mp3 ringtone on WM6 (QTEK 8310) - HTC Tornado

Hello All,
I just upgraded to the last WM6 (really cool OS btw)
I've been going through the treads but I can't find a solution for my stupid problem.
I can't set up my old ringtone, before I just needed to past the in the "\Application Data\Sounds" directory and I could select them as ringtones or custom ringtones.
But since the WM6 they don't appear anymore in the options.
I copied them everywhere
- root directory of storage card,
- \My Documents\My Ringtones\
- \Storage Card\My Documents
But they still don't appear what am i doing wrong?
I have 2 MP3 files that worked fine on my WM5
Thanks in advance.

Which WM6 ROM are you using?
But then, I am able to select custom MP3 ringtone for all builds of WM6

Version :
OS 5.2.318 (Build 15341.0.0.1)
Are they Mp3 format and what is the directory where you put them?

I just put some .WMA custom windows ringtones in the "\Application Data\Sounds" and they appear ! Is it that .mp3 are not recognized under WM6?
I converted my .MP3 to .WMA they now appear, but they sound TERRIBLE. How can I make the mp3 version recognized ?

Just put your ringtones to root of your storage card.

Have you tried sticking them in \windows\rings?

well I did put them in all those folders. But the mp3 versions don't appear.
The .wma do appear though.
For some unknown reason the phone doesn't see the mp3 versions.

Who's ROM are you using? Phil or Andot ?

I'm not sure I used the one from that tutorial:
http://karhoe.byethost33.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21
In the About I have Version:
OS 5.2.318 (Build 15341.0.0.1)
Radio Version 4.1.13.28_06.61.01
RIL Version 2.002
Rom update versions 5.2.318.15341
I don't know if it's Phil's or Andot's.
Can you figure out which version I have from the info I gave you? And what is the best version?
Lol I just realized the tutorial I used is the same one as your signature . I guess you have the answer then.
Your guide is really good, I did the upgrade yesterday, and it took me 50 minutes to get everything set up on my Qtek 8310.
Very good job.
I'm still dealing with this mp3 file ringtone issues though .

Probably Andot's. I have the same problem and I'm using Andot's. Thanks for the fix.
I'll dig around in the registry and search for "\Application Data\Sounds" and see if it got mucked up some how...

Yeah my work-around with the .WMA convertion works.
I was able to get a decent sound with a .WMA version of my .MP3 version so I'll survive .
But still I like when things are perfect and are like they used to be, and even better.
So far this WM6 as make everything faster, easier, better, software more stable and some didn't work before or made the phone crash like PMrecorder, now it works perfectly.
I feel like having a new phone even if it's like 2 years old hehe.

Ok very weird I put an other MP3 which is 217K, it's smaller than the other mp3s I tried (496kb and 398kb) And this one appear!!!
It could be size related. We could do some checkup is the registry and test in that area.

Strange. I'm test right now - tried mp3 file 863 KB and its OK. May be bit rate?
I'm use 128 kbps.

The two that don't appear have those settings :
-----------------------------
Size: 406802 bytes
Length: 25 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
128kbit, 975 frames
44100Hz Joint Stereo
-----------------------------
Size: 507112 bytes
Length: 32 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
128kbit, 1216 frames
44100Hz Joint Stereo
-----------------------------
The one that appear has this setting :
-----------------------------
Size: 223184 bytes
Length: 56 seconds
MPEG 2.0 layer 3
32kbit, 2146 frames
22050Hz Mono
-----------------------------
So the diffrence between the files are
- MPEG 2.0 layer 3 / MPEG 1.0 layer 3
- 32kbit / 128kbit
- 44100Hz / 22050Hz
- Mono / stereo
The problem is related to one of those parameters.
If i understand your last post you said that your 128kbit version appeared so we can remove that parameter. Is your 128kbit file that appear encoded in
- MPEG 2.0 layer 3 or MPEG 1.0 layer 3 (the info appear in winamp file info)
- Is it mono or stereo?
- What is the Hz on that file that appear?
We will get to the bottom of this !

