ActiveSync on Windows 2003 Server - General Topics

Hey
Does AS v4.5 support Windows 2003 Server? I have tried to install it on three different machines with no luck. It just refuses to install, with no error messages!!
Thanks

what about terminal services? isn't your server in terminal server mode? try to install activesync through "add or remove programs" control panel - using this method, terminal server is temporarily suspended, server switched to application mode and after installation, back to terminal server mode.
active sync has windows server 2003 listed as supported platform, so this is the only idea i have (have you checked eventlogs? if not, do it as first

i have tried that as well. I just checked Microsoft's website and Server 2003 SP2 is not listed... only SP1 is

Have you tried adding the install file for ActiveSync to the Data Execution Tab? (Right click on my computer, then go to properties, then under the advanced tab go to performance settings) I've found this to be the cause of allot of programs not installing/working properly on win2003 server. I have activesync working great with my tmobile wing under 2003 server sp2.

Support Code:85010014

I have a WM5 Device trying to sync with outlook and am getting this Support Code:85010014 when I select the view status link in Activesync (v4).
AS4 allows me to sync favorites and notes, but not contacts, calendar, email, and tasks. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
I solved my ActiveSync problem with Error 85010014.
I also run Eudora and Incredimail Plugin for Outlook on both PCs, Work and Home. Both are on XP Pro SP2 and when I installed ActiveSync 4.1 on my work PC without issue, I decided to attack my Home PC Outlook installation to see if I could resolve the issue.
So, At home:
Putting Outlook in Offline mode did not solve the problem.
I uninstalled ActiveSync 4.0 and installed ActiveSync 4.1 - No difference.
I backed up Outlook via 3rd party program to grab account settings as well as my 2GB pst file then ran Help->Detect and Repair... - reboot, no difference.
I then ran Control Panel -> Add or remove Programs -> Office 2003 and chose to modify my installation by adding or removing components. I unchecked Outlook and updated it to remove Outlook from my Office 2003 suite. Then returned to this option and re-checked Outlook to add it back to my Office 2003 Suite, CD-Rom in hand but updating, it did not ask for the Office 2003 Install CD-Rom... - Rebooted and connected - Bingo NO 85010014 error!
Before you re-install..
Are you using Outlook 2003 in "Offline" mode? If so, try running Activesync while CONNECTED to your Exchange server... This worked for myself and possibly a few others here.
Good luck! Hopefully you won't have to re-install Outlook which seems to be the ultimate fix.
Just checked the original post date... hope the original poster fixed the issue.

No, I don't use exchange. I realy hate outlook compared to Eudora for my needs. Mail accounts are on standard Unix POP/SMTP Servers. Outlook is forced due to contacts integration on PDAs.
Windows Mobile 5 Support Code: 85010014
I solved the same problem in a different way - On ActiveSync in the File menu there is an option to Delete Mobile Device. I picked that, deleted the device and then re-established the partnership between the mobile device and the PC. Sync started working perfectly right away.

Hi,
I have the same problem too. I just updated to ROM1.60c and ActiveSync 4.1 build 4807. When I try to sync, tt keeps giving me the error code 85010014.
The funny thing is, I have no problems syncing Notes from Outlook. But the other Outlook items like Contacts, Calendar and Tasks are not so lucky.
What's happening? I've already allowed the exceptions in my Windows Firewall...
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I had the same 85010014 problem when syncing on my BA. Typically I "Work Offline" with Outlook, since I'm on the road a lot.
The fix was to make sure I was connected to my Exchange Server the first time I sync-ed my PDA. In my case, I had to connect to my office through VPN and choose "Connect" when prompted after launching Outlook.
Hope this helps!
Hey kcchen,
Thanks once again! I replied in the other post already, but just wanna thank u again.

I keep getting an error message activesync encountered a problem on the desktop. Support Code 85010014 - no-one seems to know how to resolve this. other support groups say that there must be a coorupt file in outlook but even a clean re-install seems to come up with the same error. any ideas?
Thanks
did you try to 'detect and repair' in Outlook Help?
active sync problems with Outlook
Hi
thanks - I did a detect and repair which re-installed outlook, however, this apparently wasn't enough. I have now resolved the issue by going into add/remove programmes and clicking 'change', uninstalling, re-booting and re-installing outlook. This has now solved the problem! Thanks for the interest.
same error code
I received this error repeatedly until I connnected my laptop to the exchange server and ran Activesync at this point it all went well.
For the record, from http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm:
•If you are seeing the error 85010014 (a general error) then try uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook. The error in ActiveSync is actually from the Outlook APIs. You will need to reconfigure Outlook unless you backup your settings. To uninstall Outlook click on the Control Panel -> Add or remove Programs -> Office 2003 and chose to modify the installation by adding or removing components. Uncheck Outlook and updated it to remove Outlook from Office 2003. Then click on Office 2003 again and re-check the option to install Outlook to add it back to Office 2003. You may need your Office 2003 CD. Then reboot.
• If you are seeing the error 85010014 (a general error) and are using Exchange 2003 and folder redirection with Outlook, you may have to turn folder redirection off to sync or upgrade to ActiveSync 4.1.

