rom vs extended rom - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

hi,
a'm afraid this is quite a newbe question but can someone plz advise if i understand correctly?
rom = lets say the operating platform?
extended rom = all the progs running under the operating platform?
And can i install just any extended rom on my G4 to run under the faria rom?
last, but not least, what are the differences between the different roms around?
many thanks
Rgds
Patrick

about ROMs - you will have sleepless night i think...
touch made things unclear, search for previous wave productions to be ..sure.
ROM contains OS, extended ROM is way to make last minute additions/corrections, but is is used rarely(no clear method for full use) novadays..
Kitchens made extrom extinct legacy method, i think it is not good idea - extrom may be EXTREMLY useful, if cooks think bout it as VERY good software(ROM) update method - it is unlcear, how to handle extROM operations....personally i will be glad, if someone write post about real usability of this thing(flashing, redirection of autorun.txt, etc).
For start, just ignore EXTrom thing.
sorry for LQ english..

Yes, that's what I'm wondering too, can someone please tell us what's the best english rom out for this phone?
I guess we all are on same boat, trying to find the best available ROM for prophet after WWE offcial ROM as its been quite a while for offcial ROM upgrade for this device.
Check the FTP
There are several cooked ROMS avail. There are several 2.3 versions, and the 3.2 Beta is also out. Do a search. As for which is the best, it depends entirely on you. What I do is READ & READ, until I get an overall sense which is the fastest, most stable etc. In the end, what many people say is best for them, may not be good for you.
But like you, I've been usin the Dopod official ROM since May, and feel it's time to inject new life into my device.
If anyone care to give a short review of the ROMs they've tried in this thread (or make a new one), it'll definitely help a lot of people...
If you love aku2.0 customized rom in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269313, I bet you like this AKU2.3 customized rom.
ftp:/ /xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Prophet/Prophet-roms/RUU_Prophet_G3_2151327_AKU23_023021_P12MB_Dopod_PDAMobiz_v103.rar
(To download above link, copy url to your browser, delete space between ftp:/ /)
Software listed pictures check at http://www.pdamobiz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=60019
It's AKU2.3 with extended rom as same as v.1.02, fast and stable.
================================================
But if you would like lots of application, check at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277474 (MMS missing, but can be get in that thread)
See the pictures here http://www.pdamobiz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=68751
You may choose 8mb or 12mb (less problem from users feed back).
16Mb_AKU2.3_GSM02.30.21_Extrom-4PDA.ru.exe
I am using 4PDA/Frog's 2.3 ROM from the FTP site. Its fast and stable. The problem I had with the PDAMobiz rom was its full of stuff and made to device slow, also it reset sometimes on its own. Also the backlight would come on for no reason.
I have tryed all the ROM's from the FTP site and this is the best IMHO.

hello,
is it possible to update an G4 Device by copy the nk.nbf file from the above package to a "G4 Rom" and replace the existing nk.nbf?
For example in the RUU_Prophet_2151327_21513121_021921_DOP_ASIA_WWE_Ship-NoVendorID Rom?

If you do not really know about it, don't try. Because it might be a possibility to break you prophet, if that nk.nbf has spl 2.xx.0000 inside.
Use itsme pdocwrite to upgrade to G4 by replacing ru.nb with your new os rom. (you have to use command "typho5.exe -x -v nk.nbf" at dos prompt to extract os-rom, check at ftp for typho5.exe tools)
Upgrade utility is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277474 (look for upgrade for G4)
someone could make about the Roms a sticky thread here. Which is aswell updated

Best ROM for Prophet (M600?)
well I can't really answer that can I but I can report the following.
I started off with the Orange oem ROM. Quickly I decided I wanted to get rid of this as I'm not with Orange (and I'm an incessant tinkerer), so I went for the RUU_Prophet_2151327_21513121_021921_DOP_ASIA_WWE_Ship-NoVendorID.
My phone was unlocked using the IMEI-CHECK service (so not sure what they unlocked exactly but it seems happy for me to re-flash it).
I ran with this ROM for maybe 2 months- no real problems BUT I really missed the voice speed dial.
A couple of days back I went for the 16Mb_AKU2.3_GSM02.30.21_Extrom-4PDA.ru.exe
This seems to be stable so far, a "bit" more responsive maybe, but with the unexpected bonus of having voice speed dial again!!! Yes, this ROM has voice speed dial - hoorah.
So for any of you old Orange M600 users who upgraded but lost the voice speed dial this could be for you.
I've not spotted any major problems at all. The only odd thing was that the COMM Manager hard key was not bound. A 2 sec job to fix that.
Now I did do a soft reset before letting the hard reset process finish with the customisations. No idea what happens there in this case.
I <believe> my phone is G3?? The IPL is 0000 - is that correct?? I read and checked everything I could and it seems to have turned out OK.......
Is there any way that someone could do up a quick, idiot proof tute on how to update your rom on a G4 device?
Also, is this AKU2.3 rom 16Mb_AKU2.3_GSM02.30.21_Extrom-4PDA.ru.exe in russian or english? The website link which shows the AKU2.0 version is all in russian...
Thanks guys (from another n00b)

Possible to make your own ROM ?

