My T Mobile SDA Tornado wont Active Sync ! , only charges!! help! - HTC Tornado

Just bought it off ebay. now i plug to laptop it just charges , active sync wont find it. I tried ver 4.2 and 4.5 and 2 different laptops (the phone only charges). Now the phone is network locked and has no sim it in it, it should still active sync right? (the os fully boots without it). Please someone gimmie some insight so I know if i have to return the phone

Yes it still should sync without a SIM..maybe you are having a problem with ActiveSync..try to use USBSwitch/USBKiller, install then switch to Serial..
Or try to check if USB is allowed to connect to ActiveSync on its options
ActiveSync - File - Connection Settings

alright ill give it a shot when I get home and then report back.
This phone cost me around 130$ and UPS charged me 57$ on delivery!!!!!
I guess when ordering ebay never choose UPS shipping and always mark as gift right..., best to go with private sales and ask them to mark as gift .The phone also came back full of scratches and dings!!! (not as listed). I really hope this usb killer app will work (still uses usb cable right?) or else ill be out money

Also try temporarily shutting off firewall/antivirus applications, Norton in particular takes a lot of adjustment to allow activesync to work.

Why the $57? Customs? Where did it come from; where was it going to?

Problem to Active Sync SDA
Turn Off the Windows Firewall and try again for me this working fine
Thanks dm251z

i had the same problem, replacing the usb cable worked! try a new usb cable!

Well, first thing I would try is another USB Cable. Second, if you have a modern laptop with BlueTooth, try active sync via blue tooth. If that works, you know its not an Active Sync problem and its a hardware problem. Either cable or phone's usb.

Ive installed the wrong ROM, HELP !!!!!

I have installed the wizard ROM on my SPV m600. No excuses, I got the files mixed up and didn't check before I installed. The only way I can get anything to happen is to plug into the mains then I can get into the 3 color screen by holding camera for 5-7 seconds. If plugged into the PC the screen just flashes.
I know its a long shot but is my phone really dead ?????
Any suggestions really appreciated.
If you get those EXE ROM upgrade files from the xda-dev ftp, you ought to able to flash your phone from the 3 colour screen even if activesync is not working. I'm not sure about prophet, but you can try those EXE ROM upgrades files that has something like `no-ID` tag on their name.
Thanks for your advice but I cant plug it into the pc to do anything. It just flashes ? Also, I'm new to this site. Could you tell me what they are and how to get the EXE ROM upgrade files please.
After reading through a fem posts, there seems to be a way of accessing through a terminal program "mtty.exe" have you heard of this ?
Thanks
Do u get USB connectivity, if not then try SD Backup while plugging in main.
No USB connection at all, however, wescomm.exe does start. Ative sync dose not do anything. I will try the SD Backup method and post the result here after work.
Thanks

Did U get any success??
None :-( It's stuffed, I have tried everything now. If only there was a way to read from the sd card while plugged into the wall socket. I had the idea of building a cable that splits. One end is plugged into the mains, then split the cable and run a standard usb cable into it from the PC ???? Just an idea. I have tried using an Ipod wall charger with USB slot (the same output) and an external hard drive caddy cable with two USB's one into the Ipod charger and one into the PC, then the other end into the PDA. It just flashed as though it was just plugged into the PC with a data cable !!!!
Any other suggestions would be great. Its so depressingnot having my faithfull device, I even went out and bought a razr V3, while I wait to get it sorted. Deffo not the same........
I found a place in London that claims they can sort it for £29.00 plus postal & insurance costs. I'll check it out first, I have family in London who can verify the place. I suppose if they can sort it for that price, its worth posting details of the company.

I posted it to London. Will post what happens.
Does this place in london has a website so may check it?
Yep, its www.turnonyourmobile.com
They are unable to fix my phone, The ROM cant be accessed to be written to ? They have suggested I call orange and see if they can do anything.

PC's don't see my Fuze no more?

I haven't plugged my fuze into any PC's for a couple of months - last time I did it was with a Windows 7 machine and it worked fine....
Well - now I'm trying to get the thing to sync with an XP machine. When I plug it into the usb, I see the fuze is charging - but activesync never comes up and nothing on the pc indicates that is saw me do this.
I've tried with 3 different XP machines here today - and none of them realize I've plugged anything in when I connect my fuze?
Soo...must be something with my fuze? Anyone have any ideas?
Only thing I saw was in settings/connections/usb to pc
there is an option for "enable advanced network functionality" - which I have disabled.
FYI I'm running WM 6.5 on it....
All previous reports of this issue ended with bad USB port on Fuze but you may want to search and read a couple of the threads first.
Interesting.
I can't seem to find any of these treads - can you point me to any?
Seems rather odd that if the port was bad that the phone would still charge though....
Let me ask you this, you say that you changed your PC to USB settings to Enable Advanced network functionality, I thought this setting was in Active Sync. USB to PC setting should be to "enable faster data transmission". Have you played with both settings?
Here is one recent thread and I know I saw another that mentioned the device would charge but not sync.
Here are many more threads regarding AS issues.

