Since the threads are becoming too long to keep an overview on everything I would like to start a poll on which Radio ROM ist providing the best results.
Specifically there seem to be issues reported for the following:
ROM 1.13: Issues with data network reconnect ("modem not responding")
ROM 1.15: Bluetooth stops working
ROM 1.09: Seemingly stable
Please provide your experiences
BTW: I'm using 1.13 richt now and have the reported issues with the data network not reconnecting.
I use 1.14.10 as 1.15 place where I live cannot provide normal reception. At 1.14.10 there are some problems
1. Suddenly disconnected GPRS
2. 2 second pause at a raising of a tube
3. 2 second pause a release
i moved back to 1.09 wich so far is the most stable without having calls missed.
Radio 1.17.00...?
i saw Mamaich use Radio 1.17 in the Signature....
is that True...?

Using 1.13 data problems
i'm using 1.13 since it passed all test run by jwrightmcps while its rom 2.02.00 WWE.
1st Problemon the whole i do not get low signal problem nor there is any data disconnection while on pda but when using usb modem on pc; it does disconnect data.
2nd problem i feel is that i am unable signin to my Windows Live Messenger till now. it says synchronization error. you may be in low coverage area. ---> and my signals are always full.
3rd Problem i cannot send or receive mms since i stacked my universal with 1.13. it reaches 99% and suddenly the baloon disappears and the message stays in the outbox (unsent) with the status of PENDING on its envelop icon
farehmani
Using 1.15 and use the bluetooth headset. have yet to experience the not working problem, yet.
however, if bluetooth is not left on, and i were to beam a file using Resco, sometime bluetooth will freeze and a soft reset is required to regain functionality.
hope someone would post the link to radio 1.17 for me to try out
The problem here is that the choice is rather limited in the poll.
I'm using 1.15 but to be honest I don't notice any difference between that or 1.13 or 1.14.1.
I'm based in England, but don't use GPRS or pushemail; maybe that means I'm not au fait with the subtle differences between the versions?
I just think there are too many variables and it is a personal preference?
1.09 is very stable
Hi,
I have tried them all and I get back to 1.09.00
It was the most stable and functional one for me.
Tried the following
1.08
1.09
1.10.03
1.11
1.12 (fixed)
1.13
1.14.10
1.15
So far, I've had problems with all of them, but hell that's just how the uni works
with 1.15 and 1.14.10 I have loss in BT connection along with hanging 3G and missing calls when the device is on.
1.12 is a bit better
Have to try 1.13 again and also 1.10.03
1.09 Still gives me the best result basicaly
haven't tried 1.08 because 1.09 is mostly used and 1.08 seems like a step back
mamaich! Post 1.17 Radio here please
I have used 1.13, 1.14.10 and 1.15 and at the beginning 1.09 but I have one big Problem but don't know if it's with the radio:
I can hear some people very hard (they are too quiet) and the same the other way around. They hear me very hard. Have tried it with the PDAVIET/Darkforce WM6 and Radio 1.14.10 and 1.15. But once I had a WM6 ROM (Think it was Helmi's 1.1) which was VERY LOUD AND CLEAR. Is there an option to turn up the Volume or do I have to try every RADIO backwards?
I agree.
Radio 1.15 is no good. Very unstable. I've lost reception many times, mainly from going in a place with no reception and then back outside. It'll search and search and search and it'll find NOTHING. i have to do a soft reboot in order to get reception again.
I'm gonna try out 1.09, my jasjar came with 1.13

No similar problems with my Radio 1.15, using O2 in the UK. When I'm on the train or the underground and lose the connection, it quickly reconnects once reception is available.

