it's just an idea. Maybe somebody else had thought of that but i wanted to share this thougt with you all.

Everything is possible. The only issue is that each cab is made diffrently. What you are asking would take at least 6 months developement. And none of us do this as a permanent job, so it might take a year. Just wait. There are more ROM's and kitchens being released with more and more.
I think it's near impossible.
But be pacient, in a couple of days, everyone here will know how to dump, make packages, and rebuild using them Trust me
And of course , much more than that .
Actually, the idea of a fully automated kitchen doesn't seem so far fetched.
Back in the day when the HTC Wallabee was king, there were a number of kitchen web sites. These web sites would allow you to select your base ROM and from a wide selection of the freeware and commercial (reg key required) packages. During the process, it would keep track of total ROM size vs available ROM, so you could max out the ROM. When done, you hit build and then download your custom built ROM.
It was very cool. I must have flashed my Wallabee a dozen times or so before the screen got accidentally crushed, and I moved on to a different device.

Web-Based ROM Kitchen???
Now if only one of the more advanced cookers could do for the Wizard what LumpiStefans did for the Wallaby:

that really looks beautifull.

Perhaps I might do the same thing too, but the Wallaby guys provided a really good example of the right way to deploy a kitchen whether it be for Wizard, Wing, Hermes, or whatever.
In fact, silly old me, when the first WM6 post went up about a kitchen, I was expecting to see a link to ROM fabrication web site rather than a toolset with many manual configuration options and seemingly much higher risk for the end user.

Well, it looks to be official, HTC is rolling out WM6 upgrades for some of their devices (as we all may have heard). Here are the current devices that are initially planned:
HTC Advantage
HTC TyTN
HTC S620
HTC P4350
HTC P3300
http://www.solopalmari.com/images/stories/007/04/WM6_statement_.pdf
But, there is somewhat of a silver lining. If you read the .pdf in the link, it may not be limited to just those phones. There will be no upgrade fees for the carriers, so it's up to the carriers discretion to release the upgrade for whatever devices they deem "worthy". I would think the best way to go about getting it released for the Wizard would be to contact your carriers and request it. If they get enough requests, I can guarantee they'll make that upgrade available.
Despite having some great releases from some great chefs, it would make cooking that much better with an official OS release.
At any rate, CALL YOUR CARRIERS!!

I hoped to get a more special answer. When you take a datasheet of both - it is the same. Just the camera and teh thicknes. So what is really different. And if people can crossover a hermes rom to wizard it must be possible to crossover a herald to wizard. becuse it is same function than wizard.
So what is the difference?

Good Morning Terry
Thank you for your email
I am not aware at present of any Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade options being made available for our XDA devices including the XDa Mini S in the very near future. Historically speaking O2 has only provided ROM upgrades on the existing OS and has never provided OS upgrades on any of the XDA devices. Please monitor the website link attached below for future upgrades.

hey
how about, everybody on here gets together and 'badgers' or (requests, to put it nicely! ) a specific operator for the rom update?
rather than 10 people each asking 10 diff operators, lets just get together and ask one, would be more likely, and either way, once we have one official update in our hands, thats all we need really!
how bout it then chaps?!(and chap-esses)

That seems like a good plan to me. What operator did you have in mind? We should probably pick one that has traditionally been more open to upgrades in the past. That would definitely rule out Cingular/ATT here in the US.
Also, papamopps, give Dr. P. some respect and credit on the issue of what OS is based on what device. If anyone would know, he would.

No offense was taken by me. As for Faria, yes he can be a little *****y, most genius's are.. Please realize though that he DOES "butter our bread", along with others. And he DOES endure a lot of nonsense and crap. Myself, I wouldn't have come back after some of crap that he (and me in a VERY small way) have taken here.....
Now, back to the OP! I doubt that Cingular is going to be of any help, morons... I WILL say that I've seen more come from T-Mobile regarding official updates with the Wizard (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)
I would vote for T-Mobile too. O2 suck for updates.
All,
Just wanted to add my thanks to all the talented people who roam these forums ! I've benefited greatly from your work. Particular thanks to faria who provided me with working ROMs when I was beginning to wonder if I should just go buy another phone. Also to funman who guided me through building my own Roms when I thought that was beyond my skills.
I'm heading over to the Hermes forums now. A friend gave up on figuring his out and so he sold it to me for $200 (he didn't know about xda-developers!). I couldn't pass that up! I hope the guys over there are as nice !
Best wishes to you all!

Helpful bunch too
Great to hear!
I've gotten off to a terrific start thanks to the Hermes forums. Installed Custel 2.5 WM6 and I'm back to almost the same setup that I had on my Wizard. I was very happy to find most everything transfered over (PocketBreeze, iLauncher, PocketWeather, phonealarm, rlToday, IM+, muns keyboard skin, and the JPL big button phone dialer !! About the only thing missing is BatteryStatus. The FAQ says there's no overclocking software for the Hermes?
And the speed using 3G! WOW!!! Absolutely worth it !!
To everyone that has a hermes,
There are already offical WM6 versions out.. maybe you should test some first before you brick your phone... i dont mean to sound the way it does but i'm still hoping t-mobile or at&t are gonna release an offical Wm6 for my MDA.. so i do haev to say good luck to everyone with there new hermes

I did. The first thing I did upon receiving the phone was load the official Cingular WM6 rom on it. Given that there was a WM6 for the hermes, I thought that maybe I'd just stick with that version.
However, I ran into some small annoyances (activesync problems) and it was missing some software apps that I gotten used to having (Task Manager as an example), so that's when I decided to try one of the "unofficial" roms. I did my homework and read through the load process and basically followed the instructions. Custel focuses on making Cingular compatible roms, so it was a good fit for my needs.
I guess I was very cautious about installing custom roms when I first got my wizard (prior to my hermes). But after all the annoyances with it (daily soft-resets, monthly hard-resets, ongoing network problems, etc., etc.), if I hadn't installed one, I would have given up on the phone. Another example of that: I got my hermes because a friend got fed up with it and got a Treo instead. From installing custom roms, I got into customizing them myself using faria's kitchen apps.
It's not for everyone and I understand that, but I've greatly benefited from the efforts of the guys who work so hard to build these custom roms !
So I just got my tilt today. This is my first smartphone and I just had a couple questions before I start flashing roms and such.
If I flash the HTC factory ROM, is this a completely different operating system than wm6?
Do wm programs work on the HTC ROM?
I know I sound stupid but I have to start somewhere.

The right place to start is "reading"... there are a lot of ussefull info in the Wiki ... take time to read and to understand what you are reading... when you'll be familiarized with terms and concepts, then you'll have many questions to do, and someone take time to help you, but for now you need read
Cheers.
Start Here
A good place to start is the Kaiser Wiki. Located right here on XDA.
As far as flashing different roms go, every rom currently available for the Kaiser (Tilt) are Windows Mobile 6 roms.
The only issues I have run into with installing programs is when the install CAB file is locked down to a particular device. This was common with the original installer of TomTom GPS floating around the site.
Since you are new to the game, as I was just 18 months ago, the biggest piece of advice I can give is this: Search the forum before asking questions. This is not to avoid flaming, although that may happen from time to time, but due to the high volume of posting on the site, it may take longer to get a response if you create a new topic as opposed to adding your question to an existing one.

Thanks for the response, I have been reading a lot lately but sometimes it is really hard to move on because people used advanced terms which are hard to find the meaning to without reading for hours through forums.
Just flashed on the HTC ROM, works perfectly.
I have really been looking to get the TouchFLO working on my Tilt, is this a setting or a button? Or do I need to install something?

I would also like to take this time to say "I told you so" to all the people who didn't think the majority of people with newbie questions would be Tilt users, and chastised me for making a "Tilt-only" thread.
defense
well in defense of myself.... a tilt was only $300 with new service where if I bought the "TyTn II" which is the same thing without a camera on the front, which I dont need, I would have to pay upwards of $800.
also thanks a lot for the threads very helpful
Now with the HTC rom there of course is no telenav, now do I have to pay for the GPS service through AT&T and Pay $9.99 for the telenav, or could I just purchase tom tom6 and be done with it and not pay at&t $9.99 a month for the gps service? thanks in advance for the response

If you purchase TomTom, then you are done. No monthly fees associated with it.
As far as your TouchFLO question, you need to flash your Tilt to a rom that supports it. As you will learn from browsing this site, cooked roms are still very new for the Kaiser/Tilt, so there will only be a few available.
For a basic TouchFLO rom with high stability, I recommend AustinSync's BIGstorage rom. TeleNav will be missing from it, but you will be able to access all of AT&T's internal networks such as MEdia Net without issue.
just for terminology purposes, kaiser/tilt is a pocketpc, not a smartphone.

The software is incompatible with our phones because it's for a different TYPE of OS altogether. That's why he mentioned it. Not that professional means better. Professional means that it has the touchscreen version of Windows Mobile which is very different from the "standard" version of Windows Mobile. It's like telling a person to that you don't care that it's an XBOX360, it runs an NT kernel, so you want to be able to run a windows XP app on it. You can't just run the app, it has to be modified at the code level to work. That software was created by microsoft, so we do not have the source code to modify it.
Therefore, that's a standard phone, this is a professional. Everyone has their preference.
On a side note: If you're talking about TouchIT, you must be looking at some old ROMs... itje hasn't posted anything in a long time. Are you looking at Manila2D ROMs?
I was on the Herald Rom Development forum and went thru the Rom's Reveiwed by Pureskilzzz...It's got a lot of ROMs on it, but all of them are either all black themes, which i dont want, or the open touch iphone style stuff that I i dont really like either. I really want to get threaded messaging back, i used to have a treo 750, and the Dash I had upgraded to the Kavanna WM 6.1 and the threades SMS on there was amazing...
I'm not saying that i prefer the standard over the professioanl version. Im saying that like the way Kavanna did the home screen. With the sliding glass panes and the way it's set up. If that could be implemented into a Wing ROM would be awesome. if not, then ill stick with the WM 6.0 version i currently have my wing.

WHY should we impelment a TOdayscreen that is ONLY be used by joystick...when we (WM Professional) have a touchscreen!
Go to abtterystatus theme thread and see if someone copied the desinge with the touchscreen functionality...but i don´t know...
ANd threadded SMS can be added via .cab i think...or just install WM6.1 on your Wing!!!!
When tat is all you want...you really don´t know what device you have...cause you are running a wing with WM6 or WM5....
IF you ever have tested any of our roms you would see that a WIng is 1000times better thatn a Device without touchscreen.
good greif all i asked was a simple question and things get blown outta porportion. Ive read this forum for 6 months before i signed up knewing that this sort of thing would happen. Now it has...last time i will ask a question on this site ever...
Ive had MANY, MANY, MANY smartpones and used cooked rooms on all of them. I know that the Dash is not a touch screen phone and that the moving crystal look is for it's jogger bar...I'm just saying plain and simple...I LIKE THE LOOK of the sliding glass. im sure that the animation could be done weather is touch screen or not...
but with that said I do believe i finally found a ROM that I will enjoy

Im not into the entire fancy looking iphone ease of use stuff. I just like simple nice looking software. That's all i was trying to say...sorry for any confusion.
Ok!
Hey, its ok guys! I can see where papa is comming from. He spends alot of time making ROMs at the cost of his free time and effort and you kind of came across as a little demanding and abrasive. Alot of people started from the dash and ended up getting a wing/herald and are proud of the progress that has been made to further development on this phone, myself included! There are tons more options available as far as ROMs and UI for the Wing than the Dash, I know because I have both and just flashed my Dash again lastnight after waiting for about 4 months for a new ROM to come out! As far as my Wing, well I cant even keep up with the leaps and bounds in development on that! There has been alot of tention around here about people just poping up a demanding things without having bothered to try to look aroud and find it for themselves or bother to learn to do it themselves! So dont take it personaly if you get flamed or someone doesn't see things the way you do! Just decide to learn from it. You cant go wrong learning something new! Who knows, you could be the next new ROM chef for the Wing/Herald! That would ROCK!

Most of those ROMs are older. Threaded messaging is built into all of the WM6.1 ROMs. Search for a Manila2D ROM for a "sliding" pane setup. The reason for pointing out the professional and standard was just to point out that it's incompatible and part of the WM6.1 of standard phones, not something that was created by that cook. I'm sorry if it sounded like I was flaming.
Hello guys,
I need you help.
I'm planning to buy a HTC phone pretty soon (gonna buy it on ebay)
Currently I have to decide between the TyTN Hermes (not Kaiser) and the HTC p4350 Herald.
I simply don't know which phone to pick...
I'd like to use the phone for calendar, to-do, w-lan.... and in general I want to mod the phone to my needs
The pros for the Tytn Hermes are:
400 MhZ and UMTS
but as I read, there are ppl having various problems with that phone...
I'd be glad if ppl could reply and tell me about their experiences with these phones (or make another suggestion).
Thanks alot

P.S.: I hope this is posted in the right area, it not please move it
you should look for threads in the hermes/herald section either comparing the two or just giving you a wide view of the phone.
I use a Hermes, but would recommend the Kaiser for the extra ram, and the possibility of running Android on it. If you want to run a fancy shell like m2d, then the extra ram is a must.
Also, (while not wanting to put down the fine chefs working on Hermes), there are a lot more people cooking for the Kaiser, and I think the driver issues have all been solved now.