Hey!
I was wondering if it was possible to make you own rom ? I mean.. For an example take the WM6 Smart1 rom for the Qtek S200 and then take some apps and put them inside the rom so they installs with the rom when that intalls? And maybe define some settings like GPRS settings, so they allready are configured when the rom is just installed?
Thank you!
~D
yes it is possible, there are tutorials within the threads for each device, probably titled 'cook your own rom' or something similar. i assume it's different for each device due to hardware differences so there is no generic solution
Okay thanks for answer !
I have been searching the forums and found some usefull stuff i think.. But as i see it, it looks to advanced for me .. Afraid of bricking my phone ! Have just installed WM6 on my prophet and that allmost made me sick because i was afraid of bricking my phone..
So maybe cooking is a bit to advanced for me..
Unless there is a more simple way ?
no it's complicated, try looking for extended rom cooking it may be simpler

[HELP], how to port rom?

I ever customized several wizard roms, but regarding porting ROM, I'm a newbie.
Let's think about two scenarios:
1. If I got an AKU 3.x ROM of other phone, i.e., a ROM of Artemis
2. If I got a WM6 ROM of other phone which version is newer than any current known ROMs, i.e., a Hermes WM6 ROM
If I want to port the ROM to run on a wizard, what are the most important files, modules, drivers or something like XIP section we need to port? are there any different steps when porting within those two scenarios? Will somebody make a brief introduction or write a tutorial here?
Bepe, mUn, Faria and other talent guys, I know you're expert on this, please show me your hands and help on this, thank you.
I am too learning this ... seems pretty tricky if not near impossible without proper XIP section. Meaning that if you want to port WM6 to a device that didn't had a WM6 it's impossible ... or very close to that.
Take this as an example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1243434&postcount=172
Not the actual files, those are device specific (xip.bin for example) but a little guide.

I agree. It is time to upgrade my friend... There are so many roms out there that are almost 100% stable with everything working and not all of them include all of the extra crap either... If you wanted to keep the same general look going on and not the touchflo if thats what you're trying to avoid, then look into some of the professional roms instead of the touch roms.
A good example is TNT5.0 Professional. It has all the amendaties of WM5 but also supports all of the WM6 software.
...Thats my opinion anyway
I have
I've updated to WM6 many times with multiple roms, but they tend to lag in performance. Though one rom looks promicing is this one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=331812
BUT! It's a Hermes rom and I have no Idea how to flash that onto a wizard. So instead of risking my Wizard to brick, I was hoping someone could possibly patch those cabs for WM5.
If anyone is looking for a little project, please patch those cabs on the first post.
Thank you
i use TNE with over clocking, with no problems. just as fast as wm5 if not faster.
touch no evil.
and dont flash a wm6 rom that wasnt built for the wizard.

give this rom a try. It was originally made by its right but I personally modified it to have a larger page pool and is quite fast.
It is a touchflo rom though... Not sure how fond you are of those style roms...

???????????
Well does anyone just have the base WM6 rom that I can flash? Nothing custom, just the standard, factory WM6 rom? Cuz that would be the only way I would be willing to upgrade. If not then I just want the cabs to work on WM5.

Well there is TNT Official... It's the closest to an actual OFFICIAL Wizard WM6 rom as you are going to get...
Install that(it is CLEAN, nothing on it really) and you can install anything you want if you're not interested in a custom rom.
You could also give this a once over...

need WM6.5 ~28mb ram

Hi, first of all sorry for next "what rom is best?" question, I know there are lot of that topics.
I need fast WM6.5 ROM with around ~28/29mb of free RAM on 64mb Uni .
Good if it will be one of Beta builds but probalby it's impossible to get that amount on only 64mb RAM. So one choice is that with bars placed same like in WM6.1 and older. Must be WWE lang.
Thanks
I don´t think you´ll find a 6.5 ROM with such free RAM (but if you do, please let me know )
Your best option will be on 6.1 with thingonaspring lotsa RAM V1.1
Have a look here for the available Universal ROM´s:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5020953&postcount=4
I've seen 6.5 ROM with QuickMenu on it and it was probably Luca16's ROM that had 27mb ram free but can't find it now I think it was that one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479465 .
Already I use goldrake WM6.1 because it have much free Ram too, battery life is good (on LotsaRAM battery drained much faster ) and is stable. Maybe I will be back to it but now I want some graphics oriented ROM :] WM6.5 is pretty for that

would you give us a litle review please
right now i'm using luca15thebig:

yes it has 30mb free after reset and then going to 28mb.
ROM that Win_XP posted is very nice and fast too. Battery life for me is even batter than on Goldrake's ROM but he's WM6.1 is nice too. I'm coming to try luca's ROM now
thank for info ... i try to download pdaViet right now
Hello,
I'm downloading pdaviet rom now, but i can't understand nothing from pdaviet.net!! It's for G3 64mb universal?? It's in English? Some image caps?
I'm a little scared...
hallo gcp72, don't worry, it's in english
my uni is G4, so i think it will work for G3 too.
i'm not a rom expert but i think this rom is similiar with luca15thebig but more clean, no chome and no titanium.
i has a little problem here, the flash light for camera is keep turning on, but i think it's my hardware problem
other thing is running well, thanks to pdaViet
Hi all,
Can any one show me how to remove some applications in Rom WM 6.5?
Uninstall them?!
I think he meant how to remove apps that are default in cooked ROM included by cook not installed by him.
Ah, oh I see.
You can't remove apps from a ROM.
If you don't want to see them, just delete the shortcut from "\Windows\Start Menu\" folder.
The only way to remove apps from a ROM is to re-cook it yourself. If the cook supplies their kitchen, this is the easier way. Take a deep breath before you think about cooking
