WM6 'comming soon' check it peoples... - Palm Treo 750

http://www.palm.com/au/

Weird how they still show screenshots of WM5 despite promoting WM6!!

even weirder how they told everyone that it'll be out for Three in mid-August and it's already the 20th
maybe i'm just too impatient. but who cares i have vanilla WM6 now

Would be nice if they would just release it already.

From seeing Palm completely botch a couple of recent OS updates (PalmOS and WM OS), I wouldn't want to see WM6 get rushed. Something about the classic picture of dogs sitting around the poker table gives me the impression of Palm's current R&D team. Not comforting at all, even if I'm equally as impatient as you.

It would be nice to see the upgrade for the unlocked Treo too. I hope they wouldn't hold it up just to release the operator versions sooner.

Who's running this war?
From WMExperts.com
Steve Green over at PocketPC mag says he has the inside scoop on WM6 for the 8525: October 5th. As he says, that's a bummer - it makes hunting for the leaked 8525 WM6 ROM pretty tempting. I still think AT&T plans on releasing Windows Mobile 6 for the Blackjack and the Treo 750 at the same time. That's also a bummer, because I get about one request a day from people asking how to find the Windows Mobile 6 ROM for the Blackjack. My advice is the same bitter pill I've been offering since I gave it a shot: don't. Unlike the 8525 and the Treo 750 ROMs, the Blackjack ROM definitely feels like it's not the final version.
This is just far beyond ridiculous. Thank God that leaked ROM is good.

OffTopic - it seems that there are no more links to he Treo 750 product details on the main page of Palm US. I refreshed the page more than 20 times...
The Treo 750 promotion was before shown at the bottom line of images - changing with other promotions.

Tired Of Waiting
As for me, I've given up waiting for "their" update. I know as time goes by, the leaked Rom will be improved by our excellent chefs here. Screw the big guys and their ever posponing of the upgrade. I for one do not need them.

I've got a REAL DOUBT! Why PALM loves to "play games" with their own customers patience?
Maybe when they start to loose them they will pay more attention!
Hard to understand!

I think it's because they are not making money off existing customers. As they are most likely giving the update for free, there is no reason for them to rush with an update.
I am in the same boat as wuffi. I have an unbranded phone and am trying to be paitent waiting for the RWE version to be released or at least leaked.

The screen shots are Windows Mobile 6, you dont see the "bubble effect" of the new WM6 GUI until you change themes ...

I noticed that Voda Business theme is always "flat", even coming back from another (I'm using Windows Mobile Green).

Good News on Crossbow availability!

I just attended a session with our Corporate wireless providers: Verizon, Cingular and Sprint regarding US devices.
When I specifically asked the question "Will you be providing WM6 updates to existing devices", the answer was pretty much universally "Yes"
Very unexpected! From an HTC standpoint, this covers Wizard, Hermes and Apache handhelds and may be one of the reasons behind why we've been seeing leaked WM6 ROMs for these devices already. Palm enthusiasts should see the 700W series refreshed as well. I'm not in a position to speak Internationally here, but for the US at least, this is very welcome news!
I believe the reason is that WM6 contains significant security enhancements that are pretty much business driven: SD encryption tops the list here. Windows Update is also huge (especially now, given the DST patch issues with corporate IT staffs trying to roll it out to mobile users).
Additionally, WM6 is closer to an AKU refresh than it is to a whole new OS. Crossbow resembles AKU3.x in many respects.
Bottom line: It doesn't appear that the "Buy a new device to get WM6" mentality is going to play out with WM6. From a device pipeline perspective, there's reasons for this too. Lot's of cool new stuff is coming. That, not the promise of a fixed or patched OS, should always be the device upgrade enticement IMO.
What about Uni?
Edit: Nevermind. Forgot that no carrier has Uni in the US.
this is great news. it does contradict a lot of other view's i've read.
some ass burglar on howardforums.com told me (very nastily too) that the wizard support will be at end of life in a couple of months. hence, no wm6 official rom update from carriers.
rebuttal, anyone?

