these 10 pictures were done at the same time, both the XDA2i and Nokia 6630 was set to the largest size picture, and auto everything else.
and here is the results
John
This reaaaaaally needs sorting on the 2i.
The outside ones aren't too bad, in fact colour wise the auto settings seem more lifelike than the Nokia. However, the devil's in the detail on the outside ones and the 2i pics are so fuzzy compared to the Nokia...have you tried altering the sharpness. Knowing the 2i though, it will probably just make things too sharp and will start to go all weird round the edges.
The inside picture is a JOKE....nothing else can describe it. I'm so annoyed with o2 right now. They charge me the same to upgrade from the 2 that anyone walking in off the street would be charged or online (any other phone on a contract often determines the money you stump up for an upgrade, it did from the XDA --> XDA2). They don't provide proper BT headset support for a headset THEY market under their own name (iTech/o2 clip headset) and they market the 2i as having a superior camera. I was looking through some old pics I took with the 2 last night and though they were smaller, quality and detail wise they were spot on...certainly compared to the "megapixel" 2i. I think someone else on here put it best..."now I can take bigger crap pictures".
o2 need to sort this with a patch ASAP (Bluetooth too, please!!!) Given the old CMOS thing though, not sure what they're going to do about it.
Cheers
Anthony
Anybody knows if the Magician has the same camera as the IIi?
Regards,
Primoz
it was me that posted the quote "i can take bigger crap pictures" and i think its the best quote i have ever done.
I did not list pictures 6 and 7 as they was in the house and the XDA2i was basically a black picture were the nokia pictures you could make out wat the pics were.
I also noticed the size of the pics
Nokia 6630 aprox 400-600 KB
XDA2i aprox 150 -250 KB
i will mess with the setting on the XDA2i and see if i can inprovve it.
it to me sees the "auto" on the XDA2i dose not work, when in the house the 6630 screen brightened up in the low light and made a reasinable picture, where the 2i did nothing

Hi guys, here you go for the first complete live photo for X7510
Head over to http://www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=5475
and see it for yourself. Feel free to ask me any question because you won't be able to understand what he is writing (chinese)
quick summary: photo is better, graphic seems to be better, speed increase a bit, new function such as atomistic rotate.....etc
Hmm wouldn't mind trading in my 7501 for one of these...TJ

Am I missing something? There doesn't seem to be much different apart from a bigger hard drive and a few minor twitches. hardly makes you want to sell up and get one, to me anyhow.

Does it come with Opera Mobile 9.5?

Agree.
For me, the missing buttons in 7510 has made it so much less appealing than 7500 and 7501. Microdrive is not unacceptable to me, not the absence of some buttons is. I just will not want to carry the keyboard.
I guess it will be more for those who prefer to use it notebook style rather than tablet style.
Keyboard has more keys, bigger hard drive but lack of hardware buttons - nothing there for me to get excited abour. I'll stick to my Ameo with AP4.0

Graphics seems better really? I found Dopod U1000 is already exceptional in terms of visual quality.
I wish they offered more such better CPU, better BUS, better performance. I really love Athena. Too bad, not so much improvement to worth the upgrade.
sweet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss the D Pad and buttons used on most other PDA type machines. The strange button setup on the 7501/0 doesn't work very well for games and I use mine a lot for gaming. I have to wonder who made this decision to get rid of all the buttons. Very strange.
Here is a short video unboxing of it. He says x7501, but its the x7510.

The narrator indicated that the device did not have an internal microphone, which I rather doubt! The internal speaker ports are still there. That would mean you can still use the phone without having to have a wired or BT headset. I can't imagine HTC would have dropped mike and speakers.

All of these functions should be software related, and not hardware related (since the hardware is pretty much the same). Doesn't it mean that we should be able to make them work on our X7500?

Hi all,
I thought it would be good to have a thread that compares Touch Pro to Hermes.
For those who have a Touch Pro and have had a Hermes please share with us your thoughts on speed, use of keyboard, reception, battery and anything else you care to mention.
Well, there's way more RAM/ROM. The Raphael also has GPS, 5 row keyboard, VGA 2.8 screen, and a much better camera. There's a lot more but that's just the giss of things.
Does the faster processor and more memory actually translate into better performance in reality?

