WM6 and URGE Music service - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Interesting find for anyone that uses URGE subscription music service (Windows Media Player 11). I had got real used to playing music on the Wizard while work in the yard or whatever, I have been running Faria's 3.3 ROM for several weeks at least. So this morning I take the plunge and upgrade to Faria's WM6 ROM, works great! Except URGE doens't recognize WM6 as a valid device (WM5 ONLY) so now all my subscription music won't play or sync. The songs I ripped from CD work fine, just not the downloaded protected WMA files.
I don't expect anyone to have a fix or suggestion for this as it's an issue with URGE and not the ROM, just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
Russ

I think somewhere in Farias post on the wm6 rom it said something like "and turn off DRM" i have posted Faria for help in turning it back on let you know as soon as i know

Yup. Same problem here.
See my post down the page a bit...

bump -- this should be easy!

bump -- anyone know any more about this?

it works in Faria's last ROM
Faria's ROM kitchen has the DRM module included and if you select it during the build process your music will play.
Thanks Faria for that inclusion..

Convert 8125 to web browser/video player

I recently just changed phones but do not want to get rid of my 8125 since it has built in wifi and I already have a 4gb card for it. What I want to be able to do is strip it of everything not needed to browse the web, play video and mp3, and edit some word documents. How can I go about doing this, or would this even make sense doing. I won't be using this as a phone anymore.
Thank You
you really could just turn the phone portion of the device off through comm manager and keep the wifi on... and you could just use a vanilla WM6 ROM (basic w/o any extra programs) to avoid any other programs on the phone from the flash.. i recommend Windows Mobile 6 Professional 3.0 by ANTC. It is very stable and runs fast. It is also a base ROM.
-Nstefanelli-
I forgot about turning the phone part off in the comm manager, thanks. I am going to give that a try and see how it works out with the WM6 rom. Thanks again.
No problem.. its what we're all here for.
-Nstefanelli-
I just installed the rom you mentioned, and that is probably going to work out nice, and you are right It responds much better than the one I had on there. Thanks again.
yea.. i have been testing it since yesterday afternoon and it has been working perfectly for me.. and as i said it is base so it doesnt include any other crap.. glad i helped

TCPMP frozen videos. Why?

For three days I am testing the new TnT5. "It's right" has shown that all meals function amazingly well and fast.
Several days ago, I sought to fix a problem with TCPCMP: AVI files stored on my SD function well (98%).
I only have problems with files "MP4", which in the version TnT4 worked beautifully. These files works, but freezing every half second. This problem is not happened to me in the TnT4.
I hope someone can help me, otherwise I will have to return to the "TnT4 "....
I am very grateful to all my friends in the forum !
Donate if you really want to keep the working up.
Please DONATE,
here is a lot of work.
GerardoZZ, your post friend.
advices by old ppc user..
- buy normal ppc
- use good rom,
- you do not want to play HDTV, right(keyword: pocketdixvencoder)?,
- change menu start/options/video/ video driver to.. sth.
- use good tcpmp packs ,
- wmv videos are CATASTROPHY(keyword: conversion). whatever you do(but: conversion).
- wrong cache values/tcpmp settings,
now, you may donate me
One posible solution, but
There could be a good solution, but videos stored in my SD played with no problem in previous TNT relases.
So I think, there is any trouble with this rom, or Im making something wong.. Think I flashed my Cingular at least 50 times, that isn´t a guaranty, but isn´t my firt time..
thanks for your time, maybe sometime can I help you

so
- use good rom?
i flashed >100 times to make my personal rom as good i i needed to.
(btw i have >30k views of my tcpmp posts - somewhere).
i do not have problem with my wiz.
other thing is to test other tcpmp pack with TNT(it was good build.as far i remember,,,last build is broken somehow?)
- erase all tcpmp reg entries and then use other pack.
i.e. that one(installation cab)..
http://www.mm.pl/~xoen/nothinpacktcpmpwiz.cab
not reg preconfigured, though.
i cannot provide reg entries that may be reason(if it is tcpmp/caches/gdi/gapi/screen problem) now.
good luck.
At this moment....
I´m using Tnt5 rom at moment, last editon.
I haven´t this problem in previous relases...
I can use other formats, but you know we want us systems fully functionally!
Thats my idea.

