"how to cook" and "how to build" are two different things, since you a programmer, which one did you mean?
I my self can only cook, not build...

For the T-Mobile Shadow users on the forum, have any of you been able to dump the rom?
If so, could you please post it in this thread?
If you haven't, try using these methods at your own risk:

Good luck to anyone that tries to do this!
Thanks!

How can the files from XIP (part00 & part01) be extracted?
i haven't tried it, but try using RomMaster and dumprom programs to extract the XIP partition
Oh hell jea
I frequently check out all the threads here concerning dumping shadow and this one is showing the most promise already; I don't have a T-mo shadow, but I'd love to have the theme for my Wizard. Good luck with this ****. (Would I be asking to much for some one to PM me when this is accomplished?)
I don't think that this will work on Wizard because this is a homescreen plugin for smartphones and will not work on ppc.
Also, I've tried that plugin on my Tornado, but I didn't get it to work.
I don't know. I just want to give it a try. It will be a while because I've got finals coming up again I'm guessing you could still do it with the hard buttons.
if anyone interested, I uploaded an imagefs rom in xda ftp. Its in smartphone/phobeus/ folder. I also included all the necessery files to start modding.
thanks for this! I finally have some time to start on this and hope to do so immediately!
can any Shadow user help me with this matter

Everyday i'm looking thru this forum trying to figure out how to cook roms.
I'm sure there are others out there trying to do the same. All im finding are kitchens and easybakeovens.
I really need help trying to become a cook like ttran itje ivan etc. or even better.
I made this thread to put all the links and all the programs needed to do this in on place.
If your willing to help herald please contribute we need more COOKS!!
Just to have more varieties of roms thanks
I have looked and haven't found much... and what I have found is very vague if that.
On top of that when I try to take a part someone elses rom's I always get errors and such.
Be nice if we got help.
What the hell doews IVAN released his Easy bake oven!!! Please do not use it for cooking! It MIGHT work!
hahahaha. lol sorry. But that would be the first way tos tart. clean rom ... kitchen... an dall OEm packs needed.....
good luck
Ivan's Easy Bake Oven is great.... if you can get it to work properly... of course it is called easy bake oven so its user friendly but I want something more advanced... you try to tell me you use that to build all your rom's?
Until he comes out with his new oven I am stuck using the redclean boot screen and all the apps he has in the sys folder because no one tells you what to do and what not to do.

To help the original poster I have found another kitchen besides ivan's that is also in beta. It amy be easier but I have not fully played with it.
check it out here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371852
A lilttle hard to find since its not where you would expect it.
there are:
anichillus: hypercore -- have a look deepen in Herald Mobile 6
bepe: most used kitchen
www.ppckitchen.com
VisualROmstudio... but i guess it is still in process....
hypercore is really messed up on vista, visual rom studio won't let me edit the OS, bepe is confusing as all heck, looking at ppckitchen now.
Thanks for the list. There is also a new HTC Rom image editor in the development forum but its beta and I get errors with it too LOL
there will be hypercor II based complete on flash programing.. looking really sweet.....
but we have to wait..

Hmm.. that one looks extremely complicated. I know how to extract the dump with imgfs but not sure what to do after that... everyone says use bepe's kitchen but... that doesn't help since his kitchen doesn't really have instructions on what to do. I have tried to merge the JustClean rom from the easybakeoven with other roms and still no luck.
I have even tried the package tool... and it doesn't create any packages so not sure what the point is.
It would be nice if someone could respond with info that would help us in some way.
I have found the issue with creating packages... its with ASerg's recent ROM
The other ROM I liked and wanted to merge (Touch IT 7.0) works great now except for some missing files... the RGU files seem to be missing for half the stuff but the ROM is not yet complete so I understand.
I have asked ASerg and a couple others for OEM and SYS folders with no luck so I guess I am out.
OK. I'm working on a port of PPCkitchen for these ROMs. If you want, I'll post a step by step on how to cook from scratch, all the way to creating packages, etc. I also created an unreleased EasyPortKitchen so that you can port things. But truly, the best to learn is the way we all learned, trial and error. While trying to do one thing, you learn 20. Mind you... I have VERY limited time... And Just2Clean is almost done.

WOW... you do alot IVAN.
And you are completely correct every time you learn how to do one thing right... you also learn how to do that same thing wrong.
I think it would be nice to have at least some help... I finally figured out some of the issues but still since there is no documentation to any of the tools its hard to "seek help" Its not like a car or computer where you have an instruction manual and you just choose not to use it.

ivan no rush whenever you have time. I understand you have other projects neoobs and I maybe others would be glad if there was a step by step guide. I would love to learn on my own like you and others but somethings are very confusing.

I call it FrankenKitchen!

and any OEM packages.
or you if could place links of where you got everything
that would be nice. Thanks for your help!!

oooo not a good first post... good luck sir
this dutty latest
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398271
but please read the wiki and gweni before flashing.
Hi,
Since you are new to the PDA arena and also this site, I would seriously recommend waiting untill you have gained some knowledge and understanding of how your device works.
Read the Wiki as advised above and digest as much information and terminology as possible.
We are all here to help, some of us Developers and others power users, but you will find that everyone has started at the same place as you.
Whilst every effort is made by the Developers here to avoid problems whilst flashing/upgrading your devices software, problems are inevitable from time to time, so it is important that you read and understand as much information as you can before upgrading your device, if things do go wrong, the worst thing you can do is panic. Stay calm, have a read and search through the forums for similar issues and then make a post.
Please read the Wiki here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
and I would then advise, when you are ready, to try Leo's latest Rom, Dutty has been very busy of recent and has not released a new Rom for a while (although his work is very good)

Beasty

There are so many things wrong with your post ... but i won't waste time on counting them ... here is what you need to do:
1) read the kaiser wiki
2) read the kaiser wiki's section on rom upgrading and flashing
3) read about Hardspl ... make sure you get this before you fflash any roms to your device.
4) research and understand what flashing is and what happens to your phone when you flash.
5) download the rom and flash to your phone after establishing pc connection.
Oh and since you asked such a redundant question i am sure a mod will close this thread ... considering you didn't bother reading the below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397434
or this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
or this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#Tools
read them before you mess up your device

On the contrary. Dutty just released a ROM a few days ago, and has promised V2 of that ROM soon.

Thanks for your advice guys, i'm totally new to this just didn't know where to start...So i'll take your advice and disgest all the information i can in the next couple of weeks to get a better understanding - before i do anything to my device. I'm sorry that my post sounded so lame, i just needed telling straight as i wasn't confident of what i was doing to be honest...
Thanks for you time in replying...
So, there are so many people making really good roms now. even i want to try now
So how do you start cooking roms? or start making themes?
What software is needed? Do you need eclipse? Do you just need a file manager and an unzip utility?
Has anyone created a tutorial on cooking a rom?
I have some skill with android, and am pretty good and flashing and stuff, I wouldnt mind adding root a build that I like or taking something else out. Maybe add an app to the image, or add an option to my recovery image.
Where do I start?