I agree - I'm on T-Mobile, and 1.15 is the BEST of the available ROMs for me (I'm using Helmi's v1.1). The older ROMs generally seem to have better data handling, but poorer voice facilities. v1.15 is fine for voice, and has the most stable data of all the ROMs I've tried (and I've tried them all).
I think it's been said before, but is probably worth repeating; the different radio ROMs seem to give differing results in different territories. The best option is to try them out for yourself, and pick the best one. At least with a radio upgrade there's no hard reset, so you shouldn't lose any data. (Having said this, I tend to get some minor settings changed when I flash, but it's not a big deal to reset them - worth taking a backup if you have the facility).
Cheers,
Steve.

nvm i fixed it...the device thought the headphones were plugged in. I plugged in the headphones, then unplugged them and bingo!
first of all: sorry for my poor english!
unfortunately I keep on losing some SMSs.
I have changed different ROM (from the NBD 4... up to the 8.2 that currently I have in use, XDA6 in all the releases...) but the problem persists.
sometimes... not frequently (unfortunately always from a person for me very important) I lose the SMSs: the telephone "revives", illuminates the display green and red buttons... but nothing.... SMS=0
(I have called the person that I imagined had written me and has confirmed me)
I have tried the whole radios: 2.69 (good audio...), 2.61...very fast but bad receipt, 2.47 (I thought the best), 2.37 (original of mine k-jam Italian), 2.25 of T-mob and finally the 2.19.. from all declared the best... but with a bad audio according to me.
Any idea?
with a downgrade to WM5 the problems seem to disappear....
Please, help.... i love WM6....
i think its not bcuz of wm6 !
you RESET your phone without any reason ! if you RESET your phone , all incoming data will be lost !
so try shutting down your phone by pressing and holding the power botton and this problem probably will be gone
Tau,
This is a confirmed problem with WM6, if you search around you'll find the T-Mobile Radio ROM and CIngular Radio ROM threads where people outline some of the issues they've been having and the fixes they've tried and gotten to either work or fail. I'd just reccomend either switching back to AKU 3.3 or just keep trying different radios.
That's a radio issue, the only ones that seem to work consistently is Farias version of 2.69 or 2.19. The non faria version of 2.69 still seems to have that problem, at least for me it did.
thanks...i'll try faria's one

No problem. The easiest way to figure out if a radio is going to work for you is to hook your phone up to activesync and then call yourself or text yourself while it's connected. If the the send and end lights come on but you don't recieve the call or sms it's time to flash a different radio rom. Call yourself or text yourself a few times to make sure because you may just get lucky and it recieves the call or sms the first time or 2.
I am having an issue where the person I call states that I sound like I'm calling them from the space shuttle. I had someone call me on a landline from my MDA and it actually does sound like a NASA shuttle call.
I've applied the registry edit for AUDIOGAIN:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN]
"EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME"=hex:CC
"RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME"=hex:CC
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN0]
"EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME"=hex:CC
"RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME"=hex:CC
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN1]
"EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME"=hex:CC
"RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME"=hex:CC
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN2]
"EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME"=hex:CC
"RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME"=hex:CC
The problem is present with handset, BT headset, and wired headset. Anything else I should be looking at? I'm on TMO USA, but I roam on AT&T and EinsteinPCS. Problem crosses all networks. The only thing I haven't tried yet is putting an AT&T sim in and see if it's still there. I don't really think that would be the problem since I can put my sim in my Nokia 6230 and it sounds fine.
Running mfrazzz's XM6r2a. Original TMO 2.26.10.2 has same result. Tried 2.19, 2.25 (TMO OEM), 2.40, 2.69 radios. 2.25 seems the best of them all for me. Signal sucks, but call quality is about the best.
Any direction would be appreciated!
yo
dude that's like an added bonus no? you can use that to your advantage say you've went into the space program
seriously though i've tried them all (i'm on ATT) and I stick to 2.25 here in the middle of the USA, I get full bars just about everywhere, i've no doubts that each radio rom has different traits with physical location as well.
Sorry, forgot to mention that when I do have full bars in major cities, the sound quality does not improve.