OK. First file:
Payload Size: 879804 bytes
Header found at: 4096 bytes
Length: 55 seconds
MPEG-1 layer 3
128kbit, approx. 263 frames
44100Hz Mono
CRC: No, Copyrighted: No
Original: Yes, Emphasis: None
Second:
Payload Size: 883672 bytes
Header found at: 417 bytes
Encoder Delay: 576, Zero Padding: 1728
Length: 52 seconds
MPEG-1 layer 3
136kbit (VBR), 1994 frames
44100Hz Joint Stereo
CRC: No, Copyrighted: No
Original: Yes, Emphasis: None
Third:
Payload Size: 2975869 bytes
Header found at: 0 bytes
Length: 186 seconds
MPEG-1 layer 3
128kbit, approx. 889 frames
44100Hz Joint Stereo
CRC: Yes, Copyrighted: Yes
Original: Yes, Emphasis: None
And two small files:
Payload Size: 484075 bytes
Header found at: 4258 bytes
Length: 30 seconds
MPEG-1 layer 3
128kbit, approx. 144 frames
44100Hz Mono
CRC: Yes, Copyrighted: No
Original: No, Emphasis: None
Payload Size: 323848 bytes
Header found at: 0 bytes
Length: 20 seconds
MPEG-1 layer 3
128kbit, approx. 96 frames
44100Hz Mono
CRC: Yes, Copyrighted: No
Original: No, Emphasis: None
All this files works fine! I can assign all of them like ring tone.
I'm using Andot last (V6) ROM.

Well like Exitao said i'm probably using Andot's as well i used the ROM from karhoe's tutorial :
http://karhoe.byethost33.com/index.php?option=com_weblinks&task=view&catid=20&id=29
I tried some high quality mp3s files as well and they appeared
Size: 5405593 bytes
Header found at: 0 bytes
Length: 225 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
192kbit, 8635 frames
44100Hz Stereo
CRCs: No
Copyrighted: No
Original: Yes
Emphasis: None
So the only files that didn't appear have those settings:
----------------------------------
Size: 507112 bytes
Header found at: 0 bytes
Length: 32 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
128kbit, 1216 frames
44100Hz Joint Stereo
CRCs: No
Copyrighted: No
Original: Yes
Emphasis: None
----------------------------------
Size: 406802 bytes
Header found at: 0 bytes
Length: 25 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
128kbit, 975 frames
44100Hz Joint Stereo
CRCs: No
Copyrighted: No
Original: Yes
Emphasis: None
------------------------------------
I just did a test on the second one (25 sec) that wasn't working. I re-encoded it with those settings:
Size: 509516 bytes
Header found at: 0 bytes
Length: 25 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
160kbit, 976 frames
44100Hz Joint Stereo
CRCs: No
Copyrighted: No
Original: Yes
Emphasis: None
And now it works it appear!
And if we check all the settings it makes absolutely no sense . Ho well one of those mystery bug .
I guess if it happens to someone else we can only advice him to re-encode his file and that will fix it.
Thank you for your help.

OK. Good to see what all working!

Got to let Phil now, hopefully he can fix this up

Why Phil? I thought i had Andot's ROM from your tutorial?

Andot is not really developing Tornado nowadays, but his wife's Typhoon

Ring Tone too big!!

