Wifi problem!!! - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I have the new XDA terra (HTC herald) with original O2 WM6.
(btw - mostly similar to wizard - registry and all other)
And you may believe or not - the registry is set to
HKLM\Comm\TnetWln1\Pars\HTCPreloadWifi = 1
I set it back to 0 to get more Ram.
AND you have to push 2 times to get Wifi activated by commanager.
SO IT IS NOT a cooked WM6-Rom problem. Even with a real WM6 ROM i have to set the registry to 1 or I have to click twice.
Best regards.

good. one less reason to blame cookers.

Fast as wizard. Much thinner. Better keyboardslydeout = one handed possible.
BUT less ram - 23 after tweaking.
Benchmark nearly the same as with Core 2.0 on wizard. But perhaps someone is trying to port it to wizard??
ROM: 4.11.207.1 ger
Rom Date: 03/19/07
Protokoll 4.1.13.39

By default it is disabled. but you can get it back by installing WM6Voip.cab.
ANd when i got manged to cid unlock and backup rom. i can share the os if you want.
But first of all I wanted to share the info that wifiproblem is not cooked-rom related.

Until recently, I kept thinking it was an issue with connecting my Wizard with WiFi (which was always the case the entire time I've owned it). About a month ago I upgraded to WM6, where WiFi did seem to work right after a ROM upgrade, but then after a while wouldn't connect to my home network. And then while fiddling with the settings on my router, it would work, but again for just a couple of days then stop. What I realized was that for some reason, my wifi would work every time I reset my router.
And I just tested it before posting: Not connecting via wifi to my home network. Reset my modem, and I connected instantly via wifi. This might help some people, maybe not everyone. But this also may support that this is not ROM specific (and I'd guess this might also have been the case on WM5 when I had that installed).

WiFi internet issue on WM6

I`ve got a T-Mobile MDA with WM6 and I cannot access the internet through WiFi. The access point that I connect to is working cause I am able to access the net fine on my laptop. I made sure that my network cards are set to connecte to the internet. I even did a softreset after I made the changes.
My internet explorer just sits there on locating. I am not sure if its just my WiFi card configured incorrectly within WM6 or if its a reg setting that isn't set right.
If anyone had this issue before and got it fixed let me know or give me some direction to start.. thanks in advance for your help.
This is a fairly common problem. For me disabling the Wireless G option in the registry did the trick:
Registry: HKLM\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Key: dot11SupportedRateMaskG
Value: 1
so I diabled it, soft restet, verified that the reg change sticked, which it did. I tried to access the net again with no go.
me too
I have the exact same problem.
Not much discussion about this
I tried the G fix. Didn't work. Funny thing. It started when I installed MB. Downgrading DIDN'T fix it.
Try setting the the Network Card to connect to "The Internet" instead of "Work"
they are set to that..
That actually worked for me. (The Internet instead of work fix) I also made sure that all the boxes for "Server assigned IP address were checked. I could have sworn I tried that already. I wonder if it will stay "fixed". I'm due for a soft reset...seems to be working. I've been thinking all along it was some stupid setting.

check the change your dns to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 this may fix your problem

Changing to Internet and setting the DNS doesn't seem to help. Funny thing is, GMail via Midlet Manager seems to work (maybe its doing GPRS?). But IE just spins at Locating...
wifi internet issue on wm6
although i have the older version of t-mobiles' mda (wm5), i had similar issues connecting to the net even it sees a lot of wireless aps. either i cannot hold a steady connection or cannot connect at all. the solution i had was changing the channel on my wireless ap and updating my mda's parameters for my local wireless security. now i can go to the web using my mda even with poor signal quality. It is possible that you have several wireless ap's at your location sharing the same channel. hopefully changing the channel solves your problem.
simple possible solution, but check the proxy settings? I know with cingular, many people had trouble browsing the internet due to the MediaNet proxy settings. they removed the proxy settings and everything was fine then.
There is a known issue with your rom your running...there has been a new release. check the MB thread and you will see a recent listing about a 6 and 4 mb page pool, the wifi has been fixed.