Definitely, much better performance, especially coming from a Hermes. The numbers aren't just numbers, they represent qualities of the hardware
i tried the tilt and honestly even with more ram and rom didnt notice a huge difference
has anyone tried out pocketcm on a touch pro yet? interested in how that runs with skyfire and a few other things at the same time
From what i've heard, Skyfire doesn't run well with the phone all in all. You'll notice the RAM/ROM difference when you have more things open in the background.

Yeah, that's what I've heard... Someone once told me it only displays on half screen if you try to input text, or if you switch from profile to landscape view.

no no he solved that problem
if you start it in landscape its fine
but if you slide it either way while its running it messes up
im just hoping a vga version comes out by the time the phone is out
but he said it still looks great on the screen
but ya on my 8525 just having wmp open and anything else stutters im gona love the new one

More memory, compared to the Mogul, will be the biggest factor. TouchFlo probably hurts speed some
Well I've got them both fully loaded with my usual stuff at the moment.
Hermes - 20MB RAM, 45MB Storage (most apps installed on card, would be about 10MB tops) free
Diamond - 135MB RAM, 222MB Storage free.
So no more constantly shifting apps & files to the card to keep memory clear, programs should hopefully stay loaded instead of being auo closed to free memory.
The screen, as expected is in a totally different league. Anyone who says VGA doesn't matter on such a small screen either has never used one, or has poor eyesight.
Size-wise I was worried about it being bigger than the Diamond, but fact is, it's still 35% smaller than the Hermes, so feels great in both hand and pocket. It's a little lighter but that's not too noticable. It feels a lot more solid, too.
Even after 2 years of tweaking, customising, and getting the Hermes to meet my needs as much as I can, the Touch Pro still feels a whole lot more polished and professional, even with the barely-tweaked base ROM.
Battery-wise, it's too early to tell. Ive barely had it 24 hours, but after a morning of texting, email, wifi, 3G, and an hour or so of GPS, 6 hous later it looks like I'm down to about 2/3. I wish this thing had proper battery percentages, though.
Only current issues:
-I need to find out how to turn that damn autocorrect bar off. Checked every option I can find. Time to go forum searching (hear that, any reading noobs? This forum has SEARCH!)
-Find a way to replace the scrollwheel.
Absolutely a worth upgrade though, and so far, it's everything I thought it would be.
Didnt know what was gonna be next on the purchase list but I skipped the Kaiser since I couldnt justify another LARGE purchase after a years worth of Hermes, Raph is definatly on the cards when i get home (23rd August) so am glad somebody made this thread
Count me in too. I've had the Wizard and Hermes, but skipped the Kaiser. The VGA screen alone should be worth the upgrade for us!
I had all sorts problems trying to view facebook on opera mobile on the Hermes - tried several new betas of opera 9 as they came out but never did have any luck. It kept either crashing completely or coming up with out of memory errors. In the end I gave up and went to opera mini.
No such issues with the Touch Pro though, opera mobile runs very smoothly on it.
I would rather compare Raphael with Kaiser.
I owns TYTN and Kaiser so do not have plan or budget to upgrade it at the pricing peak. You know wm7 and android mobile are coming out in the end of next year so..I love raphael a lot but might just wait for a reasonable price.

Same issues and impressions here, + I still need to get used to lack of button and Touchflo 3D instead. It's sometimes confusing, like when using the WM background that eventually need a stylus.

I turned it off by using the on-screen keyboard, which has a button for "ABC/T9". Switch it to ABC and the T9 predictive text (autocorrect) is turned off. Worked a treat for me. I (accidentally) found this option early on, so I don't know if there's another way of doing it (there probably is).

Well I spent about an hour poking around in the registry when I accidentally found it too. Thanks for putting the info up for everyone else, too.
Who the hell thought that POS was a good idea anyway? It's the worst thing I've ever seen on a Windows Mobile device, and I've seen some real crud.