Once again, the marvel that is Microsoft's shared programming responsibilities means that real world application in anything less than a 100% 'standard' environment results in all sorts of hideous problems. It's just like when I'm using IE to test my latest web pages, and I get adventurous and start using it for regular browsing too (mainly out of laziness), whenever it crashes most of the time it offers me a link to navigate to "for more information on how to prevent this problem" - and the web page usually says, "We have no information on the nature of this problem. Please try the Knowledge Base, or search for more information"... etc..... Why even bother.

Firewall..... XP SP2 included a Firewall which is on by default. ActiveSync should create the relevent execptions, however it would have prompted you to do so. If you said no to this then that will be your problem.
Go to Control Panel, Windows Firewall and look at the Exceptions Tab, there should be four entries for ActiveSync -
ActiveSync Application (C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\WCESMgr.exe)
ActiveSync Connection Manager (C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcescomm.exe)
ActiveSync RAPI Manager (C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\rapimgr.exe)
ActiveSync Service (TCP port 26675)
If these aren't there then it won't work. You could just try disabling the Firewall and see if ActiveSync starts to work to prove this before making Firewall changes.

If the Windows Firewall Icon is not displayed in control panel then either you have some other firewall installed and it has removed the Windows one or your PC has some policies applied preventing some control panel applets being displayed. Check if the file 'firewall.cpl' is in the "\Windows\System32" folder. Do you have 'Security Centre' in Control Panel? If you do you can access Firewall Settings from here I think?
Is your PC on a Domain? If it is might be Group Policy that is preventing it. You can do a lot with GP to lock-down what users can do.

I would uninstall the Trend stuff..... My ISP (BT in the UK) has various security add-ons all of which eat system resources like crazy. I installed them once, ended up re-formatting and rebuilding. Never installed them again. It's like the old AOL stuff - once its on there you will never get rid of it....
I suggest you re-install SP2 since this should install the Firewall & Security Centre. If it doesn't I am not sure?

That is so funny and sad at thesame time!
I've been in this battle with Activesync 4.5 couple of days without any clues yet!
I'm pissed of!
I've tried everything such as uninstall, install, uninstall, install...and got nothing!
I have no firewall installed. Only antivirus. No clues. I then post a question to MSDN Windows Mobile team and we are still lookin for a solution. Even if I disable network improvement in settings tab, it doesn't work.
So, I have to say that we are stuck on the same chip!
If I remember correctly, the latest build of Activesync 4.5 is compatible only with Outlook 2003 and newer even though the MS Description says XP is ok. I had the same problem previously.. upgraded to 2003 and presto...
Sometimes contacts do not sync,as there may be a contact with corrupt info, try to locate it and remove it,or backup/transfer all your contacts to your PC using PIMbackup and delete the contacts file/folder all together from your phone.Delete partnership both in PC and phone, work as 'Guest' and see if it works.
Or try out this entry,it helped me once, when I cudn't sync:-
Click Start > Run and type the following: Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\ole32.dll
Click OK
Reboot your PC.
Sync again.
Hope it'll solve the problem,
I wish that only contacts do not sync. In my case, the whole options under 4.5 are not working. I'm using Outlook 2007.
Still looking for a solution.....

EVEN IF U HAV WINDOWS XP SP2....install the SERVICE PACK 2 again....

Trend Micro & Activesync
Trend Micro Office Scan DOES NOT WORK with Activesync 4.5. Trend Micro themselves acknowledge this.
Not sure about PC-cillin, but Office Scan is architected in a way that means it just can't work with Activesync.
Trend Micro have announced a Beta in Oct/Nov that is claimed to resolve the problem.
Thanks mate, but I still haven't had a progress by doing that!
Dunno what else I can do it to sync.

I've had issues sync'ing with different WM6 builds. Can you back your data using PIMBackup and try a different cooked ROM? Unfortunately I did not spend a whole lot if time trying to fix the issue when I realized I could sync outlook2007/vista just fine using a different build.