I can't see that happening. I bought my Cingular 8125 when they first rolled out with my local Cingular store in February, 2006 and had to sign a 2-year agreement. They'd BETTER support it for the full 2 years of my contract, or I'll be going elsewhere. Doesn't matter to me, though. It's already unlocked, so I can use it on ANY carrier's network.
Would just be a "bust" for Cingular, though -- with all the business I've sent their way after being a satisfied customer for 8 years. I can always send people somewhere else, too.
The 8125 isn't on Cingular's EOL list. The 2125 is however....

Doesn't matter. . . I'm already running Crossbow. I figured "why wait for Cingular??" I didn't want all that JUNK in their Extended ROM, anyway.
Hey sleuth, If the 8125 isn't there on cingular's list, do u know if its there on T-mobile list (for the MDA?), we can always take a little "help" from t-mobile ROMs to update the other lesser priviledged wizard variants...
Sorry, I've not heard anything about TMo devices.
Well, with pressure from other telco company, i'm pretty sure tmob will need to do something about it. The question is now then.. WHEN
Glad to here that the carriers will be giving this update.....its about time.
in my country, o2 zinc was just released with wm5... and i was just thinking that this is a sign that wm6 wouldn't be available for my dopod 838pro...
this is truely good news indeed... infact it's better then windows vista which is crap now that i've tested it...

Good question, that.
A few months ago (after I got my V2... around September last year), I was speaking to a TM tech support guy as he was setting up my HSDPA (managed to get it sorted before they got all arsey about non-corp customers ringing up and asking for it ). I asked him about any possible roadmap for Crossbow for the Hermes and other capable devices, and he said that they had absolutely no plans for at least the next 12 to 18 months regarding WM6 rollout or availability for their existing supported devices.
Of course, I hope this changes given the US carriers saying yes (from what I've read above), but I can't imagine TM will jump on it quicksharp. I'd expect O2 to offer it first out of anyone.
I would assume, then, that those of us running HTC unbranded/unlocked products will eventually get them. My TyTN is just a month old and I borderline hate it (running the original 7/06 ROM- I'm too much of a coward to hack an updated ROM into it)
But I'm in Chicago enjoying 3G love (on a $25 unlimited legacy blue plan) and it's like heroin: there's no way I could go back my to my Treo 650. So this will keep my hopes alive for the time being.

Windows Mobile 7 PPCs?

2007 is at an end. WM7 will be upon us soon. Which handsets seem most likely to be able to run the OS? Id hate to but a brand new PDA now and be green with envy a few months later, hoping the PPC will be popular enough for somebody to cook a WM7 ROM for it. The Imate Ultimate range looks promising, but Im an HTC enthusiast.

Where the hell did you get that info from? WM6 has just been released... I hope for an wm7, but to be realistic: I don't think a new ppc os will be introduced until 2009 or later...

Ha ha. It must have been a big rock.Doesnt sound too encouraging to know that the only thing to look forward to is a glorified service pack. But like they said in those posts, in order not to curb sales theyd rather keep quiet.Graphics havent been exploited by MS as much as they should have, probably the next PDAs will be handheld XBoxes, like the PSP. It makes business sense.

...that's not the point of a WM PDA. WM's main market has always been business communications, and that's probably where it'll remain.
Not to say that you might not see a graphics-oriented PDA anytime in the future; take a look at the O2 XDA Flame for example- but the mainstream bunch of devices will probably remain business-oriented.
The Kaiser has the potential to do all that I would like to see already.Since Tomb Raider was released,I thought PDAs were off to the next level of gaming. I think business functionality has been laid to rest to a large extent, with a few networking bugs to be sorted. If MS had to build up that side of things they would massacre the competition.
I saw a news item and screenshot of Windows Mobile 7 UI somewhere recently as Microsoft execs are now testing it on there mobile phones. I cannot remember where though....will need to see if I saved the articles photos to my PC at home...hmmm. Anyhow the UI is white grey with a Vista style button in the top centre and photographic icons for the today task buttons. It did not much appeal to me over Windows Mobile 5 / 6 - although 5 seems to be the fastest for me even with customisations. Its slated for release next year.
I also saw it somewhere but I forgot the most recent posting. All Im saying is if somebody signs a gag-order the must be some serious money on the line.Maybe they can run the Vista on the Shift on a PDA?
could we up the screenshots here as still cannot find them on my PC.

