There seems to be allot said in this forum about both Roms, but I'm still pondering this question. Which is better as an all around Rom, meaning web browsing, mms, and the usual tasks that we all know.
I am presently using the "Vanilla" version of the ATT Rom. Can't say that I am unhappy, but you always want to know it the grass is greener on the other side.
Thanks
Well,
for me, that 2 ROM had different adv/disadv..
==================================
- at&t come with few "junk" program, so eat few megabytes memory. But you can delete (unlock) those file
- voda give more memory. adding 2 link (windows Live and MSN)
- voda run smoother (faster) than at&t (my phone)
- but, if you run too many apps, Voda looks like buggy (slower)
and at&t are faster, if you run more apps (or repeated). But beware for low memory warning.
- as report (my friend's Treo), Voda signal not good as at&t
- Voda's ROM boot up faster than at&t. Of course, the red voda logo is nicer than "bulky boring" at&t
well, to early to judge which ROM is good.
Just playing for few days..
I'll report it later..
Better you wait, the PALM ROM comes out.. Maybe in 2010?

I think you are right. It's been my experience that the AT&T Rom overall is slightly better, especially if you have allot of programs installed like me. So for now I will wait for what ever other Rom comes next.
Thanks.
I have a vodafone Italy treo, I tried both the ROMs.
The (vanilla) ATT worked fine for a couple of week or so but after this time of flawlessly operations I had a problem :
this problem.
The worst thing is that the linked patch cannot be installed on a vodafone treo, so I suggest to install the vodafone ROM.
I never eperienced the auduo problem with the wm5 vodafone rom and now the wm6 voda ROM is working fine too.

I tested over 10 different WM6 roms over the last 6 weeks. All of them are crashing a couple of times a day. Getting tired of missing calls or hanging wizard I decided to start cooking my own roms.
First in the kitchen from Faria. DEV-Wizcrossbow Clean v2. But the roms that came out where also crashing. Then the InGeNeTiC Kitchen same. Then the dOUbleofour_Wiz_Kitchen.
I wanted a good WM6 rom because I just like all the new little changes.
Am I the only one having those crashes at least 5 times a day? Or am I using the phone to haevy? ---> 40 calls a day, 1000 contacts, 2000 items in the calendar. None other application loaded as the defaults except TomTom.
Yesterday I decided to go back to WM5. I installed the excellent rom from Molski.biz He has put the crossbow team in it. It looks like the new WM6 roms.
And today I didn't have any crash!!!
Please I would like to hear other comments about the daily use of WM6. In all the forums I only read about a working or not working single program.
FYI
I have a WIZA200 (Original from t-mobile Netherlands)

Is the radio version important for not crashing? Using this radio version in combination with molski.biz wm5 rom gives very good reception.
it should help stability and not missing calls.
Well I ran almost all WM6 romz and no matter what radio ver. I used I either got Missed calls, SMS, or could Not reconnect back the GPRS once I would reboot or had Lost signal
I tried RAdio ver.
2.47.11
2.19
2.69
They were all no good for me. I"m in the US and I"m in the NYC and NJ area
It was so bad I had to go back to WM5
I'm going back to Wm5 tonight when I get a chance, I'm not getting 90% of the SMS messages I'm told were sent or tested.. Used radio 2.61 and 2.19UK.
I get calls with 2.19, but no SMS.
I use Cingular/ATT and am in FL.
I am using 2.47 T-Mobile, Denver, CO.
Yeah 2.19UK didn't work for me either and I use Cingular in Atlanta. I switched to 2.47.11 and I am having better luck
Bahahah, I just bricked my G3 running a Wm5 update.
Hit 99% of the install and my computer BSOD'd with a USB error.
Now I can't install anything. Fantastic.
I installed the Crossbow Professional 1.7 based on Faria's ROM. At first I was pleasantly surprised and love the new features and look, but after about a week my directpush stopped working, I rebooted and now doing that caused me to lose registry settings and since then it has been crashing quite a bit, no calls, missed calls, no emails. For some reason my clock reset to 24 hr military style, my ring tone changed to something completely different...
What I don't understand is that MS demoed WM6 on the wizard and if you look at the new table interface MS demonstrated, they have an MDA there as well... why give up on this solid performed and not issue WM6 officially. It pisses me of that T-Mo US wants me to spend $300 to buy their Wing to get Mobile 6 when the MDA is completely sufficient. Especially since they don't even have the 3G network rolled out. I'd rather switch to AT&T and get the 8525 - the download speed is amazing on 3G.
Sorry for the rant...

