Roaming weirdness on S710 - HTC Vox

In So. California using T-Mobile but phone only roams on ATT even though I am located in an area where not allowed to roam on ATT. On manual network select, instead of T-Mobile & ATT, I get two ATTs. Roaming indicator is on. Anyone have a clue what is happening? Thanks

[Q] Does Nexus S work in Canada on Fido network?

I was using my nexus s on Rogers network, and I thought, that since Fido is basically the same company as Rogers and Nexus S is an unlocked phone, my nexus s should have no problem working on Fido's network, and all I have to do is changing the SIM card.
The truth turned out to be, my nexus s, with a Fido SIM card inside, is ROAMing on Rogers network! I cannot see any carrier but Rogers if I go into the "network search" menu! Even if I checked the "only use 2g network" option!
I live in Montreal and I should have perfect Fido reception. My guess is that my nexus s may be secretly locked to Rogers network, and no matter what SIM card I put in it always, and only, finds Rogers network and connects to it, making the service become roaming if i use SIM card from other local carrier.
Is there any nexus s using Fido's network properly in Canada? or specifically in Montreal area?
Has anyone found a problem like this when doing a network switch?
it will work only as Voice
data will be EDGE only
Its currently asw 1700 / "t-mobile" only' therefore wind or mobilicity will get 3G.
Rogers Fido Bell & Telus use HSPA 850 1900 will not.
Is your phone *really* roaming on Rogers?
Fido is owned by Rogers, and as far as I know, they share the same network.
It could be that your Nexus S is just not displaying the network name "FIDO" and is displaying Rogers instead.
Wind Mobile, for instance, displays their network number on the Nexus S, but if you put the same chip on a Blackberry it will either show "Wind Home" or "Wind Away".

Yes. My Nexus S works fine with rogers. If I switch to a Fiso SIM card, it literally ROAMs on rogers network with a little "R" on top of the signal bar and ONLY finds rogers network in the "wireless" menu.
This is so weird.

It finds Rogers network and connects to it in EDGE. Even Fido and rogers use the same network/frequency/towers, it just can't see any network but Rogers.
Are your phones working well with Fido?

it doesn't matter, it still is on FIDO
i had an old Treo phones that did the exact same thing, because FIDO is not considered a real network in Canada as it's owned by ROGERS, so most of the time they get grouped together
but if you see their tower ID, you'll see they are on the correct tower
but it is a very tedious process to do that
regardless you will not get billed roaming as fido=rogers=fido=rogers=one company with 2 faces
My friend and I are both on Fido. We have older basic phones. I am on a basic plan. He is on older CityFido plan. Neither of us have data plan, voice only. His phone shows Rogers. Mine shows Fido (perhaps due to my SIM).
When I look at available networks in my phone, I only see Rogers. Fido no longer exists as a network. It is merely a cosmetic sub-brand of Rogers.
Fido and Rogers merged networks years ago; there is only one network: Rogers.
I hope this helps.

[Q] Switching Networks?

So I know when I am not in a tmo area my phone automatically connects to whatever GSM network is available, if any. It's usually ATT but sometimes other regional carriers. However, when I am in a tmo area, it will show ATT as being available, but my phone won't connect to it. Is this a hardware limitation, or is this restricted access controlled by the carrier? If I unlock my phone will I be able to access a different operator?

It won't let you connect because there is no roaming and your own carrier is available. Yes, if you unlock the phone and use another sim you can connect to whatever carrier you desire as long as they are gsm. If you switch to an AT&T sim you will get 2G service only on the G2X due to baseband limitations.
Yeah I knew if I unlocked and used an ATT SIM I could access them. I was just wondering if while I am in a tmo coverage area I could access att while using my tmo SIM like I can while I'm not in a tmo area. As it is now, I can't. I'm just wondering how tmo regulates this. I want to know if there is a way to access att using my tmo SIM while in a tmo area.
Thanks for the reply.

No. TMO and AT&T are direct competitors. They aren't going to allow roaming in areas they have service. I don't even know if they have a roaming agreement for other areas. My guess would be no as AT&T doesn't want to make TMOs service work better prior to the merger.
Oh they for sure have roaming agreements. Anytime I leave a tmo area my phone automatically jumps to ATT.

[Q][SOLVED TESTED][Updated] Boston area; PRL that affords 3G Roaming

Basically wondering which PRL would offer 3G roaming in my area, Boston and south of boston.
I never roam, only time Ive roamed was during that tropical storm a few weeks ago. However, Id like to know if anyone in the area may have experience roaming with 3g. Thanks!
Edit: loaded 11115 earlier and am actually roaming in a low 'sprint signal' area. Got some 3g roaming and actually, if it weren't for my unlimited data and included 3g roaming, I'd be on Verizon.
Post edit: I had 01115 prior and then 60681, both of which did not provide 3g roaming in my area.

*Compairson* One S On AT&T vs T-Mobile - Network Flopping

I thought I would bring this up.
I have the T-Mobile US One S carrier unlocked and I have used it both on ATT and Tmobile.
With all the network flopping going on I noticed something between the two. When i use the phone on ATT, I rarely see 3G. It's always H. And the speeds reflect that.
When I use the phone on T-Mobile, it's always on 3G. I only see the H when the phone needs to do something data intensive. For instance, I start a speed test.. It will start 3G and flop to H for the test. I can sit with the screen on playing around with the phone and it will not switch H at all. I am in a good 4G coverage area.
I know many users are looking for a update to fix the flopping. However, to me it seems more like a power management thing and perhaps on Tmobile's network side.
Just a thought.
I was wondering if you've been able to use AT&T's network with your T-Mobile sim? I haven't, but I thought the Roaming agreement was all set. Am I wrong?

According to the coverage maps, postpaid and prepaid are identical. However, I have seen this as well. I can have full ATT coverage and zero T-Mobile coverage.

[Q] International Roaming and Still Using VWZ 4G LTE

...............just like the title says........is it possible?
I live in a border town with between USA/Mexico. I have the Mexico ad on so I get 1000 mins to use as if I where in the USA, but while being south of the border.
I noticed today, WHILE IN MEXICO. that I received a couple of emails by the notification sounds....it surprised me because I have selected "Deny Data Roaming Access" in the Global Data Roaming access menu. STILL I get the 4G LTE icon and therefore my device has data, BUT my voice service is ROAMING.
Is this possible?
Can I be int'l roaming voice and still be on VZW 4G LTE at the same time???
I even went and turned airplane mode so that when it connected again, it would ask me if I wanted to deny roaming data, I doubled checked to select "deny" and still my phone would be using data with the phone roaming, but with the 4G LTE icon and data access at the same time....
There is NO 4G LTE south of the border (there is but with a different carrier and different freq.), so there is no way it could have connected to int'l LTE, and on top of that by me "denying" access to roaming data.
I know voice and data are split in 2, that the sim carries the LTE duty, and CDMA does the voice duty, SO, it is in plain paper possible since the LTE signal is strong enough to reach, but the CDMA isnt, so it roams........
Also, if its really the case, wont VWZ rape me a new one by charging me int'l data since I actually was roaming according to the CDMA signal.
Anyone care to enlighten me???
Thanks.
