Which ROM For me? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I'm currently running nbd 9.0, and it's a bit flaky. I get 2-3 hangs a day. And, it's difficult to answer calls. Seems like things get really slow when a call comes in, and it just won't answer right.
So -- What to do? A friend recommended See No Evil. What I'm looking for is a STABLE rom, preferably with the following included: HTC Today thingie. PocketCM / PCM Keyboard.
That's about it -- the rest I install myself.
So -- which rom would be the best for me? And, should I upgrade the radio? (I'm Cingular/Att). Versions in .sig
Thanks in advance!

Try mfrazz's build or you can also try my build as well as NotTooSmart's Build. We use the same base rom to cook and OS 318 has alot less issues as far as i know for staibility. TNT is releasing new OS soon :d

IPL/SPL: 3.08
GSM: 2.69.11
OCTAIVOI's Wizard 4.2 8M
No problem for 4 days. I tried a lot. This one is the best for me.

Just thought I'd note that The HTC Today plugin and the PocketCM and CMKeyboard can all be installed separately. You don't need them in the ROM.

This has been super stable for me over a week use

I would suggest rebuild your own ROM. I use whiterat ROM as that is the one that is most stable in my phone, or jaguar was good in my phone too. Rip it with core kitchen, and add the packages u like, and enjoy...

try NBD 8.3.....BEST ROM EVER IMHO.

What I've tried so far
NBD 9.0 - Very flaky -- many hangs, but beautiful
NBD 9.1 - Much better than 9.0, but, still some hangs. Java did not work with gmail applet (after installing, it would immediately exit whenever you try to run java)
NBD 8.3 - Java hanging issue.
SeeNoEvil - Does not have streaming media, has old HTC-X, no HTC Today thingie, but I love CoolCamera.
Mobile 6 2a - Seems stable, but no HTC Today thingie, or other fun aps.
OCTAIVOI's -- Things mostly work -- same java issue as NBD 9.1. Gmail does something weird to the java machine. -- since that's the only thing I use java for, it's a big deal.
WRCX3 -
And, I've discovered that these are the killer apps that I love:
1-Calc - I typically install rdcalc, but never use it to it's full potential -- 1-Calc is pretty sweet
HTC Today Thingie - I love this launcher -- lets me use my finger. I also like the Contacts & weather
HTC X
Streaming Media
I'm going to keep editing this post as I test things
But, now that I've gotten a taste, I want pieces of everything . . .
I think it may be time to cook a rom!

Where can I look to get started with a ROM kitchen? Last time I did it, it was with my original XDA, and Lumpi Stefan's kitchen -- which was all web based.
Can someone point me to a tutorial on how to get started with a WM6 kitchen?

Java Wierdness
Seems like something has permanantly damaged java -- I go back to the T-Mobile 2.26, then up to any package, and java doesn't work.

I personally use NBD 7.2 Vanilla -> fast, clean and no problems whatsoever!
same here, i want one that is fast, clean, and just put the programs you need, currently happy with NBD 7.2
I just installed the "XDA Mobile 6 (XM6)" rom yesterday and am very happy with it. Theres a good selection of extra apps that hardly take up any memory. I havent tried any other roms but this one is very fast , faster than the qtec wm5 rom i had on it before.

Pretty much the same thing here. XM6 is what I'm using and am quite happy with it while I'm doing my research learning how to cook my own.
I'm sitting on Core 2.0n as I am currently out of my home country and have the phone permanently switched off. I am weighing my options for when I return, because I want to reflash to a ROM with Office 2007 (to match the upgrade I just did on my computer). I'm a fan of the Vanilla style ROMs so I can just add the programs I like, so I will probably go with NBD. I'm just sad that my Pocket Sudoku high scores will be reset!
7.3...
Just the right amount of apps , and fast even with HTC home and audio. Bluetooth is greatly improved (not just stereo)
Currently using Pandora V3/V3.1, so far so good
Ti2...believe it or not, Ti2 with all the HTC Touch programs integrated works best with my phone. Fast, no missed calls, and so far no problems...
I'm currently running Pandora 3.2 with Voice Command built in (Yeah, I'm not running my own rom right now... I'm playing the field... ). Very nice rom, as its quick and has newer Arcsoft SMS/MMS... So far its been very stable with no quirks that I've seen, and excellent battery life.
The next release of XM6 will be based on (or very similar to) this rom with some customizations I do...
I am running Ti2.2 right now... but I did play the field as well and tried out TNT and XM6, they just contained too many apps that I wouldn't use, therefore went on building the newer version of my ROM.
NBD 7.2 Base, on a Personal ROM ...
tnt-2.0 makes my g3 on tmo run very quickly and smoothly. after installing all fixes and running the htc_streaming_media cab, orb works perfectly at 160kb (able to run on tmo edge). which is infinitely better than m.youtube since i have access to basically everything on youtube without it telling me that youtube's working on it. if i am able to use wifi, why wouldn't i want to use orb over m.youtube? i guess i do sometimes forget to turn orb on before i leave the house...
i'm thinking of switching to sprint for the "mogul". unless i get an iphone...god that would suck. what are you going to do? i like the speed of sprint but the iphone is sexy. both would be two year commitments, though one would be considerably dearer.
also, i don't know if tnt-2.0 just changed the refresh rate of the button holds but i can scan through menus with the 4-way toggle switch SOOOO fast compared to all of the other roms. try opening up your start menu and just press and hold toggle up or down and the selection thing just flies!