I'm also in Florida and didn't have much luck with previous WM6 ROMs. When the InGeNeTiCs dogfood ROM was released, I installed the plain-jane version and had no problems. I decided to cook my own using mattk_r's Stripped and Ready kitchen and haven't had any problems whatsoever. I use the 2.19UK radio and have no missed calls, no ringtone changes (which I had with previous WM6 ROMs), no MMS problems (other than the sync issue which plagues everyone). I highly suggest cooking your own - put what you want in there and experiment. Once you find a mixture that you like, you'll be one happy WM6 user.
I'd suggest you leave out your WAP settings (keep GPRS from connecting) and see if you still have issues.
From what I've seen and read, the phones have a hard time juggling data and phone functions, and supposedly this is a weakness in all PDA phones like ours.
Same thing here
I have a US T-mobile MDA g3 too.
Been flash many wm6 ROMs. Then flash back wm5 because wm6 freeze on me all the time.
I just flashed TNT2 it seems better all my application works (spb shell, insight codewallet, memmaid, phatpad....) but still freeze once a while take quit long time to boot (it turns off by itself couple of time I have to take out the battery to boot) I will give other week test then decide to keep it or not .
All those wm6 roms none of them flawless on MDA, sometime not compatible with certain software I have, sometime just no sound after use the earphone ...
So T-mobile will never give out the official wm6rom for MDA? Like they did for Dash?

