What's the dialer and the syntax it take?
I thought I could do something like "cdial.exe 1234567890" but that doesn't dial the number.
I would love to know this too. Anybody? I am beginning to think it cannot be done via shortcut because I have been searching for a few hours for an answer.

Bummer. That's what I want, but it doesn't work with WM5.

These tools are used with the PocketPC Phone Edition to make an SMS, Email or call from the command line.
This software is a replacement for my old tools, VJSMS and VJDialer.
This replacement is hopefully now Windows Mobile 2005 compatible. This new release features...

No, it seems to be just a .CAB file with extensions like .001, .002, etc.

No, but I got the MyFav thing in WM6 to work, so that basically gets at what I wanted to do: push a button to dial somebody.
why don't you use speed dial?
Yeah, that's what I was going to say. It's so much easier just to use Speed Dial.

Right, with speed dial, i have to remember things. I wanted a little button on my home screen that i could navigate too, press, to dial, like it was on the Treo.
MyFav does this for me now.
WM's phone book and speed dial both suck. This is how I do my own phonebook/speeddial, very easy, simple, convenient and universally accessible (locally or online).
Create an empty txt file and rename it to MyNumbers.htm. Add lines like this for each #:
<a href=wtai://wp/mc;123-456-7890>My Home Phone</a>
<a href=wtai://wp/mc;#737pppp1pp1234567890#pppp1p3>My Account Balance</a>
The first line is self-explained; the second line show how to check my account balance (PagePlus prepaid) by inserting automatic pauses and pin presses. This is obviously ideal for calling card dialing. wtai means wireless telephony application interface, supported by most phones. wp means public library is used and mc means make call function in that library. Another useful function is ap (add speed dial), which prompts you to add a # into your phonebook. More details here:
http://support.avaya.com/elmodocs2/avayaip/46xx/WTAI_Tags_Sample_Code_ver25.pdf
When you click on this file or its shortcut, your default browser will open this page and then you can click-n-dial. Of course you can place this page on your website, then you can use it with any your handhelds. I attached a sample here (rename it to .htm). If you have a ASP web server, you can use my XinNotes for phonebook/speeddial and any notes:
http://www.fixup.net/download/xinnotes.zip
<a href tel:1234567890>1234567890</a> is all you need
You might want to try callface, you can edit the calface.html and callface.html as you like.

Do you see graphic smileys in your Diamond2 SMS tab? I only see textual smileys, and HTC support said the only solution is to install a 3rd party program.
If none of you can see graphic smileys, what are you using to see them?
This post is not related with graphic smiles but as it is related with sms i will post it here and avoid several threads.
It happens frequently that when I switch on the display I receive de alert sound of a new sms. The sms was received before, sometimes a long time before but the alert sound only sounds when the display is switched on.
Anyone having the same problem?
Thanks

You mean the "flip album" interface in the "people" tab? Post a link to what you're referring to.
If that is what you mean, then just tap on the + button and add a favorite contact. This is a place you can store favorite contacts, ones that already exist in your contact list. Once you tap the + button, you can select a picture, etc.

They presented that on the Google I/O. You can send links, Maps, telephone numbers from your chrome browser (PC) to your phone. It opens then directly in the appropriate application like browser, navigation system etc....it's really cool.
i can't even download it because it says it's not supported for my phone or "this phone"
Um, the CRK file is a Chrome extension, the APK goes to your phone. It should work fine if you have Froyo.
Not bad. I'm able to send it web pages, how do I send it phone numbers?
Never tried, but my guess would be to type the phone number in the address bar and hit the send button.

Guys, is there a program that gives me predictive dialing for the android? I have Froyo.
I found Dial one or something like that and it works fine, BUT, there is a formatting problem and it puts the persons name on TOP of the date last called and all that and it makes it harder to read, AND looks ****ty!
I'm also using a program that makes my fonts bigger which might be interfering but normally, it doesn't.
THanks

Tried TakePhone yet? 30 day trial if you get it from his website, shsh.com, then buy it from him direct or from the market.

I don't see anything about predictive dialing but I can give it a try.

You could also try TouchPal dialer free from the Market. It's got predictive dialing and is a bit more speedy than DialerOne.
I remember I loved this on my T-Mobile Wing. I could type in 323 and dad would come up.
Nowadays, I just use the search button in the dialer to find the contact in question. Just type their name out haha.
It's bull****! You'd think that on a 700 dollar phone, this would be standard
THanks by the way, I'll try the latest suggestion.

Just go to his website on your phone and hit the download button. Chrome to Phone is a browser extension available in Chrome, Firefox, maybe other browsers, which lets you send a URL directly to the phone to download.

my droid incredible does this out of the box...
Well, I think that's common sense and the sad thing is, some HTC phones have it and some don't. Makes no damn sense at all.

What about the option of having LARGE fonts? Large enough for ol' farts like me?
NOthing. Gotta pimp my $hit to get apps on there to do it. Damn embarrassment to techs all over the world. They make a phone that can make coffee but they can't even figure out the simplest of things like hey, use the WHOLE screen for stuff, hey, have an option for large fonts, large icons, less space between icons and options for a large clock..

Youlu is faster than DialerOne but there are 3 things I'm missing here:
1. There is no * on the dial pad. I didn't find an option to call to phone number *1234.
2. With DialerOne I have shortcut to the call log screen and it appears with dial pad. I can start searching (T9 style) right away. In Youlu there are different tabs/screens for dial pad, calls log, contacts and favorites. If I use shortcut to calls log I have to do extra click for dial pad
3. In DialerOne there are few places you can press on a single line on calls log screen: 1. direct call, 2. calls log of specific contact, 3. mini-menu to dial, sms, face, mail to the contact or open contact details. It's less options in Youlu: direct call to the number or calls log of the specific contact (like if you got 3 calls from him and return one back)
I'm still wondering what best for me.
Ok. So my grandfather is a tech freak and he asked me to find him a good touchscreen phone, so I thought that WP7 would be a good choice for someone of his age because the size of the tiles...
He uses his phone only to make phone calls and to add/edit contacts. Maybe read (not write) a message once a week...
That's why I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is an app/tweak that would allow me to add a tile that would work as a direct CALL shortcut to a person it is linked to? The way Android and jailbroken iOS do...
Thanks in advance...
You can pin contacts to your homescreen.

You don't need to jailbreak the phone to do this.
Go to your contact list. Tap on the person you want to have on the home screen and you will find three buttons at the bottom. Click on the 'pin' button and you will have that person on your home screen! Simples.
EDIT; I meant you don't need to jailbreak 'a windows phone' to do this
And this might be better off in Question & Answers section.
To add to this also, you can make a group and pin it also to the screen, like "Family". When you click on the group it will only show those that you placed in it which you can click on to call, text ec.

Nope, just a shortcut to the contact card

By default it cannot. But an app could be written to do this. It will still require a confirm to call, similar to using the SmartDialer app.
There are plenty of apps that will take you to favorites to directly dial a specific number of a contact. Unfortunately, none of the ones I found allow you to pin that particular favorite to the main screen. Maybe I should write an app to do this.
How about "Lightning dial" app? It will save you a lot of homescreen tiles.
