I keep seeing pocket CM included in all these roms. The roms do rock but I've come to hate pocket cm due to the lag and lack of detail in it. Anyone know a reg change I can make to disable it and possibly pocket keyboard? I've searched for an answer and have had no luck. Thanks so much!
SD
Install it and it should remove the old one and then uninstall it. That is what I do when Battery status is in a cooked rom I install.
Never tried that before, thanks for the quick response I'll try that now. I just figured it'd be a quick switch in the registry or something.
PocketCM takes a little bit of time to grow on you, but for me I find it faster and so much easier to use than the default Contact Manager. But I didn't take the default one out of XM6r3 as I knew some would want that back (not sure what rom you are using).
To change back do the following (this is right from the www.pocketcm.com website):
Code:
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SCONTACTS
Change "String 1" value from "\Program Files\ContactManager\ContactManager.exe" to :MSPOUTLOOK contacts.
Or you could always spend a little time with a ROM Kitchen and exclude it...
You can use softkey applet to restore to default one :d

Actually this won't work. PocketCM by default becomes the default Contact Manager, thus the reason needed to do the registry change.

Ok... I've been playing with this for a week or so to no avail.
I wanted to Disable & delete the standard KB from the device & replace it with my copy of FingerTouch or VGAKey & after failing it's now become a ROM cooking issue.
I started out trying just to delete the default KB from the registry. I've found the association {42429667-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9} for the module msim.dll. But whenever I delete this, like I do with Block Recognizer, or if I install one of my other KB & try to change this entry to be associated with FT or VGA KB, my device freezes at the Animated Boot screen & requires a hard reset.
Being unable to disable or delete the key without devastating results, I decided to try & cook out the default KB & replace it with one of my alternatives. So far everytime I still get stuck at the boot screen.
I know (I think I do) all of the default KB files & associations. In windows you have msim.dll (icon & improc I believe) & msim.96.dll.
In the registry I've found HKCR\CLSID\{42429667-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}, which handles the display & selection in the KB input selection pop-up. I've also found the HKCU\Control Panel\Sip\Default Im reference to {42429667-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}.
Everytime I attempt to change these value to another KB or delete them in the registry of any ROM installed I get a fatal error that won't allow for the OS to fully boot.
When I try to alter this info in a rom I'm cooking, I also get this fatal error for which the only way to recover from is a hard reset & flash to a ROM that has the default KB still intact.
Does anybody know what I'm missing???? I don't see anything in startup that is calling for the Default KB, so I can't seem to understand what's causing the freeze up.. Any of you pro's out there know what I'm missing or why I can't get the OS to boot without the default KB?
Can you delete or replace the default KB completely in any device ROM from the registry? Can you remove the default KB from a cooked ROM? If so what am I missing? After a week of trying I need help!!!
Thanks for the help.
NOBODY??? Not one of you have ever tried replacing the horrible MSIM KB with something more useful????
I never really tried to uninstall the default one. I've only replaced it with a colorized one. I know you can install another one and have it set as default SIP, but I haven't tried since I haven't really liked any SIP that's been perfected enough to cook in...
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Some thing here I never have found something better to cook in. I use the grey colored KB since it looks the best with the HTC .tsk but thats just a matter of cooking in the right .msm file. Sorry I cant be more of a help.
I don't know if any of you have ever noticed this, but even if you use another KB & assign it as default, the standard default KB still retains the Default IM status. The only way a change to KB default status can be made is to inject a start up entry that redirects.
If you set another KB as default, all the tools, sk, etc... Still all show the STD KB as also being default & so it cannot even be disabled. Weird.

Hmm, I cooked few versions of WM6.0 and never had a problem. Sipchange always worked for me. Maybe I'm lucky
Didn't try with WM 6.1.
SIP change changes what pops up as the default, but does NOTHING to change the actual system setting as msim as default. It allows for overide, I know, I use it, but you still can't remove or disable the msim KB. The point is to cook in something useful & remove unnecesary images & resources, not to add a tool to do something that several other proggies I already use can do. i.e. SK Tools also allows you to default other KB's.

I know what you mean, it would be better option of course, but for now I didn't find solution.
I have a VZW Touch Pro. I have tried Pocket Toolman 2, Advanced Configuration Tool v3.3, Diamond Tweak, and maybe one more to make configuration changes. However, each one of these causes a problem for me.
When I pull out the keyboard and then try to fill in a form field in PIE, the cursor moves when I type, but I cannot see the letters in the field. Also, if I have the keyboard open and I go to favorites (particularly Edit Favorites), instead of seeing my favorites, I see chinese looking characters instead of the name of the favorite.
I have tried hard resets and just installing net 3.5, then one of the above programs. Even if I leave the input and IE settings in these apps alone, it causes this to happen.
I would like to use the tweaks in at least one of these programs. However, I need to know if there is something that I can chose not to set in one of these programs, or a registry key that I can edit after configuring one of these programs, to get the functionality back.
Any help is appreciated, as I am at a loss at this point.
You have enabled cleartype in landscape mode. Disable it again
Thank you for your help.
I know the background of the start menu can be changed by:
1) changing the phones wallpaper like normal
OR
2) replacing the startmenu_background_screen_"resolution".png from within the windows folder.
The second is only if you want a different wallpaper in your start menu to the rest of your phone. (the default file is just a transparent .png which shows your normal wallpaper underneath)
I know you can also change the folder icons, by changing around other png files in the window folder.
My question is how can you change the font style or more importantly the colour?
Also, is it possible to change it so it resembles the wm6.1 start menu instead of the honeycomb?
(please dont say "just use a 6.1 ROM" because i dont want to. lol. I like wm6.5 as its quicker and more finger friendly, i just want the old start menu back)
no one know how to do these things?
anyone?
PLEASE?
im desperate here
lolz
As much or as little as you wish.
Have a look at some of the stuff I posted in here :-

