Yes, that's what I'm wondering too, can someone please tell us what's the best english rom out for this phone?
I guess we all are on same boat, trying to find the best available ROM for prophet after WWE offcial ROM as its been quite a while for offcial ROM upgrade for this device.
Check the FTP
There are several cooked ROMS avail. There are several 2.3 versions, and the 3.2 Beta is also out. Do a search. As for which is the best, it depends entirely on you. What I do is READ & READ, until I get an overall sense which is the fastest, most stable etc. In the end, what many people say is best for them, may not be good for you.
But like you, I've been usin the Dopod official ROM since May, and feel it's time to inject new life into my device.
If anyone care to give a short review of the ROMs they've tried in this thread (or make a new one), it'll definitely help a lot of people...
If you love aku2.0 customized rom in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269313, I bet you like this AKU2.3 customized rom.
ftp:/ /xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Prophet/Prophet-roms/RUU_Prophet_G3_2151327_AKU23_023021_P12MB_Dopod_PDAMobiz_v103.rar
(To download above link, copy url to your browser, delete space between ftp:/ /)
Software listed pictures check at http://www.pdamobiz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=60019
It's AKU2.3 with extended rom as same as v.1.02, fast and stable.
================================================
But if you would like lots of application, check at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277474 (MMS missing, but can be get in that thread)
See the pictures here http://www.pdamobiz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=68751
You may choose 8mb or 12mb (less problem from users feed back).
16Mb_AKU2.3_GSM02.30.21_Extrom-4PDA.ru.exe
I am using 4PDA/Frog's 2.3 ROM from the FTP site. Its fast and stable. The problem I had with the PDAMobiz rom was its full of stuff and made to device slow, also it reset sometimes on its own. Also the backlight would come on for no reason.
I have tryed all the ROM's from the FTP site and this is the best IMHO.

hello,
is it possible to update an G4 Device by copy the nk.nbf file from the above package to a "G4 Rom" and replace the existing nk.nbf?
For example in the RUU_Prophet_2151327_21513121_021921_DOP_ASIA_WWE_Ship-NoVendorID Rom?

If you do not really know about it, don't try. Because it might be a possibility to break you prophet, if that nk.nbf has spl 2.xx.0000 inside.
Use itsme pdocwrite to upgrade to G4 by replacing ru.nb with your new os rom. (you have to use command "typho5.exe -x -v nk.nbf" at dos prompt to extract os-rom, check at ftp for typho5.exe tools)
Upgrade utility is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277474 (look for upgrade for G4)
someone could make about the Roms a sticky thread here. Which is aswell updated

Best ROM for Prophet (M600?)
well I can't really answer that can I but I can report the following.
I started off with the Orange oem ROM. Quickly I decided I wanted to get rid of this as I'm not with Orange (and I'm an incessant tinkerer), so I went for the RUU_Prophet_2151327_21513121_021921_DOP_ASIA_WWE_Ship-NoVendorID.
My phone was unlocked using the IMEI-CHECK service (so not sure what they unlocked exactly but it seems happy for me to re-flash it).
I ran with this ROM for maybe 2 months- no real problems BUT I really missed the voice speed dial.
A couple of days back I went for the 16Mb_AKU2.3_GSM02.30.21_Extrom-4PDA.ru.exe
This seems to be stable so far, a "bit" more responsive maybe, but with the unexpected bonus of having voice speed dial again!!! Yes, this ROM has voice speed dial - hoorah.
So for any of you old Orange M600 users who upgraded but lost the voice speed dial this could be for you.
I've not spotted any major problems at all. The only odd thing was that the COMM Manager hard key was not bound. A 2 sec job to fix that.
Now I did do a soft reset before letting the hard reset process finish with the customisations. No idea what happens there in this case.
I <believe> my phone is G3?? The IPL is 0000 - is that correct?? I read and checked everything I could and it seems to have turned out OK.......
Is there any way that someone could do up a quick, idiot proof tute on how to update your rom on a G4 device?
Also, is this AKU2.3 rom 16Mb_AKU2.3_GSM02.30.21_Extrom-4PDA.ru.exe in russian or english? The website link which shows the AKU2.0 version is all in russian...
Thanks guys (from another n00b)

Hi,
I'm confused with the mass of information and complicated procedures I found here. :?
I got a HTC Magician here in Switzerland by Orange (known as SPV M500)
Operator version is: 6.06.5.164
ROM version: 1.06.00 WWE
Radio Version: 1.05.10
Protocol version 1337.39
ExtROM version: 1.06.164 WWE
I surely would like to improve the performance and especially the internal' memory by applying some upgrade.
Could a nice person guide me toward best possible solutions, please?