I come from an (Orange SPV M3100) TyTN (Hermes) to a (HTC) Touch Pro (Raphael), and so far I'd say just about everything about the phone is better:
- Size: The Raphael is smaller; when compared side by side it doesn't look like by a lot, but it's very noticeable in the hand and in the pocket.
- Weight: The Raphael felt slightly heavier in my hand than the Hermes, but to me this is nothing bad (I'd argue it feels 'better' in the hand, combined with the smaller size).
- General feel: It sits better in the hand hand the Hermes (size playing in again).
- Look: TouchFLO3D looks sweet.
- Speed: Generally faster, overall no complaints (TF3D sometimes is a bit sluggish, for no apparent reason, haven't tracked it down or done any troubleshooting, it's only happened twice).
- Battery: A bit early for me to compare, I'd say at least as good. The Hermes didn't have GPS of course.
- Reception seem about the same for me.
- Keyboard: Took a little getting used to (buttons are a little smaller and feel a little different), but once you are, it's great. Five rows and a near-full QWERTY keyboard helps a lot too. The spring loading is totally awesome
- Input methods: The on-screen keyboard options are also very good and a lot better than the on-screen options on the Hermes.
- Touch: The phone is generally much better designed for using your fingers on the screen. This has a lot to do with it not being recessed into the case. This combined with better on-screen input methods means I'm using the screen without the stylus a lot more, which again means I'm able to operate it one-handed better than the Hermes. A big plus.
- Screen: Well, what can I say. The VGA screen is just brilliant.
That's all good, right? Yep, so far, so good, but hey, I've only had it a few days
The most annoying thing for me was the backlight not coming fully on when attempting to unlock the screen - this made the screen impossible to read outdoors in almost any kind of light when trying to unlock. I'm using S2U2 which does what I want and fits my usage pattern (set it up to lock on backlight off and on, and I've always been in the habit of pressing the power button to turn of the screen when finishing anything).
Edit: I stand corrected in that the backlight is adjustable for when the device is locked: Start -> Settings -> Power -> Backlight
The second most annoying thing is that since using it one-handed a lot more than the Hermes, it can be tricky to hit the correct buttons/areas that are close to the screen edges with your fingers - including the on-screen keyboards. Sometimes random stuff happens as a result of such attempts
Another thing is the auto correction. The auto correct feature of the Raphael is T9 predictive text. For my usage, which means using a QWERTY keyboard (slide-out or on-screen), T9 makes absolutely no sense (if you use on-screen phone keypad then I can see that it might be useful, as on 'normal' phones, but when using a keyboard it needs to work differently). The Hermes had a (limited) sort of auto correction, but the way it worked seemed to make more sense to me. Don't get me wrong, it could be improved a lot.
I do miss an "OK" button on the slide-out keyboard to confirm/close applications without having to press the screen. For that matter, the "OK" button on the front of the Hermes was useful too, although with the Raphael you're clearly meant to operate it using the fingers on the screen. The only tricky bit is that "OK" is in the top right corner, making it a bit hard to hit (correctly) with your fingers.
I posted this in the Hero General topic a while back and thought I would ask for opinions again.
I am playing with a few self-made roms and just trying to get myself REALLY familiar with this android device that has consumed a lot of my development time (apps and such).
Anyway I got to the part where I am trying to rip to shreds everything I can in an effort to make it faster. When I got to the "PNG optimizing" I always see others doing, I kind of sat back and thought about this. Why am I wanting to do this? It may sound like I dumb question at fist, but why am I trying to make these PNG's more compressed?
I know that on most applications where images need to be displayed in a hurry you want to have large uncompressed images. For example, on my HTPC I have all of my high res backgrounds as uncompressed bitmaps running off of a flash drive because any time the processor has to spend decoding the image to display it is time away from switching the menu's or loading up a view.
So I am at the part now where I need to determine if the time spent decoding the image is worth the extra KB used in RAM. And which has a greater impact on performance. I have a feeling optimizing PNG's has been done in the past for space reasons and wasn't really given this much thought. People just do it because its the first thing that seems logical.
Has anyone else REALLY thought about why they are optimizing all of these PNG's? Yeah, it makes sense right off the bat, but if you think about it, is it working?
Since there is really no way to determine/compare these small results, I guess I would have to come up with a way to check. This may be really minor or have some placebo effect. But I am thinking sense is just a hair quicker on my own small tests.
What do you guys think? Let me know if you think I am missing something or am totally off on my "used ram vs cpu usage" theory. It might have been answered before and I am just wrong. I just love math and am totally looking for a good scientific answer to this question, even if it means I am wrong.
What's faster, moving an image from storage at bus speeds or moving smaller amounts of image data, and expanding at cpu speeds? You call it. To do a boot image in photoshop, one color (the extreme case) it took 615 bytes optimized, verses some 16k bytes in (320 x 480) which results in 21.6 k in cmyk color.
That is the extreme case. The actual screen is hardware bound, colors and size are predetermined, so images have to be transformed to fit, any way. Do the trans formation at run time or before?
Food for thought.
Here are the details.