Can you elaborate a little more on "YOUR" situation. ROM version, radio version, what you have done...
Went back to original TMO 2.26.10.2 and problem disappears. Copied audiogain settings and went back to XM6r2a. Still no go. I am using the same radio, 2.25.11 as in the TMO 2.26.10.2.
Is there a thread about all the reg keys that deal with the phone/radio?
When I search on phone & radio, it brings up everything but what I'm looking for.
Moderators: Is there a way to have the system not search signatures? Many users have "Radio:" in their signature and it seems like it is pulling on that also. I have been searching each sub-forum individually and it seems like I'm getting at least 1000 hits per search. Also, I show posts, not threads. Thanks!

what I tried was call my mobile from a land line and put some comversation with good resulst in quiet emviroment but when the place was noise i cant hear a thing
Same problem here. The most frustrating part is the audio on my end sounds fine and is intermittent on the recipients end. Friends tell me it's so bad I should throw out my cheap phone! I've tried 2.19, 2.25 and 2.69 with various 6.0 roms (XDA, TNT, Black Diamond and others) applied Cingular radio hacks and still have the problem. I had to send back the phone for an unrelated reason and it's the same with the replacement. It doesn't seem to be signal strength related and can come and go during a conversation. I don't think it happens with the stock rom but it's so painful to use I've only had it loaded for a few hours. Went back to 2.25 and applied the audiogain hacks above. Will let you know how it goes.
Problem solved... at least for me
Going through the registries of both TMO 2.26.10.2 and 5.2.318's, I found that the GSM codec is being replaced with MSG711. I'm assuming Microsoft's implementation of G.711, probably to support VOIP as well. Since I pulled VOIP when I customized mfrazzz's rom, it's not a concern for me.
I'm assuming that the people who aren't having problems are on a completely EDGE network, where I'm still on many GPRS towers. I don't think that directly has an implication; however, I'm sure providers have greater bandwidth going to towers that handle EDGE, thus the EDGE tower is less likely to go to full capacity, and can handle extra bandwidth.
GSM Codec: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-GSM+Codec
G.711 Codec: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.711
Below are the reg fixes that helped me. I flashed TMO 2.26.10.2, then my modified mfrazzz, then applied the reg fixes. Echoing and Deathstar-spaceshuttle voice on the other end has disappeared, and I only had one bar with radio 2.25.11. Haven't tried other radio's yet, and not sure I will for a little while until I know this solved the problem.
Hope this helps!
Reg Fixes:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active\07]

"Name"="ACM1:"
"Key"="Drivers\\BuiltIn\\CODEC_GSM610"
"BusParent"=dword:00032400

"Order"=dword:00000000
"Index"=dword:00000001
"Dll"="gsm610.acm"
"Prefix"="ACM"
looks like it work, i just chang the registry like you say and i think that works
im going to reflash the phone and see what the other people say
tks a lot
*** IMPORTANT NOTE ***
In the reg key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active\07]
07 is the location under Active where it sits for "ME" after loading my modified mfrazzz and using radio 2.25.11 that's there from the TMO 2.26.10.2 original install. When I applied 2.69.11 for testing, it moved to 02. It moved the contents completely; however, if you apply the reg fix and it's not at 07, it won't solve your problem.
Good rule of thumb would be to check this registry entry manually to verify its location, make any adjustments if needed, then run the fix.
T-Mobile branded MDA. Reflashed to a Windows Mobile 6 version by "mfrazzz"
1. Battery life. TERRIBLE. I think it might be the phone. Got two other batteries. One lasts about as long as the original one I had and the other last just a little longer. Have yet to try a 100% new battery yet. In about 5 hours off the chrager with maybe a phone call and a few texts, it will drop to about 70%. Any ideas?
2. My MMS does not work. I know its from when I switched it over to WinMo6 and all the "fields" are empty for the settings. Customer Care wouldn't help me so does anyone on here have the required information I need to put it?
3. My LAN does not work. Possibly another thing from doing the WinMo6 deal. When I go to the Comm Manager and click LAN, the little windows loading icon comes up and goes off with the LAN not turning on.
in regard to the MMS not working, run the cab i attached. after that i reccomend going into the MMS settings/servers and then selecting the T-Mobile MMS connection, go in there (you'll see server name and such) and go to the bottom and change "Connect Via" from T-Mobile MMS to T-Mobile Data. that works well for me. keep that cab handy for future use as well.

