HTC Innovation, HTC Tornado: arent they the same thing?

Hey
I went over to the smartphone section just now and i noticed you had two seperate sub-forums for the same phone:
The HTC Innovation (XDA IQ) and the HTC Tornado (SP5,8310,577w)
are these two handsets exactly the same thing? and htc innovation isnt that just their slogan?! its on my sp3i under the battery too!
just thought id point it out!
This was the reason why we created a separate forum for it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280317
Tornado and Innovation are codenames for two very similar HTC devices, but not exactly the same device, I don't really know the difference:
http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/review/htc-tornado-firstlook-en.shtml
http://www.mobilegazette.com/o2-xda-iq-0605x12.htm
if anyone can point, would be good to know
i think HTC Innovation isn't a product,HTC Innovation just like :"Nokia Conneting People" ,because all new HTC product's label have "HTC Innovation",i have O2 XDA IQ and Qtek 8310,make sure it's HTC Tornado.
request to compare roms
Hi,
We can't seem to make sure whethere these devices are the same or not.
Could someone compare the rom upgrades to make sure?
Thanks in advance!

Almost... but not quite...
I believe that the IQ is a 'sub'-set or perhaps 'super'-set of the Tornado... I've seen the IQ referred to as the HTC Tornado Noble somewhere, and it seems there are slight differences.
Having said that I have used many cabs/apps from the Tornado which all work very well on my IQ!!
Call rasied with HTC
I've raised a call with HTC. They're normally quite helpfull (sometimes a bit slow).
I'll give an update when I get a response.
these phones are the same platform
please unite the forums to save the space and confusion
XDA IQ IS a Tornado
Innovation is a slogan of HTC's that appears on all their Smartphones, not a model name and the XDA IQ IS the HTC Tornado platform as already mentioned by members jsp_m and spkr4thdd.
It has been shown that once CID unlocked the XDA IQ will accept any HTC Tornado rom.
My understanding is that internal hardware-wise the XDA IQ is identical to the i-mate SP5 and Qtek 8310 with even the case being identical but for different branding.
hey
thank you!
the two phones are in fact one and the same! HTC Innovation is the company slogan.
as jsp_m said, unite the forums!
Hi Guys,
I moved all the posts in the innovation forum to tornado and closed the innovation forum for posting.

Prophet may get a official WM6 upgrade?

Please check the info from pocketpcthoughts.com ( http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=431833&sid=8677d091b08c0302e3ced2b69c56c152),
".................I asked Jason Gordon, Senior Manager of Communications for HTC America, for an official response to this, and he sent me this:
"HTC and its carrier partners will have Windows Mobile 6 upgrades available for a variety of recently released devices. We will continue to work with these partners to provide additional upgrades based on market need."
No further details, but it seems obvious that HTC will have some upgrades to Windows Mobile 6 coming out. Good news for all of us! "
Will our loved prophet be included in their upgrade list? Any more infomation?
What do you guys think?
dont think imate will release one, they kind of stop supporting htc product.
maybe only dopod and HTC brand will have a little chance to uprade to wm6. let's pray.

Since HTC has let us know that it will not roll out WM6.0 ROM's for currently devices running 5.0. I think HTC doens't agree with "Let's pray" but wants to hear you say: "Let's pay..".
I have heard that the Treo 750 is going to get an upgrade to WM6.0. But this is a Palm device, and not a device comming from HTC.
ok
So let's keep on make the wm6 roms dat we have more stable and secure...
He said it all!
"HTC and its carrier partners will have Windows Mobile 6 upgrades available for a variety of recently released devices"
The Prophet has been discontinued already!!!
By new I guess he meant devices that came out on the last couple of months or so...
yes, even if it doesnt come out specifically for the s200, there are other ti omap 200mhz devices out there like the s200 that have just come out. correct me if im not mistaken, but it would then be easier to dump a custom rom for the prophet then?