i found it via google and then modaco. what's funny is that the person who posted it said it was found on this site. i didn't spend a lot of time looking for it on this site, just went to google. works great though. i do use pie for orb and it opens wmplayer and it's great. like carrying around a 600gb video ipod with a lot of the videos the internet has to offer.
when i visit people in va, i roam on suncom/att edge and it works great there too. wifi is perfect.

To answer the question...I've tried:
NDB 7.3
Crossbow Reloaded 1.7 (XMA?)
Titanium
and Core2n
I found Crossbow Reloaded to be the best for me. It comes with good apps, looks great, and seems to be without bugs. With the help of people on here, the few problems I did encounter were solved (mostly configuration problems caused by my noobish status) and the remaining problem I think I can live with (excessive battery drain...now I have to charge every day instead of every 2 days)
The other roms had their good and bad points, but in the end they just didn't fit my needs. Doesn't mean they are "bad" - they are just not for me...currently.
i looked at that link again and it says it's for smartphones, but it works for m.youtube on my wizard (among other sites).
I'm using crossbow reloaded 1.7.1. Reason: it's very stable, everything working, bluetooth and wifi work great.

Can i install this on my unbranded Kaiser ?
Well, i know i CAN, but should i ?
I noticed the OS is newer than helmi's kaiser 0.7.0, so i would like this one, if there are no problems...
thanks mc. this is another solid room.
i got a bug. while in messaging (email or text) i cannot see the pictures of the people who send the message. i can see just a little bit of it, but most of it is showing off the screen. almost as if i was using an app made for vga on a non vga device. anyone else notice this?
edit:
okay so when this happens....slide the keyboard out...then close it...and the message returns to its normal format with the pic fully viewable. any thoughts?
whoa....i just pushed the mail button on the front the phone reset itself...hmmmm

Helmi,
Any chance of you making a Dynamic + BigStorage ROM out of this?
I could install all the AT&T cabs I need, but then I also don't want PTT or HTC Task Manager... Plus, from your HTC ROMs with the same build and kernel, the Dynamic ones seem to be the most stable and quickest to me.
Thanks in advance and for what you've done up to now anyway. Really apreciate the work you put into this. Donation will soon follow (and that's not a bribe).

didn't experience this, tried to re-create by:
-hitting the mail soft key after boot from initial flash
-power-down/power-up then press mail key once today screen loads
-hard reset
-after today screen loads from reboot hit mail key
-power down/power up and then hit mail key
everytime the messaging applet open......
maybe i'm doing something wrong.
rom runs great and possibly even fixed a past issue....
i have an at&t tilt that i purchased from an at&t coporate store on the day of the US release.
i hard-spl'd the day hard-spl was released to shed that god awfull thinguhmabob at&t had on this phone that was more like TnT on Tilt.
proceeded to flash the htc ship rom and somewhere inbetween a pixel died right above the "m" in smart mobility.
the pavarotti pixel was evident on every subsequent boot as well as opening any non-white variant background page/app.
since flashing this rom that that dead pixel is johnny alive.
i know this rom fixed the dead pixel because after flashing every kaiser rom/cooked-rom on xda the dead pixel remained, um, well dead.
the the at&t rom to me felt more like a caveman trying to use a stick, on a rock, to draw a buffalo with some headless stick people dancing around doing the caveman robot.
i have experienced no issues yet but as with most self-reports, this is subjective.
Edit (oct-19-2007 1:34p cst):
after some 12 hours of use, the phone (or screen input), has become unresponsive similar to the at&t rom. unresponsive meaning; i am on the today screen and click start-settings. the transition to the settings menu is quick but once i arrive to the settings menu the screen freezes (or rather any stylus inputs are delayed by 2-3 seconds if even received). to me it seems like the device is polling something like the sd card or ptt (only roms i've experienced this on have been with ptt) but my gut could be off as i'm late for lunch and my gut is hungry.
having said this, this rom, for me, is somewhat un-usable. i have hard re-setted 3x now in attempt to correct said lag but lag wins. in between the 1st and 2nd hr's i loaded up pocket + 4.0, resco explorer 6.16, resco registry, resco ftp. did a hard reset once the device started to lag with said software installed. currently i have no apps installed and still experience extremem lag on just cooked-stock-default settings/apps. going back to htc ship.
-ds
I'm anxious to install this on my Tilt -
A couple of questions -
1) Which dialpad is it using? The same as on the original AT&T ROM, or the Eten dialer that has been packaged with the other Kaiser ROMs?
2) Any guess if TomTom 6.032 will work with this one (assuming I already had it working on my Tilt with a Kaiser ROM)?
3) Safe to assume that, since this a Tilt package, there's no need to install the keyboard remapping hack (or manually configure data connections)?
Also - I haven't seen any chatter about this in a (short) while - Do you notice any improvement on this ROM (or any other for that matter) with the tinny/distant sound of bluetooth headsets?
Thanks so much for your hard work on this!!!!!!!!!!
AMG
is this rom running significantly faster than the htc 070 rom? i mean is it worth it to jump ship again, and install everything again? or people just want this rom for the storage
i very highly doubt a signifgant change in speed because there is no signifigant change in the rom....it's probably a user opinion kind of thing....only way to prove is benchmark...but most likely nothing worth spending 1 hr of software setup blah blah

