I recently installed WM6.Crossbow.WWE.HTC.Wizard.v5.2.660. Had no problems and then all of a sudden my contacts disappeared. Caller id works and recieved sms shows contacts name.. have i changed a setting to not show sim contacts? Is there a setting to do that?? any help would b great
Well, first of all, when installing a new ROM everything in the phone memory gets wiped, including contacts, but you already know that.
Regarding contacts on your SIM, that is what I think you are referring, they are not touched, but most cooked ROMs have a setting in the reg to hide those contacts.
You have 2 options in here:
1- Edit your registry, go to HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone. Look for the key ShowSim, it should have a 0, change it to 1. With this you Sim contacts will show in your contact app.
2- This is the most effective solution, however. Go to the Sim Manager app in programs. There you will find all your Sim contacts. Tap Menu, Select all, Menu again, save to contacts. With this you will have a more flexible way to manage them.
Cheers.
I disagree, i've tried almost every rom on XDA for wizard since june 06 and almost everyone shows sim contacts as a default.

Hi,
I have explored the whole registry but couldn't find a way to hide sim contacts from aprearing in today's Dial up look up. Anyone has any idea how to hide sim contacts from appearing in Dial up look up?
I have already made changes in reg for contacts so now in my contacts i don't see sim contacts but still appear in Dial up look up.
?
Found an answer here:
http://forum.mypdacafe.com/viewtopic.php?t=9593&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=250
BUT I cant seem to get it working, anyone had success?
Hi
That Solution only works for contacts, i have been using it since day one, but somehow i'm unable to find any registry setting to hide sim contacts in dialup lookup.
But that registry change should work for contacts.
I have a Ipaq 514 with wm 6.0 for a couple of days now and allready found a bug which really annoys me...
I can not seem to keep my sim contacts hidden, i tried:
settings -> phone -> call options -> Show SIM contacts (unchecked)
registry editor:
HKCU>ControlPanel>Phone>
Set Dword Value "ShowSIM to 0" if does not have dword value create it.
This both works, but only for a while, when i reboot the device or even when i check my email, the sim contacts show up again
For my Tytn II i have a cab file: KaiserSimFix.cab that hides the contacts.
Is there a simmular solution for smartphones?
Delete the SIM contacts and store them on the mobile? I have too many contacts with multiple numbers to store on SIM anyways. Back them up regularly and sync it with AS.
Also, ensure that you are setting the registry key, waiting about 20s and then soft resetting for it to stick.

Thanks but i dont want to delete them from my sim, i allways put my contact both on sim and in the phone to sync with outlook.
Also i tried resetting after the registry tweak but that doesnt make any differance.
But is this a common thing on smartphones or is it just my ipaq? because i also have a old wizard with wm6.0 that doesnt have that problem...
Hey guys, so i have a problem. I know that in the contacts I can hide all the repeated contacts, meaning the duplicates that show up from google, and t-mobile, and the ones on the SIM card. I have all my contacts linked thro HTC facebook. But when I go to the dialer or to send message it shows all my contacts, so some people show up 4 times!
Is there anyway to hide all the duplicate contacts in dialer and MMS, and secondly, when I receive a message from someone it shows their SIM contact which has no picture and their name as I put it in, and not as it has been "linked"
Thanks in advance!
I am on the same boat. Its annoying cause I only want the Google contacts. Mines has both synced T-Mobile backup and Google. Gonna reset the phone and remove the T-Mobile app before I sync anything and get back to u

I had this problem and it was unbelievably frustrating when I first got this and after a few days of searching and banging my head against the wall, I found something that worked.
This is how you solve it (or how I solved mine).
1: Sync everything to Google. Edit the contact list in google (use the automatic duplicate deletion), delete useless contacts etc.
2. Remove contacts from EVERYWHERE. Sim card, phone, uncheck google sync. Your phone should then be completely empty for contacts.
3. Re-sync with google contacts. if you want you can copy it back to the SIM and you shouldn't get doubles. I think I just left it with google only but the end result is I don't have 9 different "danny's" show up when I go to compose new message because I know three of them.
Ok great, I'll try that out.. When they gave me my phone, I told the employee at the store that I didn't want the tmobile contacts, and yet, she still set it up. I hope they fix these silly thongs with the update
Try this
I had the same problem, shows same contact more then 1 time. i resolved it this way
1) Go to Contacts (App)
2) Press Menu button (2nd touch button from left)
3) Select View
4) Now select (Check Mark) the contact you want to see. in my case i unchecked all option but Google and Facebook for HTC
5) Select done.
now it will only shows single entry for each contact
Thanks
when I first got my phone it imported contacts from all over the place, including many places that I didn't want it to. It's a nice feature but I only want to use the contacts in my google account. Initially the phone found contacts on my sim, and t-mobile account. I understand in the contacts app you can go in to view and turn off the other sources, but my problem is on the phone app. When you open the phone app the first screen lists your contacts with your recent calls at the top. In that list my sim contacts are still showing. When I use the "Smart dial" feature it searches all the previous contact sources. Is there a way I can wipe all contact from my phone and just start over with my google contacts?