I have the original MB edition and I do not have any wireless problems. I know he had to fix the re-released versions as the wifi did not work with them initially, but I was unaware of a wifi problem with the initial release.
WIFI problem don't even see networks
Hey everybody, still loving this phone and its diversity, but have flashed this little piece of hardware with the mb 4mb/6mb wm6 rom only to find that WIFI can't even be turned on!. And yes I've downed the fixed versions from a certain forum. When I turn on WIFI, It just gives the symbol in the top straight away. It just can't find the networks. I even manually added a network, it then tries to find it, but simply can't. WEIRD hey.
Is there a solution for this problem, cause I really, like the look and feel of the wm6 roms over the wm5 roms.
bye all and thanks in advance for the kind replies.
Did you try using WiFiFoFum at all to see if it can find networks? I have not had any issues with WiFi with the Most Beautiful edition whatsoever. Only thing I notice is that when the machine first turns on or right after a soft reset that I need to click the comm manager icon for wifi twice before wifi will turn on. Otherwise it finds and connects to networks perfect.
Problem with MIE
i have no problem to connect to my homenetwork with WIFI, but i cannot access the internet with the internet explorer. but it works perfect with the opera browser!
hmmm..
It's weird...
I never access the internet with the internet explorer even my wifi was connected successfully while I brushed wm6 rom.
A miracle has happened Today.
I install a WIFI Device for WM5, that one is simple Chinese language.
I tried to turn on the wifi but not work.
Then I uninstall it -> restar....
Then I tried one more time to turn on wifi, ok, it's work to connect but still can't open the web page.
I check the wireless lan, switch the power save mode to best performance.
Then....I can open web page????
Wow~~ I don't know it work cause the wifi device change something or just swtich to best performance.
Maybe you guys can try.