Noob upgrading to WM6, need help

Sup,
I posted something like this before but got no responses. I was wondering which would be the best WM6 rom for me.
I am pretty sure it is unlocked as I am using a T-Mo US sim.
My current setup is- (WM5 original came with phone)
ROM version: 1.13.64 WWE
ROM date: 09/30/05
Radio version: 1.03.00
Protocol version: 42.36.P8
ExtROM version: 1.13.151 WWE
Some of the stuff I would like is:
Stability
T-Mobile US GPRS capable
Smart dial?
No WiFi problems (I use WEP encryption)
No Bluetooth problems
SDHC
Good storage space and RAM
VGA and QVGA games to work
MMS
Works with Bluetooth GPS (Holux 240)
Looks good on a VGA screen
Stereo A2DP - not that necessary
VGA - not that necessary
Don't need video calling or 3g
Don't need VOIP
I have seen the various ones and there are too many that I cannot decide.
And can anyone recommend updates to the radio rom or is that included?
If I backup my WM5, can I restore in WM6? Does backing up backup games, programs, etc?
Thanks all for your help and thanks for such an awesome forum.
Many questions you have
All of us have been there. Unfortunately there are no BEST Rom's. You need to try them out, All of the latest builds have great stability and features (Cooker dependant). Daily there are new patches being released that make them even more stable and functional. Try ALL of them (It is pretty easy to flash the rom, and decide it for yourself!
lol ok, any recommendations?

Hi,
Do you happen to know how old that ROM is? Nov 5th 07? And should I get the Full Flavor? I don't need the RGU right? Going to download anyway but wait for responses.
Thanks Wout.

Hi,
Core is older, cooked version is something like 5/11.
and indeed get full flavor, because it has been updated (some bug fixes)
Read the wiki and also flash another radiorom (1.03 is quite old).
use 1.15 or 1.18 (you can find links to them in the wiki)
you don't need the RGU.
just try whichever wm6 rom and see if you like it.
(I change at least twice a week)
Wout
lol, twice a week? Nicee
Alright, I'm prepping for flashing, backing up all the stuff and whatnot. Just got to get ActiveSync to work properly, keeps going to guest.
Thanks a lot for your help, generousity and quick responses.
update:
radio upgraded to 1.15
waiting for battery to charge to full and start os upgrade
Sup,
Updated the OS to WM6. But a little problem though. I restored my Sprite Backup, that I used to backup WM5 settings/programs, to ROM and now Calculator and Pictures & Videos no longer have icons, they just have white boxes. When I click calculator, I get an error saying it cannot be opened. Pics and vids goes to the location, but it doesn't have the icon.
Does anyone know how to fix these???
Also, I have doubled icons for Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. There's icons in the main programs place and they have their own folder called Office which has a couple of other stuff in it.
Any solution for this to?
Also, my right softkey (contacts) is set to PocketCM, which I uninstalled. I don't know how to change it to regular contacts. I also removed SPB Pocket Plus.
I have 22.22 storage used and 21.50 free.
On boot I have 24~25 free, after use and back to everything closed, 19~20.
Is this good?
Thanks again and sorry for all the questions.
hi,
Never use a backupprogr. when flashing a new rom, mainly because of different registry settings.
Softkey can be changed in registry or with 3rth party software.
Memory going to 19/20 mb is normal.
So, do a hard reset.
(because now you registry is screwed up)
greetings,
Wout
Hello again,
I looked online and people were saying to use a backup program and one person reccommended Sprite Backup. So I used that and now this happened. Learn something new everyday. I'll keep that in mind next time. So I guess I have to reinstall all my programs again, even the ones on my mem card?
Thanks for your help.
PS, I got an error after hard resetting saying sddaemon.exe cannot be opened, either it is not signed with a trusted certificate. I hit OK and it appears to work normally.
PPS, Looks like I have to reflash the ROM,
three programs: clearvue, midilet, voice speed dial, are all not working. Along with the sddaemon error, looks like thats the wise thing to do.
PPPS, ROM reinstalled, seems to be working 100%, starting from scratch now.
Thanks all for your input!