Hi there
I have got an mpeg on my XDAIIs which is 4MB in size, however my XDA wont let me set that file type as my ringtone.
To get round this I downloaded a converter and converted the format to WAV, I can now select it as my ringtone, however it has increased in size to 35MB!!!!
This is taking up my memory and causing my XDA to run slow, I only have 3MB spare left to run programs
Can I enable my XDA to set Mpegs as my ringtone, or can I direct my XDA to allow ringtones from another location than windows/phone, i.e on my storage card?
Kind Regards
Tim
No offence intended, but how long exactly is this "Ringtone" you're trying to play?
A WAV file of 35Mb? Assuming that's CD quality that's 44.1KHz, 16 bit sound and stereo so that's 172Kb/second and so a 35Mb file so that means it's about 208 seconds long? (over 3 minutes). (And that's assuming it's not compressed at all!)
Forgive me as I have no idea how your device is set up, but most peoples voice mail activates before 20 seconds (and you loose a few seconds while it finds the phone/activates the ring as well) so in my personal opinion I think your solution is to edit the WAV file for the 25 seconds (max) that you actually want to hear.
Also you could lower the quality too. The XDA IIs only has one speaker so only needs mono (instantly halving the filesize) and 8bit instead of 16bit would halve it again and I don't think you'd notice any difference over the IIs's speaker (would have to experiment). Finally I think you would likely be able to get away with 22KHz as well (maybe even 11KHz!) for the quality thus more savings with minimal quality loss and smaller file size.
25 second WAV file at 22KHz = 22Kb/second (bit of a saving on 172Kb/second!) and 25 seconds of it would only make the total file 473Kb. At 11KHz/s that'd be only 236Kb. Ideally you could use a WAV codec like ADPCM and get the filesize down even more, but I have no idea if the IIs supports that, never tried it.
The final option is to MP3 it (I think this is probably what you meant by MPEG, but MPEG and MPEG-3 (MP3) are two completely different formats). You need a newer ROM for MP3 support and I *think* it's slightly slower to play an MP3 ring tone instead of a WAV, but just giving you as many options as I can think of. But if you MP3'd a 25 second WAV file... it'd slaughter the file size
Hope that's some help and that my maths are right! I'm sure someone will chime in if they're not!
Not much help here.. but I would suggest you to have your mp3 converted to wav and trimmed to less than 30 seconds will do. I mean, there isn't a real need for a long ring tones if you are doing to pick up your phone anyway.

Can someone test this camera software on WM5 devices

Hi, here is a new version of a camera program, which runs under WM5: http://zone1.de/smartphone/index.html#experimental (right down at the bottom). Version 0.04 allows the selection of a video format and streams the video from the buil-in camera to the PC. The smallest video size is recommended, because the video is not compressed. On PC side, the video format can be controlled via registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Virtual Gadgets\VgCam\VideoFormat, with the following values:
FourCC (BINARY 4 Bytes)
Width (DWORD)
Height (DWORD)
BitsPerPixel (DWORD)
PixelCorrection (DWORD)
SwapUV (DWORD)
If the registry key does not exist, this default is used: I420, 176, 144, 12, 1, 1 (works excellent with a connected HTC S310)
I am interested in the video formats that other devices support. The device must be connected over ActiveSync. Configure the firewall appropriate. When you have tested, please post the result, the name of the device, and the listed video formats. The experimental version is free. Later you will get a discount on the full version (when it is finish... ;-)
I just read the other thread about video formats - its a long-running issue! - If the device shows YV12 then use I420 or IYUV on PC side.
Thanks and greetings
This is sweet. I can't figure out how to get it to work with any of the messengers though.
Thank you for the request. For the messengers you need the DLL. Here is a step-by-step instruction:
Put the "VgCam 0.04.dll" into the same folder on your PC where VgCamSetup.exe is.
Run VgCamSetup.exe. It sets the video format and also registers the DLL.
In the webcam setup of your messenger select "VG Camera" as camera source (but it works not with all messengers, and not all video formats are possible, as pointed out on the website, see post #1)
If you got it working (even if only with VgCamView.exe) it would be great if you could inform me of the name of your device and the video formats, which are listed on it, because I have not enough test devices. Here are the possible video formats of two devices, on which the application was tested:
HTC S310 (USB with 10 MBit/s)
YV12 176 x 144 @ 20 fps
YV12 320 x 240 @ 6 fps
YV12 352 x 288 @ 5 fps
XDA Neo (HTC Prophet)
YV12 144 x 176
YV12 240 x 320
YV12 288 x 352
Thanks and regards
wow
Its also possible to run this as an WLAN device in your network and connect it wireless so you can move around while (f.e.) VLC is recording it... very (!) nice.
love it.