I'm using WM 6.5 - and there I see:
settings/connections/USBtoPC
..that brings up a window which has settings on the behavior of the device when you connect it to a pc via USB. The options are to a) ActiveSync or b) DiskDrive
If you select a) ActiveSync you can "enable advanced network functionality"
There is also an option at the bottom that will cause it to ask which connection type to use when you connect.
I've tried all possible combinations - my pc does nothing when I connect, but I *do* see the fuze charging...freakn strange!
Have you tried to connect through an emulator like MyMobiler?
Its most likely a driver issue on your phone.
Hate to say it but.....
If all else fails, Hard Reset, flash back to stock ROM (if you've flashed a cooked ROM) and this should restore the corrupt driver.

MyMobiler uses activesync to connect so that won't really be of any help at this point...
I was considering doing a hard-reset - but MAN I have about 140 apps installed and configured so I really hate doing that. What would be nice is if I could just find the driver and try that.
So that I suppose is my next question - anyone got the driver? hahaha
I use Pocket Controller which can use an IP address instead, I assumed MyMoblier was similar.
Copy the enclosed .dll to your windows directory using something like total commander because it is a cooked in system file. It still may not allow it though.
You should also look into Sashimi restoral program, as it is not uncommon to have to hard reset occassionally.
Good luck!
Is a firewall blocking it?
Each time I want to sync my Fuze, I have to disable my firewall. For some reason, even when I open the correct ports, my Fuze will not sync to Windows Mobile Device Center on my Vista Ultimate (32-bit) laptop.
Once it connects, I can turn the firewall back on and everything works fine. New and changed items will continue to sync until the Fuze is disconnected from laptop.
You may have already checked this and/or things may be different with XP and AS, but since I didn't specifically see it in the post, I thought I would throw it out there.
Bad cable???
I decided to try a different mini-usb cable and it worked.
Here is what is strange though - the bad cable:
1. Still charges the phone when connected to a PC
2. Works fine with my external 500gig USB hard drive (which also is powered via the cable)
3. ...but no computers see the phone with this cable - or see it as a storage device.
Because of #1 and #2 above - I assumed the cable must be good. I had another cable so I figured I'd give it a shot - and sure enough with this cable it works with all the computers.
I guess there must be one bad pin or something with the cable - or something??? Guess it must use different ones than the external hard-drive apparently.
Oh well - at least it works and rather it be a $2 cable than my $200 phone...hahaha
Thanks everyone for the suggestions....
For what it's worth if anyone stumbles across this post in the future, I had a similar issue happen where it would bring up the usb menu on my fuze when you plug it in, but the computer wouldn't see it.
I had recently swapped the display/touchscreen, and it was one of the strips of metal ground/shielding tape inside the thing being mispositioned that did it.
Put it back together with everything in the right place and boom! works.
If you've taken the phone apart, those pieces of shielding tape are very important to get back exactly like they were, I've also seen lcd issues from it.

Activesync problem

Hi.
When i connect my touch pro to my laptop my touch pro thinks he is charging. I tried another laptop/cabel/ROM but it doens't matter.
I can't get a connection with my phone.
Any idea's?
Don't you get asked, what to do, when you connect the TP to your laptop?
Maybe it connects as Harddisk? Do you get a removable device in your laptops file explorer after connecting?
Check settings of your TP in connections - USB to PC.

Hi,
No, i don't get asked and the settings are good.
It's strange, because it is suddenly.
I had this problem last week and it turned out to be the cable I was using....but I guess you already tried that. How many cables you try? Maybe get another one and try it...

Well, i tried 3 different cables. The only thing i changed is the cable in my car. last week i was i Italy and by car charger has gone dead. And i buyed another one. that's all..
Anyone?...
hardreset?
Hard-reset, new ROM, new Radio... nothing helps
Reinstall activesync.
Try another laptop/computer.
Otherwise I don't know.

Deed.. nothing
Maybe you can find some new ideas here.
my phone sometimes just charges without activesync but that's only when i have wifi on 0.o if i turn wifi off then the phone syncs.
No luck... tried everything.
Well,I have similar issue with AS.
It starts suddenly and now I am unable to connect.
When I have enabled "Faster data synchronization",then the green icon keeps rotating for a while, but ends with an errormessage. When I uncheck it,AS absolutely doesn't see TP,no attempt.
My cable is working, because I am synchronizing also a HTC Hurricane(SDA2) without any problems.
I have also tried another PC,no luck, same symptoms.
Mass Storage and Internet sharing is working also perfectly.
Mainly I tought, that the IP connection is firewalled, but when it doesn't work also on another PC,that was working before,I have no more ideas.

[Q] WM 6.5 - 'Charge Only Mode'

I am looking for a tweak\tool\registry hack (if possible) to have a Charge Only Mode for Windows Mobile 6.5 if at all it is possible. Most of the times, I am at office using my HD2 (Dual boot with 6.5 and DarkStone Android ) connected to the Laptop and it would be great if I can just connect it to my laptop without choosing either of the three options
1. ActiveSync
2. USB Storage Mode
3. Internet Sharing
P.S : I did lot of search for this option but was unable to find it and hence started this thread...but I will be more than happy if anyone can redirect me to an existing thread if any, for the same issue.
When your phone is charging off the laptop do you actually use any apps on it?
I'm like you in that I spend 2 days a week with my phone charging from the laptop, but I never use it for anything other than phone calls, so selecting disk drive does the job for me.
Any apps I'd need, I'd make sure were installed on the device.