nope. they released the wing to basically screw us that bought the MDA. oh well im going to get the kaiser when it comes out anyways.
no problems with crashes here on any of the tested wm6 roms. running xplore 2.0 for some time now and still think its the best rom for me
From what I have read it looks like AT&T have hacked the HTC rom quite a bit and it is worthwhile flashing. With T-Mobile however it seems like most things are roughly the same (has HTC home, comm manager etc)
I have installed Quick GPS / live search / messenger etc via cabs.
Is it worth it yet or should I wait for a cooked rom?
Also out of interest, if I do flash to the HTC rom how is it with all the connection details ?? Do I need to re-add all the SMS center number and Web access details etc ???
I flashed mine from uk t-mobile to austinsync's clean htc rom 2 weeks ago and it's fine.Put sim card in a message popped up saying "click here to download t-mobile uk settings", and voicemail/sms/mms settings were all configured automatically. The rom is much faster than the original and slightly more storage space too.
anyone flashed from the t-mobile uk rom to the standard HTC one?? if so is there actually anything to gain / loose by doing so ?
I am also keen to know which is the better option with these ROM's?
Having gone from an Artemis to the Kaiser, I am keen to address the standard t-mobile rom with something similar to one of the cooked ROMs that was available for the Artemis?
Does anyone have the T-mobile ROM in case a repair was needed after installing a cooked ROM?
(sorry if this comes across as a Hi-jack not meant to be just question popped into my head)
Yesterday, I've replaced my dutch T-Mobile rom, with one of the cooked ones you'll find on the forum. The Vario feels much snappier now. I know the tmo rom is relatively clean, but still, there is a performance benefit.
As it already has WM6, is there any point me changing rom (I'm used to doing it on universal) on my vario III uk?
Is there a rom which is significatnly faster and more useful?
Or am I better just adding cabs with apps i want?
Greg.
I'm in the same boat with my ATT Tilt. I think the only reason to change roms is to get back some of the space take up by ROM crud you may never use. Beyond that, CABS are the way to go. With a 4GB card on board, I'm still not close to running out of space so I'm sticking with the stock ROM.
if everything works fine for u i see no reason
i changed to a different rom cose it kept failing to set up a yahoo.co.uk e-mail account
cooked roms are night and day diffrence from shipped roms. try a dutty rom.....you're never go back to shipped.
I personally used the att rom for a couple of days becuase I couldn't upgrade due to the white screen and after changing over to the htc rom it's so much faster.
Thanks - so you are saying it can make a big speed difference? The tmobile rom doesn't seem to come with a lot on it anyhow, is dutty/other significantly faster than tmobile?
Also how is the reliability with dutty/other cooked? Aside from pocket IE (which I have always found lacking) I have no issues and do not need to reboot yet, been a few days now.
As a minimum consider the HTC Stock ROM, its better than than T Mobile tweaked crap.
From there, i can't say i tried a few (not Dutty's yet) and found them too quirky, for now the HTC ROM is very stable with very good battery life.
Are you out there? Rom/radio preferences?
The optus rom is supposedly quite good if you want a fast OEM experience (there is no branding on it)
ive got the touch pro from three.
using the stock radio 1.08.25.20.
Using ROMeOS, err forget which one to be honest flashed about 10 in the first day i got it, but the one with no touch flow 3d. hated it, looked nice but so slow.
Yes we are here
I've had mine since early December.
Have been running it on the stock 3 Rom that was released in Dec with Radio 1.08.25.20. Really hated it at first as it was slower than my original Hermes.
Tweaked it up with some performance enhancements and it ran heaps better.
I tried a few of the XDA chefs cooked up roms but have not found one yet that is to my liking.
Today I have loaded Elite Rom R3 and will run this for a week or so to see how it goes.
EDIT: Also lets not get into the american fuze thing. Its a f*%#ing Touch Pro or a Raph. Why they have to re-brand everything is beyond my comprehension. No offence my US brothers but your marketing people are wankers.
Yep.. another aussie here.
3 network..
Rom version : 1.90.861.8 WWE
Radio version : 1.08.25.20
Only had it for a day or so, but i've gone through all the tweaking guides and it feels noticably quicker.
Bad news to all the aussies who have htc touch pro. I heard htc touch HD is coming!
I'm running the stock Optus 1.94.710.2 ROM with radio 1.02.25.28.
My TP came with radio 1.02.25.19 when new and I used to get one to three bars of reception inside my house.
I flashed to radio 1.02.25.28 and reception jumped to three or four (full) bars of reception! GPS reception was also improved
Since I'm on the 3 network, I then flashed to radio 1.08.25.20 because this is the radio that comes on Touch Pros bought from 3. Reception was horrible even though I thought it would be equal if not better than 1.02.25.28. I averaged one bar of reception with occasional dropouts.
Flashed straight back to radio 1.02.25.28 and reception went back to three or four bars of reception with absolutely no dropouts. I've stuck with this configuration ever since and it's been flawless.
Finally happy ?????
Had my touch pro since early august, and after countless knows how many flash's and tweaks and software upgrades and ll the numerous other things required of a touch pro owner to have a useable device, I believe i can finally say I am happyish. Have been using the PROven ROM from qsqa for some time through it's variances after trying various others and not finding them quite to my needs. Still like any ROM this is not perfect and still requires a little bit of tailoring to each individual's prefrences. Am now running radio 1.08.25.20 after upgrading from the original 3 Radio, I find it to be a great improvement especially in GPS reception, still all in all my good old Dallab DP900 and Tytn make me wonder if all the fuss is worth it, bring on the Touch HD i say

Yeah but.... no one is on NextG 850...........
So far so good, with Elite RC3 rom... although I do miss the Three network tab with all the shortcuts (guess i'll just have to recreate them).
This thread still alive? Anyone had any experiences with the latest radio on Three Australia network?
im only a day old on the 3 network (havent even changed my signature yet) with the pro. already HardSpl'ed and flashed the rom (you'd be crazy to leave the standard one on there.
the only thing that has bugged me is the reception so far, going to give this a go for sure!