Rogers Infuse records video at 15 fps!

Hey guys i'm posting this thread to reply to a thread in the dev's section.
Since i'm a new member with under 10 posts i cannot reply to the thread in that section. Here's the thread url:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1237907
Misterjunky wanted to know if the Rogers i997 phones with Gingerbread 2.3.3 were having the same low fps recording issues as others that have complained about it.
I am here to confirm that yes, i bought the phone last week and it does in fact record video only at 15 fps, even at 1080p.
This is very frustrating!
Thank you for letting us know!
I hope we can get ot fixed
Yep, I notice the same problem. After i rooted my phone and install infused 2.1.0 and did a highest resolution recording today, notice that it is it has latency slow fps. Absolutely horrible.
Hi all,
Another Rogers User here with the same low fps issue when recording movies. I also am replying here since I can't post in the developer forum.
Had the infuse for about a month, but just recorded my first video on it yesterday and noticed the clearly low fps.
Stock infuse, no roms.
Good to know that it isn't a regression we introduced.
The media capabilities of the Rogers firmware are clearly crippled - no MHL, low FPS for video.
Same here, Rogers stock 2.3.3 ... getting half frames

I Just wanted to stop by here to thank everyone here for reporting
this video recording bug in the stock Rogers Infuse Gingerbread rom.
Now we all know that this bug has nothing to do with the the customization or
improvements of the stock Rogers Gingerbread roms which the DEVS have
been working on but instead this video recording bug was in the stock
Gingerbread rom to start with.
If you guys want to check out all the technical details of your homemade

I couldn't get the method to work, whenever I try to copy the 4 files into that directory (via Root Explorer) I get a error window saying it cant be done because that directory is system read only. Any thoughts?
My Infuse is from Rogers, and yes I have root from this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197248
Edit: OK the problem is fixed. While in the folder with the original files I pressed the "mount R/W" button at the top of Root Explorer and tried to paste the four modded files but got that "read only" error. For some reason doing it to the system folder first, then going to the lib folder and doing it there made it work. The video recording is simply epic!

A: Bluetooth should be backwards compatible , some OEMs don't also follow some guidelines , surely can be improved.
Post your BT model, Car model and year to help us out determining compatibility issues
Woot! Glad to see this up and running Thanks for all the support!
Full CM13 Android in Mediatek phone. Thank you
edit: fixedd
Hi, first of all I would like to say thank u for all your hardwork
I have came across on the specifications page for Mediatek's MT6753 well which was our chipset anyway.
http://www.mediatek.com/en/products/mobile-communications/smartphone1/mt6753/
The CPU clock speed stated on the page was 1.5ghz. Ours was max clocked at 1.3ghz?
Is there any possibility, (not sure if our mtk kernel source is open) that we could get a speedboost, a step up of 200mhz for our cpu?
Or was the 1.5ghz version is already stable and has a chance to boost it up to MT6572's 1.7ghz as well.
I would be glad if anyone can enlighten me about this. Thank you.
Thankyou!!!!

Sorry guys but what is this?
http://www.needrom.com/download/s3-cm13-0/
It's baptized CM13. 0 from JiaYu.de for S3plus.
Is it other Rom, or someone tries to play it "smart" to the community?
TapaTalk and JiaYu S3 with Android MM!
Having used this for a few days now I love it however I have discovered one bug and one suggestion for better quality of life.
Bug: The aeroplane mode in the power menu (press and hold power button) doesn't work. The tile in the drop down menu still works fine, just the power menu one doesn't.
Quality of Life: Currently there is no way of disabling both sims, one always has to be enabled. Not a big deal for most people, but as someone who travels between countries quite frequently, it would be nice to be able to switch one sim off before putting on the other to avoid any possible roaming charges.
Thanks again for all the support, I was also wondering what version of Xposed would work with CM13?
Regards,
Hey, sorry, I missed your pm.
I need to check airplane mode.... Didn't notice yet.
The other thing isn't meant to be done this way in aosp. I may take a look at it as well, but I can't promise...