Issues with Windows Live Messenger

I have just installed a nice TNT 5.0 on my Qtek (Cingular 8125 like but called Qtek 9100 on Colombia).
I´m having an extrange issue regarding the GPRS-Edge internet connection of Windows Live Messenger, and I´m not sure if this could be because our cellphone provider, because of the newer 2.69.11 Radio I´m using or because of any other reason.
Actually the GPRS-Edge connection (It says Edge so it must be edge) it´s working like a charm on Internet Explorer or Opera. But when I try to conect to a Windows or Microsoft related website via Internet Explorer or Opera, the connection can´t be established (say http://mobile.live.com). This happens also when trying to connect to Windows Live Messenger using GPRS or Edge. It does not connect at all.
It´s almost like my cellphone provider has some exceptions on their gprs connection that makes connecting to a Windows or Microsoft server almost impossible.
Nevertheless, there is a walkthrough that curiously worked out and got me really pissed off as it happened a few times before I definetly could find out what was I doing that got everything working...
If I connect to the internet via Wi-Fi (By the way i´m not sure i must press the wi fi button twice on the command manager in order to get it up and running), I can do both things: log into Windows Live Messenger and use the full featured messenger client (send files, pictures, see avatars, send voice, etc) and log into any microsoft website (say http://mobile.live.com).
Til here, everything goes to the cellphone provider.
Here comes the weird thing:
If I turn off the Wireless network after login into messenger, the software automatically looks up for the lost connection and re-connects to the web using GPRS (EDGE) and manages to login successfull, so I can see messenger contacts and chat with them using gprs (edge). But I loose all the internet brownser ability to browse microsoft domains (mobile.live.com
I´m not sure if this has to do with the CHAP or the PAP GPRS autentication. I have tried both without waiting any time before attempts, with no luck.
Also, I´m not sure if this could be related to the EDGE network, as I previously owned a symbian sonyEricsson P910a that did not supported Edge but could connect with no trouble to Messenger through IMPlus.
I´ve also tryed the IMPlus version on the pocket pc with the same bad result as using directly Windows Live Messenger.
Any ideas?
Could it be possible to disable the EDGE network and use exclusively GPRS via Regedit?
Trying everything now. Even downgraded and upgraded again...
I can surf the web now using IE, even on the http://mobile.live.com site, but when trying to use Windows Live, i get a connection error and then a message saying
"Windows Live was unable to establish anInternet connection. Please check your Internet settings and make sure that you have access to data services under your billing plan. If you need help, please contact your mobile service provider.".
The incredible thing is that i´m actually using messenger beta directly on pocket internet explorer and it works, not quite nice, but it does, using wi-fi.
So why Windows Live can´t use this connection to log in?
Now, using GPRS connection, I try to log into http://mobile.live.com and it took too much saying opening... but it made it. But I was not soo lucky when i pushed forward to try to access the mail link on that site (that worked on wi-fi) as it got stuck at opening forever and finally it displayed an error. Same on any link under that page. It seems that it takes too long and crashes. But still I can go to any other site (Tryed www.sun.com right away and it downloaded quite fast a 200kb front page, so i´m not sure that this could be a Radio Issue.)
My Info:
ROM: 6.0.0.0 WWE
DATE 2/02/07
RADIO 2.69.11
PROTOCOL 4.1.13.30
ExtROM: Empty.
I´m trying windows-live-conection-fix from Faria right now...
Still when i try to login to messenger using windows live it says immediatelly There´s a connectivity problem.
I´m
i can't determine what is the exact error do you have, but i want to say it is working with me either with WiFi or GPRS, check out your settings carefully and try to set the settings as usual (don't use network wizard) and test.
I also can have intermittant connection problems using Messenger. It occurs on my Wizard (GPRS and Wifi) and on various PCs too. Before blaming the Wizard, consider it might be a problem with Microsoft and their servers. Usually on either PC or Wizard it will connect after a couple of tries for me. It could be that your provider has blocked the relevent ports or servers on your GPRS but I'm sure we would have heard from other users of your carrier if that is the case.
Ok. I´m from Colombia, and my carrier is called Comcel. There´s no Network wizard available for it at the moment.
Before unlocking my sim and messing up with the first wizard love upgrade (unfortunatelly i can´t find the original rom and probably i will need to extract it from my fathers phone if i can get a hand on it, but still will need to read all about it first...) I was able to connect to MSN without any issues at all. Even on my old symbian phone I used IM+ without any issues. Now that I upgraded it´s getting quite difficult.
Actually I can connect now without any trouble after a soft reset, using Wi-Fi, and it´s really nice. But I can´t get it to connect through GPRS (It´s definetly not a carrier issue as my brother has a WM5 wizard too that I won´t touch before I have this figured out first, and he can connect without any issues, quite fast, using an old 2.17 radio version on his G4).
The strange thing is that I can fly through the web (i´m now installing gmail-g.jar directly on my phone through gprs).
The strange thing is that when I go to www.microsoft.com or mobile.live.com i get stuck on Opening... and the GPRS connection goes too slow. Probably checking something...
It´s like under gprs there something going.
I´m aware that all the symptoms are saying something about carrier permits... but still with my sim card on my brother´s phone (it´s not my line) it works without any issues.
Now, I have started up the Wireless LAN again and it logged in right away on windows live messenger (it´s really nice...).
Then I went offline again, get the wireless off on the cellphone, get the messenger up and running on my vista computer, and then try to login into the phone using again gprs....
Miracle!!! I get logged out from vista!!!! but it doesn´t get all the way there on the mobile phone, as it get´s stuck on signing in... (Not enought)...
Now logged of from vista, I try to login again on the cellphone, no luck...
And loose the hability to navigate into mobile.live.com
Ok.
I do it one more time from scratch.
I soft reset my device...
then I go to internet explorer mobile and type http://mobile.live.com/
It starts the GPRS (Edge) connection right away... and goes to Opening... on the status bar... No luck.
But still I can download mail from the java applet of Gmail, and go to any other website, and even load google maps on the device under gprs...
So it´s a Windows Live issue that seems to have something against my gprs connection.
I was wondering if it has anything to do with CHAP or PAP autentication, but on my carrier they dont really know as they are charging me with their calls, as they don´t care, and I have tryed both but there seems to be no difference.
Anyway on my brother´s wizard the settings are exactly the same as mine on the gprs conection...
I will try to make my cellphone gprs connection work like a modem for my pc and then I will try to navigate the web and login into messenger from my pc using my cellphone gprs connection to see if i can do it, and then I will get back at you.
our network had this issue before, but they solved this later (thats b4 1-2 years)
Ok. I´m gonna try, one by one, the different radio versions that are on the radio-only forums.
Still if you know where can I get my hands on radios 2.17 and 2.49 (2.49.11) is the one that came originally with the phone and it´s the one that is on my father´s untouched wizard...
I´ll get back on you if i found anything...
By the way, does it has anything to do with the regional settings? Mine is Spanish Colombia even when i´m using your TNT 5.0 OS. Still I have run the keyboard spanish patch in order to get my keyboard layount right and i´m still only two signs off on the keyboard but it´s almost ok.
I know that this is not the place, but i´m off on the "D" key that it´s suppost to be a "+" but instead it´s showing the "Euro" symbol (don´t have that on my latin american pc), and on the C key it´s supposed to be a "Ç" instead there´s the "+" sign.
I had this issue the other day, luckily I work for the provider. The issue is with the gprs apn that you are using. If ur provider has multiple apns, then try another. If not u going to have to wait until they resolve their issues.
Dont worry, it isnt the phone and it isnt the ROM. I had the problem too when I just put tnt 5 on my device. Its a problem with the provider.
Thanks Mitchie55. So I will rest my case trying to flash, reflash, upgrade and downgrade radios, and try to trick out the registry for Windows Live security policies... Anyway, what´s exactly a GPRS APT and how can I check if my carrier has more than one GPRS APT? Are those ports? Can I check them under the GSM Test Mode screen (*#*#364#*#*)?
After all my messing around with Windows Live Messenger´s connection issues, i came along a Registry String that got my attention.
It´s not that I want to panic everybody, but on the TNT 5.0 Profesional with HTC Today release there´s a registry line that states:
HKLM\Services\Windows Live\Platform\Passport\PolicyExpiry
String 2007-09-25T19:16:57.9251948Z
I´m wondering what will happen on the 25th of September at 7:17:00 pm UTM...
Any ideas?