Thanks; I checked this link, but except some valuable information, I found the whole thing even more tough to understand. I'm not an engineer, I'm just looking for a helping hand.
So I reiterate. Can anyone answer my question?
I'll have a go:
Upgrade your ROM. Yours is about 1.06, current is 1.12 (or 1.13? Not much differnce).
Ensure there is a language version the same as yours, and then upgrade. That's a complicated enough procedure, but follow the instructions carefully provided with the ROMs and you'll be ok.
The upgrade for more memory, is the BigStorage ROM hack. This will replace the area on your phone known as "Extended Memory", and convert it into more useful "Storage" that you can use. Basically, your phone gains 20mb of usable space. I've written an ENORMOUS post about this here (near the bottom of the screen)
To do BigStorage, you should use a tool floating around on the board that will patch ANY rom to BigStorage. That way, you can hack your own ROM for this. This is important because the first 400bytes or so of your ROM are unique to you, and you want to keep that. So I recommend:
1. Backup your PPC with Sprite backup or similar.
2. Upgrade your ROM to 1.12 (public sources or from the XDA Developers FTP site).
3. Make a backup of your ROM (optional, but advised).
4. Apply the BigStorage ROM hack.
You may be able to skip 4 if you can find the ROM you want at (2) already hacked. This is likely. But whatever you do, follow the instructions provided carefully. There are a couple of errors that are SUPPOSED to come up in the procedure. Read the instructions and you'll know what's supposed to happen.
Phew. It takes some learning, but you'll get there.
V
Hi Vijay,
You're great, many many thanks!! I assume I got a tough way to go. So I'll do it slowly so as to avoid mistakes.
My device' language is English, so no prob to upgrade with English. Now I guess I'll have to install manually the GPRS and WAP' parameters after upgrading, given the ROM does not come from my operator, isnt'it?
Orange M500 Upgrade
Hello. I too am thinking about upgrading my Orange M500 from 1.06.00 to the latest ROM. I have an Orange UK version of the phone. But 2 problems:
1. I have trawled all sites I can think of (including this one) and can't find an appropriate upgrade file anywhere - is anyone able to post a link?
2. I can't find anywhere that tells me what the advantages of upgrading are! Anyone fancy listing them?
Thanks!

