Is there a ported Wing Rom out there? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I want to use a real offcial rom, every rom i use seems to need soft resets daily and the just dont seem as stable as the Offcial WM5 Rom.

All im gonna say is Why? THe phone is a slow piece of crap. I will choose my wizard over that phone anyday. and its rom. The roms here are so much better and faster.

Ive acually used the wing and its faster than the Wizard. And the Roms here are not better or faster, ive prorbaly tried every single WM6 rom and many are slow, bloated, and are pieces of ****.

Yeah. I did flash the P4350 a few days back with a hybrid of Aserg/Wing WM6 ROM and it's atleast as fast as Wizard not to mention it can do 286Mhz easy.
Once the the real WM6 ROMs start to roll in WIzard will be kinda dead IMO.

That may be the case. but when i had my tmo wing. it sucked. The springy hinge feels like ****, The rom was super slow, even when there was nothing in the background running. maybe if it was overclocked it would work fine. My 8525 is so much better than the wing. i figured it was a low # poster who would say all wm6 roms here run like ****. There are some that dont do as well as others, but to say someones hard work is just ****, then your on your own on that one bro.

I'm interested to see the results as I'm looking into what will be my next phone after the wizard

Wing as an upgrade to the MDA? I think not...
The Wing and the MDA are different by something like 5Mhz on the processor and nothing on the memory. I think the speed differences you see/feel are psychological.
The wing is more thin as is normal with advances in technology, but otherwise it is pretty much the same as the MDA. Why waste your money for a horizontal transition. If you want to "upgrade" go with something a little better at least.
Try the HTC Athena if you want to get a real upgrade to your MDA. (T-Mobile calls it the Ameo...but its the Athena)
It's a phone...with TV/VGA output, ATI Imageon 2282 integrated video, built in 10GB hard drive, USB port that doesn't just output like the MDA but can also host (i.e. you can plug USB devices into the phone), supports WiFi-G, Bluetooth, and has a miniSD slot, largest screen (touch screen to boot) of any phone on the market 5" at 480x640 resolution, built in GPS, 2 megapixel camera, ships with WM5, but it would be a breeze at handling WM6, 624 Mhz Intel processor, 256mb ROM, and 128mb RAM.
This is a serious ass phone...and a true UPGRADE. Screw the Wing...

The wing is only an updated version of the wizard and all stock roms are slow because of the useless stuff they have. i own a wing but i will choose my two mda's over the wing, if you want the rom just get a wing or stay with the wm5 rom or a better idea ask tmobile for the secret wm6 wizard update.

It's possible to port the OEM section to the Wizard. The only problem is that the camera shows a transposed image and I couldn't get My Faves to work. I had to use the OEM drivers .rgu file from the wizard build and so many of the registry settings are specific to the herald that separating them would have been an endless exercise in frustration.
I have a Herald ROM that's been broken down into SYS and OEM packages if anyone wants to give it a go. It just may take me forever to upload from here.

Have Wizard, want Dash, am I crazy?

Ok, so I have a K-Jam, and I'm considering getting the new T-mobile Dash (excallibur).
I'd be losing touch screen, and losing full windows mobile, as the Dash is WM Smartphone Edition.
But, it is a 200mhz OMAP processor. So is my wizard, but I succesfully run my wizard at 273mhz (with batterystatus today plugin). Is there a way to overclock the dash to more than 200mhz?
Will I really miss the touchscreen? I mainly use my wizard to sync with an exchange server, and i browse the web and use agile for IM.
I rarely use the camera...and I rarely use the bluetooth, but I do tether my wizard to my powerbook and use t-mobile's edge service.
Am I nuts? or will the dash be nice? I like it's size, and I don't really like the slide out design of the wizard, but I do like the size of the keyboard, so I think I'll have to get used to the smaller keyboard on the dash.
keep wizard kkthx
I personally don't like wm smartphone but it could be for you. You could go with the dash and take it on a test run. Tell the people there at t0mobile that your unsure and would like to try it out, they got to have a period where you can return the phone.
also i don't think you'd have to worry about the processor speed on a wm smartphone
I've used mpx and audiovox smartphones for awhile. Only good thing about them is the size. Other than that, all the good stuff is gone.
If you don't mind the programs, and touchscreen, then you should get it since you don't fully use all the ppc's functions.

