as in, when i click on a link in google maps, i want it to browse with opera mini and NOT PIE
side question, whats the diff between opera mini and the full opera mobile?
other than the fact that i need to pay
thanks
Did you search or RTFM???
Launch Opera, then Menu-Tools-Settings-Misc-and place a check mark next to Set Opera as Default. Not too hard to do.
As far as your second question is concerned, I'd suggest www.opera.com.
Opera mini isn't as easy as that.

So sorry. I'm using Opera 8.65 for Windows Mobile. It was real easy to make it my default browser. I still think Searching is a good idea.
Sorry about the misunderstanding
There is Opera MINI and Opera MOBILE
for mobile i know how to set cuz it's an exe file
but since MINI is a java base file and requires a midlet, i had to ask for more advice on how to do it
and as i suspected
it's more complicated than i thought
Thanks for trying to help, though, kimtyson
Hi people,
I know of pocket explorer, and the opera release, but is there any other webbrowsers out there that are any good?
What i am looking for is something like the iphones safari. That would be nice
Pocket Explorer
Opera
Deepfish - damn shame this was never continued!
Cheers
Opera have 2 releases, you didn't mention which one you have. Opera Mobile is one of them but its not free, its good for tabbed browsing and downloads but personally i can't get along with it as it runs slow on my handset and often has script errors, plus struggles with desktop pages and uses alot of data. Opera Mini is the other one and i personally think its amazing. You can load up full web pages quickly and easily and it allows you to zoom in and out of the pages so you can view them like you would on your desktop. It uses very low amounts of data so its cheap to use, plus its free to download.
I personally use opera on my handset as it works well with windows, its the best thing so far anyway.
If your thinking of something more along the lines of the safari (iphone) experience, there is nothing at this time that matches it exactly, but there are similar programs you can get hold of that have been around a little while like Picsel Browser. Which can load up full pages (but cost you alot of data), and renders the pages pretty well, plus you can scroll with your finger and zoom in and out of pages without a stylus. I used to use this browser but i'm now totally hooked on Opera Mini.
I'm sure there are some other browsers out there but these two i mentioned are the only 2 i consider worth mentioning.
PS. Deepfish is similar to Opera mini, its optimises pages server side to make them smaller (data wise anyway), but i think opera have stollen the game from microsoft, thus them stopping any more work on the project, from what we can see anyway!
Hope this all helps btw

Personally I don't use opera mini, because it doesn't come for the htc p4350, i can run the generic, but I have to startup java first, then opera, and with every text area (including adress) it opens a new typing window..

That's the same way it works on my wing. However, as I'm browsing from a phone, I really don't have the highest of expectations for my browsing experience, and all things considered, opera mini is the best option I've found thus far.
how do i get picsel..

Look for Picsel browser, it works almost exactly as the iPhone safari, the zoom, the kinetic scrolling, all that stuff. Execpt it's made for only samsung phones so they don't make it availible for everybody. I have aa copy, but i don't think i can post it here. Type it in google, there a lot of them there. That's where i found mine. And by the way Picsel dosent just view web pages, it also views pictures, word, excel, pdf and powerpoint. Goodluck

Ever thought about the FTX browser or Webby?
well..guys i got the file..but havent test it yet..well..atleast not yet..lolz jus typed in Picsel Browser 1.0.5 download..nd got it ;D
I tried Piscel and it was very snazzy, however, it does have some site limitations so it looks like the pay version of opera is the way to go.
Hi
Really looking for a GOOD SMARTPHONE BROWSER which can cave images and files, PIE is not capable of this, can somebody suggest which browser can do this? I tried Installing Opera on my VOX but i get double menu and action BAR's not sure which browser is capable of doing this?
thanks
Opera Mobile 8.65 works great on the VOX... I'm using it myself. I believe you tried the 9.5 leaked beta?
I think when 9.5 final is released for smartphones it'll really be an amazing browser...
hi can you tell me where did you get the opera 8.5? if you can upload it somewhere and i can download it, opera is capable of saving images??
thanks
Yes it can save images and any files. I downloaded Opera from the official site.
I've been an avid Opera user for many years, almost when it first came out in a floppy disk, but I have to say that Opera Mobile really stinks. I use Opera Mini running in jBed as it is so much better.
Yeah the latest Opera Mini is the best portable browser available right now IMO
I have a keygen for it, but.... some virus inside
howerver, it does works
you can get the Opera Mobile 8.65 at http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/
Hikey, please don't post warez, cracks or keygens. It's against the board rules.
thanks a lot guys for the response opera solved mt problem
is it just me or does opera browser (the one u buy) suck really bad? does it completely miss the zoom functionality that opera mini has????
am I missing something?
I would agree. I had a little play with Opera 9.5 beta but it was not as intuative as OperaMini. Certainly it did not have the full zoom out feature that makes OperaMini a great browser.
Regards
opera mini rocks ... opera mobile sucks .. it would be nice if they had a setting where i could define default zoom so i don't have to zoom in 100 times to get the text size that is good for me ...
hands down opera mini is better.
okay so im not crazy... I just don't understand why they wouldn't include the full page zoom functionality in their retail app... that's really the only reason to go outside of PIE anyways..
only problem with opera mini is that it sits in java and doesn't have the integration abilities that opera browser does but these nifty scripts people have created are making that more seamless... Opera really needs to get on the ball and make opera browser intriguing.
type opera:config in the address bar to fine tune the zoom options
make sure you read my past Opera Mini-related articles, where I thoroughly compared the two browsers.

Nope haven't seen that one... search for opera mini is like finding a needle in a haystack though. Got a friendly link?
Also... on the post about running opera:config in the address bar... does that give you access to some additional options or something? I don't have opera installed anymore atm to test.. does this enable the zoom/out/in functionality like opera mini or something?

Yes you get taken to the advanced options page where you can play with zoom above other things
i guess u guys were referring to the new 9.5 beta... i was referring to the version they have avail on their website.. 8.65 or something? which clearly is nothing compared to this newer version...
i installed the 9 beta and it does seem much better... will be a great release once it goes live.
which internet browser is best for ppc?
...
I like Opera Mini, loads quickly, fingerscroll is good. Then followed by Opera.
do you have its 4.2 cab?
There is already a thread about this on Off Topic section
In my opinion Opera mobile 9.5 is the best!
Read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467173
