Can this SD card be used for XDA2/MDA2? This can transfer write 9Mb/s, and read up to 10Mb/s. Does XDA2/MDA2 support this format speeds?
If yes, is it better to buy this than just a regular SD cards? Because I saw it on the net that they have a sale on this card that almost the same price compare to regular SD card. Less than $70 after rebate.(256Mb)

I´ve got an SanDisk SD card with 256 MB since 2 Years and didn´t have any Problem with it....
Stefan
PS: Why are you using capital Letters?
There are no problem with sandisk... You can easily use Sandisk!
The Sandisk ultra II will work with XDA2, but I don't know if the XDA2 will write 9MB/s and read the 10MB/s. It will then simply just speed down..
I hope that helps you a bit.
btw, the prize difference is not that big.

Thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it.
@Deathrow: Thanks for the tip!
nothing wrong with sandisk their cards are the most compatable brand out.
ive had my 256mb sandisk too for nearly a year never had one problem with erase or dataloss :\
if only that site delivered to the uk id buy one of them
I have the a 256 MB Scandisk too for over 14 months and had no problems with it.
My brother in law bought a 128 mb sandisk SD card from the US.. and the first time he opened it, tried it - it didn't work. Devices cant read the card, he tried it on a lot of devices, tried formatting it and still cannot be read.. since it was bought from the US, he has no way of returning it..
i agree with the prvious post, that panasonic sd cards are better

so in other words it was faulty? so you compare a faulty card to that of a working one
the sense in that :|
Yes.. its faulty and its a sandisk... get that? I have also browsed through other forums where they have a lot of problems with the sandisk card...
Lexar and Panasonic SD cards are better than Sandisk , in other words, SD cards "made in Japan" are really the best !
After 2 SD Sandisk with the same problem as above (I was happy, as I've bought them in a store in my town, I returned them ..) , I buy only , Lexar or Panasonic , no problem and really fast ...
SANDISK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????
I'm in Nigeria where there is no right of return, so you can guess my grief when I shelled out a lot of cash to buy a sandisk 256Mb SD card that turned out to be bad. Since then I buy ONLY lexar. A word is enough for the wise, as the yorubas will say!
I do use few Sandisk SD cards (from 64MB to 512MB) .... and so far so good
regards, monika
SanDisk Ok? not sure...
I bought last year a 256mo SanDisk but after one month, it dead :'(
The seller sent to me another one and all seems to be OK for 1 year.
For me Sandisk is not ok
I comared the speed of a Sandisk 128MB and some others (i.e. delkin).
Sandisk had only half the Speed (with USB Reader) than the others.
As I tried to open a 4Meg Pocketstreets map from the Sandisk Card on the XDA1 - Pocketstreets hang.
It worked with all other Cards
I'll never by a Sandisk again!!

Suprperry: Just for your info, I live in Australia, and ordered a SD ULTRA II 256MB to use with my XDAII. Got it off an ebay store called aussiememory. I recived it 2 days ago, and have had not a single problem. In terms of the faster speeds, I did a quick benchmark with Pocket Mechanic (I just put it on, havent fiddled enough yet), and I was only getting something like 1.4MB/s, or something like that, for read. Like I said, I havent mucked around with the program, and Im sure there is 1 specific test to accurately test the speeds. When I find out properly, I will post.
Also, this pocket mechanic is a great tool for the XDAII. You can select any type of format, memory scan and repair, defragment, etc, all while your card is in the device. I used it on the ULTRAII in the XDAII, and you just have to have it on permanent power while you use any tests in pocket mechanic.

Thanks for the info m8! And thanks for the tip on pocket mechanic, really appriciate your effort!
THANKS guys for all the input/comments on this particular card, really appriciate it!
Sandisk seem to be slower in comparison and it seems also that either their quality control is sloppy or lots of rejects are being recycled on the market by dealers, it reminds me of a guy selling Intel cpu chips cheap, turned out they were all from the reject skip, gave Intel a bad name around here but it wasnt their fault really.
SD Memory Card - Problems - Data Loss
I'm using the SD card on a PDA (XDA 2). After having successfully copied several mp3 files and also loads of pictures on to the card, the next day, they just disappeared. I this I noticed loss after I installed an applic like BatteryPack. The files I copied onto the card used up quite a lot of space on the card and there was just 50MB remaining. The card is still showing 50MG remaining, but there is no sign of the MP3s or the pictures I copied onto it.
Can anyone help me? May be the card is faulty. Is there a way of formatting the card so that at least I can reclaim the 256MB of memory? I'm using ActiveSync to access the card on my PC. I can see it in explorer but cannot format as option to format is not there.
I am worried about it's (SD Card's) realibility now. If I use it for storing new pictures or other important files and loose them like I just have, that would be very annoying.
Thanks in advance - Ustad

