Wanted: Someone that uses VoIP now to test a rom - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Hi,
I'm not a VoIP user and I need someone that CURRENTLY USES VOIP (so if you don't use VoIP right now, please don't waste my time) to respond to me and possibly help test Crossbow Reloaded 1.7 beta. I've been told that my original rom, VoIP worked fine. I pulled it out in 1.5, and am now trying to add it back in, but to me it appears not to work.
Please PM me and let me know what rom you are currently using VoIP on, if it is working correctly (ie: you can hear the other party, and they can hear you), and what your current IPL/SPL are, and if you would be able to flash a beta rom tonight to do some testing for me.

WM6 and URGE Music service

Interesting find for anyone that uses URGE subscription music service (Windows Media Player 11). I had got real used to playing music on the Wizard while work in the yard or whatever, I have been running Faria's 3.3 ROM for several weeks at least. So this morning I take the plunge and upgrade to Faria's WM6 ROM, works great! Except URGE doens't recognize WM6 as a valid device (WM5 ONLY) so now all my subscription music won't play or sync. The songs I ripped from CD work fine, just not the downloaded protected WMA files.
I don't expect anyone to have a fix or suggestion for this as it's an issue with URGE and not the ROM, just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

I think somewhere in Farias post on the wm6 rom it said something like "and turn off DRM" i have posted Faria for help in turning it back on let you know as soon as i know
Yup. Same problem here.
See my post down the page a bit...
bump -- this should be easy!
bump -- anyone know any more about this?
it works in Faria's last ROM
Faria's ROM kitchen has the DRM module included and if you select it during the build process your music will play.
Thanks Faria for that inclusion..

Convert 8125 to web browser/video player

I recently just changed phones but do not want to get rid of my 8125 since it has built in wifi and I already have a 4gb card for it. What I want to be able to do is strip it of everything not needed to browse the web, play video and mp3, and edit some word documents. How can I go about doing this, or would this even make sense doing. I won't be using this as a phone anymore.
Thank You
you really could just turn the phone portion of the device off through comm manager and keep the wifi on... and you could just use a vanilla WM6 ROM (basic w/o any extra programs) to avoid any other programs on the phone from the flash.. i recommend Windows Mobile 6 Professional 3.0 by ANTC. It is very stable and runs fast. It is also a base ROM.
-Nstefanelli-
I forgot about turning the phone part off in the comm manager, thanks. I am going to give that a try and see how it works out with the WM6 rom. Thanks again.
No problem.. its what we're all here for.
-Nstefanelli-
I just installed the rom you mentioned, and that is probably going to work out nice, and you are right It responds much better than the one I had on there. Thanks again.
yea.. i have been testing it since yesterday afternoon and it has been working perfectly for me.. and as i said it is base so it doesnt include any other crap.. glad i helped

Noob upgrading to WM6, need help

Sup,
I posted something like this before but got no responses. I was wondering which would be the best WM6 rom for me.
I am pretty sure it is unlocked as I am using a T-Mo US sim.
My current setup is- (WM5 original came with phone)
ROM version: 1.13.64 WWE
ROM date: 09/30/05
Radio version: 1.03.00
Protocol version: 42.36.P8
ExtROM version: 1.13.151 WWE
Some of the stuff I would like is:
Stability
T-Mobile US GPRS capable
Smart dial?
No WiFi problems (I use WEP encryption)
No Bluetooth problems
SDHC
Good storage space and RAM
VGA and QVGA games to work
MMS
Works with Bluetooth GPS (Holux 240)
Looks good on a VGA screen
Stereo A2DP - not that necessary
VGA - not that necessary
Don't need video calling or 3g
Don't need VOIP
I have seen the various ones and there are too many that I cannot decide.
And can anyone recommend updates to the radio rom or is that included?
If I backup my WM5, can I restore in WM6? Does backing up backup games, programs, etc?
Thanks all for your help and thanks for such an awesome forum.
Many questions you have
All of us have been there. Unfortunately there are no BEST Rom's. You need to try them out, All of the latest builds have great stability and features (Cooker dependant). Daily there are new patches being released that make them even more stable and functional. Try ALL of them (It is pretty easy to flash the rom, and decide it for yourself!
lol ok, any recommendations?

Hi,
Do you happen to know how old that ROM is? Nov 5th 07? And should I get the Full Flavor? I don't need the RGU right? Going to download anyway but wait for responses.
Thanks Wout.