Wow you arent wrong about 1.02.25.28, heaps better signal now. im about 20 mins from Melb CBD and was only getting 1 or 2 bars on the rom it came with, now im on 3.
Whats the power usage like?
I've been upgrading for quite sometimes as well.. i got touch pro 3 days after three released it (a while ago....) as I has been hunting it for a while in Australia.
Anyhow... Proven rom is probably on my top 1 as well.. VERY FAST but at version 2.4 i found it a lil unstable so I swapped it to Energy Rom 2 righ tnow... dno't like it as much but I have to wait til next week as qsav dude broke his phone and is repairing...
I've been using Radio 1.02.25.32 for about a good month. OK reception, very poor in townhall station *sydney* but it was better than the normal 3 radio. Doesn't drain the battery as much as well.. GPS is pretty fast (don't know whether it related but worth the mention)
any aussie member know if there is anywhere that has Moto S9-HD in stock or have used one? I wanna know if the call reception any good eg. in train or buses or walking along the street....
Cheers

hey give 1.02.25.28 a try, even the connection speed is better.
I get full H coverage at work in Kew with Virgin Mobile (aka Optus)
Hi all - subject line says it all.
I have a shiny UK Vodafone Magic turning up tomorrow and, hoping to save a bit of time, wanted to canvas the guys on here regarding their opinions of the best ROM to use on it, before I start experimenting. Have browsed the boards and it seems that the main issue with Hero ROMs is performance on the smaller RAM size. I would like as decent a UI experience as possible, but would prefer not to make my new toy unusably slow in my hunt to get that "hey, wow, shiny" UI factor.
Main important features for me (in order of importance):
* as full featured a browser as is possible
* PDA-type stuff (i.e. calendar etc)
* email, particularly Exchange connectivity
and only then
* shininess of UI!
Would I be best waiting for Jerpelea's new release before playing? Or am I better off leaving well enough alone and staying with the stock ROM (and get my Exchange fix through third party software)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or thoughts.

well mate for stability and performance you have the Ion R4 and European rom for Magic. they are based on google interface with few tweaks. Ion r4 has hero look over google base so its a no brainer why they work so well
the hero ports don't work so well for most but looks amazing my friend. i love the Hero V1.4 by fatal1ty as it looks amazing. for me however it has some major drawbacks main one being the lag. for me also after using for few days it seems to get worse and gradually grinds to a halt. the hero black is very similar to Hero 1.4 with a few apps missing. they woirk the same more or less. thats why jerp has started new build from scratch but that is a few days away yet so your choice in waiting........... the ion r4 and european roms are good to go and offer a bit more than standard voda rom.!
you choose..........thats my opinion!
I have the same phone as you.
I would not recommend this one "[Update 6-07]HTC Hero ROM for Magic by Fatal1ty"
It is very slow on our UK Vodafone magic's
Hero ROMs are slow because the original Hero rom was built for the HTC hero with 288mb RAM instead of your Vodafone Magic's 192mb.
SP france europe rom seems the best choise..
Got a UK Vodaphone model , Ion r4 works best.

i have a uk vodafone and 1.4 is NOT very slow on mine. it is slower than the standard rom, slower than ION r4 and slower than the european one
however
it is fine for me. it has a lot of very cool features - multi-touch, facebook, twitter and flikr integration with contacts and of course it looks fantastic.
having been on 1.4 from fatal1ty and currently on the ION rom i can say that i am moving back to 1.4 as it is so much cooler. i am going to get a class 6 sd card and see if this improves speed
Paul
The class 6 wont make a huge difference - I tried. However, depends on how willing you are to put up with lag.
Personally I'd recommend the Ion R4, OR get hold of the original ION rom (I got it from Android Bloggin Network - I'll post link later) and a Root for it, then I have a blazing fast ION stock rom, with Root, so you can customise as needed.
100% stable, and Damn fast.
I tried all the hero roms, but however good it looks is a bit cruddy when you hit 10+lag between apps etc.
My phone is usable, and does everything I need until Donut, which will bring many of the social network functions in a google supported form(google still target the G1 internally, so wont hit the ram restriction like the hero rom)

