Using QWERTY keys to launch apps - Palm Treo 750

Does anyone here know of any hack or any app which will allow you to program the QWERTY keys on the 750 to launch an application with a long press? There is a program called Butler which does this for the Palm OS.
I would love to know if this is possible.
Any help at all is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I too would like to know. Currently you can assign a speed dial to any key. But for some reason it only let's you dial and not launch a program. Funny thing is it seems quite easy but it looks like only Contacts is in the select window and you can't change it to a file.
I haven't tried AEButton plus yet. But that might screw some things up.

Ctrl Key Pro

While it doesn't use long key presses, Control Key Pro uses 2-button presses to launch settings utilities, applications and other functions, all user definable.
I find it especially useful for copy/paste and kill active app.
I also recommend multihook to allow Treo Keyguard and Ctrl-Key Pro to peacefully coexist.

HTC BIOtouch question

Hey all, this thread is getting really long but still I would like to contribute in my own way. Here is what I've found so far using the 7.7 rom from zoki.
At first I didn't really like the HTC touch features but when incorporated in a rom they just seem to work better.
The touch flo thingy i really didn't get. I would like to specify the program that should be started by touching the "music" button (MediaHubMini). One can give a path (and other name in the register) to the exe file one would like to activate using the TouchCube buttons. This doesn't work for the mediahubmini register settings. More specified, it doesn't work for the path settings. I.e I would like to use the "music" button to activate CorePlayer. I can change the name to "media" though.
On the other hand, it does work for the APlauncher register settings. I.e. I could let the mail butten activate the great Qmail program instead of the standard Windows Messenger program.
If someone knows how to change the settings for teh mediahubmini, I would actually use the HTC touch functions.
reg. settings can be found here.
[HKLM \Software\HTC\Biotouch\Aplauncher] --> changing pathsettings work!!
[HKLM \Software\HTC\Biotouch\Biotouch]
[HKLM \Software\HTC\Biotouch\MediaHubMini] --> changing pathsetting do not work!
Hope someone can help me....thnx.

SDA wm6 Questions for Key/Button Registry Values and Cyberon Voice Tag

Hello All,
I have two issues I am having difficulty finding the answer to:
1. I am running Andot's PEE wm6 on my SDA and I am trying to find the registry values/paths to the keys for Short_POC (keycode=234), Short_Camera (keycode=233), Long_Camera (don't know keycode), Long_VolUp (keycode=121), and Long_VolDown (keycode=195) (in order to disable these buttons completely without initiating two programs at once with one keypress while running AE Button Plus--button remapping program)...So in short does anyone know the registry values/paths for these buttons so I can effectively disable them from their cooked ROM values?
2. Also, Does anyone know where the Cyberon Voice Tag program is in PEE WM6 (probably needing a registry tweak) in order to make a shortcut to reassign a button instead of the volume down button? Any of the hotvoice programs/shortcuts assigned for Cyberon will not initiate the program (appears like it is hard coded to only function for the long volume down button)
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks for your time!!

I am not sure if I have an answer but have a question: how did you manage to make camera button work with AE Button?
Anyway have you tried to delete mentioned links?

Hello,
Thanks for your question and suggestion. In order for the camera button to work with AE Button (great assistive program, allows you to add up to 4 functions per hardware button...just requires a little getting use to in order to use it) I had to find another program that would not affect the function of the phone if implemented/executed. I went to the task manager (processes) and tested several system programs to make sure that if I created a shortcut to one (renaming Short_Camera and Long_Camera) it would not affect functionality. This should therefore disable the ROM shortcuts assigned to the camera button.
I would prefer not to use another program or this technique to disable those ROM assigned buttons...hence this post and my questions.
For your second question: The system wouldn't allow me to delete these links secondary to them being read only (part of the ROM cook).
Thanks again,
vjgrace
I believe the ROM can be unlocked, can it not?
Otherwise, copy your shortcuts, edit them, and (re)cook your own ROM.

Hello,
Thanks for responding. I am not sure how to go about unlocking ROM. I love the wm6 PEE it is just these two little issues I am wanting to modify, but thanks for your suggestion.

How do you manage passwords?