Hi,
Core is older, cooked version is something like 5/11.
and indeed get full flavor, because it has been updated (some bug fixes)
Read the wiki and also flash another radiorom (1.03 is quite old).
use 1.15 or 1.18 (you can find links to them in the wiki)
you don't need the RGU.
just try whichever wm6 rom and see if you like it.
(I change at least twice a week)
Wout
lol, twice a week? Nicee
Alright, I'm prepping for flashing, backing up all the stuff and whatnot. Just got to get ActiveSync to work properly, keeps going to guest.
Thanks a lot for your help, generousity and quick responses.
update:
radio upgraded to 1.15
waiting for battery to charge to full and start os upgrade
Sup,
Updated the OS to WM6. But a little problem though. I restored my Sprite Backup, that I used to backup WM5 settings/programs, to ROM and now Calculator and Pictures & Videos no longer have icons, they just have white boxes. When I click calculator, I get an error saying it cannot be opened. Pics and vids goes to the location, but it doesn't have the icon.
Does anyone know how to fix these???
Also, I have doubled icons for Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. There's icons in the main programs place and they have their own folder called Office which has a couple of other stuff in it.
Any solution for this to?
Also, my right softkey (contacts) is set to PocketCM, which I uninstalled. I don't know how to change it to regular contacts. I also removed SPB Pocket Plus.
I have 22.22 storage used and 21.50 free.
On boot I have 24~25 free, after use and back to everything closed, 19~20.
Is this good?
Thanks again and sorry for all the questions.
hi,
Never use a backupprogr. when flashing a new rom, mainly because of different registry settings.
Softkey can be changed in registry or with 3rth party software.
Memory going to 19/20 mb is normal.
So, do a hard reset.
(because now you registry is screwed up)
greetings,
Wout
Hello again,
I looked online and people were saying to use a backup program and one person reccommended Sprite Backup. So I used that and now this happened. Learn something new everyday. I'll keep that in mind next time. So I guess I have to reinstall all my programs again, even the ones on my mem card?
Thanks for your help.
PS, I got an error after hard resetting saying sddaemon.exe cannot be opened, either it is not signed with a trusted certificate. I hit OK and it appears to work normally.
PPS, Looks like I have to reflash the ROM,
three programs: clearvue, midilet, voice speed dial, are all not working. Along with the sddaemon error, looks like thats the wise thing to do.
PPPS, ROM reinstalled, seems to be working 100%, starting from scratch now.
Thanks all for your input!

No MMS - How Can I Enable/Add It?

Hi guys,
I downloaded a few ROM's over the last few days because I was not happy with some features or the stability of them. Eventually I decided upon Tomal's 8.81 ROM.
I am new to the HTC Universal and indeed Windows Mobile in general, though I am starting to grasp it. I purchased a Movistar version (Spanish) and corrected the keypad settings for the spanish language etc, but I have since realised that there is no MMS available on the ROM.
I actually need MMS for my business (I purchased the HTC Universal to use for business as I previously had a K800i with Opera and SSH etc running on it, but needed something better) so without MMS I cannot use the phone.
I would like to keep the phone as it is, with the ROM I have on it, because it has taken me a good few hours to set everything up as I like it, and the ROM is stable and very fast, and also has all the features I like.
So is there anyway I can add MMS to my messaging area? All I have right now is Text Message and Email, both of which are working fine. From what I understand it is not present in Windows Mobile 6, is this correct, and if so, what addon must I install to use it?
Also, as a side thought, I changed the GPRS settings to stay connected all the time and not on-demand, so the phone is connected all the time; where can I change it back to on-demand as I seem to have lost where it was.
Many thanks in advance!!
install it
Wow, this has worked a treat, many thanks friend, it is very much appreciated!!

