You can get the WM2005 Evaluation from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...50-d311-4f67-9fb3-23e8b8944f3e&DisplayLang=en
Now what we need is someone to build a rom for the magician for it. Come on guys you know your s%#t better than anyone out there. Get us a working jam rom going here.
anyone has try this?
why it need large harddisk space (600MB) for temporary internet files, much bigger then we need for ROM, Extended ROM and Radio???
what is the consequencies when the 120 days trial period expired?
or maybe someone could fixed the current WM2005 bugs with this trial wm2005? just wonder, is it an emulation program for windows ce?
It's for PC not for Pocket PC, just an emulation of WM2005 and run on PC.
No it is not for PC, you must read better. It is the core operating system with emulators for PC. How do you think they develop and test roms. You think they just slap a bunch of binary code together and upload it ro a ppc and test as they go. You must have emulators to test your software. This is not only for device development but also for application developers to test their software on a OS without having to install to a ppc.
Hi,
I read it already, and I think it is WM2005 emulator only. With Software Development Kit (SDK) to create a program to run on WM2005.
I don't there is a ROM or something like a part of ROM to cook for our real device's ROM.
Best regards,
Arto.

yes it does include the SDK and emulators but also includes the platform builder to create your OWN Win CE 5 roms. Just building one now for the magician.
don't forget himalaya if you develope one.
Building as in programming and developing, or building as in compiling and installing?

The WinCE 5.0 Dev kit is around for some time now. It is not gona be easy to make a working rom for the magician. The dev kit is an standard environment to develope CE roms but you have to get or create all the hardware (magician) drivers yourself. I don't think you can create a rom for the magician just like that, but I hope you prove me wrong.
Please note that WinCE 5.0 is not equal to WM2005 ....

To my understanding, WinCE 5.0 is the core of WM2005. WM2005 is base on WinCE 5.0. So if you have WinCE 5.0 you don't have all the function(e.g. user interface) of WM2005. Please correct me if i am wrong.

i am correcting you now wen building your wince 5.0 rom you also include the user interface. Or wateva u want inside the CE ROM.
This is NOT WM2005. It is Windows CE v5, which is the core OS that is used with WM2005...but there is NO Wm2005 in it. It is an operating system without a Windows Mobile interface.
WinCE is Operating System without PocketExcel, PocketWord, etc. No licensing for those microsoft application. Also it is standard user interface, not like WM. We can say it is a Operating System without microsoft office on it.
WM is WinCE + application like PocketExcel, PocketWord, etc, completed with interface for what we see as Windows Mobile.
In my understanding, it is cheaper to use WinCE than WM

NB: Yes, you need to know the hardware and memory address for those function in specific unit to cook ROM for specific unit (magician, himalaya, etc).

Im looking for a clean os, preferably CE 5.2.19400 (Build 19199.1.0.0).
I want to have a clean base OS to start adding my fixes, applications and tools. I have tried to disect many of the "vanilla" versions from people, but even their clean versions still include a lot of garbage I dont want and is almost impossible to clean. I would rather start from a totally clean os and build up from there.
Thanks,
jay
I would also like to know this.
further, how can one be sure that a 'clean' os (or any freely downloadable rom for that matter) is free from software that snoops on you, etc?
Here is the 19400 dump
http://www.sendspace.com/file/kdincu
I wonder, is a Hermes dump usable to cook a Wizard ROM?
And you mention, "CE 5.2.19400 (Build 19199.1.0.0).". Is that newer or older than the custom ROMS that are advertised as WM 6.1 build 19209? I mean, does that mean CE 5.2.19209 build xxxxxx or CE 5.2.xxxxx build 19209?
Cheers!
CE 5.2.19400 (Build 19199.1.0.0) means OS from new build, XIP from old build.
However there are some fake ROMs that with modified OS version, this may be the case (Because official 19209 ROM is AKU 1.0.2, how come this ROM is still AKU1.0.0?)
ROMs for other devices can be used in Wizard after porting (at least OS(SYS+OEM) porting must be done). You may use XIP from other Wizard ROMs, but will show your old XIP build in the About screen.
Thanks for the explanation, it's clear now
I have an old Kitchen and a base 6.1 build with lots of customisations and 3rd party apps. I really want to get WM 6.5 on my phone but want to build it myself to get my own apps and customisations in there by default
What is the best kitchen and are there any base 6.5 builds I can use? I remember trying to decompose a 6.5 ROM a while ago and the kitchen couldn't dump it sucessfully? I haven't tried in a while so want to know where to start (again?).
I did search and there is a lot of fragmented information...
Andy
i have the same problem. i hope someone can help.
i have searched some time now for a 6.5 base rom.
I use Toradex Colibri PXA320 SBC (toradex.com/Products/Colibri/Modules/Colibri_PXA320)
Until now I use WINCE 5/6 that we compile on Microsoft Platform Builder.
How can i put Windows Mobile Rom on it?
Regards,
Tomer

Hi and welcome to XDA, Winmo is based on CE 5.2, so you will need the appropriate drivers. the sys will need to be from one of these XDA builds, good luck!!!
what exactly are development branches? I read that "development branches" are device specific. are they just build numbers where support for a specific device was introduced? I noticed that both "build numbers" (starting with wm 6 I think) and "development branches" have 5 chars. do development branches refer to just the os part of a rom or the entire rom? if so does each manufacturer add specific files (I'm thinking this explains the 'SYS' dir when dumping a ROM) like drivers and such?
is there a thread listing WM 6.1 build numbers - all I can find is WM 6.5.3 build numbers (can anyone at least offer a hint regarding what build no. does WM 6.1 end and 6.5 start?)
does the XIP part of a rom have anything to do with the development branches? is it different for each development branch?
I noticed the XIP is extracted from the FAT region of the OS and after *fast* reading some topics on Win CE on msdn I take it it contains core os files for the WM os (kernel and core dll's etc) - is this right?
I also noticed a lot of fuss about the XIP in the cooking/kitchen forums; seems one may end up with an unbootable device if an improper XIP is added to a custom rom - can anyone explain?
I'd also appreciate if someone could explain what the following parts of the OS section of a dumped rom are responsible for:
fatheader.bin
fatimg.bin
imgfs.bin
minios.bin
thanks.