PIMbackup will only backup your contacts and messages, but if you are interested to backup the whole dats and settings than try one of these :-
SPB Backup - http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?en
Sprite Backup - http://www.spritesoftware.com/pocketpc.php
Sunnysoft Backup Manager - http://www.sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=51
delete your current outlook mail profiles and delete your active sync profiles
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=772465&SiteID=17
may help.
Careful tho, cause I had somewhat the same problem, and now i just lost all my contacts on my phone, but active sync now syncs!

ActiveSync 4.5 does not support database synchronization

I need to synchronize my Touch Cruise with Microsoft Access on my PC desktop but who develops database (SprintDB, f.e.) writes me:
"there is no way to synchronize database files on Windows Mobile 6 because Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 does not support database sync"
It is unbelievable, my old pda with Palm OS (no Windows!) was more compatible with Microsoft that this one with Windows Mobile create by microsoft ????
There is some experienced that can help me to resolve this problem?
There's no Pocket Access, so what's the point in syncing it?
Unfortunately with the version 6 of Windows Mobile and 4,5 of Active Sync have disappeared Pocket Access what it converted the files .mdb in to .cdb
ActiveSync 4.1 (or maybe it was 4.0) supports database sync with WM2003. However, WM6 does not have the proper conduits, in fact no version has since WM2003. WM5 can be been hacked to support database syncing. So I assume WM6 can be too. I don't know this alone will do it, you may then have to hack ActiveSync 4.5 to include (if they are indeed excluded) whatever database conduits ActiveSync 4.1 and before have.
These instructions may apply to WM6 also. (Original thread can be found here: http://www.tierramapper.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10)
The following steps will enable Windows Mobile 5 devices using Active Sync 4.x to create Pocket Access (.cdb) databases by copying and pasting a PC Access database to an Active Sync connected Pocket PC device.
Microsoft, by default dropped this functionality when upgrading from PPC 2003 to Windows Mobile 5.0. The following will re-enable this feature.
*This procedure is only required for Windows Mobile 5.0 users.
1. Copy the 4 files in the http://www.TierraMapper.com/Downloads/WindowsMobile5PocketAccess.zip file to your Pocket PC in the \Windows directory.
2. Register the adosync.dll. From your Pocket PC, open File Explorer and navigate the \Windows\Regsvrce.exe file. Click on this file and type the full path to the adosync.dll, \Windows\adosync.dll, and click OK.
3. On the desktop, remove the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\SpecialDefaults\PocketPC04\Services\Synchronization\Objects\~MicrosoftTable
4. Disconnect and reconnect the PPC device before "Pocket Access" sync enabled.
You are now ready to copy an Access database to your Pocket PC and Active Sync will prompt you with the Pocket Access (.cdb) conversion dialog as in PPC 2003.

it's problematic when there are so many stronger database applications than Pocket Access such as Borland...

Could this be a similar issue for me?

Thank you.
Thank's Sonus but you write:
"3. On the desktop, remove the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\SpecialDefaults\PocketPC04\Services\Synch ronization\Objects\~MicrosoftTable "
but regretfully the key ~MicrosoftTable doesn't exist in my registries. I only find:
~Appointment
~Contact
~Merlin Mail
~Task
Media
Do I perhaps have to add it instead of removing it?
I have read the forum to the link tierramapper and TierraMa talk only about WM 5. I have WM6 instead.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I have the ~MicrosoftTable entry in my PC's registry. Don't create the entry though. Instead try following steps 1 and 2, make sure that the "Convert files when synchronized, copied, or moved" box is checked in ActiveSync "Tools>Advanced Tools>Edit File Conversion Settings..." and then copy an MS Access database file (*.mdb file) to your Touch Cruise using activesync. Report back to us as to whether or not you then get prompted to setup a database sync.

In order:
1. I have performed the points 1 and 2 correctly on device;
2. i have just flagged the "convert files" in "acive sync 4.5 build 5096;
3. in tools of Active Sync, for "microsoft Office Access Application" in the setting folder "conversione from PC to device" i see: type of file of PC = .mdb, type of file of device = .mdb (i try to modify in .cdb but it is no possible!);
4. with right click in setting icon "file" in Active Sync i added a sample of .mdb file microsoft access 2000/2003;
5. i can see this file in folder "C:\Documents and Settings\battocch\My Documents\HTC_P3650 My Documents\" on my desktop PC with XP;
6. i syncronize PC and device;
7. after syncronisation i see again the file .mdb in personal folder of PC but there is not anything in the device.
I try even to reinstall Active Sync but nothung it is changed.
Step 3 is the issue. Earlier versions of ActiveSync would allow for a conversion of mdb to cdb when copying database files. This would then allow for a sync relationship. My guess would be to try an earlier version of ActiveSync (4.1 or earlier)...
I haven't used it but Handbase appears to sync with access:
