I know this isn't a wm6 question, but I do know this is the most viewed forum for this wizard, and I am really reaching out for help from yall. I am fairly certain my phone just got stolen within the past couple of hours. I'm sure many of yall are like myself, in the face that having your wizard stolen/lost would be probably on of the list of things you would forever dread happening. I have tried calling it and it goes straight to voicemail.. Which for my phone (and probably many of yalls) never never happens. I NEVER turn it off.. Unless its getting a new rom or being reset it doesn't know what being turned off is like... So the fact it is going to voicemail leads me to believe a couple things and scenarios.
First someone jacked it, couldn't figure it out, and it turned it off to later resale or whatever else.
Second, since my phone is the Cingular 8125, if the person who stole it has cingular, they could have popped their sim card in, thus making any call I would recieve go straight to voicemail...
I bought the phone off of ebay, so its never been formerly aknowleged with cingular that I have it.
My question is... If someone was to try to use it, is there anyway cingular would even be able to tell (since technically it was never registered officially with them), or should I possibly say goodbye forever...
Also I had no security/stolen phone programs installed... totally regret that now..
I know its just a phone, and not the end of the world. However I know this is a forum where our phones aren't just always phones, but something we put a lot of time and energy into. So I hope you feel where I am coming from...
I am currently a college student, stuggling as all of us are... So losing it is going to hurt the ole wallet pretty hard no matter what I end up doing.. Any input yall have whatsoever is greatly appreciated..
Thanks for listening and letter me vent...
Unfortunately, its probably gone, and I doubt its traceable (if you know the IMEI of the phone, you might be able to get Cingular to shut it off the network, but I doubt they do much more than that).
I've been thinking about installing one of the anti-theft programs (there is a free one I recall that will detect a differnet SIM card). Seeing your post makes me think I need to find this now and look into doing this (I've come close to leaving mine at a resteraunt a few times).
BTW: While I realize you are a college student, but if you have renters insurance (I'm assuming you don't own a home, otherwise we'd be talking homeowners insurance instead), you could possibly make a claim on this there. Also (not that it helps that much) when you do your taxes next year, you can claim property theft (make sure you have documentation though) as a loss / write off (but you have to itemize to claim that so may not be worth it to you if you don't already itemize).

the above link is for the above mentioned security freeware, at that site is a link for the download, as well as an explanation of how it works. i'm gonna install it now, and hope it works. sorry to hear about your 8125, i know this link is too late for you, but perhaps will help someone in the future.
I don't know how it works in the US but this is what I would be thinking if this happened to me in the UK...
1. I need to report the SIM card stolen to my carrier straight away. Any calls made on that SIM before I report it stolen means I have to pay for them.
2. When reporting it stolen I'd ask the carrier to block both the SIM and phone IMEI. I don't need to know the IMEI, the carrier can trace that from my phone number. It also doesn't matter if I bought the phone from my carrier or elsewhere as my account with them is registered by the SIM.
3. The best I could hope for is that once the phone is IMEI blocked the thief will throw it away and some kind person will hand it in to a police station. Here in the UK you can register your IMEI on a national police computer database so it can be sent back to you if found (obviously if you don't have a record of your IMEI then you can't do this, and here in the UK a carrier wouldn't be allowed to give you the IMEI).
Hope some of this might help.

You have to remember one thing about that software. It only works if your phone has GPS. The 8125 does not have GPS hardware. So this wont do anything for us 8125 or MDA users.
something i did, was change my boot screen. it has an image i like, but using a paint program, i typed over the image:
this mda belongs to jennifer boyd
it may have been lost or stolen
if found please contact me
[email protected]
at least when they boot the phone, unless they whore xda and KNOW how to change the boot screens, they will see this message...in my mind, it may not get my phone back, but at least i will guilt trip the person...and if it is found, perhaps a kind person will actually return it to me.
and all the above suggestions are good. i wish you the best of luck. i'd freak if i lost my precious.
and damn and double damn, i was hoping that software would help. guess i'll stick to my guilt tripping method.
How about this one?

I have done a similar thing, by putting the "owner" info into the rom and changing the registry to remove the "owner info" control pannel applet then when they hard reset they get my welcome note same as you and also they can't disable/change owner details
Thanks everyone.....
I've pretty much decided that getting it back is a lost cause.....
I encourage everyone to some type of antitheft application installed... its something I always saw, but always thought "oh it will never happen to me"....
If anyone knows of someone trying to get rid of their wizard, or know of a place other than ebay that sells used phones... please let me know...
Zack

Thanks for the help that you give everyone in this forum.... Its probably no coincidence that you were the first to reply and the fact that I had crossbow reloaded on my phone at time it was stolen... You do awesome work and are an asset to this forum...
eye on thief
Hi
Since a couple of weeks I have the application Eye on Thief on it... and... it works.
Eye on thief is an application that sends an SMS message to a predefined other number (of your girlfiend/mom/dad/... ).
In that way you have the mobile phonenumber of the one who stole it/found it/ bought it from the thief.

Actually, MobileJustice is free, and it does work fine on the Wizard (you just can't use the GPS or LOCman part of it). I installed it last night on my phone (after reading Zack84a's post) and set it up and it sent an SMS to my wife's phone when I didn't tell it a valid SIM. Also has a feature where you can send an SMS to your phone (so after you get the SMS about an unknown sim, you can reply back) with a password and a command and put messages on the screen of your phone (they don't see the SMS come in, just suddenly a dialog box with your text shows up on the screen).
I've made a package for this, and plan on building this in to the next version of Crossbow Reloaded if people want to use it. Like Zack84a, I've always seen these apps, but just thought I'd do it later... Seeing his post has made me realize I need to put this in place.
Downside with MobileJustice is unless you build something inot the extended rom, a hard reset would knock it out. Some of the commercial stuff apparently does this for you (so that alone may make it worth the $20 or so to register).
IMEI nomber
Hey Zack84a,
Your Cingular 8125 IMEI # is on a label on the original box, if U still got it/keep it.
Hey, I have a friend selling his T-mobile MDA (htc wizard) for $200. Let me know soon, and I can put you in contact with him, cuz he's posting it on ebay.
hey i know exactly how you feel. my phone didnt exactly get stolen but it was lost and i wasnt able to find it. and here in the US theres not much you can do about your phone getting stolen so it really sucks. luckily i got a new one from a friend because he works for cingular and someone that worked there had it.i put the security software on my new phone too.
so im sorry for your lose and hope you figure something out.

Read the 3rd post of the Crossbow Reloaded 1.7 thread. Maybe that will help. Personally to test it I've just deleted all sim's in the auth list. Just enabled it and setup the person to send it to.
Thanks, but I did what the post said, still no go! I sent an SMS to my wife's phone manually (just to make sure it works) and it went through! So, for some reason, the MJ program just will not work with my config. Not sure why.

Do you still have your phone box?? perhaps you can report the IMEI of the phone so they disable it and no one can use it, more over they can catch the robber.
Good luck m8. im sorry for you big loss

I know now that it was a mistake, but I bought a Chinese Clone of the HTC Touch Diamond2(?) but now I am stuck with it. What the problem is that at my residence, I have a poor signal from my Rogers provider and will only work intermittently just in one corner of the house if I stand in the corner, hold my mouth the right way, stand on one foot (you know what I mean). From reading your forum and others, it is suggested that upgrading your ROM may help with reception issues. O.K., more than willing to try this but for the life of me, I can't get this phone to upgrade. Seller is of no help either. I can get into the boot menu buy holding the phone answer and power buttons at the same time. I have not found the combination or a way to get it to give me a hard reboot. I have tried the HardSPL method but that does not work or the RUU way either. I am having major surgery two months from now and will be bed ridden for at least 6 weeks. I would dearly like this phone to work for so I can keep in touch with my children via text messaging. Here are some of the numbers I have found inside:
02-8174-85053
T5353
Serial:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
IMEI:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Windows Mobile 6.1
O/S: 1.0.02.342
Boot: 1.0.02.347
I apologize for being so long winded....just trying to give the most information possible. I really appreciate any help or guidance you can give me. Thank-you from Canada.
Well, the HardSPL and rom flashing are device specific, so even if you bought a device that looks like the Diamond 2, you have something completely different under the hood. Hence, none of the tools that you mentioned will work. As far as upgrading the rom, it isn't the OS rom that may help you with your reception issues, but the Radio. I know of a few Chinese forums that are involved with these knock-offs but to be honest (from what I have read), people simply complain there and I do not know how much help are they receiving.
I am sorry for telling you like this, but there is a very small chance that someone around here is going to have a radio or a custom rom for your device. On the flip side, if you would have been successful at flashing your device, you would now be the proud owner of a shinny, expensive paperweight, so not all has been lost...
I hope you can get some more help. Google your device +your carrier (ie Sunno HD +Rogers +no signal) or something like that (be creative) and you may come up with an answer.
Best of luck with your surgery though
I have a better idea- you were mis-sold a product, and are entitled to a refund. Do that instead. There's no way I'd put up with accepting a copy of a product if it was advertised as such.
In future I would be more careful as to where you purchase things! As an old fart, you should know this!

Well, I guess he knew that it was a knock off, and most Chinese Vendors will tell you that whatever you are buying is not the real thing. So, unless there is something really wrong with it, they may be hesitant to refund any money.

I'm currently running an HTC touch pro 2 and i still have my HTC touch pro. I turned my TP1 on the other day for the first time in many months and the phone picked up a text message, not only did it pick it up, it picked it up at the same time my TP2 did. Unfortunately it hasn't happened since.
What i'd like to know, is there a way i can emulate the IMIE number on the tp2, so that i can have both my TP2 and my TP1 working at the same time.
I want to be able to use my TP1 as a full data device while i make my calls on my TP2 or vice versa.
If you can't post the answer here for what ever reason feel free to private message me.
*edit it will recieve every txt message that is sent to my number but it won't send and it won't take incoming calls.
Good luck with that, cause that aint gonna happen. Well, at least not anyway that I can possibly think of. Carriers wont allow more than one phone per mobile number. They say it isn't possible, but I personally think it IS possible and that they just wont allow it. Technically, it should be able to work. But the problems would fall with the GPS. Even if GPS was on in one device while off on the other, they couldn't track someone if they wanted to. I'm sure there are other reasons to this. I have never heard of what you are experiencing. They probabbly didn't fully remove the old phone's IMIE data from the system, hence why you can receive texts but not send anything. What service are you on?

1) unfortunately telus.
2) The GPS on my phones has been completely deactivated except for when I want to turn it on. I refuse to allow someone to turn it on remotely, also in Canada that's akin to wireless phone tapping so the cops can't do it. And even if they could legally i'd still reprogram my phone so they can't.
3) That's my point. If they didn't fully remove it and my old phone can still get the txt messages that means they can re-add the old MEIE numbers back to the system and both should work. OR if i could put an emulator onto my phone or even hard code the MEIE number change on my old phone to the same as my new one...
Remember back in the day when cellphones were still a new thing, the brick and bag phones and so on, well someone figured out how to clone phones and the practice caught on like wildfire and since then has been literally outlawed. AS IN IT IS ILLEGAL TO CLONE ONE OR MORE PHONES TO THE SAME IMEI, MSID, DEC OR HEX SERIAL TO GAIN USE OF MULTIPLE PHONES ON THE SAME LINE AT THE SAME TIME. Not being mean or an ass to you, but I would research this a little bit and tread lightly on the subject. Stuff like this is not tolerated very well on xda.
Plus, now it would be almost impossible to do this with any carrier as the data the phone sends out is not just what you want it to. Whenever it connects to the network is sends and receives configuration data such as manufacturer and model among other things and will throw red flags if it doesnt match up to what the expected result of the data sent and received to the network and carrier has on file.
Again, tread lightly on this path.
"AS IN IT IS ILLEGAL TO CLONE" I'm serious, I'd like to see an actual Canadian law stating this. And if it's not illegal in Canada then it's a legit question. Well it's still legit.
"not tolerated very well on xda." Why? the whole point of these forums is to learn and teach people how to modify their phones. If they didn't want people sharing this information they should never have started this website to begin with.
As to my actual question and as to one stated answer
"They probably didn't fully remove the old phone's IMIE data from the system"
If it's still partially in the system that means it could be wholly in the system and means it should be able to be done. If they say it can't but i'm still getting txts on both phones that means the carriers are lying and are just making excuses to get more money. If thats all it is i'll do my best to get every penny out of them for every penny they're stealing from me.
Ok rant done, how do I clone my IMIE number? (no i won't tread lightly)

its considered fraud under the law in most counties, like changing the VIN on a car, even if there isnt a specific law to deal with it
and besides that, its against the rules of this forum, so even if it was legal to do its not ok to ask about here

Your making a mountain out of a mole hill and there is a very real difference between a 6 or 8 hundred dollar phone and 15 thousand dollar plus car; unless you own both then i see no issue switching out the vin, as long as you own the cars.
as to being the against forum policy i challenge that on the simple fact there is nothing wrong with sharing knowledge.

Another thread (closed) on this site which discusses ESN cloning: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380172
Just search on google, and you will find what you need. There are programs like cdma workshop out there.
Any one who has received the following error:
"Hard-SPL is for non-commercial purposes only, we have detected that you appear to already have unlocked another device, if you wish you unlock commercially, please e-mail [email protected] or [email protected] to discuss solutions; However if this is your first device, then please ensure that the radio is turned ON and retry"
I wanted to share my experience. I've read countless pages from the xda and ppcg forums, trying to decide whether or not to make a payment of £4.00 GBP to regain the ability to unlock my seemingly blacklisted device.
I wanted to know if making payment would work specifically for my situation which was:
New Sprint Touch Pro2 with an original SPL of 0.72 and running Windows 7.
I found a reference of a Sprint user paying and immediately being able to unlock and after getting a response from razorloves. Today I decided to make payment, not being interested in waiting a month for my open ticket to be answered.
Here were my exact steps:
1. Connected TP2 to computer.
2. Opened RhodiumW-HardSPL_V1_10R3.exe
3. Selected Flash Hard-SPL (Automatic flash)
4. Received error message about non-commercial use.
5. Selected Yes (would like to make donation)
6. Was taken to http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/hardspl.php and selected Donate With PayPal
7. Logged into PayPal and made payment.
8. Repeated steps 1, 2, 3.
9. Continued unlock process, completed successfully.
The reason I started this thread is because I spent so much time looking for the specific answers. I agree, the developers have not been helpful to the community as of late. They should update all their posts and indicate that after the first free unlock, you are likely going to be required to make payment if you'd like a speedy unlock if your device is blacklisted.
I thought the developers deserved a little retribution.

but didn't work nether. and thats my second touch pro two first one was unlocked no issues and replacment no luck even after paying money.
opened ticket waiting waiting waiting
while not having working phone .
gratitude
should just be glad that they make the first one free and not complain because you didn't want to wait for them to work it out for free
I did tell her that she really needs to make it very clear in the application what the deal is, since she's sort of returned now I'll see if I can get her to turn out a new version that makes it clearer, I did try to alleviate it a bit by adding the info into an autoreply on the ticket system, but in any case, the Hard-SPL stuff is dealt with by her, not me.
a word to the wise: if the purchase page presents you with an IMEI box to fill in, if you don't fill it in with your actual IMEI and instead you just pay using the 12345678901234 IMEI - IT WILL NOT WORK, the point of not filling it in is for people who successfully unlocked and simply want to donate... so the lesson here is don't be a dumbass, although equally, if it doesn't display your IMEI that means it had an issue with the device, in which case stick a SIM in it and put it on GSM/UMTS only mode, tends to work wonders.
Those wondering about the state of play with reply time, I heartily recommend you go read my post in the SIM/CID/Sec thread

what pisses me off they call this donationware.. it's not and do they even donate any proceeds to xda?
I know comonex a little from "old times" of hpc, and I remember that she always were helpful. She did a lot to community , for free.
Is it that bad that she would like some money for her work?
I'm pretty sure that if there was some slowness in responding to mail, she had a good reason.
Nobody is forced to donate, they can still use phones with branded roms. Or sell them and buy one that doesn't need to be "unlocked".
I paid about $20 - It didn't work. I understand why though. I dont have the phone activated (and I dont have sprint) so no internet; which I've since read the process needs OTA internet (because wifi disconnects when plugged into the PC). I'm sure the real process to unlock the security doesn't need the access to the web but they gotta make sure you paid. $-) I've had a ticket open for weeks, updated twice - no response. If your going to run a business (donationware ???) customer service is a must, otherwise you have unhappy customers like me - who do not recommend your product. SAVE YOUR MONEY - ITS A STINKY TURD - Maybe once (if) my issue gets resolved I'll retract my above statements.
Just trying to figure this out.
I would be considered a commercial customer. I want the ability to put new roms on our companies phones when it is needed. If that costs money the. So be it.
Really what I care about is the quality of the rom. I do not have all day to play with this stuff. We have phones that are annoying our users.. Htc and Verizon loaded these phones up with a pile of junk that the users never use.
I need a rom that is easy to flash like the Verizon / htc roms.
They need battery life.
They need to be able to answer the phone. This is actually some the users have trouble doing with the stock roms.
They need the phone to sync with exchange and use email in push mode.
Navigation would be nice...
Bluetooth is needed.
Web browser and Microsoft store/market is last.
I would pay anyone for a working Rom and the ability to update phones. (phones break, a lot) I don't want to keep track of imei numbers or anything like that.
We are behind a class c ip address so as far as I am concerned that's good enough for me to validate who we are. Otherwise give me a user account.
So whats so wrong with these folks?
I just wanted to thank Olipro & cmonex for their hard work for hard SPL, SIM unlocker, and hacked radios. However I do have one complaint, I bought the SIM unlocker and tried to apply on phone when I got a message to check e-mail. E-mail message stated I needed to wait 48 hours because my location didn't match with my billing address. I dont have a problem with some sort of fraud protection built it, but it obviously doesn't work properly seeing that my location was exactly the same as my billing address. Hope it works in the next 48 hours, or I'll be really pissed.
Try to contact them by mail, maybe something went wrong (e-mail wasn't delivered ?).
Ive flashed to phones both tp2 cdma using olipro and cmonex website with no issues
I paid for both unlocks each time and BAM instant unlock both times I even donated a little more for extra support which I never used but I did email olipro before I paid again when I got the second phone and the email was answered that same day within a few hours because I forgot the process and he gave me great advice, I dont know much about phones being on the blacklist, bad imei I guess, I was at the sprint store picking up some accessories and there was this dumba$$ showing off his phone that he flashed over to a new rom to the sales rep and the rep politely asked for his phone number and name and cancelled his total equipment replacement warranty plan for modifying the phone and he can never get it back, that dude was pissed, but it was his own fault for being a dumbass,
I had to do a return once and wasnt able to relock my phone so I ran it over with my car a few times til it no longer powered on turned it in and presto got a new tp2 Ive got no complaints about the htc unlocks crew on my next phone Im going to go with the commercial unlock option, thanks olipro and cmonex I have found out the only issue is that when ppl try to get the unlocker for free, they complain and complain but think about would Bill Gates send you a free copy of windows 7 just because you bought a laptop with XP I dont think so, or another way to look at it is would you to to work for free? I dont think so either. quit being cheap and pay the 8 euros.
if your offended at what I am saying you must be among the many who want something for nothing, this is america GET REAL!
Well I had the misfortune of getting all of my stuff stolen by some crooked F****r
This happen to include my Infuse, nice and shiny
I am really... really ticked... so I was curious
Is there such a thing as a program or condition that one could put into their phone where a security test would be frequently asked (something that isn't annoying but catches unauthorized users) to verify the authorized user ie owner of the device?
Also the program would have to be have some leniency as I don't want it to brick itself when I ask somebody to check my messages of course I would tell them the code or trick whatever it may be.
I need something that when the phone is in jeopardy, it will destroy the device as well as all of the data that has accumulated on this device...
I just hate... absolutely hate with the blackest black like a black hole of hatred, when I have this feeling of "some bastard out there is freely running through my device" and I can't do **** about it.
Which happens to have past data on it, even if my SIM is terminated and my phone is cut off... there is still the numbers, photos, messages and such
Man I tell you, these lowlife scums... really? I was in a college cafeteria, I have my coat sitting there in front of everyone, I was sitting alone, I get up to get some fruit, when I come back, the coat is gone.
Yeah I left it unattended but at the same time you have to consider the fact that maybe these humans have something called morals in their little brains.
It's like... WTF
Plus the University Police's cameras suck... you would think that their capability of funding a $60 million dollar building, that perhaps they could install cameras which could do more than just differentiate whether a human is a girl or a guy.
Anyways... aside from all this bull
What can you guys think of... is there something like this?
I may just make it myself if something like this isn't already made, I'm so pissed
I just wanted to kill whoever this person was (not really as I could never do that) but man I was about ready to pick up this desk and hurl it at the window...
Thank you guys in advance for the read and perhaps an answer to my question.
Sorry for your loss.
SeekDroid is my phone's best friend. You can locate, lock, force an alarm, and wipe the phone from a computer. You can also see the phone number of the sim, along with a list of the last 10 placed calls. On top of all this, you can also force the app to hide on the phone so that nobody can uninstall it. Insanely cheap for what it offers.

I'm sure there is a lock out there that will wipe data or whatever you want if you get the passcode wrong a certain amount of times. You should use a screen lock from now on though... quick and easy for everyday use. And when something happens like this at least you know the dickhead has a paperweight and can't get past the lockscreen. You can also password lock the sim card too. I'm sorry about your stolen device. :/

How much is this app? It's a one time buy right?
The thing is, how helpful are these things when the phone is off? I guess the criminal would have to turn the phone on at some point
The main thing that concerns me (besides the fact that it's stolen) is the data still being on there, it's my privacy you know? I am entitled to it just like everyone else, as private as one can get here in the US anyways which I would say is pretty good... anyways
slapshot30
I used to use screen locks, I just got annoyed by it
I just have the little puzzle piece (or had)
I just want the phone to be useless, although if there was a chance for me to get it back, I'd like to be able to restore it (bricking I guess is what this is)
I just want to scream "MY BABY!!!! IT'S MISSING!!!!!" In a girl shrieking voice hahaha
Anyways, thanks guys I will heed your warnings and look into this app
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
What about the condition that the phone would terminate itself when it detects that someone else is using the phone
Say it gives you three tries to enter the authorization code
The unbricking would be easy (due to the way the app is programmed) so that if I accidentally bricked it on myself by not entering the code right, it wouldn't be a hassle to restore it.

I hated lock screens also. I'm constantly opening my phone out and to have to spend 3 seconds unlocking it gets annoying. I used to use WheresMyDroid (free on the Market) and its nice for finding the phone. By texting the phone (from any number) a special code, the phone will send gps latitude/longitude of the phones location and another special code will force the phone to play an alarm. It's not so great compared to SeekDroid, but it doesn't need data.
SeekDroid needs data, so if you send a bunch of commands, it won't be recognized until the phone establishes an online connection. So if the phone is off, then nothing can be done. But there's a high chance that they'll turn it on eventually. And there's an even higher chance that they'll try going online with it. From what I remember, it was $1 for the app. It was on Amazon's FAD a couple of times. Looks like the app is now $4.99 on the Market, but there is a lite version that you can try out. I think it's a steal even at $4.99.
get an app called seek droid
only cost a buck and works great
log into their webiste and you can wipe your internal and external memory cards, make an alarm go off even of phone is on silent (this lost phone) and other stuff.
also lets you set a password remotely. pretty awesome

Yeah SeekDroid is the way to go. it was free a while back on the amazon app store.

Last few releases of SeekDroid have included SMS, in-case the device has no data connection. Its not very well advertised right now, but some documentation can be found here: http://help.seekdroid.com/kb/features/sms-how-to-and-help
Glad to hear everyone likes the app. If anyone has any questions, shoot us a line at http://help.seekdroid.com
PS: We should be going on sale on the Amazon Appstore within the next few day. If you wait you might be able to save a few bucks.

Oh dammmmmmmmmn, SeekDroid now has the ability to wipe the phone through a text message? That's so awesome. Will the phone show that a text conversation has initiated? The person could turn off the phone if they somehow saw that someone was trying to find it.

If you send a SMS to SeekDroid (with the correct SMS pin and all), we will block that message from going to the phones SMS app. This means it still stays hidden from a thief that they are being tracked.

sorry to hear about stolen phone, but folks dont go out and spend money on those apps. Did I not read the reply or did I just miss the one that reminds us all they are 95% USELESS. They are P.O.S!!! They will only work if the phone 1) is powered on 2) has cellular coverage 3) has your sim in it.
All anyone has to do is turn it off, travel out of coverage range, or simply take out or replace the sim.

We get success stories of people recovering their devices all the time. Also, as long as the device has a network OR data connection it can be tracked. SeekDroid will still track the device if the SIM is replaced.

Lolwut? I can gurantee that 99% of phone thieves will at least connect it to a network of some sort. And that's when SeekDroid will strike. I'd take SeekDroid over any app out there on the market. It's simply the best at what it does and then some.

at least this gives you a chance as long as your proactive and get on it fast.
you get the choice to locate it, or completely wipe everything off the phone, which is what i would do because i wouldn't want someone to be able to screw with my email account, facebook, contacts, and everything else on my phone.
not to mention being able to set off an alarm on my phone even when its on silent has helped me find it a few times when it decides to go deep sea couch diving
hmm Really? might make it worth looking into then. Because according to big brother (ATT) and apple. The only was those work is by sending a message/signal to the device. if the device is off or has no signal there is no way to for the service. if its a free download. I'll download it and then remove my sim and try pinging it

What identifier is it using? Because i thought once the sim card was swapped it became essentialy a different phone
Check out an app called plan b on the marketplace website. You can install it from there and it will show you where the phone is an you can wipe it clean. It's free.

The stuff with the locations "longitude and latitude" doesn't the GPS have to be turned on the phone?
What about if the sim card was removed?
I had looked on my AT&T records and the 'criminal' did go online for a bit until the phone was turned off
But damn... the thought of having my email accounts logged in, my messages, phone numbers, personal notes and voice recordings etc... pictures...
Oh man it's like someone has just stripped me naked and posted my image on somebody's bedroom wall (ha)
Anyhow it would have been nice to have any of these apps on my phone, though my phone sticks to me like a cancer
Thank you guys for your input
I'll try to be wiser next time
Just a side question
What's the cost of switching devices if your last device was stolen? I like the sound of the "skyrocket" though I wouldn't mind getting my old Infuse back either and trying the ubuntu os
That looks sweet

Ha! Plan B now that's an app name
So, I bought a Verizon galaxy s iii off of craigslist, but did not have a sim card to use. So I brought the phone into the verizon store to get a sim card for it, and I was told that the phone is on a "missing or stolen list" so they could not activate it. Would unlocking the phone allow me to activate it, or is there any other solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Should have checked the esn. Might as well sell it on eBay as a bad esn phone for parts.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Only solution is to call the police. Unfortunately you've been scammed.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I thought you could just pop your current 4g sim in and it will work.....you just cannot activate it going from 3g to 4g. I swear i did this to a bad imei thunderbolt and it worked....
This is exactly why you meet people from CL when buying a phone at the verzion store. I make them come in with me, check the ESN. Then we go back out and I give them the money. No other way ever.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
once a person call verizon and reports it lost or stolen it is permanently flagged in their system and cannot be activated anymore, I think in europe all the carriers share banned esn's with each other so you cant just steal a gsm phone and use it on a different gsm carrier, not sure if they do that here
I would see if you can contact the person you got it from but most likely they are long gone and they scammed you knowing full well the phone was stolen, this is why its better to deal with ebay since you are protected from this stuff
do you root your phone?
My issue is very similar but not exactly the same, posting here instead of new thread
This thread seemed to be closest match to what I'm facing... Hi, I'm trying to fix a phone. It's a Samsung Galaxy S3 that's deactivated. It has a Verizon logo on it, but calling 611 connects to AT&T who tells me to call Verizon who claims the imei # is bad because they tried looking it up multiple times and were unable to locate ANY info in their system about it, they recommended that it's not a Verizon phone and I go into the store for the relevant carrier (Which there aren't any AT&T stores around anymore, and I don't feel like walking into Verizon until I've got better/more info so I'm not feeling like an idiot). I believe the phone was previously rooted, because it had a few apps on it such as "rootland" but no su or busybox, but I'm not sure. Rootchecker was already installed but says "no root access" or "root denied". I performed a factory reset. It did nothing. I simply want to have it be capable of being actived on a prepaid acct, I know it was used this way before on Verizon. The baseband is showing as S:i500.05 K.EI20 the kernel version is 2.6.35.7 the model # is SCH-I500. What do I do? My phone number is 60three nine2three 2zero4six my name is Sandra. Please help! I've goggled for hours and simply cannot seem to find any up to date info which is useful! I don't know what to do anymore, my friend needs a working phone as hers sucks and I'm trying to help by getting this one fixed for her to try, because she doesn't have the $ to buy one and this was given to me when the previous owner got a new one and didn't want it anymore but she didn't tell me it was basically a paperweight (probably why she gave it away)... Anyways, help would be fantastic, also I have a computer but no internet, only data plan on my cell, which is why my number is included because if I need to hook it up and hot spot I can but wouldn't be able to communicate online at the same time... The number I provided is connected to a separate phone which is mine and is 100% working, it's a Verizon Galaxy S5 which I'm also trying to root, and it's a pain in the ass not having internet since the block of geohash and towelroot exploit stopped, but I'm close I think, I've done my research and I believe I simply have to down grade the kernel first with odin. I've never actually used odin or rooted a phone but I'm doing my best to learn as much as possible and not bother people. I don't want to be a noob and annoying. Just really stuck here. Sorry msg is so long, figured I'd try to be as detailed as possible to reduce any time on your end so you can either help or point me in a different direction by not having to go back and forth asking questions. Of course if there does happen to be something I left out please don't hesitate to ask. I am seeking your assistance after all. I don't want to bug you or anyone with my issues and lack of ability to sort through... I'm pretty sure I'll have used most of not all my data before being able to read any replies, so calls/text is best to the phone number I included, which I'll repeat again. Sixzerothreeninetwothreetwozerofoursix. I AM PRONG MY PHONE NUMBER ON PURPOSE AND I UNDERSTAND THE RISKS OF DOING SO INCLUDING STALKERS OR CREEPS OR HACKERS OR WEIRDOS ETC ETC ETC. I GET IT. MIGHT BE CALLED STUPID BUT WHATEVER. I'VE HAD THIS NUMBER FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND IT'S NOT HARD TO GET, I GET STRANGE CALLS CONSTANTLY AND I'VE LEARNED HOW TO UNBLOCK CALLER ID AND BLOCK FREAKS FROM CALLING/TEXTING A 2ND TIME. I NEED HELP AND AM WILLING TO CHANCE MORE CALLS/TEXTS OR OTHER ISSUES BY POSTING MY #. I'm a big girl I know the world is scary, I've lived through nightmarish crap, I'll be alright and won't blame anyone but myself if this causes **** to hit the fan. It's official and in writing so xda cannot be held liable AT ALL for ANYTHING, nor can ANYONE ELSE if it is related to my choosing to post this, which I am doing of my own choosing. I'll now eagerly await any help available to fix my issues. I'm hopeful I've come to the right place asking the right people who will help me understand more about what I could do to learn how to get better educated on these topics and in future not require so much of your valuable time. I'm more than willing to put in the time and effort to take responsibility for enacting any actions to perform a solution, I've just gotten very confused and overwhelmed trying to navigate correctly and learn what needs to be done. Pointing me in the correct direction would be wonderful! Thank you in advance!

It has a US cellular logo physically on it. Calling 611 puts me through to AT&T, but I know for a fact it was last used on Verizon prepaid.

Sorry for that, I have spent so many hours researching the 3 relevant companies, root/unroot info, kernels, roms, builds, learning about variations on android os, and anything I coups find remotely related that I had a slight mix-up, but hope that's now clarified.