WM6.1 vs WM6. Why make a change ?

With all WM6.1 ROMs coming out these days, I was wondering what benefits do you guys get from using WM6.1 ?
There are WM6 ROMs based on official WM6 for Wizard. Do not think it is the case for WM6.1 - our Wizard is too old
What I mean is that current WM6 roms have lots of things in terms of improving user experience and they are reliable, stable and fast. What WM6.1 buys you ? Better speed ? More RAM ? Stability ? Features (which ones) ?
E.g. I moved from WM5 to WM6 mostly because of VoIP calling. Currently using Jaguar 4, liked XM6Lite too. With adding SPB Pocket Plus/Diary/Weather I have great UI (even with scrolling).
What would drive me (and YOU) towards WM6.1 ? Any ideas ? Besides the obvious ... to have latest and greatest
in my experience, wm6.1 has been loads faster, as well as having the "threaded" sms view and internet explorer zooming. not too much else new, but like you said "the latest and greatest" is definitely what it is. TNT's official is a nice super-clean rom that works incredibly well. if i were you, i'd back everything up, flash on over, and give it a try. if you dont like it, its real easy to switch back.
No idea where all those WM6.1 roms originated but from a few days experience I can tell you my Wizard is running as fast as it did back at the WM5 days. Maybe even faster... Until a few days ago I used TNT.1933, now it's TNT.19199, both with HTC Home plugin. Reasons why one should absolutely upgrade to WM6.1:
faster, more responsive
much less lag between pressing buttons and actual OS reaction, application load times are noticably shorter, shorter windows boot time
less battery drain
The battery used to drop below 60% within 24 hours. Now, also 24 hours later, it's still at 78%!
improved messaging
combined SMS/MMS folder, threaded view of conversations instead of seperate messages which leads to a shorter message list and easier browsing
latest and greatest
I can recommend WM6.1 to every Wizard owner, no matter if they use WM5 or WM6. WM5 was fast, WM6.0 was a trade-off between speed and features, WM6.1 is simply put best of both worlds.

Just to touch on this, is this different than shogunmark_wm6_threaded.cab (the one pulled from the Treo, I believe)? Better? Not as good? I installed shogunmark's right off the bat, I didn't even look at (or know there was) the built-in threading. Before I reflash 6.1, can anyone who has used both (or just the TNT one) post some screens? Or thoughts?
Well,
it's obvious that you've never tried my slim edition ROM...just do it!
I'm using the slim edition. Its just about the best thing I've ever tried on my device.
its just amazing, much much faster, amazing on battery and like no issues whatsoever. try the TNT rom, it is by far the best rom ive ever used