Many thanks for the above, everyone.
To the Ion R4 advocates - do you mean from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523971
Also, is there a newb-proof guide to updating ROMS (I believe it needs to be rooted first?) and, perhaps more importantly, restoring your original ROM (ie. if you don't like the results)? Again, have punted around the forums and found a few guides but most of them seem to refer to other guides that I can't track down (i.e. they say something like "follow ABC's guide up to the reboot, then do XYZ", but have no idea where to find ABC or his/her guide).
nk02 Ion R4 or the SPF European ROM
PAUL
any chance of you tubing a vid of your fatality 1.4 in action mate i think alot of users are holding off rooting and hero build rom updating because so many complain of lag issues and freezing might be nice to see the speed in action

cool look foward to that if youve got time bud
I think Loccy has raised an interesting topic here. I am also a Vodafone UK HTC Magic user, willing to try some new ROMs with Hero's features, however what I really miss here is some sticky thread with complete step-by-step instructions of where and how to start with ROM flashing. I've been a heavy user of Windows Mobile devices some time ago, and also been playing with xda-dev any many different ROMs. But as far as I remember for each device-specific forum there was at least 2 or 3 sticky threads with complete n00b instructions. In this case it's a bit scattered all over the place and takes time to figure it all out and glue the pieces...
If I have time later I will try to create a guide - The information is there but absolutly agree it's hard to work out whats latest / correct info.
If not today then over next couple of days.
Hi newb alert here! Just to add a little to eva_d's point above (which would be great), as a newb n00b I'd find it really useful to know what the differences betwenn the different ROMs is.
I'm 99% I'm going to get a Magic on VF UK next month. The phone looks good and I like the idea of the open source OS so you can fiddle with what you get which is why I am here. I understand the OS on the VF UK magics is relatively lame. However, I am having trouble understanding what's the difference between fatal1ty's, nk02's and the smartphone euro one? I mean in terms of functionality. What difference does user see? Is it jthe UI? Functionality? Both? Are there any screenshots?
fatal1tys = nice but slow
nk02's = nice, fast, but what's the difference between the full and "lite" as a user? Compared to the stock ROM?
Euro = nice fast, but again, I'm not sure what I would be getting compared to what comes in the box? (btw French isn't a problem for me).
All the hero roms - currently having issues, good to play with but maybe not for everyday (unless jerpelas new rom out later is as good as hinted at...) Has multitouch browser and better music app
NK02 - good, based on the very fast Google ION rom - with a few extras
SFR - Good fast rom, french based but quick and stable
I use the stock ION rom, rooted with a few customisations. I managed to get the HERO camera working last night, working on the browser today, might have something to release (but I will need some help) later this week, depending on what the others release...
Fatal1ty - are you still there?
Jeperla - Looking forwards to version 005
If i was getting a new phone i would not get the VF one - i would go to orange and T mobile and look at what they are offering. The HTC hero looks very nice and it natively runs Rosie so why not just get that if that what you are after
remember the VF magic has even less RAM than the Magic provided by t-mobile - not too sure if that version is coming to uk
Paul
Note Rosie was not meant for a RAM shy device like the VF magic so it is going to struggle no matter what. it is a toss up between looks/functionality/speed so choose what is most important to you.
Looks = fatal1tys Rom
Speed = Ion
functionality varies depending on what you want - for me fatal1tys works so thats what i use

Additional n00b questions:
1) Do custom ROMs for Magic have full access to Android Market or installing apps would have to be manual after flashing new ROM?
2) How to revert original ROM? Is my understanding right that nandroid is a right tool for the job, ie. it dumps current ROM onto SD card and then allows to restore it? (just trying to glue the scattered pieces together
3) How does web browser work in various custom ROMs? I use my Magic mainly as an internet tablet for mobile browsing on the Tube or wherever, I very rarely use it for phone calls - would it be OK then to use custom ROM with some Hero features?