Its APN - Access Point Name. Thats what is needed when u create a Cellular GPRS connection to connect to the internet.
im having the same issues, im with rogers wireless in canada
everything works except for the windows mobile live
i updated the software and i'm running ver. 10.6.0033.0600
on an x7500/athena updated to wm6 (originally shipped with wm5 from expansys)
i contacted my provider and they said they dont have another access point name for me to use other then the default one they provide
and they claimed it was a windows mobile live issue,
i tried this in my treo 750 as well and still nothing is happening
thats 2 devices now that dont work ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....
i cant figure out what i'm doing wrong.

T-Mobile SDA (US) [HTC Tornado] WiFi Issue

Upgraded today to WM 6.1 by illi and rickwyatt using kar hoe's guide (great job btw very clear instructions ). I am wondering if anyone is experiencing issues with WiFi connectivity. I do not pay for a data plan and WiFi is very important to me. I tested today with my home access point and it seems that I never pass the "Connecting to Network" stage on the "WiFi Networks" page. It'll flash my AP's MAC address for a second or so, but no actual connectivity. I tried connecting via WAP-PSK security, WEP security and even no security.. all to no avail. WM 5 had this problem when AP's had low signal (it would flash the MAC/SSID and then move on to the next network), but never to the point where I could not connect. Also, I notice the WiFi icon shows as a tower with a halo and the three dots (/°\...) while it's trying to connect. As soon as it flashes the MAC/SSID the icon turns to a dead tower (/\). I was wondering if this is a known issue, and whether anyone has experienced and/or fixed this. Please advise... Thanks in advance
P.S. Excuse the crappy ASCII art in trying to get my point across. Pls let me know if you need more info.
I know that for my wep secure home network - I needed to add the phone to the network before it would be accepted. Just knowing the wep pass code was not enough
The phone would just loop trying to connect with no luck.
Not sure what software you are using on your network / wireless router - but this may be the issue.
Good luck
I normally use WPA-PSK encryption on the network. Its a linksys wrt-54g router. It runs in b/g compatibility mode. I even tried to connect w/o security period. It kept dropping after flashing the MAC/SSID.
well here's an update. i an still having issues with the wifi but i decided to spring for the data plan. it's only $20 us on top of the phone bill. i figured thats not a bad deal since internet is so important for me. i'm actually sorting this on my sda.
I do same as far as wifi (no data plan). I see you got one now btw, gl.
I use same rom and I got no problems with wifi, maybe you need radio update or something simple as that.
On my home network you need wep key and mac address added on my router in order to connect (just a thought); I use linksys and can post more details on this with pictures if needed.
Using wifi and Devicescape ain't that bad for me.