So you've tried People > View > Then only have your google account ticked?
Because when i do that none of the contacts from my other accounts show up anywhere else...
I did do that. And on the people screen (which I believe is just the contacts application) those settings are honored. Even with those settings set properly when I go to the main phone screen I see sim contacts mixed in with my google contacts

weird..
The only other thing i'd suggest is moving your sim contacts over to the phone, so they will show up as phone contacts, then hide everything else and see if that makes a difference.
Other than that you might have to delete/unsync all the other accounts with your contacts.
Ya, it's interesting. The people screen definitely pulls a different list than the main phone screen. I removed all contact sources from the people screen so that I see no contacts at all, then on the main phone screen nothing changed. I still see google and sim contacts.
Is there a way to delete all contacts and just start over without wiping my phone?
Well, for the love of god, don't put skype on your phone then. Skype totally raped my contacts list. I have all these random weird contact names in there now that I have no idea who they belong to. It seems that Skype doesn't like to fill out the contact info very well on the mobile device.
Who the hell is bootmomma? LOL! I would really like to get this issue sorted as well. If I find a way without sorting it by hand, I will let you know. The only other way I have found is to sync everything to google and then use the merge duplicates, then sync everything back. Also, there is an app that I use called "Contacts Cleanup" that formats all the numbers on the device to a uniform ###-###-####, which I like. Becareful when linking contacts between types, because sometimes it confuses different things. It has caused me to get numbers interchanged and stupid things to happen, especially when allowing <ahem> Skype access to the address book.
That's the best I have. Hope maybe it helps you a bit.
To wipe all of your contacts go to settings> applications & find contracts storage & wipe that.
A for skype just choose not to sync your contacts in the actual application. They'll still show in the app but won't import to the phone's contact list
Got the same problem as well! thanks for xnifex's idea I am doing it now
I just upgraded from myt3g (didn't have sim contacts problem), before that some crap phone I forgot. But on my new sensation, My SIM contacts are present (duplicates of what I have in my gmail contacts) and I'd like to delete them. I hold down and click delete but that doesn't work. I go to the delete menu and select all the ones that are SIM and delete, but that doesn't work either.
Any way to delete SIM contacts?
So if you go into your contacts, press the menu button, and select view, you should be able to uncheck the sim option which should remove them from your list. Have you tried that yet?
Is it possible that they got synced to you're google account when you initialized the phone right when you got it? Or the person helping you set it up did it for you?
Delete Sims contacts
On Sensation
Goto Contacts app
hit menu > view > uncheck all, leaving only sim contacts checked > done
hit menu > delete > select ones you want to delete or select all > delete
back > view > recheck contacts you want displayed (google)
I've installed many sim contact apps. None of them worked! Thanks
Sorry, you can't delete SIM contacts as far as I know. If you try deleting them it will show a deleting progress bar but nothing happens. You can delete contacts from other sources however.
I took my sim out, borrowed someone else's regular phone and deleted it from there.
Really retarded how you can't even ignore the sim contacts.

Yes you can delete your SIM contacts. If you do not know how to do a simple thing doesn't mean it can't be done.
use this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.happydroid.c2s&feature=search_result
just put the sim in other foon and delete the contact there

Don't you think I already did that? I wrote earlier and explicitly said that it didn't work. I did exactly as you quoted. I even told you there was a progress bar that showed it was being "deleted." And like I mentioned it did nothing.
I moved my sim to another phone and it deleted it just fine. I could however, delete contacts from other sources, just not the SIM sources. Maybe you modified your phone to do stuff differently, my phone is a rooted stock ROM.

I have done this in 3 different HTC mobiles out of the box when I bought them with stock ROM and not rooted so if you still can not do it maybe there is something wrong with your phone and you should check it.

This is just stupid. Why isn't there a simple setting for this ??????
With the different apps you can choose to move/copy contacts to SIM and delete contacts from SIM etc. But why not a default
"Show only contacts from"
-SIM
-Phone
-SIM & Phone
-Whatever
and NO, there is no "View" setting on my phone
Anyone got a tip on an app that can actually do what I want ? Which is to show only the contacts which are on the phone and only the ones that I choose ?

I don't want to move or copy or delete anything. I just want to hide it on the phone.
SIM card deletion
I had the same problem with my HTC Sensation.
1. Remove the back cover (Do not remove battery)
2. Gently move your SIM card around to improve connection
3. Try to remove contacts again.
Hope this helps!