Need native Exchange support help please

So I am brand new to Android and like it so far. I have a Vodafone HTC magic 32b. But really miss Exchange native support.
So my question is can anyone point me to ROMS that have Native Exchange support. I hear Android 2 can do this and like the sound of that. But also I hear that some 1.6 one will do it.
Please remember that I am new to android and I have found the HTC_Sapphire_Hacking site. I have flashed plenty of windows mobile in my time (those days are gladly gone now) but not done android.
Thanks
Just download dwang's rom (check my signature) or Cyanogenmod (any version) and extract the Mail.apk from it, and install on your phone.
You can extract it just by going into the zip file and having a look around, can't remember the exact location but it was easy to find.
To install the apk either use "adb" from the android SDK (adb install mail.apk) or copy it to your sd card and install it using Astro.
Hope this helps.
PS. you are better off posting in sappire general for this as your questions are not related to rom development.
Thanks for that
Great answer and will open up a new thread in the the apropriate thread as I get an error saying
--------------------------------
Application not installed
Work email could not be installed on this phone
---------------------------------
I guess i may need to flash yet
Thanks again
Need FULL Exchange support (Mail, Contacts, and Calendar) ?
If you need REAL Exchange support (not just email), you really need an HTC (not GOOGLE) branded ROM. Nearly every HERO ROM fits this criteria, but the following link provides a non-Hero ROM (EVERYTHING works, and it's FAST because it's meant for the sapphire). I've used it on two 32B Sapphires now for a couple months is it's the best ROM I can find that provides full exchanges support. Aside from not having SenseUI, I can't see any reason to run another ROM yet either. If Eclair/2.0 get perfected, that would be a reason to move because it appears to have native Exchange support built in (whereas the HTC ROMs have the support because HTC added it, not Google). I did a LOT of research to come to this conclusion.

Now that sounds like my answer, will do this tonight.
Thanks rainabba
One more question guys?
I am all ready to go but need advice on the "wipe device" option on the recovery rom.
There are half a dozen options. Which should i choose?
Thanks

This was exactly the information I was looking for. Not what I was hoping to hear, but what I was looking for.
I rooted and installed Cyanogen on my previously virgin Rogers Magic 32A, and was a little disappointed to see Exchange Calendar sync gone along with the other HTC trims.
Don't get me wrong - Cyanogen is awesome, but I'm really looking forward to a fully working Eclair ROM now... I think the ROM you link to is 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Yep, I couldn't give up all the Cyanogen goodness just because of lameExchange.
Best scenario I have come to love:
-Keep Cyanogen w/ Work Email
-Run Google Calendar Synch 2-way on the Corpo Laptop
-Export Outlook Contacts to Gmail (include frequent Co. Directory contacts)
I just keep working right along; emailing, scheduling, contacting without a hiccup (meetings pop-up, no duplicate contact bs, etc).
Exchange support
The options (I've used all three of them)...
1). Buy an app from the market that offers Exchange support (Roadsync is only US$10, works fine... safest option, as it doesn't involve flashing a ROM).
2). Get a custom rom that supports it. The 2 general types that I've used include Hero ROMs and ROMs based upon the Rogers phones. Hero is too slow for me, however, and the Rogers ROMs don't even have Donut yet.
3). Get an Eclair ROM. I'm currently using Eugene's AOSP, and while there are some issues (no camera, sync loop), the Exchange support is pretty nice. It's not completely clear to me, but I think the Exchange calendar suppport comes from a Moto app that was sucked off the Droid. Eclair offers calendar and mail sync with Exchange natively.
You can choose which one works best for you. For the longest time, I was running cyanogen with Roadsync, and had no problems whatsoever.
@hackitall and @jstegeman
Good posts both. Thanks for that.
I think for me I like hackitall's kluge... at least until a more stable Eclair ROM is out. It doesn't have to be cyanogen, but at least stable with all of the "normal" features like camera, etc.
At the breakneck development pace, I'd expect this sooner than later. Happy times.

Not to take anything from the great Cyanogen, but what "goodness" is lost with the Rogers ROM (or do you even know)?
BTW, your solution is beyond a PITA. I know because I tried it and a number of other "solutions" before realizing that it was all a waste of time for someone like myself that needs REAL syncing (not exporting contacts for example). Also, if you're willing to pay for a Google corp account, might as well save the hassle and buy a license for cemaphore. It does all the syncing w/o any of the BS.

Two words: Google Navigation
It's totally awesome and requires 1.6... at least I haven't seen anyone supporting it on 1.5 yet.
Ahh
Ok, i guess if I wasn't already running 2.0 on a droid, didn't have such a need for Exchange support, and/or didn't already have nDrive or my Alpine Navi unit, that would make sense
Well seing as I asked the question I thought I would say thanks for all the great help and advice.
I have ended up with roadsync on the origional rom.
I did try every rom out there 2 buggy, HERO Sssllllllooooowwwwww built in exchange support on 1.6 did not work with exchange at work (not enough security)
Great fun