Maybe you should try the Treo, I always like thier formfactor. Very handy keyboard and you can actually use on hand.
I think you should stick with the Wizard or go for the Tytn.
tmo allows a return peroiod of 14 days but keep the wiz. dash doesnt even compare
I just recently went from a 6700 (HTC apache) to the Treo 700wx to the Moto Q with MOL2 update.
Smartphone is quite different but if all you need it for is Internet, email, IM, video, PIM, phone etc it works just fine, maybe even better.
Took me a week to get used to it but the size, simplicity and awesome Homescreens have made me decide to keep it (see HERE for a list of links).
I don't miss the touchscreen and I've been able to replace about 95% of my apps with smartphone ones.
I recommend picking it up, tweaking it playing with it for 2-3 days then actually activating it if you like it. If it doesn't work, just return it.
Honestly, I don't find a huge difference between functionality of full WM5 vs Smartphone. It's all overblown.

I have the x800. It is a good phone as long as you make sure you keep it clean. It only has, like many other phones, 64mb of RAM. I love the screen and with the wm6.1 ROM that has been created it is a very smooth phone.
Some say that he camera is bad but I have had no problems with it. There is also complaints about the 3G not working to its full potential. I cannot confirm this as I do not use the internet on my phone.
It is a sleek and quick phone. It is very light and has a beautiful screen.
Unless Eten learns to build 128 MB in their high end phones I am not even going to consider those
do most of the commonly used apps work ok with the vga screen such as opera mini, tom tom etc is use theese mainly
I have been using this phone for 3 months now and what can I say, it's a superb phone.
Screen is real nice and sharp, though the white is a bit weak versus a x500, but just slightly.
It's fast enough too, not as fast as qVGA but the buildup is pretty fast and you hardly ever see noticable delays.
The 3G /Hdspa speeds have no problems in Europe, it's just the States because of theit cell towers, the hardware used there isn't 100% compactible, more phones suffor from that and yes I got a source but not at hand.
The camera is real bad, real hard to make decent pics with it but if you shoot at the highest resolution and crop them afterwards you still have a very decent pic, I use it for blogging and stuff.
The ram is another story, 64 mb is really the only major downside, you can set the pagepool to 4mb which solves all problems, but with the currenst firmware there's still some memory leaks, like windows live, navigation, oxios only recovers about half.
Probably it gets fixed in the next official rom as 6.1 has better control over the memory.
Another probably slight downside only few care about are cover/housing cracks, on the back near the middle there are a few, I solved it with a bit of paper between the batery cover and the battery.
About all programs do work well, ironically most of the htc apps don't run or don't run well.
Another thing not all today plugins seem to be vga compatible but the most popular ones are.
Future wise it's ok too, you got the vga screen, hdspa, about everything that can be put into a phone (I'm not taking a mobile tv receiver from the v900 into acount), even wlan which htc recently disabled in most of their pda's, the only thing you don't have is dedicated 3D hardware, but it's just a question of do you need that and when do we see usefull apps for it, personally I don't think for quite some time.
The last downside is probably the e-ten support, no they release patches equally fast, maybe faster than HTC, roms too, but ig you send the phone to them communication can be a bit of a problem, they got to work on that.
There are few custom roms but lately as e-ten grew more and more populair more people are working on it and even wm6.1 has been ported already.
Overall if you ask me this phone is better than htc currently has to offer, they have no candybar pda with a high resolution screen, just the athena and universal which aren't real competitors.
I would personally recommend e-ten to anyone that's fed up with htc, been using pda's for about 10 years now and the last year I've had a x500 and now an e-ten x800, and I don't regret switching over, no htc for me for the next year/twi years at least.
i agree
I perfectly agree with iruja, the eten pda are great. I have a X500+ with vga screen and i love it, and with the sirf star III receiver it's a perfect navigator (not assisted-gps like htc kaiser), it's more sensible and quickly to connet than my car navigator (more).

well im torn between an x800 and a touch cruise, is the 64mb ram really all that bad, my tytn has 64mb and runs fine

