Move Application - General Topics

Hey all.
I saw recently a free app that said it could move an application from the main memory to the storage card. Now i cant think for the life of me what it was called!
Any ideas as I am desperate to move live messenger to the storage card!

it live msg'r came with the phone it's in the rom and cant be moved
if you want msg'r to run while the pda is turned off then it cant be
places on the sd card as when the pda is off so is sd interface
and if
you saw off the branch msn is sitting on it crash and burn

No not on the rom, need to install it seperatly, but seems to not install to card.

If Messenger is already installed in the ROM, I wouldn't be suprised if it was unable to install to memory card, due to either a newer version in the ROM or just plain sloppy coding on MS's part.

Like I say, it is not on the tin. I am using a cab from these forums to install it
I swear though that there was a freeware app that said it could move installed apps !

Well i found pocket mechanic, but i know there was a free thing as well

Found it http://www.iaccarino.de/silvio/ppcstuff.htm#MobileAppMover
Not tried it yet though lol

Good find, but the description is very sketchy. Let us know if it works.

Last week I posted about memory storage v programme. After getting v confused about it i uninstalled some apps from the device and instead loaded them to memory card (was this right or wrong?). That left me with 12Mb of storage memory free, I figured that was fine and so left it at that.
This week my device reported critical memory space - storage memory down to 0.12Mb!!!
I have un installed several more apps which I like and use to get to 3.55Mb of storage memory available, but even this is dropping and I dont know why.
Q have I got a virus? How can I tell?
Q Can I tell what is taking up space in memory? If yes how? please dont direct me to the "find" large files as all it shows me is stuff on the storage card.
Q If I install programs to the storage card, do they still take up room in storage memory? If so what benefit do I get from installing to MC?
All help greatly appreciated
Pete
No such thing as a WM virus. Chances are a lot better IE cache ate it all. Try deleting cache files thru IE's menu.
You gain memory by installing to a memory card but if the card comes loose, pops out, you forget it, etc, you're suddenly without your apps. I don't install anything to the card and generally have no problem. You might want to do a search on how to put your IE cache onto the card, tho. That'll solve a lot more problems than installing apps there will.
Try TreeSize
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-treesize-v1-00-03.html
This allows you to check the memory in use on your device.
there are a few known wm virus's but never heard about anybody getting one
think they were just made to show it could be don
the market of mw phones / pda's is much too small still for virus's to find their way to devices

Cab file to store application

I have tmobile wing and when I am trying to install any application in SD card, it by defalut goes in device memory. It's asking where you want to store and I mention SD Card, but still it goes under device/Programe Files.
Any advise?
Just to let you know, you're not alone in this problem. My MDA has been doing the same thing. I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago but never an answer to it so I'm not sure anyone know what would cause them to do this.
I think it depends on the application if it has support to be run from the storage card. To be sure, contact the developer. Some applications normally will install to the Main memory rather than the storage card, despite the option, because it basically can't be run from the card, so by default it will install to the Main memory.

Thanks cktlcmd, that's what I pretty much figured. The only thing's I've installed recently that I wanted to put on the card rather than the phone was yahoo go and google maps. The even weirder thing is that when I tried to move them to the card with pocket mechanic, both of them said that they were already on the card and wouldn't allow me to move them. So, I removed them both, reinstalled them to the phone and then moved them to the card with PM and both of them work just fine from there.

Yes, you are correct to point out too, that even if it installs directly to the Main Memory, then you later manipulate it to be transfered and run from the card, it will work flawlessly. So basically, trial and error does apply and remember which ones you installed to the card to save space.

But the Point is, when I specifically mention to instal in Storage Card, why its being installed in Device memory. This was not the problem before. I tried to install pocketcm in sd card but still it installs in device memory. how do we change that.

[Q] Moving apps to SD - No root!!

Sorry for my dummy question.....
I'm trying to install / move to the SD card some apps i've installed from market.
I used app2sd, 2 or 3 different developer, but no way to move......i've not rooted my device.....
A friend of mine said he is able to move apps directly from settins, application manager, but the only "button" i have are stop pregram and remove...
How can i do it???
Honeycomb does not include any form of apps2sd and theres no way to do it.
you have 16GB for apps as well, so theres no reason for apps2SD.
...ok...thank u very much!!!
i'm new in android world...when i was searching for the tablets many people says they will wait 32gb version, so i think maybe more memory is necessary...or not???
i saw that apps are very small...and i hope they will be always small.
No problem for video, or music, storage because i'm using an external HD...

Unable to move app to ext sd card

ok so i looked in the forums and from the looks of it cm9 n cm10 and all other roms cant or wont make a work arounf for the inability to move app to the ext sd card i read that their someone making some kind of script but i am an idiot and cant understand but i do know how to read and follow instructions, but i dont see how one can apply these work around for the ext sd card fix unless their is a fix in the works and im jus being impaitent, i know people may think 4gb is alot but the fact this tablet can handle big gaming app it takes up alot of space fast. if have a memory card only for only multimedia, it kind of defeat android purpose for innovation when it was the only phone capable of putting apps on a ext sd card, any advise would be appreciated thanks..
here the link to some attempt to fix this issue

I'm rooted, and downloaded GLtoSD (GL2SD) from the market.
It's a 1-2-3 app. Install the app, download the contents of the game/app, load gl2sd, open the menu, click move app, then select the app you want to move, if it's able to be moved it can be. I love it.
I looked into other apps, and other solutions, and this one was the least complex of them all. Sorry I do not have a link handy, I been drinking a bit lol
Been in your boat though, and wanted to help. Give it a shot!
Try (directory bind) their is a thread for it in the forum

What did you do to save apps on SDC instead of internal mem?

Hello everyone..
I really hope someone would respond to this post or give me ANY kind of guidance on this issue because since I switched to android and bought GP2 a week ago, I keep asking different variations of this question, on (twice on XDA, and 3 times elsewhere) and not one answer or any kind of response!!!..
I've been trying to find out a way to install apps directly on sd card, if not then to move apps to sd card after installation. I found some information online but some outdated, some vague, and some tried but somehow didnt work.
I rooted my device and tried app manager but it didn't move large apps like games to the SD card (said it did but actually didnt). I also downloaded a game that the uploader said the data folder can be saved on SD card under (android\obb\) but again it only runs when i save the data folder in this location on internal storage, but wont run if saved on sd card.
I'm not sure why did no one respond to my questions, but anyway, I'm not asking any specific question now... I just hope that anyone with couple minutes of free time can talk about how he handled this issue.
Thanks you
I think you need something like FolderMount [ROOT] or so.
You can find it on Google Play.
Apps shouldn't be running on sdcard in the first place. The data folder (obb) on sdcard makes sense but apps on sdcard should be a no go. Didn't even know why Android had that choice at a point of time.