I really recommend it That coming from a WM5 cooker that didn't like WM6
I am using Nothin 's Paradox 5.2 Clean Version (WM6).
After loading 600 contacts, a lot of calendar items, PocketBreeze, PhoneAlarm, ILauncher, PocketInformant etc. I have 30,5 MB free RAM.
All the other ROMs PIE in some webpage ( xda-developers) I receive the message something like "Script may slows down your computer", and yes it slows down.
In Nothin' ROM if I push the "back" button PIE goes back , very fast and exactly where it was.
I downloaded 3 different WM6.1, Merlin Slim Edition was the best, but all the screen response, scrolling in PIE was slower then Nothin 's Paradox 5.2 .
In Merlin Merlin Slim Edition with NO loaded contacts etc. I had 31,6 MB free RAM ( in Nothin 's ROM it was about 35 MB).
So am back to Nothin 's Paradox 5.2 Clean Version.
Nothin, you should try your Nothin 's Paradox 5.2, if the WM6.1 is bad.
OK. It was a silly joke, I am waiting for Nothin 's Paradox 6.1
WM 6.1
I agree with the comments I addition TNT rom is superb really fast and loads of stability
Where can i get Nothin 's Paradox 5.2 rom? Cant find it. Is it g4 safe?
I found it. Its super fast rom. And it is g4 safe.
W6.1 is brilliant--- Runs so fast on my wizard no need to overclock !!.
Much better.
I have flashed many roms and I have to say WM6.1 is the best. I dont use ir so Im not bothered by that issue with the tnt rom. Im sure once he is back it will be taken care of anyway. The rom is so much faster than wm6 even without overclocking.
I have been using TNT for a while now but honestly I am loving this newest 6.1 version the most. I have to agree with everything that has been said. It is quick, its battery life seems to be longer than before and I LOVE the threaded sms. My MDA is coming up on a year old and I'm hoping I can get another year out of it... (Except for the buzzing I hear sometimes from how much I have dropped it.) Now the Overclocking comments I have to disagree with. I think it seemed a little laggy at first before I installed battery status and set up the omap. And this may just be my personal experience but it seems my edge is connected more often and that I have a better connection. I havent had the weather tab tell me that it wasnt able to connect once yet.
+1 for wm6.1
i was sick of how slow and unstable my xplore 2 wm6 rom was running after months of use, it was soooo lagged, flashed 6.1 T.N.T professional and now it runs freaking fast! finally, let's hope it doesn't get slower with the time.. for now it's a joy to use
Thats another thing too... After time random glitchy things would happen. For a while my vibration on the phone would just completely not work and I was thinking that my thing just stopped working 100%. I reinstalled and now its working fine again.
wm6.1 is much faster than wm6 but all of them (till now) have battery drain issue in my device (o2 minis), with ANY radio!
What about compatibility? WIll programs like S2U2, Resco Explorer etc work on 6.1? Have you guys tried them on 6.1?
Went back to WM6.0
To me there was no big difference.....some of the 6.0 rom's I think are alot better.....that's just me....

Nice Work! Thanks!
Didn't find any bugs so far! It's a bit too big for me, so I will perhaps switch back to OpenTouch with a new release...
Thanks for the great work!
it ilooks much better to use Opera Mobile instead of Opera mini,
HTC youTube is nice
but available memory is low!only 16.29 mb fresh booted.
Also Network time and time zone synchronization are not working.
Jbled Java is not function.
Many bugs need to be fixed.
Basically, it is useless ROM
got a problem: When Starting Opera mobile, touchflo is closing, sometimes it starts automatically new and closes Opera and sometimes Opera works and touchflo stays disabled!

I'm not trying to start anything with anybody, but saw this post and have seen it in my threads before.
I know how it feels to spend countless hours cooking and then getting one of theses.
Folks,
This is one of the main reason why I'm retiring after my current release.
Every cook spends a lot of their personal time creating a rom for users to enjoy.
There is no perfect rom, creating or wanting to create a perfect rom is like a pipe dream.
After seven releases I still have not been able to create the perfect rom.
Every rom has issues, but as long as the developer is working on fixing it, we the users should give them some time.
Let them know what's wrong with their rom and let them resolve the issues.
If for some strange reason they are not willing to fix it then making comments of this nature would make sense.
Main point,
Try the roms, post your review, but please try to use words other than worthless.
Thanks,

Agreed with tony. Cooking isn't an easy job and I know this. Just to master the porting and some basic skills, you need quite sometimes. Then every build has their own issues. We should appricate someone cooked a rom for us because it take alot of work and time (for free). As long as he the cook providing support, it's should be ok. Otherwise, don't use the rom.

Hi ttran001
Thanks
That was actualy what I tought when reading the post "why botter cooking"
I bought my herald only so I could use it for cooking.. this is my hobby and I cook for 5 other devices too and the main purpose of this rom is to show that all of the apps from Opal can work on other devices.
I don't want to retire from cooking but it might happen if there is no need for my roms.
but I wan't let this coment stop me because I know there are problems and always will be bugs.
even M$ and HTC are to blame for some of the bugs (sometimes all the bugs)

also i notice i didnt installed anything and then 2mb were gone from the storage maybe a memory leak(not sure) but otherwise the rom is great, jus a little bit more storage would have been good but you said if you want storage try another rom. great!!!! great also love the opera browser.keep it up my dude.

I think gullum might have only included the rom without new splash screen.

he didnt include a splash screen so you keep your previous one
I've been using ttran's OTP7 series roms, so that explains the splash screen.
BTW - I'm loving some aspects of this ROM. The HTC YouTube is so much nicer than the YouTubePlayer that I had installed before. And the Opera browser - although a bit much for the Herald to handle - is pretty sweet too. HTC YouTube even plays pretty well over T-Mo's Edge network.
Question - do you need to have the Opera browser installed to get HTC YouTube to work? Or would it work with OperaMini as the browser? Just curious.
I gotta say, sometimes the phone gets real slow and laggy and I have to soft reset. Also I get a Windows Media unknown error 0x8000FFFF when I try to play a video taken with the phone camera (while in the viewer).

Most stable rom

Hey guys
Ok so im up for upgrading my p4350's rom but id like to use the phone on a day to day basis. Can anyone please tell me what the most stable rom currently is. Another thing, i dont want useless apps ill rarely use.
Been looking at roms by gullum and aserg and they look good but i want to know from people who have tested alot of roms in the past. As this is my first (and hopefully) only time i will be flashing i want to make sure i get it right
Thnx
RuDz
Flashing by SD Card or are you plan on using the RomUpdateUtility?
Also, please make sure you are HardSPL'd..
I tried many roms, but none of them can shut them down.
Who can tell me how to shut it down. not sleep
An one thing is how to turn vibration of when I touch OK or win button on the screen.

Hi thanx for the swift reply
Im planning on flashing via the USB cable. I am going to hardSPL as soon as i now for sure there is a stable rom out there that i can use.
Ive downloaded thanhy25's Clear Rom Win 6.5.1 Build 23071 - V2 and im thinking of installing soon. Good idea? bad idea?
another problem is that my ipl is only 1.02.xxx but as far as i know i can upgrade it to 4.xxx yang or something the like.
Any suggestions?
I'm looking for the exact same thing. The lack of space has been driving me crazy, I'm constantly at around 1MB and the only thing that's installed are some Spb applications. I'm looking for something very stable because I don't want to flash it all the time (I hope I'll have to do it just this once - I want to minimize the risk of destroying it, I don't have the money for a new one ). It currently has Windows 6.0, SE CE 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3) and I can't remember the last time I had to soft reset it or had any trouble with it, besides the low memory. I'd like to find a stable ROM with enough free memory, but not completely without programs.
The things I mostly use are phone and messages of course, email, office, alarms and timers, camera, IE, WiFi and Bluetooth, weather forecast, ActiveSync, WM5torage, pdf reader, Total commander, Google maps, MSN Messenger... I'd also like to find something like Spb stuff to make it more practical to use, and to be able to play audio and video files, some other browser besides IE would be nice, gmail client, IM client that would work with both MSN and gTalk (I used Talkonaut at one time), to install games without problems (to have .NET framework, Java, Flash and such)... Some nice skin would be nice, but all in all I'd rather have stability than good looks. Is there a ROM that would be similar to this? What version of Windows would you recommend, 6.1, 6.5?
How complicated would it be for me to cook my own ROM? Is it worth learning the process just to make this one custom ROM? Also, is there an emulator which I can use to try out different ROMs before flashing them to my device?
Sorry for the huge post

Try JustStablev2b5micro. It gives you almoust 30MB free Ram. I use it with SPBMS 3.5.3 and I have around 22-24 MB free memory. But you must be HSPL I think.
HardSPL isnt an issue. I prefer it inface because i wannt to permanently flash the phone with a new rom.
Uhm what is SPBMS 3.5.3?? Sorry im a noob when it comes to this
Any idea where i could find this JustStablev2b5micro
Thanx alot
So far my fav is the TribU2U Version 3 w/Titanium [Build 28232] - Although I turn off the titanium interface and run the basic homescreen with my fav apps.
Having the new WM 6.5 interface is much better then old 6.0 look and feel.
I think that with any ROM you have (custom or official) you need to softreset about once every couple weeks... just to keep it running smooth.

Hey, izzy, try my newest ROMs out. I think you'll like them. And don't worry, if you don't like them I have that other ROM on file still.
Link to this rom?? =D
I'll give it shot tomorrow morning.

I can suggest this rom. Aserg is my favorite as cookes stable and efficient roms. I have tried many of roms listed in this thread. I suggest to read all replies in order to review user experiences.