Better use the active sync or the mass storage mode..As it is you wont be needing to install apps on your memory card thanks to the massive storage of the HD2 compared to the older WM devices...This shouldn't be a problem IMHO...
Cheers.
Ive got a really easy fix for this, just use a different cable, you can get cables or adaptors that will charge only and wont sync. When you want to sync just change the cable or take off the adaptor.
btw... such an adaptor is only £2.50 from amazon for my phone

This doesn't stop the action as such, but when you connect your phone to PC, with the 3 options you listed, there should be a a check box at the bottom "Don't ask me again", so whatever you choose will automatically happen next time (choosing USB storage will therefore not ativate ActiveSync/Device Centre on your PC. This can also be found under Settings->Other (miscellaneous settings)->USB to PC (see attachment).
Or, just use a wall socket charger?
Hi,
Thanks for your replies ! The reason I asked this question is because I do not have a Data Plan on Phone. I only use Wifi at home and office and Active Sync kills it. Data storage mode won't let me use the Storage which I kinda need (Don't ask me why? ) and ofcourse Internet sharing Mode just sends the phone into a crazy 'Connecting 3G Network'...loop.
Anyways, I think using the Charge Only Cable should do the trick for now..But I still feel that this mode will be helpful for few rares like me...Love tis mode in Android.

ActiveSync does not kill my Wifi - make sure the 'Allow wireless connections on device...' is checked under File->Connections Settings. Also ActiveSync should allow your phone to use your PC's internet connection (pass through) anyway.
The other thing to try is to delete the mobile device from within ActiveSsync as if you've never synced it before and when you next connect it it will ask you to set up a relationship but click cancel and - viola - should now just charge.

No "Allow Wireless Connection on Device" option. I am using Windows 7.. Not sure if it is present in WMDC.
ActiveSync Passthrough does not work..I am on a encrypted network with authentication based Proxies..whole bunch of them.....
I do not want to kill the ActiveSync relationship since it syncs everything with my PC.
I think I am bothering a lot over this stupid requirement.. so I will just close this thread (If I can) but if I find anything I will post it here, for someone else who might be in similar situation.
Thanks anyways...XDA rocks !!!

Yea... I think it has a lot to do with the placement of the port on the phone and and a filmsy input. I tried tried a sturdier cable and it works waaaaay better.
Samsung support did offer to send me a prepaid envelope for my cable. ... then wait 2 weeks for testing... then if it was found to be defective a replacement would be shipped free of charge, but if it was defective due to user abuse then they said they'd send me a repair bill........... SERIOUSLY wtf?
I'm not kidding, this was their solution when I spoke to support.
Well it really was the cable, went out and bought a new one, exactly the same and it works fine, so the one i got in the box was faulty, after some googling it seems this has happened to a fair bit a of people already,
i still use the crappy cable to charge with... although it did stop charging half way through once :silly:

I'm having the same problem with Galaxy S7. It keeps disconnecting data after it has been plugged in a few seconds. It's not a cable issue, I've checked on 8 different cables.

Flash a different ROM. I had this on my s6 e+ on stock nougat. I went to Dr ketan ROM and it stopped
I heard it could be due to using a fast charging cable. The phone attempts to draw out more current than the USB port of the computer allows, forcing it to disconnect/reconnect repeatedly. Try using an older/less-current-rated cable. Alternatively, if you don't actually need to access the files and are just charging the phone, you can go to Window's Auto Play (search in start menu) and set your phone to "Take No Action"
I wanted to throw out a few other tricks to try, for whoever comes across this old thread when googling.
I don't 100% have an idea of why this happens, or why this worked, but it did.
First thing is, the cable really does matter. If you're using a cheapo cable that doesn't do fast charging, or a data-only cable, get a nice cable. If you're using a nice cable, try a non-fast-charge cable or the one that came with the phone.
My fast-charging cable has worked for a while but I recently tried to transfer a large 2 gig movie to the phone's secondary SD card, and it kept disconnecting / timing out.
What worked for me is go to developer options (google it, there's some code you have to enter to unlock these settings) and then usb debugging. It was disabled and I enabled it. The transfer then worked smoothly.
Weirdly, another transfer right after did NOT go smoothly, and the fix for me was to disable usb debugging, then enable it again. Then the file transferred normally, even though it took a few minutes.
Lastly, one file refused to transfer that was sitting in a particular folder. I'd get an error instantly. The folder was the cache folder for a popular video downloading app. Even a tiny text file from that folder, refused to copy. But files from other folders worked. I finally figured out that for whatever reason, the phone (or maybe windows) didn't like copying straight from this folder. Not sure why. Some permissions thing? Anyway - I copied the file I wanted from the cache folder, to a folder I use all the time. Then from this new folder to the phone. Worked smoothly, no error.
Hope these tricks help someone.