I had to reply just so others who didn't try this rom know its not the rom issue about wifi - I LOVE THIS ROM

hmmm... devicescape, you say? yeah that's definitely worth checking out. i'll play around with it at some point. you are totally right though, the WM 6.1 rom is awesome and I encourage anyone who is still running Windows Mobile 5 to go ahead and upgrade. Karhoe's guide is a very concise way to make this happen. i was actually looking to get a new phone prior to upgrading. i was thinking about getting the HTC Kaiser (TyTn II) although I was put off by the issue where it was released lacking hardware acceleration support for its ATI Imageon graphics processor. I haven't had a chance to play with the wifi on other access points yet, so perhaps this issue was specific to my home router.
P.S. Thanks for your reply!

Att Fuse Problem

Hello Everyone,
I just received a ATT fuse and for the life of me I cannot seem to get the WIFI to work. I've had the tilt and the 8125 previously and I tried duplicating settings to no avail.
Are there known issues with the WIFI on this phone?
I can connect to my WEP enabled wireless router, but opera and IE fails to connect and just keeps giving me errors. This is what I have read and what I have tried:
Setting to "work" instead of "Internet"
I've tried the cab files posted in another thread to disable ATT proxy
I'm a little lost in what to check. I did follow everything I've read here that came up in "WIFI" search. I have not unlocked the phone nor flash a rom.
Could someone lend a hand?
Sign up for the att media program...its on the attwireless site
This is a bit drastic, but an easy potential fix is to flash another ROM (after flashing Hard-SPL of course). AT&T often adds a bunch of unnecessary crap to their ROMs, which may interfere with normal functions. You could always flash the AT&T ROM back if you'd like.
Hi Animexi80,
I already have a data plan. The problem isn't with Media net, it is with the phone's built in WIFI.
Trancecoder,
Really, that drastic of a step.. Do you know of a rom that fixed a WIFI problem?
Thanks

Honestly, I never even gave the AT&T ROM a chance, so I was unaware of Wi-Fi issues. Pretty much any ROM should work. If you flash a Fuze-specific ROM, you may want to run the CAB that disables the hidden AT&T proxy. If you flash a generic Touch Pro ROM, you'll likely need to run a CAB that fixes the keyboard layout.
Ok, I suppose I will give it a go.
If I may ask, would you tell me which rom and radio you're running. It would help rule things out it it doesn't correct the problem.
thanks

What is the "hidden AT&T proxy?"
I just got an AT&T Fuze and after enableing wifi using the wireless manager, had no trouble connecting to home wireless networks with various security configurations (WEP, WPA, hidden SSID, etc.). Of course if the access point has the MAC filter enabled, the Fuze MAC address must be added to the allowed list.

I'm running an older PROven ROM, version 1.03. I'll be upgrading soon, probably to NATF's ROM. My radio ROM is 1.08.25.20, but (1) the radio ROM doesn't control Wi-Fi, so it's moot, and (2) it has not had very good battery life, so I'll downgrade back to 1.02.25.28 tonight.

It's a proxy setting, separate from the normal one under Connections, that is hidden. It's used to make things such as Cingular, er, Cellular Video work.

This is a bit off-topic, but FYI, anything below WPA/WPA2 cannot be considered secure. WEP can be cracked in minutes, hidden SSIDs don't make APs invisible, and MAC filtering is useless (except with WPA/WPA2) as anyone sniffing traffic can see client MAC addresses in the clear.
I have found that sometimes when I have both a "data connection" and a "wi-fi" connection that they phone seems to not lock on the wi-fi but tries to use a weak data connection so try turning off the data connection and see if that fixes the problem. Also give a soft reset a try as well.
Surprised by how few ppl are having wi-fi issues. I've tried about 6 ROMs now and have the same problem with everyone (guessing this proves its more of a hardware vs software issue)
I can locate and connect to a wi-fi network but no data transfers. I have to continually disconnect/turn off/reconnect over and over and finally I will get a connection..but if unit goes into sleep for a few minutes...I have to repeat.
Very annoying...no one else is having wi-fi issues?
Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven't reported back sooner. I wound up loading a different rom on the phone and away went the problem.
jank0023, I have no idea. I would flash the phone back to stock and return it for another if all else fails. In all my searching, here and elsewhere, there ahve been a handful of wifi problems I came across. It doesn't seem like that common of a problem afaik.