i charge mine everyday... that was the same with wm5, but i can get almost two days of some phone and lots of email if i have to (gets down to about 10%). i dont think ive seen any pocketpcs that can make it much past two days with normal use... but it should not drop quite that fast -> one thing to try is go down to the 2.19 radio and look around for the power saving cabs (for some network connections and memory card) that are also built in to the later roms. both together make a big difference. also put your screen brightness to the lower setting, thats what really sucks the power.
if you like the xda roms, try going to xda 5. or try any of the other popular roms, nothin's pandora, antc wiz 2.0, theloon's kitchen for a custom, boring 1622, any TNT rom, whiterat's WRCX, etc... keep trying em out
i advise you to flash to an official rom first to get rid of any corrupt registries.once you do that....flash your favorite rom and after flashing HARD RESET....i do this to be on the safe side....

you may want to do a search for "clean extended rom". when u flash back to an official rom, they generally have an extended rom...upgrading to a cooked rom usually doesn't upgrade the extended rom...has been known to sometimes cause battery drain issues.

hey we all learned it at some point
radio is the raw code that drives the "radio" in your Wizard. it tells it how to search for a signal, what to lock on to, how to switch between voice and data, all the code that is need for the basic phone part of the PDA to work.
the extended rom is usually used by carriers (att, tmo, etc...) to install their custom software for the branded device, i.e. wizard becomes mda or 8125. after first starting the phone, a file called autorun.exe starts loading extra programs that are added on to the base operating system. it also starts loading the CAB files from the extended ROM, 10MB worth in the case of the wizard. these are things like MyFaves, the connection settings for data on the TMO or ATT networks, the setup my email link, etc...
hope that helps...
Not to take away from anyone else's work, but I flashed the T-Mobile Boring ROM, and haven't had a hitch, once I got all the internet setting right. I also am running the 2.71 GSM, and I can honestly say my mda runs better now than it did when it was new. Battery life improved, too. I am also a noob, and tried a couple others before I flashed this one...this worked best for me, since I didn't want to do all the tweaking (yet ) that more advanced users on this board know to do automatically.

Ok my IPL/SPL right now on my G3 device is 2.26. If I want the 3.08 can I go right to it or do I need to go down to the 1.05? To go from the XM6r3 to XM6r5 what do I need to do? Should I just be able to go straight to that? It already CID unlocked and stuff for the current version I am on. Just confused on how to go from what I have now to the new one.
Thanks in advance!
Please Help
Ughh. Just went to XM6r5 and I have the same exact problems.....
Battery life still terrible. When I was done reflashing I was at 97% and after going through the settings without one phone call or text its already at 87%
The WLAN is still not working. Go to the Comm. Manager, click on WLAN, the windows loading icon comes up like its going to turn on, the windows loading icon goes off and the WLAN never turns on.
MMS messaging still says "error syncronizing"
Still on the 2.26 ROM
BUMP. Battery went down 6% in 10 minutes.... Is there a way I can just get back to WM5?
Oops, double post.

For the quick fix I don't use MMS that much but I know that I can with your help.
SOLVED - I ended up flashing to the 1.64.08.21 Radio, then Dutty's Latest. Now GPS works. WEIRD!!!!
Hello,
Back story: I'm running Q-Mobile 1.2, all is well, GPS works fine because I used it all the time. Then I had family in town, took some photos using the GPS photo option, didn't work. I filled it away under the curious and just got around to testing.
GPS Test now can't find my device, keeps reading "Searching for GPS Device", HTC GPS Testing tool just stares blankly at me like I have the answers.
Live search GPS doesn't work.
Google Maps GPS doesn't work.
What I've done to try and fix:
I reflashed the 1.27.14.09 radio... didn't change anything.
I reflashed the entire Q-Mobile Rom... didn't change anything.
I tried Dutty's new WM 6.1 Rom... didn't change anything.
I tried Alex's ROM... didn't change anything.
Tried the "new" AT&T Rom from the HTC site... didn't change anything.
I'm back to Q-Mobile, still doesn't work.
There is no reason why the GPS should not be working, the phone hasn't been physically damaged in anyway, everything else works fine.
I'm at my wits end, I need some outside help/guidance. Can ANYONE please help? Everything I've searched for and come up with so far hasn't worked.
As always, any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!
thats funny, because my GPS has been randomly working and not working these past few days....2 days ago it wouldnt pick up a signal at all, yesterday very strong signals, today, dead again......not sure whats wrong...
This is strange.... because a friend just lost his GPS also. He's using a 6.0 based ROM with various radios tested.
He's using a Tilt varient.
Could this be some sort of AT&T issue?
(I run the same ROM as him -I flashed it myself- and am also on AT&T with no problems.... yet)
GPS seems to be location dependent.
But here's my thought : if you want to use WM 6.0 then flash to Radio 1.27.
For WM 6.1 then flash to Radio 1.58.
Don't forget to change the Quick GPS Region in registry & then run it.
Hope that can help.

