In-call volume & wake-up lock? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I think I have suffered from this since installing WM6 (most varients so far....) but it isn't a major problem, however I am sure the behaviour was different in WM5
If my Wizard is 'sleeping' and I receive a call I can use the Talk or Hangup buttons to answer or hangup the call no problems. When in the call if I try and lower the volume using the volume slider on the side it doesn't work. This is because it is locked, if I unlock it the button works. I am sure with WM5 the volume slider worked in a call even when the Wizard was locked?
I am currently running the last Faria WM6 ROM, however I have slightly re-heated it to my taste.
Andy

I'm pretty sure this is because smartskey is installed and configured to override the slider key when using the phone. Change the config and it should work the way you want.

I don't have smartskey installed, this is one of the things I removed....

it might suck.... but a hard reset might be all it takes to fix the problem

Hang on, I'm running WM5 and smartskey. Even with Smartskey the vol slider works in phone mode (device unlocked). I just called myself with the device locked, the slider and all buttons are ineffective except for the pickup and hang-up keys. So, there it is!!
Also, with the device locked, you can only hang up after a call, you can not hit the red key again to bring you back to the Today screen, you have to unlock for that.

Well this is maybe the 15th or so time I have re-flashed WM6 on this Wizard and it's been the same on all of them, I think a hard-reset won't fix anything

All of them.... Well, ROM's based on each of the 3(4?) base ROMs that have appeared. I am now wondering whether this might be a Battery Status thing since I have kept the same Battery Status settings throughout...

I've tried other WM5 ROMs, such as Molski's AKU 3.2, and if I remember, it did the same thing. Perhaps someone with another WM6 rom loaded can experiment and let us know if the same happens to them.
Anyone???
EDIT: I am using Batt status to lock it. I can try another lock program, hang on!!

Well, I tried just the Today plug-in lock, and the same thing happened, however, I can't rule anything out, I not sure if that plug-in uses BSdevicelock.exe or a different one. I did a search for devicelock and the only file that popped up was the BSdevicelock. I need to find a different one and try it.
UPDATE:
I tried a diffrent devicelock program and the same thing happend.

Button Problems

Hey all, just upgraded to thingonasprings rom and im pretty chuffed so far... only a couple of problems, im sure someone will be able to help me as a newbie. Keyboard and phone buttons seem to work fine, but the dpad, backlight, voice dial and camera buttons and volume control all seem dead and the power button doesnt always bring the screen back up, i have to close the lid and re-open.
Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone confirm them to be working in another rom that is as good as thingonasprings?
ok, i guess no one else has this problem... can anyone recommend a way to capture when a button is pressed and what reference refers to that button? Is there anything in the registry storing a button reference followed by its action. I may not be using the correct terminology.
If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
try to reflash it again... maybe it would help.
Thanks for the reply
I tried reflashing, and even tried changing to a different rom (I am using thingonaspring's rom, but have tried Beasty & Laurentius as well). Im guessing that this is something kinda specific to my device as it seems no-one else has had this problem. I know that the backlight button actually works as I can use it to get into the bootloader, thats why im thinking it must definately be a rom / software issue. Ive been looking for an app I can use to trace a button press, but cant find anything. I really like WM6, but without these buttons / volume slider i may need to swap back to something else... i was running 2003 with wisbar but the performance didnt seem as good as it is now, and i love realvga (I dunno if it is supported on other versions of the OS).
ok, think im getting somewhere - went back to wm5 and all was fine, went to wm6 and they worked until i reset...then nothing... hard reset and they work, until i reset again.... anyone any ideas please?
now sorted changed rom to jwrights and its much better - thanks