Hi there!
I am avaiting my Magician any day and was wondering if there is any recognisable difference in speed between a 1 GB MMC and SD Card?
Please tell me as I planned to buy a MMC version (cheaper).
Regards
<))><
SD is faster!
http://www.geocities.com/romidar/mmcvssd.htm
Thanx a lot for the quick reply but I am not jet canvinced. My concern was more about the practical results. I.e. Does the Magician really read and write faster on SD Cards? Is it a problem to watch a video from a MMC card or to run progis such as Navigation?
Regards
<; )))><
Why go through all this trouble ? SD is faster than MMC and the price is almost the same (if you know where to look that is, we in the netherlands have great sites for that).
Goodluck
Could you recomend a site? Unfortunately I don't speak any dutch.

i just bought on ebay a Sandisk 1GB SD for 60 Euros, try to take a look there
What the heck. I also bought a 1 GB SD Card through ebay. 54€ is fair i think .
How did you all find such low prices? I only found 74 euro excl. transport costs.
By the way, does the speed of the cards matter much? Is it possible to view a movie without stuttering on a normal (slow) sd-card?
thanks
As to the price: It took me about 5 days constant attention on ebay. But as I have Internet at work I guess it was worth it.
To the speed: I guess you should be fine with a SD Card. Basically I had the same question regarding MMC (see above).
Sandisk 1GD SD Card.
65 Euros.

Dear All
First, let me thank you for providing this excellent forum. I'm new and with your help, I got rid of all the T-Mobile crap on my Wizard and it's running superb after unlocking, installing the Kjam ROM and overclocking. Thank you very very much!
I hope it's the right place posting the following question related to a 1GB miniSD Sandisk card that my Wizard won't regognize anymore. It asks if I want to format upon insertion the card and that's it. The storage card doesn't show up in any of the tools like 'Flash Format', 'Storagetools' and 'Pocket Mechanic'.
Under Windows XP SP2, it also asks if I'd like to format, with the formatting process failing. When inspecting the contents of the card with R-Studio's Hex Editor and '010 Editor' I can see that there's data but there are discrepancies about how much space there's actually available. R-Studio reports it as a 1GB card while 101 Editor reports it as a 7.5MB and 98GB!! card.
Trying to hex edit the card (e.g filling all with 0s with any of the programs fails as everytime I try to save and open the application again my old data shows up again.
I'm not familiar with SD card file systems but sense that something is screwed up with partitions or similar. Is there any sophisticated tool that will just verify/repair/erase/format the card as I have searched for several hours now and all I can find are basic data restore tools that don't do the job? Or is the card beyond help?
Any thoughts and hints are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and thanks for your help and efforts!
Martin
sd cards use the same filesystem as hd's do
fat32 fat16 ntfs
i'd say that card is defect
Sounds like you got a card that had it's firmware hacked.
This is common in the Mini-SD market, as 2 Gig cards are commonly hacked to make it look like they are 4 Gig cards. The seller often hacks into the firmware, and makes a change there that makes the card report to the OS that it has a larger size than its capacity acutally is. This is especially prevelant on ebay. If you bought the card from a reputable vendor and it's only a few months old, take it back and tell them you want it replaced. If you didn't, then you are out of luck. Note: Vendors will also do this with 1 G, 512MB, and 256 MB cards. Only buy from someone you trust (in the states I prefer newegg or tigerdirect), and if the price is too good to be true, then trust your instincts and go elsewhere.
Black-Wolf
Got it from my local Chinese on eBay
Thanks for your thoughts. My bet is that the card has died.
With regards to firmware hacking: I have used it for around six months.
If hacked, will I experience problems straight away or do related problems take some time to surface?
Thanks for your time and efforts!
Martin
Normally, they would show up when you tried to exceed the actual limit of the card, not necessarily when you first used the card. Depending on card and other hardware configuration, techincally, you might never find out that you had a "hacked" card until you tried to exceed the card's actual capacity, at which point you'd start getting data errors or "unable to save" errors. Again, the best policy is to buy a card only from a reputeable vendor. Currently, the only 4 Gig cards available are not even available to the the general market, only being made available to hardware or OEM vendors. 2 Gig cards are plentiful, but not all are as advertised. "Caveat Emptor"!
Black-Wolf
tnx for that info black-wolf. i've read about ppl having probs with their 4gb sd so i guess thats the reason.??one question. do this prob affect mini-sd only? what about the 4gb sd???tnx
The problem with 4 Gig cards is mainly with miniSD cards. The vendors on ebay know there is a huge demand for 4 Gig miniSD cards, and the unscrupulous ones will hack the firmware of the card as I said above, and then re-silkscreen the text on the card so it looks like a 4 Gig card, when in fact it is a 2 Gig card. SanDisk is supposed to be releasing their 4 Gig cards to retail soon (sometime this quarter), but again, "Caveat Emptor" if you are not buying directly from them! I wouldn't trust a vendor claiming to have 4 G cards until well after they have been released to retail.
As a final note, any card - SD, miniSD, microSD, XD, CF, etc. - can be hacked firmware wise and made to report its capacity is larger (or smaller - though no one would do that...) than what it actually is. Regardless of where you get your card from, if the vendor has a good return policy (no return fees for bad products, pay for S/H, no restock fees, etc.), then they are probably safe to deal with.