I don't have any problems with the 64 meg of RAM. I have tried 4 different versions of GPS software out there and all of them work fine. I just make sure I recover my memory every now and then.
I think the memory issue people have is kind of funny. If you use a M$ product then get used to it. Yes there seems to be memory leaks with the Eten ROMs so far but I am using the wm6.1 ROM that was cooked and it seem to be better.
I think the X800 is a great phone and PDA.
64mb is fine, because of the vga resolution it uses some more, but still it's sufficient.
It seems the leaks are mainly the core, and a few programs.
It has been worse, the first rom was a disaster, but the 402 version is pretty stable, and has a lot less memory leaks.
I wouldn't worry about them to much, but if you're a hardcore user you may encounter them sometime, but remember, the worst thing that could happen to you is just a softreset, that's all, which I haven't needed in 3 months due to memory problems.
I second that

Advice on changing from 9100 to 9000

Hi
I currently have a qtek 9100 (wizard) and I'm kinda happy with it. Soon it will have sdhc support and the new wm6.1 rom is much faster, but I still think it's a bit slow.
I now have the option to buy a (almost new) 9000 universal and wanted to know a few things comparing these 2 pda's:
Note: I don't need howto's or guides, I can search for that, I just need a quick answer like "it can be done", "it can easily be done" or "it can't be done".
1- How's the battery? My wizard can hold about 2 days (with the new rom) with minimal calls (about 2 minutes/day) and 3h/day of listening to mp3 and/or viewing videos. (and of course standby the rest of the time). Can the Universal do this too?
2- How's the performance, compared with the wizard? Is it really 2.5 times greater as the clock speed suggests? Can it be over/underclocked as the wizard?
3- How's the app compatibility? I don't mind if it only works with QVGA, as long as it works.
4- SDHC support, is it real? Can I really use a 16Gb card and still be fast?
5- Size/weight, compared to the wizard, is it much bigger? Does it look less like a brick?
6- CID/SIM unlock, is it easy? I still don't know if I'll buy a G3 or G4 pda, is there a difference in unlock?
7- New Rom/new functions support, I'll sure to read that section of the forum carefully before upgrading, but it look like the wizard section is extremely active, is it the same here?
I'll appreciate all help here.
1. Universal can hold on battery 1-1,5 days with your using
2. Universal is much faster than wizard, is has also VGA screen, wich will slow down it's fast processor, but after changing from omap 201mhz to xscale 624mhz you will feel a hudge diffrence, for better of course
3. Most of HTC Apps, like contact manager, task manager, large start menu or htc home dosent work's correctlly. But some people use, for example, using HTC Home on Universal, wich for me is to small. Other apps, specially this commercial one, works normallny (Resco, SPB, SBSH etc.)
4. I'm using 6GB SDHC Card, 16GB should also work
5. Yes, it's much bigger, but you will get bigger 3,6" VGA screen, UMTS support, bigger keyboard.
6. If you can unlock Wizard, you will also can unlock uni. In diffrent way of course, but you will find toturials on XDA
7. Universal dosn't have so many cookers like Wizard, but we have couple of WM 6.1 roms, non of cookers develop working videotelephony on WM 6 rom, you must remember that
I'm selling PDA's, i have acces to all PDA's that are actually on market, but for me Universal beat's them all. It's most functional device I've ever userd (I dont use GPS).
thanks for the quick reply. The major problem I see now is the size, I'll see if I can compare it to my wizard. About the HTC apps, I never use them anyway, so it won't be a problem. Most likely soon I'll join this community and be a happy owner of a universal.
Oh yes I have wizard too!!!!
If you test the Universal you should like, the VGA display, the speed, the fantastic keybard...
You should be hate the size of the Uni (slim brick), you cannot put it in your pocket, no full shutdown, no hard button for vibrator (but vidra switch app exists stable if not in roaming cases), less WM6.1 version than for Wizard
Now I don't use my Wizard because the uni is very more faster and the screen is MEGA beautiful.
The Uni is less ruggest than Wizard, be carrefull.

The Universal is very more powerful (no big latency like wizard) but the screen refresh is slow with TomTom (It's VGA display), It's Ok for me
Standard divx can be displayed without problem and witout special compress (I tested it on 4Gb SDHC).

In standard, the Uni works on 192dpi, it's like QVGA display, all QVGA apps works fine. In several cases you are poor display resolution due to the quality of the apps design.
If you use Real VGA for 128dpi or 96 dpi (real 640x480), I use 128dpi because 96 is too small, some applications are not compatible (Wargus, Worms, S2U2,...)

Yes, the 4Gb SDHC is very well support, for 16Gb it depends of the rom version (you can add the driver by yourself) but it works.
With the 4Gb sandisk is fast (I can display divx without problem of speed).

