Changing rom version display - HTC Tornado

Hey,

I installed WM6 and want to install an application which needs to recognize i'm running a WM5 device.
How can i change rom version display info to fool it into thinking im running a WM5 device? any ideas?

Another way to solve this possibly...
Anyone know how to extract out of a .dat file with an installer the cab file which installs the software on the smartphone??

Windows Media Player 10 cab

Has anyone managed to extract the Windows Media Player 10 cab file from the extended rom?
When WMP10 came out and it was decided not to make it available for download, I remember some people saying it that they had extracted it from the Ext ROM of their new devices that had it but I dont think the cab was ever posted on a thread.
Does anyone have it? If so, does itwork by just installing it on another ppc that is relatively older - i.e. one that didnt ship with it.
That would be really good, as I don't want to put the chinese translated ROM back on my phone.
Unfortunately WMP10 isn't stored on the Ext ROM so just extracting it is out of the question. It appears to be embedded into the OS.
So I doubt you'll be able to get it as an upgrade install soz

update ROM mac OS X

Hi
I'm attempting to update the ROM on my Jammin phone but can't seem to work out how this is done without access to a windows computer running activesync. I imagine that what I need is the actual cab file which I'd be able to run on the phone. I've downloaded the ROM (JAMin_WWE_213923_2139123_022021_shi.exe). But have been unable to extract the CAB file. Could anyone point me in the right direction.
Many thanks in advance.
RussellDG
I don't think you can update the ROM with a Mac at all. All update utility are PC application. The ROM file is not a CAB file therefore you cannot extract as CAB file.
Hi
thanks for the reply. I poked around some more but in the ultimately I believe your right. Disappointed, I installed bootcamp/xp and updated the ROM using widows.
It worked.. but I'm starting to miss my treo 600.

Installed Programs after ROM Change

Hi,
newbie question:
I'm looking to change my French ROM to English on my S200 but am I wondering does it overwrite all of the installed software on it (i.e. Excel Mobile, Word Mobile, etc)?
If so, where does one reinstall these from? It is not obvious that I received a CDROM with all of that with the phone....
Thanks,
Jeff the OilGuy
P.S. I would appreciate an updated link to the Qtek200 WWE archive file that I cannot open with WinZip or WinRar..
These progs are in windows mobile. When u install a different rom, them proggies stay in. So, no need for any CD.
thanks!

Can anybody post their WM 6.1 Threaded SMS files?

I have a T-Mobile Shadow and would like to use the new wm6.1 Threaded SMS program on it.
Can anybody post/attach their WM 6.1 Threaded SMS files?
In wm6 the SMS program is under \Windows and the files are:
tmail.exe
tmail.lnk
tmail.manifest.xml
tmailutl.dll
Thanks in advance!
...anybody?
Here you go enjoy
I managed to copy only 2 files. the other are protected anв can not be copied.
please guide on how I camn copy them for you
I Hope that is what you are asking for
good luck
I'm been trying to backup the original files and have the same problem.
tmail.exe and tmailutl.dll can't be copied and those are the files that I need to port SMS 6.1 to a WM6 device.
I'm been trying to kill the mail process using Celetask but it doesn't work.
Thanks anyway!
Will this help you out Freddy? It was ripped out of the Palm Treo and made to work with AT&T. Here is the link to the page with the download for the cab.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376738
I can try it but one of the things that I liked from the wm6.1 version is that it is part of the OS. I've seem other SMS treaded software that need to be running in the background for it to work.
How is the Palm version?
Can it be used with T-Mobile?
I have heard of a lot of people using and liking that better than wm 6.1. threading.
Can I get one?

Hi freyes01, so did you ended up successful with that cab file? Or is this project been abandoned and went straight into a ROM update instead??
WM6.1 comes with default threaded SMS, U can any time disable it, by going to HKLM\Control Panel\Microsoft\Inbox and set SMSAvailable to '0'

Changing Default Keyboard Skin - WM6.1

Hi all,
I need some advice on doing something that was fairly easy to do in WM6.0 ROMs, which is changing the default keyboard skin by replacing the msim.96.dll.0409.mui file.
I've tried a number of WM6.1 ROMs and this does not work. The only way I have been able to get the .mui file working was to re-cook the ROM and using an OEM package. Even after I re-cook with a new keyboard skin and try to replace the .mui file it does not work. Very strange.
Any of the cooks out there have any ideas why this is? I did a reg. dump of a ROM with and without the keyboard OEM package but did not find anything specific that would show why this does not work.
Appreciate any feedback. I know this works without any issues in WM6.0 ROMs.
Thank you.
Don't know what your doing wrong buddy but most of the time you need to cook the new .mui file in like I always do and i have no issue with the WM6.1 roms ever using the grey keyboard that I always use in my roms. To get this straight your dumping the rom and then copying the new .mui file right over the old file if there is one at all then rebuilding the rom? that is the only way it will work you can't copy over it once you have rebuilt the rom it needs to be cooked in.
austinsnyc,
Thanks for the response.
If I cook the .mui file in a ROM it works fine. The problem is not being able to replace the file (even though the file is overwritten). I was able to do this in WM6.0 ROMs but it doesn't seem this is possible in WM6.1 ROMs and I just wanted to confirm it.
So if I dump, change file, re-cook, works fine. I guess I'll have to do that with any of the new WM6.1 ROMs I end up running.
Thanks again.

Actually you can change it easily via cab install but you need to sign it first. You can try the attached cab, and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1610615&postcount=3 for other skin.
Try this. First import the attached Keyboard Cert registry file (use dotfred's task manager which does registry editing, or resco registry editor). Once you do that, you should be able to use the various keyboard cabs. I've attached one that has like 20 keyboard styles you can choose from (uses mortscript to do this). Choose the one you want, soft reset, and presto...