Same here, I could not find information on what is improved (or not) with any of the existing ROM upgrades.
Surely they must be UP, but still it's strange there's no comment.
vijay555,
I am also fairly new with updating roms and such but I did manage to complete an update with the help of this amazing site and all of you guys out there. Your knowledge and advice has been wonderful and I thank all of you. Now, here is my question. I have a TMobile MDA from Germany I believe but with ROM ver 1.12.00WWE
Rom date 05/28/05
Radio ver 1.13.00
Potoc ver 1337.43
ExtRom ver 1.12.128 WWE
I have wanted to try the bigstorage rom but in reading all the posts and helpers I feel it is too much for me to copy to SD and yada yada yada. Am I understanding you correctly in assuming that in the xda FTP I would find a pre made bigstorage rom that I could upgrade onto my unit. I understand that I would probably have to re upgrade my radio unless there was a BS rom that had the latest radio in it. Would I be able to ask you that if I am right in assuming this do you know which of the roms I would use in the FTP site to give me that pre made BSrom and which "make" would or should I use(such as O2, orange) I line in Victoria, BC, Canada but I dont think that affects what "make" I should use, or does it? Sorry this is so long winded and I thank you in advance for your help.
Todd
I am using my Xda neo (flashed with traditional chinese version ROM, version 5.1.195(build 14847.2.0.0).
I believe I am using AKU2 and am wondering if this is the right time to upgrade to AKU3?
I have some questions:
1. What is "G3", "G4"? How can I know which one my Xda neo is?
2. I saw "AKU3 rom" with many different "'pool size". What they mean?
3. Any complete one-stop AKU3 package/procedures which I can just download and follow, in order to upgrade my Xda neo to AKU3?
Any BAD effect for AKU3 has been known on Xda neo so far?
Thanks
When your phone starts up you can see IPL and SPL at the boot screen, if it ends with .0001 then you have a G4 and when it does not you probably have a G3. Example: 2.15.0001 = G4
You cannot put a rom for G3 on a G4 and vice versa, it will brick your phone.
And I can't really comment which ROM is better since I'm still searching for a good ROM myself The AKU 3.2 seems to have some buggies, although the AKU 2.3 seems to be quite stable (reading from other people their comments).
As for pool size, I quote:
The large the paging pool is, the more code pages can present in RAM simultaneously -> the less loads from slow ROM -> the faster the device is.
Click to collapse
It seems they come with all different pool sizes. My guess is they cost some memory to gain some speed. But I have also read some people had some problems with the bigger pool size. So I guess you might wanna do a search for that.
And as for your question 3. I'm still trying to figure that out myself.
I know I have a G4 device, the IPL/SPL = 2.10.0001 but still I'm not quite sure which version is the best to use. e.g. the pdamobiz version says it's for 2.15.0001, it's for G4 but does that work on my device? I have no idea lol
And it also seems the Wiki isn't fully complete in that perspective. Once I know more I surely will try to update the wiki.
G4 roms on G3 device..?
Quote: Since HTC issued new IPL/SPL version 2.xx.0001, all tools that we use to cook the customize rom to be a single nk.nbf file can not be used because nk.nbf structure are different from the previous version. We were trying to hard to solve the problem. Futunately, we found the new method that save and convenince, because it will not touch with bootloader. Just active sync prophet with pc then run UPGRADE_ROM.bat.
This method can be used with any version of IPL/SPL of SPV M600, Qtek S200, i-mate JAMin, Dopod 818 Pro, XDA neo. Need not to unlock CID.
This is from the PDAmobiz thread, and if I get it right it says that you can install any rom (G3 or G4) on both G3 and G4 devices, if you just follow their instructions..
Is this true? Cause im thinking about trying their rom on my G3 device..
Can you upgrade a G3 to a G4 bootloader?
Thanks
Well, that is what I'm trying to figure out too It says so on their website although some confirmation about that might be nice.
And the filename of that ROM says it's for 2.15.0001. But I have no idea they named it like that to show it's for G4's or it's only for 2.15.0001 if you know what I mean.
And no, you cannot upgrade G3 to G4 bootloader as far as I know.
It would be really nice to know..
Im tried the "16Mb_AKU2.3_GSM02.30.21_Extrom-4PDA.ru.exe" ROM and it was really nice and fast.. Unfortunately it turned itself off in the middle of the night after just 2 days, and I can't afford to loose an important call (from work or whatever)..
Therefore im looking for a stable and still fast ROM that will work on my G3..
Just trying to speed things up...
I agree with the sentiments of Reef exactly. I am using the official I-mate ROM for my G3 Jamin. I would love to increase the speed of my device and decrease boot time from a soft reset. The 3.2 ROMs are tempting, but clearly have some showstopper problems. I was about to download and flash the 16MB AKU2.3 rom, but reading this thread stopped me. I am on call and rely on my phone 24/7.
I guess I have the same questions as Reef: Is there a rock-stable, fast 2.3 ROM with the paging file modification out there?
Is I-mate ever going to release an "official" upgraded ROM?
Does anyone have some more feedback on the cooked ROMs they're using?
Alan
At the moment I'm running AKU 2.3 with Radio ROM 2.30.21, G4 Device. And I must say it's very stable. Didn't even have to reset device yet.
I'm using: "PDAMobiz Editon Upgrade Rom for SPL 2.15.0001 v2307 - 16MB" from PDAMobiz.
Did try the AKU3 but I have to try to get it to work savely on my device, so for the moment I would say "no" to AKU3 for the Prophet...
Will test it for a week or so, will keep you all posted
By the way, as for the speed it's just slightly faster than my HTC Wizard with AKU3.2 both @ 240MHz But that could also be because of all the tweaks made to my Porphet. Will get back on this
Hi everyone. i know this has been hashed and rehashed but searching for it doesnt help and i cant find a solution for this:
i have a french orange spv m600 (just sim unlocked it, thanks lokiwiz!).
unfortunately it is in french and i would like it to be in english (basically english orange rom).
i have
IPL: 2.10.0001
SPL:2.10.0001
Radio Rom:02.07.20
OS:02.10.1.30
its not cid unlocked and since i think its a g4 chip, im very hesitant - i dont want to end up with a break - have no customer support to send to. i dont need a lot of functions.
by any chance anyone has a wwe orange rom around? would that work without cid unlocking?
thanks a lot for helping...
if anyone would like a dump of this french rom, let me know, with instructions how to do it, and ill help you out guys as well...
Thanks a lot for helping
Just take the no vendor id dopod rom wwe from the ftp. It worked great on my G4 SPV M 600. It has also been french.
you have a link?things get moved around very easily on that ftp thanks !
no thats fine, got it
question: how good is it?does it remove the cid unlock so that u can upgrade again afterwards?
what does this rom contain?

if i were you, i should take the new Qtek Rom:
ftp://[email protected]/Up...rophet_220734_2207114_024721_QtekWWE_Ship.exe
just download it, extract it with WinRar (i know it's a .exe file, but you can extract it) and replace the romupdateutility with this one:
ftp://[email protected]/Up...AKU2.3_LvsW_edition/ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe
copy the nk.nbf file in the same folder with the other files and just run the romupdateulityNo_Id.exe to update.
This Rom runs very stable and fast, much faster than the dopod one.
John
do either of those updates change the ipl/spl?no chance of them mismacthing right?