my region is set to US in the registry.....not sure that its the problem, because it worked perfectly fine w/ these settings before...
Yeah, my GPS as well. At first i worked perfectly. I used Google map and locate me, I show the exact position where I was. Then yesterday and today, my point have been moved further where I'm. And then I tried TOMTOM, and the performance is kinda slowe than before.
I'm using Radio 1.64.08.21, and UDK-7 R2
okay so i just went out to test it again, and ran GPS tool at 4800. I let it go for 2-3 minutes and eventually, it found a fix on about 12 satallites. after that, tom tom locked my location really fast, like a charm.....
give that a try.....if you just flashed, initial gps fix might take some time...
Alright, I'm going to try Dutty's latest again, only this time w/ the 1.64.08.21 radio... I'll see if that matters. I'll post when done.
UPDATE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365058
I installed the ROM on this thread as a test. ROM sucks bizzalls, but GPS Test if finally working! I'm going to flash Dutty's latest overtop, it should keep the radio but put his ROM down. More to follow.

Please post the registry string that changes the demobraphics to the US. Thanks.
Do we have a listing of these location codes as the US is a big place and it might have more than 1 code depending on location.
Can people post what they have in the registry of:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS]
The value of :
"region"="--"
I tried GB in mine (United kingdom) as another user (Dutch had reported using NL in theirs and GB is our equivalent. It definately seemed to lock faster.
I am using Dutty's latest rom and the region was Blank in after the flash, hard reset and setup.
Does the quick gps download different data depending on region or does it download all of them but start the search based on which should be the closest satellites based on the location setting in the registry. I presume once it has gained its locks it remembers for next time. (I think this remembered data is valid for 4 hours).
There are only about 28 satellites in total and up to a maximum of eight to eleven depending on time a(s the satellites are not geostationary) being visible at one time

I used Dutty's WM6.1, ran QuickGPS then got a fix (took very long the first time) ... now my registry says Region=US
I noticed that there is another key that might be of interest:
curRegion = 0 (00000000)
Could this be current Region?
I've changed the region in the registry from "--" to "SE" (Sweden), but the string won't stay put. After a reboot and running QuickGPS, it goes back to "--". I've tried waiting a couple of hours after editing and holding the power button to shut down, but it doesn't help. I made a little MortScript and added it to startup:
Code:
While (1)
WaitFor ("QuickGPS", -1)
If NOT regKeyEqualsString ("HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region", "SE")
RegWriteString ("HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region", "SE")
EndIf
Sleep (10000)
EndWhile
This works and keeps the "SE"-setting, but having the script running constantly isn't exactly optimal as it uses processing power (around 4% currently) and thus adding to battery-drain. Anyone have any ideas on a different way of making the script, which is more effective/power-saving? Or is there an even better way to make the registry key stick?
I am having some GPS issues as well but not as bad as GPS not working. Two problems have been bugging me: Getting a slow GPS fix and my location seems offset. I am using CoPilot Live 7 for my navigation software. It shows me a little bit 'off' from my current location. I am using 1.58.26.20 radio. Should I change my radio? Do I have to change the radio first and then reflash Dutty again?

That's interesting, mine says US but "1" for the numeric one.
