Chinese-language phone.
I'm a security professional. Perhaps you didn't read about the Android Trojans that have been found on Chinese apps last week by Lookout. Also perhaps you don't know that China has a cyber-warfare unit that actively attempts to compromise systems in other countries. Heck, look at what they did to Google!
Again, sorry, but I'm not going to put an app on my phone that's asking for all of those permissions.
Dev, I'm sure that you've put a lot of time and effort into your app. I'd love to purchase it, if you'll put out a version that doesn't ask for those other permissions, so that I'd feel safe in using it.
Thanks

Anyone tries our app?
Hi everyone, this is a bit of a crazy idea we hacked together over the past few days. It automatically puts you in a chat room for every app you have installed on your phone so you can talk in real time with everyone else who has the same app. We're releasing it as a an early alpha to get feedback, i.e. is this totally dumb or kind of fun? :good::cyclops:
UPDATE 5: We're now in *BETA* as of version 1.3. Just added user profiles, wallpapers, auto translation of messages to your language, and a lot more. Hope you like it!
UPDATE: Also in the play store now: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.larvalabs.myapps
UPDATE2: Just uploaded a new build to the play store with the following new stuff:
* Clickable links in messages
* Like button with like count!
* Fixed a bunch of screenshot sharing bugs
* More messages visible per chat
* Spam filtering and banning based on flagging messages
* Crash fixes
UPDATE3: Another quick update just posted to the store: v1.02. It lets you delete your own messages, a big user request after a few mistaken screenshot posts. We're also working on a lot of behind the scenes Troll Control(tm) and other improvements to the app.
UPDATE4: Just posted v1.2 which includes device chats (I'm in "Nexus 6 chat" for example) and "watching" rooms to let you be notified of every new message in a room.
Still working on stuff, but thought we should get that out there immediately. Hopefully even if you installed the APK directly you'll get the update.

We automatically detect which app a screenshot is for and offer to upload it to that chat.
Swipe in from the bottom right of your screen when in any app and you can jump straight to the chat for that app.
All the usual chat stuff: you can like messages, mention users, etc.
Hope you like it, let me know if you have suggestions or feature requests!
Great APP!
Good for now :good:
Will report if something.
haha nice
Great idea I like your app
Thanks for the positive feedback so far everyone, it's been fun hanging out in calculator chat, haha.
I've seen a couple bugs that we're working on, but nothing too bad. Probably see how it goes tomorrow and do an update if needed. Thanks again.
Omg...who came up with this great idea...this needs to be featured on xda...hope it doesn't die
Awesome, glad you're liking it! It's definitely an experiment right now, but obviously the more people who use it the better it gets. I could see it being used for asking for help with an app or game (how do I get past this level?), trading high scores, talking about new versions of an app, etc.
The apk link has the wrong mime-type set server side. At least in Firefox this causes it to open as a text document.
Great idea and I definitely will give this a try.
This is genius.
You should add a search function, to quickly find apps you want to chat about. Also maybe a sort option, like sorting by most recent messages.
screenshot
Hi, loved the app, but the screenshot thing isn't working.
Also, the idea of a search bar is really good.
It would be perfect if the chat window would actually open in the bottom right on top of the app. I'd be more tempted to actually use it that way, especially on tablets where we can continue using an app while the chat is open.
Perhaps something like Facebook's chat heads would work here really well.
Nice idea
Suggestion
This is absolutely a great idea!!!! :good: :good: :good:
Suggestions:
You can clean from spaces the user id.
Or use some credentials like google and twitter
Ability to sort apps by name
Ability to hide apps (some of them don't make me proud u.u)
Eventually one problem will be about moderation issues. xda it's a great community but winter is coming.
Etc etc etc, but dude, this is awesome!!!! Love it
Great idea indeed! Now users who are using the same application can get quick info and discuss the application with one another.
Very cool! I hope this catches on. Would be very useful to ask questions and such about an app or just have random fun talking about it
it looks pretty awesome. wish i had an android phone at the moment to test it out!
I really like this idea, hope this catches on too!
How are you storing/organising the data in your backend?
This is amazing. And so original that it delights my bones.
A word of caution : provisions for spam blockage and overcrowding of a single room are in order.
Good luck, amazing stuff.

this sound amazing
any chance for an ios version?
add a device chatroom and we could get rid of XDA altogether!
