Does flashing/upgrading wipe contacts? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

As the title says, do I need to backup my contacts before I do this? If so how? Activesync never seems to do it correctly.
Thanks,
Nick.

Flashing will perform a Hard Reset, so stored PIM (Contacts, Calendar Items, Todos, SMS/MMS, etc) will be cleared.
Backup using ActiveSync (with Outlook) is fine.

When I try to backup with Activesync it does everything but contacts, you mentioned Outlook, do I need this to backup contacts?
Thanks.

if you have an SD card, just use PIM Backup and have it store the backup data to the SD card. Anything on the SD won't be touched from a hard-reset.

when you use activesync you'll have to go through it's program options and checkoff on contacts to be synced. i think it usually has the options of contacts, calendar, notes, favorites, etc...just search around (unfortunately I'm on vista, so activesync doesn't work for me, but same deal in windows mobile device center)

ActiveSync on Vista doesn't connect?

Hi!
I had my HTC Artemis (with WM6) synced with my Vista PC, all Contacts, Calendar data etc. were synced between Phone and PC.
then I set up my Vista PC completely new. (format C:, fresh vista Install)
Then I wanted to sync my contacts and stuff back to my PC, so i had a backup copy of all data. I established (bluetooth) ActiveSync connection to my PC and tried to get my device paired. it didn't work for some reason...
(I could actually browse the files on my phone, but i couldn't set up sync settings...) So i gave it up, and wanted to try it another time... and then i realized...
DAMN! ALL MY CONTACTS ARE GONE!!!!!
Thats a bit funny because a was worried that my contacts were only on my phone, so I wanted to sync with my PC to create kind of a backup, wich deleted them all! I'm starting to hate windows mobile!
Did enybody encounter a similar problem?
And what could be the reason i cannot sync?
Are you using Windows Mobile Device center or Activsync???
On Vista only Windows Mobile Device center works
I use Windows Mobile Device Center.
but when i open it there comes only a amall diagog titled "Connection settings"
where i can switch on and off bluetooth and usb connections
Hopefully you have a .pst file on your PC with the olod contacts.... would never do anything synching without a backup.

You could try "NS Contacts Backup 1.2" its freeware, might work with WM6 worth a try.
If not try spb backup, you can make a full backup of your PPC or of just your PIM data.
There's also PIMBackup by DotFred. It will also backup your SMS and emails.

Transfering Contacts, Messages etc.

Hey, I am thinking of upgrading my G4 wizard to WM6, but am curious as to how I am able to transfer all my contacts, and messages etc across.
also I am correct in thinking it is possible to reflash to wm5 if I desire?

PIM Backup 2.5
here it is
I find it easier to just let it sync with outlook after a rom upgrade. you will get all your contacts and mails back.
but make sure to use the pimbackup to keep your sms messages and call logs etc.

My push email server and pim backup started conflicting with each other after a few rom flashes so now only my email syncs with the server...I backup everything else via Pim Backup.

Hi,
I want to transfer my contacts, note ... from my old PDA2 (WM 2003 SE) to new Nokia 6220 Classic (S60 on Symbian). I have exported my contacts to some files such as .csv .txt .vcf by outlook but the Nokia communicator software dose not import said files and says "The contacts cannot be imported. Check the file format"
Thanks to help me.

It's not a WinMo phone, right? contact your service provider. Most have the means to conduct PIM transfers between incompatible phones. Most will also charge you for the luxury. I think it's usually worth it not to have to retype every contact, when you have over a hundred...

ActiveSync - remove partnership

How can I remove an ActiveSync partnership from a phone without removing all the synchronized items with this partnership?
My girl's phone no longer needs to be synched for contacts only for calendar but if I uncheck the contacts-option, AS removes all synced items.
So I thought that i might be able to remove a partnership and then create a new one and only sync the calendar but then also everything is removed...
please advise
My Trick was to get PIMBackup, Backup my Contacts. Uncheck the Contacts in ActiveSync, let it delete, and restore the Contacts from my Backup in PIMBackup.

Contacts + Assigned picture < Backup

What's the best way to make a backup of all contacts and their pictures?
I've heard Microsoft Outlook does this. But i don't have it, where can I get it?
Is there any easier way of keeping them? I just wanna do the "Clear Storage" and reset my device to factory settings.
PIM Backup
I uses PIM Backup to backup my contacts and messages.

Accidentally deleted ALL contacts, appointments, etc. Recoverable??? Help...

I'm screwed, I can't believe this happened. I reformatted my PC. Installed fresh and clean version of Outlook. Installed MS ActiveSync. The very FIRST thing I did was set the ActiveSync options to have the PHONE replace OUTLOOK, thinking this will put all my contacts, calendar appointments, etc back in outlook. For some unexplained reason, that setting was ignored, and when I synced it, it deleted everything from my phone. A years+ worth of information I can't get back. So my question is:
Is there any way to recover all my lost phone numbers, appointments, etc? Or am I really SOL? I'm praying perhaps there's some file recoverable file on the phone or... I don't know. Help!
Did you ever make any backups, like w/ Sprite or SPB or PIMBackup (or myphone or Windows Live)? If not, you're probably SOL. You really need some failsafes; one backup isn't enough for important data.
Sadly no, i didn't, i was stupid enough to think outlook was my backup of the phone, or the phone was a backup of outlook... Stupid programs ended up erasing each other...
Well, maybe try poking around the active sync folder on your pc; i guess it could've backed up your contacts on your phone before it deleted them (c:\program files\microsoft active sync, or something like that).