Weight no problem, wizard is not very better
The size can be a problem for pocket transport. I have a PDair standard leather case (remove PDA from case to use it). It's OK
Not easy for received call.

The procedure is more complex than for Wizard, but if you respect it carefully, it works fine (SFR model on Bouygues network for me)

Wizard section in more active but here in the Uni, the same OS builds are available.
If you have money, you can upgrade your Universal with 128mb ram.

Considering upgrading from my wizard.

Its just too darn slow, and I find it a bit bulky.
The phone functions I use are Internet (over wifi only), camera, and I like the slide out keyboard. I am with att and they offer the Tilt for just over a 100 with 2 year contract renewal. Do you think I would like that phone, or would I find it too bulky as I do the wizard? Any other suggestions? I was really hoping to find a slimmer size pda phone.
Thanks so much!
Josh
the kaiser/tilt is just as if not more bulky as the wizard. I do believe it might be slightly bigger, also, but i might be wrong. The tmobile wing, which is the HTC Herald, is a relatively slim ppc, but it is for T-mobile. I assume that your wizard is actually a tmobile MDA unlocked from Tmobile, so i direct you to the T-Mobile Wing/HTC Herald.
Picking a gadget
When I have a decision like this, I go to cnet.com (or any review site you like) and line up comparable products and compare specs. Cnet will lay all the features out in a table for you, so you can compare memory, processor, size & weight, price, etc, and a pic (which is really the only way to count buttons not on the keyboard).
Asking someone if you'll be happy with something isn't something they can answer well. Finding out of people are happy with their gadget is pretty easy if you just scope that gadget's forum on xda-dev., which is also a good way to find out what some of the bugs might be. There are blogs, too, like jkontherun (James Kendrick) that can be helpful when considering a big(ish) purchase.
I had a wizard, then upgraded to the hermes, then the kaiser (tilt). Each time I've felt like it was a worthy upgrade and couldn't see myself going back to the previous model.
My sister has my old wizard and I played with it a little last week when I stopped by to visit. The kaiser is worlds ahead of it. It is about the same length and width, but significantly slimmer, as in 5mm (.2"). Here's a page where you can compare the sizes:
http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_co...ate-Ultimate-7150-vs-HTC-Kaiser-vs-HTC-Wizard
Also, the form factor/button placement are way better thought out than the wizard, and the specs blow it out of the water: 3G speeds, GPS, etc...
The kaiser is heavier than the wizard, though.
well, i guess we all push whatever device we have. makes sense, no?
I upgraded from a wizard to a hermes about a year ago, and the only improvements are the 3g/hsdpa internet access, (which you say you don't use anyway), and the scroll-wheel to replace the slider switch, (which I would call a minor improvement, and not a reason to upgrade). Otherwise the phone doesn't seem any faster or better, and this is comparing faria's rom on the wizard to schaps on the hermes.
I have considered upgrading to the kaiser, but reading how unhappy everyone is because of the graphics drivers and seeing tomtom on THAT video compared to my wizard or hermes, I have decided to wait - probably for the sony xperia x1.

Hard choise... Trynity or?

Hi.
I need some advice but don't know if this is the best place to ask.
I got a Trinity for almost a year and appart the lack of support from HTC and the known problems, I'm very happy with it.
Now I have the chance to keep it or change it for a Touch Cruise (Polaris) paying almost nothing.
My question is what do you think about the better choise. The specs are almost the same, of course the Polaris has double of the memory, touchflo, better cam, radio, etc., but how about problems and reability. I read some people with bluetooth problems, etc.
Here on XDA forum, we got to many resources for Trinity, but the Polarys has less resources for now, talking about cooked ROM's, etc.
What are your advices?
Thank's to everybody for all your opinions
I have just changed from the Trinity to the cruise, it was a good choice. The cruise is more streamlined and it seems faster I guess because of the extra memory buffer you get. I dont think I will be looking back, its nice not having any of the bugs. I dont have to worry about the internet connection being flakey and im confident that my push email comes straight to the phone and its always on.
If you get chance to swap for next to nothing go for it.
I changed from an ipaq to TC. My ipaq didn't have a phone. But I find the TC very slow sometimes, can't say if it's WM6 or HTC. I've tried using the WM6 emulator on PC, and yes it's also slow in places.
Frankly for free I'd upgrade, but if you have a choice of non-HTC, I'd have a look.