I haven't noticed any major speed improvement over the Dopod rom. Actually, my machine became slightly more unstable. Maybe it is only a software problem though. I have not reinstalled the applications that are running from the SD card, but I relied on a restore using sprite backup.

Hi guys, I am a new on ths forum and with te prophet. After using a hima for 3 years, I bought a prophet today. Since I was at wm2005 aku 3.5 with my hima, I cannot use my pim.vol any more with my current rom version, which is
Rom version 2.9.7.24 WWE
Rom date 2/9/2006
Radio 02.07.20
Protocol 413.1.03
Extrom 2.9.7.106
This is all new for me and I am hoping that someone could post me or PM me some advice on newer roms and how to upgrade. I also found a version with G3 or G4. What is the difference and what do I need to use.
This device works different, but it look very nice.
Can I re-use some of my old (hima) applications on this machine?
Thanks very much in advance. I hope to have as much pleasure on this forum as I had on the hima forum!
1. you can get some of the old apps working on wm5 devices, but not all of them.
2. check your device for G3-G4 issue here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=prophet_g3g4_how
3. good thing if you have time to read this: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Prophet
it will answer most of your questions on how to upgrade your ROM. read it three or four times: i'm not kidding - you may ruin your device if you miss something.
If I can hijack this thread for a second... is there any way to backup whatever ROM we have on a CID locked device? cause it seems kinda pointless to have to CID unlock the device (which involves FLASHING a completely new rom, overwriting the old), to open the backup feature at which point is useless since we've lost the original rom.

why not? just download your original ROM from this site or official site of qtek, jamin or whatever your device is.
afaik you CID unlock the device to be able to flash different ROMs (for example, to flash jamin with qtek ROM) and to be able to return back to your original ROM.
I see that the NVID rom is used a lot as a first step in flashing to WM6 roms. My Question is whether this rom is usable as the primary ROM? Or does it miss/lack a lot of things in the extRom that would normally get installed?
I'm planning to downgrade to WM5 after using WM6 for a while and deciding which rom to use. =)
Thanks,
Quick bump for weekend crew
no, this is a doctored rom for temp use only.
The PDAviet step 1 rom is the best one to use for the purpose of upgrading to wm6, even for non-PDAviet roms.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308266
You use the upgrade utility exe, in the extraction, that corresponds to either G3 OR G4, whatever device you have.
If you like to turn back to WM5, the best ROM every posted is the ASERG's one. Its 100% stable and you wont believe how fast it is. After testing all those WM6 ROMs i switched back to ASERGs ROM. its simply the best for using a "fast" prophet. All the WM6 roms become slower and slower with every new third-party software you install.
here is the post with the download links to the ASERG AKU3.3.13:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1179977&postcount=415
And here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292925&page=42&highlight=aserg.rar
Start reading all posts starting at the bottom with #415, somewhere it is explained how to downgrade. [dont ask me where it is exactly, the thread became to long and i dont like to search now , please do it on your own] the steps from this thread are working for the downgrade process from WM6 to ASERGs WM5.

Good to know that the NVID rom is not usable... I wonder what makes PDAVIET's step 1 rom better?
After there was no big improvement in the PDAViet 4.0000.3 ROM, I think i'll go back to the *old* dopod AKI 2.15 ROM since that rom doesn't have the slow SIP option bug... Thanks for the recommendation of ASERG's rom. I'll give it a try =)
I've been having a single serious problem with all the WM6 ROMs I've tried, as well as with Aserg's latest 3.3 ROM.
The phone will intermittently not recieve calls. The caller is quickly diverted to voice mail, and I get no ring, no notification of a missed call, and no message waiting indicator.
I have gone from Fantastic Mobitz 1.1i to PDAViet 4.0.0.0.3 to Aserg 3.3 without resolution. I have tried Radio ROMs 2.47.21, 2.61.21, and 2.69.21 without success in all of them.
At this point, I just want to downgrade to the latest shipped WWE ROM, which is AKU 2.2. As expected, it is removed from the xda-dev ftp site. I've googled the web, read the WIKI, and searched this site for a download link. Does anyone have a link to the AKU 2.2 WWE ROM?

That's the ROM I've been using myself for quite some time and has worked flawlessly for quite some time now. I can install and uninstall anything without discernible problems. I have more than 1500 SMS' saved without performance issues, and battery life is very good under normal usage (I also have batterystatus plug-in)
Recently I've been having problems but it probably is more related to the software I've been using (GPSProxy, Que)