Cruise cannot be turned off

I installed several programs on my Cruise and unfortunately the device cannot be turned off anymore.
If I hold the button on top of the device and hold it, you get the message that you are turning the device off....but it puts it in hibernate....
I don't really know which program caused the problem, since I seldom turn my phone off. So in the 2 weeks I have the phone, I tried to turn it off only once.
In the beginning the button worked...but now...not anymore.
I know I can try a hard reset, but I am reluctant...since I have to install everything again.
The software I installed were:
SBSH PocketBreeze (uninstalled it)
PZP tools (uninstalled it)
BatteryStatus Advanced
SPB Diary
HTC Home Customizer
At least these are the programs of which I think could have caused the problem.
Does anybody know how to correct this, without hardresetting?
Same situation for me .....
Maybe HTC HomeCustomizer ???
you can try soft reseting the device with the stylus and see once it is back on if the problem persists. then u might want to try uninstalling the last application u installed to see if it makes a difference.

I have used HTC Home Customizer and do not have this problem. Have you tried a short double press of the power button? Sounds like the long press power off works by your descriptions. You may also want to check if xpshut will work for you.

I tried xpshut also with no results, now after hardresetting seems it's all ok. If the situation will repeat i'll write it in this thread, thanks mates
Problem seems to be resolved
The problem seems to be HTCHome v2.1 necessary for HHCustomizer to work. I installed it and i'm not able to turn off the device, after uninstalled it's all ok.
At least there is someone to share this inconvenience. Glad to hear you found out what caused it....however, does your Home Customizer still work?

There's also a service, keypad, that if stopped, disables all buttons. Not sure if this applies to you or not, but I had stopped it on my TC by accident, and had the same issue you described.

Keyboard does not work after ROM Change

Hi all,
I read through a lot of threads and downloaded tons of ROMS for my TyTN II. Most of them were from dutty's or no thrills. Problem however is that everything seems to work, it is also very fast.
However after a while my (hardware) keyboard and also the buttons (e.g. sliding wheel and keypad on the front) does not respond anymore. When I click any of the hardware buttons the light goes on so it does react on the buttons, however it just doesn't do anything...
Did anyone else experience this issue? I will no try to switch back to the original HTC rom (6.0) since I have no choice but if anyone knows how to fix this?
P.S. I just noticed that all my buttons do not work, it is no hardware issue since It does work after a hard reset, might be caused by incompatible applications? (e.g. SPB phone or SPB theme)
Kind Regards,
Nico van der Linden
If a hard reset fixes your problem each time, then it sounds to me like a bad flash. I would try reflashing the ROM you are currently running. Make sure to hard reset immediately after the flash also.
ok thanks, I'll try to download the ROM flash again , and perform an hard reset directly after the flash. Hopefully this times the ROM update will go better.
Regards,
Nico...
Just my 0.02$:
I think this is related either to WM6.1 builds or to a hack/fix/setting that most custom ROMs use.
I flashed Dutty's Apr 01 ROM and i had this issue. Then i flashed Mobile Vista 1.3 and it happens again . So it's not present in just one ROM, or just in ROMs cooked by a certain chef.
By "issue" i mean every once in a while the touchscreen stops responding to clicks and the keys stop working (but the keys backlight comes on, so HW seems ok).
During this unusual behaviour i noticed that the device is NOT frozen - BatteryStatus updated it's CPU usage while the keys and touchscreen didn't respond, so only the input stops working, the system is ok.
I have a feeling this is a common issue, but people see it as a freeze, and think their processor is too loaded, and they don't report it.
EDIT: Oh, and i got flamed and ignored whan i reported this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385080
EDIT2: I have a feeling this will get a lot of attention soon, just like the time i noticed the Tytn II is underperforming, and the fact that's it's missing 3D HW support

The quickest way to get out of that situation is turn off the backlight and turn it back on again, aka power button...and your screen will work again.
Also I noticed that if I flash the radio again my screen taping problems go away.
Also sometimes flashing to the original shipped ROM and then flashing back to a WM6.1 ROM also works.
Well I do not have an problem with the touch screen, this always keeps working (although the device does get VERY slow sometimes) . 'Only' my hardware buttons do not work anymore (including the hardware keyboard). It is strange that it does work after a hard reset or an install of another ROM. However, also then it stops working after half a day or so.
It might occur as soon as I change the hardware button assignment but I am not sure about this yet.
However, if anyone knows a ROM where this does not occur (e.g. an original HTC WM6.0 ROM dutch or english) then please let me know which one. I just want a working Tytn II back and I do not care anymore which version .
Kind Regards,
Nico...
Ah by the way, when this problem occurs it does not go away anymore when I turn of the device. I also tried removing SIM, memory card and battery but after it is started again the problem remains. Only a hard reset solves it....
But I am a bit confused? Is there nobody else who get these issues???
yeah...
i can confirm all of your bug...