Should answer a few of the basics.
Thanks for your reply, but those replies are about the today screen. I dont even use titanium any more. I find M2D more useful.
What i want to know is how to edit the Start menu.
the list of programs shown as hexagon icons
I want to change it to like how it was on wm6.1.
Just a grid of icons with words on a white background
OK, I have got what you are after... sounds like a registry hack somewhere....
Unfortunately the holiday(UK)/vacation(US), season is upon us, and I may not have found the solution for a week or two. If and when I do, I'll post it here and send you a PM.
Thank you.
Its appreciated

I second this question. And what I want is better not the 'grid view'.
Better we have a registry tweak way, so that we can make a HoneyComb Toggle.
In some cases when I want more RAM, it's better to shutdown the honeycomb and the titanium today plugin.
So another question is do we have a tool to toggle the titanium? Like we can do to M2D? I know we can do it through today settings, but I'm looking for a way like regitweak or mortscript, so that I can use a shortcut to map it to a hardware button, do it within one touch.
[Edit: Got some sence for the half of first question from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509160&highlight=start+menu
Seems the WM6.5 honeycomb start menu is an executable called shell32.exe. If so we can shut it down with a powerful task manager like DotFred's TaskMgr.exe or let it show up in the htc task manager by registry tweak and kill it. Will report it back after I test it next week. Or anybody can test it right now?
But the first question still need an answer.
Edit3: So what is the process or service of the WM6.1 start menu ? (for that I think it's not an exe) This may help to answer the question of how to resemble old start menu back.
And then what is titanium? An exe, a process or a service? Got a name?]
Thanks for any help.
there isnt!
there isnt a way to back to 6.1 start menu...
but you can use the Qucik menu that is a lil same... but you need to leave blank the cpr file for grid scene on your windows folder... then use the Quick menu that Utaker post on devs and hack forum just search with this exact words " Quickmenu instead honeycomb" you may get all the answer you need there... Oh and the honey comb can be modded in maaaany ways just search all over the devs a nd hack sections
thanks bye.
Hey guys.
I am running a pre-release official VZW 6.5 ROM on my Ozone.
I have tried the SMSNoSentMsg reg hack to kill the "Message Sent" notification, but it isn't working.
Am I missing something in 6.5?
Thanks !!!
The Ozone has a package called SMS Retry which messes up all the SMS popups, etc. Also, HTCMessage does the same. Why they added that?? There is a way to disable it, I just have to remember where it is. The 6.5 TEST ROM is very similar to 6.1. Not sure why Verizon didn't at least add Titanium... Oh well.
EDIT: You can try to create a dummy HTCMessage.exe file and overwrite the one in \Windows with it. That may work.
What does HTCMessage.exe do and how could I create a "dummy" replacement?

Well, you can try to create a txt file called HTCMessage.txt, then rename it to HTCMessage.exe. It will basically be blank. Then copy it to \Windows. When the OS tries to execute it, it won't be able to. The package you want to omit when cooking is PACKAGE_Chief_W_WM65_HTCMessage and 0409 and 0C0A.
This ROM I have is very buggy.
Registry changes don't stick.
What would cause that?
I edit the registry.
Reboot, and the changes are gone

Did you App unlock the phone? Go to my WM6.5 Ozone ROM post and download the SDA Application Unlock ZIP file. Unzip and run SDA Application Unlock from your PC, hit ok.
That should app unlock and reg unlock the phone. Unless Verizon did something else to lock it, like FOTA or something. That would suck.
No dice.
Just tried it and still changes don't stick.
EDIT:
Some changes stick and work; some stick, but don't work; some don't stick.
Changes and works:
Start Menu Order
Changes and doesn't work:
SMSNoSentMsg
Change Reverts:
Icons in HTCVOICEMAIL panel
.... this is very strange....
i have a question for the o.p.
where'd u get the "pre-release" version of 6.5 and can u share the link or download for it??
I work for VZW. I am not willing to post or share it as doing so might jeapordize the forementioned employment.
Well for those interested.. I figured some things out.
SMS Sent Notifiation:
I had done the reg hack manually and also set it in SmartTweaker.
They were conflicting with each other. Removed option in SmartTweaker and the notification is gone.
Icons in HTCVoiceMail sliding panel:
In this ROM version the icons in the panel are the greyscale ones. I wanted the color ones. I tried changing the icon paths in the registry, but after a reboot they wold revert to greyscale.
I went into the registry at \HKLM\Software\HTC\Home\SlidingPanels\ and made a new key called HTCVMAIL and copied every entry from HTCVOICEMAIL only chnanging the icon paths.
I also had to change the datasource key in \HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome\HTCVOICEMAIL to point to the new key I created.
The icons are staying the colored ones now, but the Missed Call / VoiceMail / SMS / Email indicators do not populate. They are static at ZERO.
I guess I have some more digging to do.