Hi
What is the maximum size memory card I can use om my Treo 750 with WM6?
Thanks!
Ivar T
If you will find it will be 32 GB .
So in real time now - no limit ( up to 32 GB)
Is this for real? a 32GB card?
What is the highest anyone has tried & successfully gotten to work in the US on a 750?
Sorry I am new to my Treo, love the dang thing but want to get a memory card for it that is large enough that I don't have to carry more then one card when I go on vacation in 1.5 months.
thanks
Is this for real? a 32GB card? 32 is way more then I'd ever need but a good 4gb would be great if it actually worked

the largest I could afford was 8GB and it works fine. Palm treo uses FAT32 cards. so I think the limit is the limit of FAT32 file system
Hi, guys
This is a great forum, and I learnd a lot of stuff on this site. Thanks for all your hard work.
I'm a new user of windows mobile and I'm currently with an o2 orbit 2. I have 3 1G cards separately stored applications & co-pilot, music and movies. The question is how i can switch between different storage cards without harming my device. Do i have to switch the device off to change the card, are there any implications for doing that? Cheers.

The Cruise/Polaris's storage card is supposed to be hot-swappable, per HTC the manufacturer. With the price of storage cards going down every day, have you considered buying an 8gb card? I bought one for about $70 with my new Cruise, and now I see them on ebay for $55-60. Good luck...
You can "hot-swap" the µSD card of the o2 Orbit2 (I do ), and, of course, also of the TC.
I bought a 8GB Class 4(!) µSDHC card on ebay.de for 39,95€ (+postal charges)
EDIT: Here: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130194411701
thank you for your reply.
I'll use hot-swap for now. And buy a 8G card in a few days.
anything I should be aware of when buying the 8G card?

Personally, I prefer SanDISK brand...
If anyone's interested, I saw an online article somewhere, that stated that sandisk and toshiba both had 16gb microsd cards starting up production, and toshiba actually had found a way to cram 32gb on a card, but sandisk was still working on it. bet we'll all have 32gb cards by next Christmas... Man, back in the early 80's when I had my Atari 800XL, if you'd have told me I'd have 32gb on a portable phone, I'd have laughed at you... heheheee
Seriously. I remember I had a 20 MB hard drive on a 8088/86 computer. That thing was huge and weighed a ton. Now we can have 32 GB on something smaller than my fingernail.
Yeah I have an 8 GB card from amazon for about $60 if i recall correctly. They're definitely worth it.
if you want to use your sd card as some kind of "ram-extender" you may try to get a fast one.
I eg install all programs on my card to have as much ram free as possible, there for I bought the fastest I found.
aleph305, do you notice any difference in speed - can the Polaris take advantage of a faster card? (Perhaps there is a maxspeed)
first : sry 4 the delay.
..
and now. number three, the larch ...
no ... ehm
I guess so.
on a magician I installed pocketplus on the card (noname 2gb @ approx. 12r/5-9w mb/s) and the today screen becomes unusable.
then bought a panasonic 2gb 150X (approx 20-22r/14-18w mb/s) and pocket plus runs like it where at the ram.
Therefore I can confirm that the magician will and Im pretty sure every device will when you use the card as "ram".
ps
- you have never enough ram
- your ram is never fast enough