Tmobile Win Mob 6.1

Afternoon guys, Flame me if this has already been discussed but thought I pass the news of my repaired Vario 3... It had upon it Winmob 6.1...HEHEHEHE oh
Unfortunately I had to pass the poor little blighter back has it still had not fixed my original issue.
Thankfully as this issue has been going on for a while they kindly replaced it with a brand new Vario 3
The bad news the new Vario 3 had Winmob 6.0... Ah never mind. Any how, SBE are T-Mobile’s logistics repair centre and if this is the case then the official release should be soon on the web site (Well I hope, but I could be proven wrong.)
Apologises is this is old news... I've not had the time to search the issue, but know from past experience it can take a while from SBE to official.
This is all good and all but I don't understand why t - mobile have taken so damm long to rollout windows mobile 6 to its HTC devices. Its been out for a while now after all ...

I spoke with a Tmobile insider, I've even seen the Demo room in Hatfield where all the little devices are on show to the business peeps. I got the impression from both parties that the testing of this device along side the network must be fully working. If anything fails they start again and put the date back. But may I stress both parties were coy to admit what the faults were.
I dared to mention the Vario4 and a smirk came along his face with the Phrase "i'm not at libilty to say when that device will be available"
About time! I'd almost given up hope!
Shame I've fallen in love with Manila type ROM's now.... but this should be useful to flash the device back to stock T-Mobile whenever I come to sell it on or have a problem.
Thanks for the news, I'll keep a look out for it.
(And hopefull Tmobile will release the Vario4 soon, Im looking to upgrade in December! If not... I'll have to take my business somewhere else!)
I recently received my UK Vario III back from repair to find it had been updated to 6.1 too. Unfortunately it seemed to be buggier and leakier than the original 6.0 :-(
I've since put PDACornerUltimate on and find it a much more worthwhile upgrade

Any Further WM 6.5 News?

I'm considering jumping ship from my HD to iPhone. But in November I remember hearing that manufacturers were going to be receiving copies next month (this month, december).
So I took this to mean that we should probably be getting copies here on xda and over at ppcgeeks at least by feb but I was hoping sooner....I searched but didn't find much.
Anything more specific yet than "first half of 2009" or "q1 09" ??
I'm dying! If I jump to the fruit phone right as 6.5 comes out that would be pretty ridiculous, so I of course want to see what it has to offer first..(haven't really seen a lot of details on it).
If you search long enough you will always find a newer and even so much better mobile phone that freaks you out right after you bought your new device.
I thought the diamond was good - bad reviews. Then I thought the Touch Pro was good (think so) and then I heard about the Xperia X1 (good one) and then there is the Touch HD and the Wimax buddy. And that happened in how many months?
I don't think WinMo 6.5 will be so much of a revolution that the walls of the big apple building will collapse. Go and buy your iPhone, but don't come back crying in a few weeks and tell us about all the apps that don't exist / are not allowed to be sold in app store due to security restrictions.

Windows Mobile 7 could be delayed until year 2011

According to it seems, certain to char them with some sponsors of Microsoft like HTC or NVIDIA are developing that is not expected any greater update of the Windows Mobile system until the Movable World-wide Congress of next year...

Well it's been delayed so many times...who knows
I've read today that it would be available for hd2 in November 2010
Yeah, I read that and as you say who knows
Anyway, here´s the info I got today, let´s see what really happens...
Cheers galaxys
My thoughts to this are that Microsoft knows that this is there last chance so if everything isn't up to speed, they will keep delaying. However this strategy will eventually back fire as avid WM fans are becoming impatience.
Absolutely disgraceful if true. There's no reason why a massive company like Microsoft should not be able to put out a high quality mobile OS platform by 2010 considering all the time they have had and the reported size of the development team.
Yeah this is getting crazy. Hurry up MWC...

Yeah, I feel you. I've been running Android on my Rhodium for a few weeks, and although it's a pretty early port and many features don't work properly yet, I still prefer it to Windows Mobile's slow release schedule and sub-par performance. I used to be a die-hard WM fan, but M$ has really let their users down, and let their phone empire collapse around them. I'll highly consider buying an Android handset when my contract expires ~2 years
interesting article about WM 7....