HTC & WM6

HTC will release free upgrade to WM6 for many devices (Advantage, TyTN, S620, P4350, P3300), bun not for Universal:
http://www.europe.htc.com/z/pdf/press/WM6_statement_v6.pdf
However there is the possibility for others devices, so... let's write to HTC for that!
Bye bye
I have spoken to someone who is in close contact with HTC Europe. This document was not supposed to be released yet! It is not official yet and can be changed in the meantime.
Besides that, he told me that e-mailing HTC for an update of the Universal has no use. The only way that might work is e-mailing T-Mobile for a WM6 upgrade of the MDA Pro. If T-Mobile asks HTC, they will do it for sure. And with the resources in the ROM, the cooks can do their work.
So, let's start e-mailing T-Mobile.

Thats a very cool idea.
I wrote to HTC 'cos i have a Qtek...
Well, I have written to T-Mobile....
I wrote to HTC in mid-March and they told me that "There is no official decision yet..." and sugested me to "... check back in a few weeks."
After seeing the draft link posted above, I wrote to them again but have not yet received any acknowledgement from them.
If HTC didnt put the devices in that PDF, than there will be no upgrade (most likely)
I just got the official statement on msmobiles. (lost the URL, so no link)
Edit: Found it http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6269.html
So what was the point of that post? Its the same info (exactly!) as in the first one, so thanks for clearing up nothing!
There are only HTC-branded devices in PDF. No operator-branded ones.

Well what you added to the thead is ofcourse of great importance.
The only thing HTC leaves open is that it will talk to mobile operators to see if there is a great demand for an upgrade for a certain device. If so... there is a chance that an actual upgrade may appear.
Edit: the link to the PDF is dead.
This link is OK:

It's a copy of the original document.

che minchioni (qui posso dire le parolacce tanto siamo pochi a capirci)

Any news? HTC did not answer me.. Maybe because I have a Qtek 9000..
But I don't know who i have to write to!
I wrote to T-Mobile and HTC. T-Mobile responded quite fast with the answer that there will be no upgrade, and if i have an MDA Pro and I flash a non T-Mobile rom I will get disconnected... Tough talk from them. Thank goodness I have an unbranded Qtek 9000
HTC hasnt answered

Petition for official WM6 update

Hey guys, while searching around I came across this petition:
To: HTC Headquarters
We, the undersigned, would like to request that HTC releases an official Windows Mobile 6 Professional ROM for the HTC Universal PocketPC Phone.
We do believe that it is unfair, to say the least, to spend up to $1300 or €1000 for a Pocket PC phone, and not have a proper after-sales support in terms of OS upgrades, just one and a half year afterwards.
We do not understand HTC's decision to provide free WM6 upgrades to other PDA models, such as the HTC Advantage, the HTC TyTn, the HTC S620, the HTC P3300, and the HTC 4350, due to them being focused in messaging, and leaving out the HTC Universal, a PocketPC which, due to it's unique shape and hardware QWERTY keyboard, remains highly focused on messaging, office work, and internet browsing.
Over the past months, a number of "cooked" WM6 ROMs for the HTC Universal were released on unofficial websites. Those ROMs, even though being unofficial and thus having a ton of problems, proved to be superior from WM5, both in terms of PocketPC and phone usability, and numerous people use them for everyday use.
So, we kindly request HTC to consider the possibility of releasing at least a Windows Mobile 6 Professional WWE English ROM for the HTC Universal.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned

HTC is the manufacturer of the device HTC Universal. Imate just rebranded it as JasJar. If HTC doesn't do it. No way I-mate will.

Nothing. It surely won't be released in the near future. (Say, the next 6 months.) That is, you'll need to look elsewhere if you want something excellent: S-E XPERIA X1 or Gigabyte GSmart MS808 : http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1128
on HTC Omni
I reckon this device will be launched in March 2008. It will come out during the time when Imate 9502 and Toshiba 920 is launched... It will be nice to change a PDA during that time as there are 2 choices. Which would u buy?
Toshiba looks Great!! and tired of waiting omni!! Guess time come to do a change from HTC.
Guys and gals, I’ve just posted a HUGE roundup & quick review of i-mate’s all four new devices to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1967268
Just posted Part II of my MWC New Devices article, fully packed with pics & links: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1983172 . I've THOROUGHLY elaborated on a LOT of new devices – certainly worth a read!
Hate to bump an old thread, but... WHAT THE HECK happened to the HTC Omni? Did HTC just decide to leave it in the dust?