New User Needing Help!

Hi guys,
I just recently got hold of an HTC Touch Cruise but the O2 XDA Orbit 2 rebranded version.
Ive been installing a few useful apps on this but some of the changes i make are lost after the phone has beeen switched off and then on!
Examples of this are the "hide sim" reg edit and the PCM keyboard as the default.
I am assuming that maybe the O2 version of WM6 on this is locked to prevent making these changes.
First, if anyone can confirm this or if not tell how me how ot get round this problem i would be grateful.
If this is the case then i would like to flash the phone with an "editable" version of WM6, are these what the ROMS people mention on here are?
If i am right about the ROMS could anyone recommend a good ROM, if they are specific to anything, one that is more finger firendly rather than stylus would be about the only thing i can think of to specify.
I realise this is a bit cheeky asking for all this but i have had a brief of the forum but would perhaps jus tlike a few pointers if anyone can spare the time.
Many thanks
Hi,
If you are turning your phone off by holding the power button then when you turn it on again it will reboot to the ROM image and you will lose all of your installed programs and edits. Try turning it "off" with a brief press on the button, you shouldn't lose anything then. At least I don't.
AFIK the standard O2 ROM allows registry edits, however you cannot edit the ROM contents. You can install apps and they should be persistent unless you do a full power down.
As for the question about ROMs, yes they are customised versions of WM6.1.
You MUST run USPL before trying to re-flash your ROM I suggest you read the upgrading forum there is a sticky there about USPL and loads of other threads about upgrading.
Personally I like ASergs and Bepes ROMs better than most. They are stable and have most of the apps I require.
Hope this helps, Good luck
Neil
Thanks so much for your reply and especially the promptness!!!
When i turn my phone off i have been holding the button at the top, i if i just press it shortly then all it does is powers the screen off. To be honest now i can get away without ever powering off since i charge every night.
If my phone freezes etc should i be using the reset button with the stylus to reboot - will this cause me to lose my edits?
Also if i used one of the customised ROMS is it still the same if i turn the phone completley off that i lose any settings?
I will give the upgrade thread now to gain better understanding, thanks again.

I'm sorry to inform you that it should not be behaving that way, and if it does, your phone is most probably broken.
If you mean Hard-Resetting, your phone does not hard-reset when pressing and holding the power button. you'll have to do a combination of other buttons and the soft-reset button to accomplish that.
Oops, Sorry about that! I had total brain failure!
Of course turning the device off by holding the power button does not cause a hard reset.
My apologies for any confusion caused.
Cheers
Neil
Ok, on my device (which is actually an O2 Xda orbit 2, if that makes any difference) When i press the powerbutton once shortly it turns off the screen but all things are still running on the phone eg calls will still come in and alarms, sms etc.
If i press and hold the button the phone switches off completley but then when i turn back on after this i find some stuff has not saved how i expect. Installed apps still remain but things like default keyboard and my hide sim reg change revert.
When you hold down the power button at least on the TC, it asks whether you want to power off, presumably yours isn't asking you and just turns off anyway.
When stuff that you expect to be saved but isn't, like the default keyboard. Do you use sip changer or something like that? If I am using PocketCM keyboard for example and reset my device it defaults back to the Cruise/Diamond keyboard and I have to set PocketCM again. If you use something like a SIP Changer it will set it for you.
So that sounds like configuration things and not necessarily strange behavior.

FUZE flashing problems! DPAD screwed up!