Hi all,
I have a question to you on how do you manage your web passwords on the VOX?
I am facing the issue that I have a couple of username/password combinations the I always manually (and painfully) have to type into pocket explorer every time I log on.
Do you know any good tool (like keepass) that supports auto typing or at least inserting predefined text blocks via a hotkey? Or something like that?
It is also a pain pocket exporer neither jb5 neither Opera Mini supports storing login information as desktop browsers usually support.
Maybe one of you already found a good way to work around this and let me know how you manage this?
Many thanks and have an excellent day
Andi
Opera Mini keeps me logged in to my websites provided they store login information client side with a cookie. I am sure there is an application that will keep a u/p but not auto insert it. You can always use mortscript to automatically stick one in the clipboard on a certain keypress.
And how?
Hi,
thanks for the tip with Mortscript. I was looking around this interpreter language a bit but could not find a way to make the script being triggered by a certain key press.
Is there a way to achieve this? I.e. pressing the enter button for some seconds trigger a script or anything like that?
Many thanks
Andi
I use AEButtonPlus to bind my keypresses to applications. It's really excellent software and highly modular.

How to re-map T-Zones key

Hi Gurus,
I've just upgraded my 2 year old TMobile SDA from WM5 to WM6.1 Std from Karhoe's excellent guide.
It worked beautifully, and now I'm trying to tweak the phone to make it better for me.
Firstly, I'd love to map the T-Zones key to the Task Manager app, which I run frequently to free up memory. With the original WM5, it was as easy as editing a registry after app-unlocking the phone.
With the WM6.1 update, I have no idea how to do that again. I found a reference to something like this on this thread but I don't want it to point to a different URL... I want to point it to the Task Manager launcher.
How do I do that?
Also, how do I change the default view on the 'Start' menu from a list of icons to a flat numbered list? I'd love to be able to launch an item with a number... they way I had it in WM5, because my toggle key isn't as responsive as it used to be.
Many thanks!,
Ananda
Edit the AP3 and AP4 file in Windows folder
Short v/s Long?
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction karhoe!
I re-mapped the T-zone button (Short_AP1, Long_AP1) links to point to the Tasks and Task Manager executables, but only the short_ap1 seems to work.
I'm assuming that the short_apX links are executed by a short press, and the long_apX links are executed by a long press... however pressing either for a short click or a long press, both only activate the short_ap1 mapped executable. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
H
I think I posted before somewhere about Long_AP# , it doesn't really work as it has something to do with the keyboard drivers.
Well, I have thought of what you thought before.
To have Short_AP2 to open Messaging, and Long_AP2 for compose new SMS
Ah!
So it doesn't work... possibly, as yet. O well... I can live with that.
Many thanks!

Is the Treo Pro Task Manager available as a Cab?

I have an 800w, and was hoping to find the 320x320 TP HTC task manager.
I've tried the other one's floating around and even some modified to work with Real VGA on a 320x320 screen, but none work with a regular 320x320 screen.
here's the files.
now you just need to make the cab.
Actually, you might be able to just copy the attached files to the 800
Thanks Berd.
I wish I knew how to "cab" it up so that if it went awry, I could just uninstall it via add/remove.
I might just dump the files in my Windows directory and see what happens, but I'm not confident that it'll work right if I do it that way.
I was thinking, though. Perhaps I could download and install one of the other HTC TM cabs, and then overwrite the files it installs with these from the Pro. Then, theoretically, an uninstall of the TM might result in uninstalling the replacement files...
Either way, do a Backup first (Sprite or Otherwise).
That way you can always do a Restore and undo any issues that may arise.
Well, I needed to do a real hard reset anyhow, so before I did, I just dumped it all in my Windows folder. No luck.
Perhaps someone else with more knowledge than me can figure this one out.
Thanks again for the ROM dump, Berd. I'm betting some good use will come of it via zbop, hannip, ebag, etc.
Task Manager Quick Menu
Has anyone found a way to activate the HTC Quick Menu from a button? The Task Manager is great for stopping programs but the HTC version also allows switching between running programs. Unfortunately, it requires a thumb press on the screen top right, an awkward place for me to reach as a lefty. I can't seem to find any exe that does that function. Anyone found it?
Thanks,
Mike

For the Task Manager you are correct. But that only allows you to stop programs. I am looking for a way to start the Quick Menu (a part of the HTC Task Manager package) that allows stopping and switching between programs that is only available from the X close on the today screen. I have tried all the apps that are named quick*, task*, tsk*, qtask*, etc but cannot find the one that runs the drop down Quick Menu. It is possible it is one of the DLL's that can only be started by another app.
Thanks,
Mike

Yes you are write. But this opens the Task Manager, not the task manager quick menu.
Thanks.

The Treo Pro has the built-in WM task manager (taskmgr.exe) in the windows directory. I created a shortcut to my programs and use it instead of the HTC provided one and this one workds great.
I'm pretty sure there should be some reg edits associated with this but here is a cab for it.