Suggested ROM & Updates? - T-Mobile SDA

I have a very standard T-mobile USA SDA running WM5. In addition to phone, I mostly use it for email, occasional browsing, maps using Pocket Streets and for music using the player. I am thinking about doing one of the ROM upgrades. Is WM6 or 6.1 worth the effort? I've heard that a few of the non-TMO OEM roms (like SP5m WM5) work well and they upgrade the radio -- which would probably be a good thing since my SDA has always been a little light on signal holding.
Anyway, any suggestions on what to are welcome. I've read Karhoe's guides so I think I can tackle all the techy stuff. I have a backup phone in case I royally screw up. My SDA is unlocked and ready to be violated.
Definatively worth it. I recommend the rickwyatt build http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406716
The panel interface is beautiful and fast. Media Player is great from the home page.
Hey there, same phone and USA T-mobile service here.
You are in luck as rickwyat just gave us a final version of rom he worked on and I can say its great (awsome in US english)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406716
check Kar Hoe's "Upgrading HTC Tornado to Windows Mobile 6.1"
http://karhoe.net/content/view/21/1/
and ejoy,
wecome to xda forums btw
I did the RickWyatt ROM and found that it doesn't support voice tags. It is nice though. Regardless, I reflashed with the Nitro WM6 Platinum. That seems to have what I need. Now if I could just get my media player hard keys to work (I actually use them) as fwd, back & play/pause, that would be great.
I have a tmobile sda, upgraded to wm6 (don't remember which rom) and i love it. If you aren't afraid of flashing the ROm, totally go for it.
it fixed many things for me
1) date resetting when battery removed (although this is supposed due to the radio update, not wm6 itself)
2)I had the stuck in headset mode problem. wm6 fixed it for me (although others haven't been so lucky)
3) runs faster, smoother...
Oh, but there is one thing I miss from the tmobile rom, one of the standard ringtones I loved... but unfortunately it is not on wm6.... so, BACK UP THE RINGTONES if there are any you like.
-and- back up all your contacts with PPCPimbackup since one wrong move in MS outlook will delete all your contacts (i swear i had the right boxes checked but i still lost all my phone numbers )
RealSkier I was gonna ask if you could send me the ring tones from the original Tmobile sda rom.... but it looks like I am too late with this message and my advice haha
if anyone still has the ringtones from the original sda rom, please if you could get in contact with me. I miss one of them so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you,
ian

Rhapsody and WM6.5

Any of you guys running rhapsody and a 6.5 rom? Every rom I've tried doesn't allow me to authorize the storage card for subscription music.
Thanks in advance.
same problem here..
was bummed by that..went back to 6.1 because of that and the timelock issue - which I could not remove..
any help others? I know rhapsody came out with an app for the iphone - the biggest issue with that is that it mandates having an internet connection to even play any songs - and by definition a data plan!

I think the issue we're looking at here is DRM rather than anything to do with Rhap itself. Remember that Rhapsody actually uses windows media player to synchronize the files, and what you'll find is that in 6.5 roms (every one I've tried so far), and a number of 6.1 roms, WMP does not recognize the device as being able to play subscription content.
My theory is that this is due to either the DRM subsystem not recognizing the custom rom, missing one of it's files, or being removed by the person putting together the rom. Another possibility with 6.5 is that Active Sync and/or WMP do not recognize the 6.5 version yet and reject it out of hand. DRM, being designed as digital security, is going to be, by definition, difficult to work with in a custom environment.
I'm in the same boat, like 6.5 roms, but I used my phone for portable music as well, and have been forced back into 6.1 roms. (looking for a 6.1 with TF3D2.1 right now that works with DRM and Rhap..)
not that it helps but same issue here on the incite 6.5 roms .. i feel ur pain man
Any updates on this? Still seems to not work on any 6.5 ROMs.
I've been told (I can't confirm it) that Rhapsody To Go will sync with the new 6.5 Verizon ROM. There must be some way to use that ROM to fix Rhapsody in cooked ROMs
Add me to the list...
I just upgraded from AT&T stock ROM to a fantastic 6.5 ROM by Tael (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585129). Now I can't authorize my device or storage card. It's gotta be some DRM stuff that's not cooked in, hard-SPL that breaks it, or something like it that is related to running non-stock. The Intewebs offer no help... Whaaaaaaa!