Its not really that much of an upgrade. Have a Panel config app and a few new apps. Basically a new WM6.1 No Titanium.
I am seeing some strage stuff.
If I have more than 3 panels, only the last 2 will show in a "collapsed" view.
so i am assuming that titanium wont be in the final release?
if thats the case, is it possible to add the titanium seperate from a different rom?
Update 27/11/2009:
I have now made a multi-device version here. It adds landscape support and the text is slightly larger to accommodate devices with smaller screens which I think looks better on the hd2 too.
Old version:
Hi All,
I wasnt very impressed with other 4-wide and 5-wide options, so I just modified the .cpr from my hd2 myself.
This doesnt touch the registry, so wont be much use for non-stock ROMs and other devices unless you edit it yourself:
HKLM\Security\Shell\StartMenu\CustomGridForm = "StartMenuCust"
You will need to soft reset after installing.
Enjoy!
Could you please post some screenshots?
No problem, screenshots added to post 1.
My CustomGridForm is already =StartMenuCust. Should your cabs work on my case (original rom)?
Other question: Did you get your start menu to work on landscape? I've seen some threads about this but I would like to know where to change this on the reg myself. Some apps might have unstable behavior when adding apps to the white list.
Thanks!
If you are already StartMenuCust it should work - I think its only when custom roms start coming out that will change.
I should have mentioned - This is just for portrait. You could change the landscape yourself as it is fairly trivial. Look in \Windows for:
StartMenuCust_480x800.cpr = Portrait
StartMenuCust_800x480.cpr = Landscape
Edit these in notepad (it is just xml). You have to change the row count to 4 and change the relative size of the images, text etc.
Just tried this out .... very effective thanks!!
just a little point, after the install, the black screen offers a Restart button or cancel; on my stock HD2 neither worked, it had frozen. A soft reset got it going again, with a 5-column display
any chance of gettin them in a straght line instead of honeycomb?>
Editing seems to be simple enough. The problem is that my start menu doesn't rotate automatically. I could use gyrator to make it work but I would prefer to use the whitelist or any other reg edit. I avoid using programs that have to be running in the background or tweak my Leo for me, as much as possible. If I reg edit and it doesn't work, I know what I did and can always change it back.
Any idea on how to do this?
Thanks!
pdgpereira:
This thread seems to cover the reg changes you need to make. I havent tried it though!
vinokirk:
Not a clue, sorry!
Armes:
I dont know why it crashed for you. It asks you to restart itself (presumably because it changed a system file) so its installers fault!
Thanks for the link. I had been there but with no previous success. I finally did it. I isolated the reg tweaks made by gsen cab, I think, and added some others. A soup of reg tweaks... The problem with cabs is that you never know what exactly they do. I'll be doing some reg cleaning in the next hour.
Now I will try out these 4/5 columns in landscape.
Thanks guys!

I was also wondering this... Maybe setting HexagonGrid="FALSE" in the .cpr files does the trick? Will try it out and let you know.
vdws: I wouldnt recommend touching the HexagonGrid option. Im not really sure what it is for, but if you set it FALSE your start menu wont work anymore. Well, it will, but after a long pause while it changes back to the default WM6.5 grid. You would then need to change the registry value mentioned in post 1.

I am happy to convert mine to qvga - and tried but its quite hard to judge in the emulator what it looks like. I dont have a qvga device and I cant seem to use the htc fonts in the emulator.
Have you seen:
[Tweak - QVGA] [3-Sept] | 4/5 Portrait | 4/5/6/7 Landscape | Start Menu 6.5
by chris10234?
That looks like it will suit your needs fine. Let me know if you really want my version but i would need you to test it a few times for me!
Looks amazing cant believe i spent the last 4 days without this tweak thanks for doing it before i had to as it was my plan!
Just wish that landscape would auto-rotate on it...

Thank you very much for you kind help!
If I want to change it back to original setting, is it just simply uninstall it ?
-----Note------ I had tried it, eveythings back to original by simply uninstall the cab file. Now I am using the 5 items wide, it looks smaller but more tidy than 4 items wide.
Very good and thanks.
Any chance you are going to make some landascape ones?
As i added auto-rotate with bsb-tweaks and now have 5 in portrait and landscape but landscape could much much better...
EDIT: Saw the other thread and if i go for the 5 cab there it will give me 9-wide in landscape, right?
adab: Thats right, uninstalling the .cab should restore the rom default.
chris10230: Yup, I have an updated one here which supports landscape too. For the HD2 WVGA thats 5 portrait and 9 landscape.
Cheers once again!
