Emulating HP’s calculators on Windows Mobile - HTC Vox

Head over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310915 – you will LOVE it! NEVER BEFORE published MS Smartphone hacks & compliance reports!

I must say great job for your topic, but for non scientist scholars, a TI or HP calculator is no use or it's just me?
I don't see the use of this, is it just for the exploit?
Interesting though

For example the TI-83/84 series is targeted at high school students. That is, they are in no way "scientists only" calculators.

Oh, yeah I thought about it afterwards... But what if you can't afford a HP/TI calculator for your A degree or any exams...
I don't think you'll be allowed to use your SP/PPC ...

I have to agree that he has long experience. But I still did not understand the catch why the Iphone suppose to be better then WM????
I fully agree that Iphone has shown in design of graphical control of a device MS has long way to improve. But from the technical pointview it is obvious that Iphone is fare away from current WM device capability's
However said that I think anyone of us can be happy that a competition to current WM devices came up and force such companies Like HTC to invent such devices like HTC Touch. It shows Those guys can do even better.
Call me ignorant But I still don't understand Why some would pay more then 500Euro for a device that has nice looking 10 icon shortcuts on today screen, but technically it can only do 20-30% what is a WM6 device currently able to do
Simple answer - Eye Candy - it's what sells Macs and Ipods really, isn't it?
They are not necessarily the best at anything they do, but they tend to look the best!

At just under 6500 words in his first post, and with 206 comments since September 16th, perhaps it's us who should be joining him. Of course he may well be posting here - not as Stephen Fry of course - although come to think of it who would believe someone posting as Stephen Fry really was Stephen Fry anyway? ...
I agree with Bulldog though. Thanks to Stephen's sober review I now know that the so vaunted iPhone can hardly do anything that my beloved 5-year old Wallaby can't!

How to get into programing WM?

Hey Guys
i'm tempted to dust off my old programming skills and try creating an app or two for WM. What dev program/language do you use to do this?

awesome and lots of great info, thanks very much!
This seems to be a common question that is hard to narrow down on the search. Would it not make sense to add this to a thread thats stickied or create its own? Maybe in the development and hacking section?
I think it has nothing to do with hacking, but it has VERY MUCH to do with programming.
I would like to break your question in 2 parts:
1) How to get into programing
2) WM
To learn programming, is a very difficult task, it can take years of your life, and if you have professional support, you will have an easier task.
Start studying something like "programming for dummies", and then pass to something more difficult:
- classes
- events
- GUI
- ...
When you learned how to make a modal window appear, how to catch Button-Pressed, Fill-ListBox, etc, just grab a VisualStudio 2005, and WM-programming will be just a breeze.
BTW, what language did u use? I'm into Asp.Net (C#) + JavaScript

The section is called "development and hacking" and it does stink of development to me

Maybe its in the wiki and I didn't see it in the mass of search results I got?
and I have a very old but very skilled programming history: 6510 and 680x0 assembler with a hint of x86 (wots all this 640k chunks all about then?)
Might have a lot of cobwebs to blow away and then get my linear head around this object malarky but should be ok.

6510 recalls Vic20 & C64. 680x0 recalls Amiga only. Am i right?
BTW, no Z80?
Almost!
Yeah Commodore 64 is correct and technicaly, as I put the x in the 680x0 then yes you would be right in thinking Amiga as it was based on the 68000 family (depending on which model you had and which expansion slot board you used, if any). That said though, the Atari ST also used the 68000 and I believe the MAC's also used the 680x0 range, some correct me on this?
Of them all though, the Amiga was the only one to do pre-emptive multitasking, something that PC's have really only just caught up with
Ciao, Monty!
I did not know that Atari used 68000 too. There were so many MicroComputers, in those "golden" years!

You right! I was so impressed, how a "simple" Amiga could do REAL multitasking almost 20 years ago, and nowdays you need a SuperComputer just to open a window (F*ck Microsoft!)
I had a normal Amiga500, plus 512Mb-expansion, just to play!
But i liked Sinclair ZX Spectrum more than C64.
And you?

O'rly? Then how do you explain the plethora of WM6.1 and WM6.5 Professional Roms in the Tornado section?
Oh and lol, "No way" are two words.
Well, it certainly is possible, but I don't see the point. And if you want, go ahead and port it to the Vox.

Thank you for the Official WM6.5 Rom mate, I love it!
the advantages of a PPC, the more applications
then it is possible? and no one one tries?
It is as possible as pointless...all the applications that would allow with this workaround are created to work with the direct input of the touchscreen...having NOT it would mean that even if it installed well the app would be unusable, unless you use a virtual pointer...which is NOT an usable solution aswell( for daily use).
This explained in plain words
SO why waste time (even days) of life to get working decently a thing that even if it runs well will be totally useless?!?!
Best Regards and Merry Christmas

[Request] Australian Developers

After speaking to a few university friends (none that know how to develop software for windows mobile). We were all interested in an application similar to the UK Rail Departures app, but for the Cityrail network in Sydney. I was curious whether there is a current application for this rail network.
I understand it may be difficult, but I'm willing to make a donation towards a developed application.
cityFAIL
yeah.... i can use an app like that
it'll be handy. instead of using 131500.info
"Sydney Transit" Tm
There is an iPhone (gag) app already developed.
While not port-able it would serve as an excellent template.
Just a thought??!!
Davej
wow... i never thought someone would suggest that!
I'd definitely find great use out of something like that too!
Although, since when do sydney's trains run according to their timetable?
+1 here. That would be very handy!

Android for the Military

Thought this was interesting. Apparently the US Army is developing their own Android apps to help coordinate frontline efforts.

Awesomeness. Thanks
sent from my Sensation XD
Is that smart?!
Usualy that devices have GPS which can give somebody exactly location of soldier...
In android they can write custom safe o/s
Unlike iphone, android is opensource so the military can review all the code and close all security holes, great choice.

Does it really matter when we can see everything on TV now and soldiers are allowed to post to social networking sites from base camp?
nice! next thing maybe they make their own OS based on android?

Almost every device in the military utilizes gps, but it is on closed, secure networks.
Android is the big thing! I tell you.
Stuff like iOS will never have so much success. People just buy those Apple crap because they think they are cool with that...
i think if every one is smart, we won't have wars...
those resources should be better spend in production/plantation...
but heck, i'm just a ordinary person, i wouldn't have understand that very well..
cool, are they coming up with there own hardware that is battle ready and field tested?