So my FUZE was working fine since I bought it when it first came out. It was on Stock ROM, Radio, and SPL. I decided to flash the EnergyROM to try out the new Manilla. I installed the Hard-SPL, flashed the 1.12.25.19 radio, and then flashed EnergyROM 2.0 32209. First thing I noticed was that the DPAD was HORRIBLE.
It would not correctly sense what I am pressing! I press home, and some times it doesn't register anything, sometimes it thinks I pressed left. I try the back button but it thinks I pressed right. I have had this thing since it came out so I know how to use the DPAD now, but whatever happened has completely screwed it up! I thought it was the ROM so I went to the leaked AT&T Test ROM which is also VERY nice. But the problem is still there, the DPAD just does NOT work correctly.
Also, I was unable to send an SMS earlier until I soft reset the phone. That had never happened before either.
Since it is not the ROM, it is either the Radio or the SPL. What I don't understand is that many many people have installed both the same Radio and SPL without any problems. How can I fix my DPAD?

Did you try flashing back to the stock ROM? If that doesn't work, I wonder if flashing back to stock everything (ROM, radio, SPL) might kick out the bugs (?)
Did you hard reset after flashing? That might be your problem. And what programs/settings did you install? I would hard reset-don't run UC-then see if the dpad is working fine.
I had the problem without installing anything over the ROM itself. When you flash a ROM, it hard resets, so what does hard resetting again do? I spent like 2 hours getting it the way I like it so I don't want to hard reset again. I tried reflashing the radio but it still had the problem right afterwards, but now it seems to have stopped. This is very weired.
EDIT: It started doing it again but if I put the phone to sleep and bring it back, it normally fixes it. What an annoying problem. I am going to try to flash a different radio and see what happens. I just like this radio so much its GPS actually works decently.

No, it doesn't do a full hard reset when you flash. A lot of crap is left over, and if you just start using the ROM, you get a bunch of random bugs, like, say your DPAD doesn't work. You're supposed to hard reset when the the phone asks you to align the screen. It's a must. Seriously, hard reset and start over and all of your problems will go away.
I reverted to my stock radio and the problem seems to have disappeared. I will try it out more tomorrow.
How is anything left over? It just seems so odd because I can't ever find anything from before when I flash a ROM.
It seems that I can still get fast GPS locks with this radio too, so I guess the A-GPS fix is all in the ROM.

They're not telling you to do the hard reset just for the heck of it; there's a very good reason for doing it. Not following the standard flashing instructions and then posting in the chef's thread that his ROM is buggy is just not cool.
It turned out to be the radio causing my problems not the ROM. I have never hard reset after flashing a ROM and never had a problem (and that time wasn't a problem because it was due to the radio ROM)
Not that I am asking for it, but unless there is actual proof that you need to hard reset, I don't think there is a point of doing it.
Ok the problem is back! So annoying. Does flashing the SPL hard reset the phone? I want to try going back to the stock SPL since that is the only thing it could still be, but I would rather not now if it hard resets.
Just get it over with and do a hard reset. Jeez, it's not that complicated.
roms and radios will not adjust the dpad i used the same rom u talk about and never had an issue
Hey petard, did you ever fix the issue with the D-pad ?
I have the exact same issue with my Fuze and can't figure it out.
It is a hardware issue. I had to replace it. My replacement worked fine until about 3 weeks ago where it just started to act up. I called for another replacement a couple days ago and should get it tuesday. They offered me a different phone (Epix or Incite) but I declined but told them to note it that I was offered a different phone.
In about 3 months (when my warranty ends) I will call for another replacement. If they have refurbed Touch Pro 2s by then I will ask for that, if not I will get another FUZE which will extend my warranty for 3 more months (you get 3 months or whatever was left of your original warranty, whichever is longer) and by that time they have to have refurbed Touch Pro 2s where I will then try to get one.

It figures, no easy fix. It's strange how it started to act up, mine crapped out right after a flash as well.
Good luck on aquiring the TP2 though.