If its your router try another channel make sure its on a supported signal (a,b, g)... lastly ensure your router is excepting all devices. I know these are basic checklist items but sometimes these can get us. I had a laptop that would only work on channel 6 ;-).

Thanks guys for the suggestions...I don't think its related to my network setup as I have about 4 other devices able to obtain signals with no problems using DHCP.
Issues don't seem to be as severe on some of the most recent ROMs I've used but still not perfect.

[Q] HD2 wi-fi problem in cyanogenmod 7 v2.6

I've installed cyanogenmod on my HD2, and almost everything works perfectly. So far I love it, exept one thing: wi-fi is really unstable. Example: If I'm looking for apps in android market, it stops loading all the time. I can see this when the logos of the apps in the list wont load, and screenshots wont come up. But if I wait about 30 seconds it will work again. This doesn't happen when I use 3G, but that will be expensive after a while. Anyone know how to fix this?
Sorry for bad english, but I hope you guys understand the problem anyway
I had the same issue... You probably have a new virgin router? Anyway, re start your wifi router and try again
No, I have a D-link DIR655
Allready tried to restart it, no difference.
No solution,anyone?

It is difficult, because i can be either caused by your phones wifi, but alot more likely by local wifi hardware.
I have the exact same problem but I'm running CMYLXGOs Stock Desire HD 1.1.7n. I've tried many routers and changing router settings. I've read that some people open up their phone and check that the WiFi antenae is properly connected. I've haven't tried that yet because I was hoping that it was something specific to the ROM I was using, but after reading your post I'm thinking of opening my phone and checking just to make sure.
I also thought that it might be a radio problem, but I haven't found any mention of my current radio causing this particular issue. If I finally decide to crack my phone open and this solves my problem I will let you know.
HTC HD2
ROM: CMYLXGOs Stock Desire HD 1.1.7n
Radio: 2.15.50.14
MAGLDR 1.13
HSPL 2.08
Hi, Same problem on HTC Legend.
I have tried different routers at different places as well, wifi isn't stable although I found rebooting your phone fixes it temporary.

My wife and I both had HD2s, and I loaded the same android software on both phones. On my phone, wifi worked perfectly. Wifi had a weird error message on my wife's phone. So weird since wifi worked fine on WM for both phones. I couldn't figure it out... tried a hundred different things including new software for both WM (new radio, the whole bit) and tried other Android ROMs. Finally, I decided to just get her a new handset. A nexus S.
Don't know if that info is helpful at all. What I think you can take from it is that some hardware may be wired wrong for wifi to work on android ROMs. It may not be a bad idea to open up the phone like the poster above recommended.
Wifi experienced tech head
Due to some builds are just about stable with 3G connection i would say its the auto IP addressing protocol not functioning in time for appropriate task at hand, usig HD2 as wifi router always works! CONCLUSION: set a static IP address from within wifi advanced options. And if you don't know how to enter or what to enter i reckon more reading and learning needs to take place before messing with a fone that worked perfectly before flashing it and ya don't know one piece of programming or instruction sets from Os to Os!
if default router is= 192.168.1.252
dynamic named server= 192.168.1.252
subnet= 255.255.255.0
static ip for HD2 can be set within range of ya router settings so if my default router is 252 at the end, by standard default your range could be from 1 - 252
depending on how many devices are on the network, choosing 89 and middle numbers will guaranty no IP conflicts!
you can use the IP app to find out what ya subnet is or use ya laptop or PC!
Wifi actually isn't a battery drain this way as it doesn't need to assign to another IP address when wifi wakes up again if fone was sleepin!
