CID Unlocking with new ROMS - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Quick (and maybe stupid) question from a newbie:
I have been looking around and reading all the threads about flashing new roms and I have one final question before I start.
After I flash a new ROM, do I have to go through ALL the steps again to flash a new Rom, (like flash it with the button ROM and then the T-Mobile Rom) or can I just flash a brand new ROM. Or does it depend on the ROM's themselves?
Anyway, I would like to thank everyone who posted all this great help on here, its VERY helpful and easy for anyone to understand.

Your question all depends on what you are flashing. Do you have a G3 or G4? If you have a G3, then once it's unlocked, you can flash away to your hearts content. No need to worry about downgrading or flashing extroms or IPL/SPL issues. However if you have a G4, if it's unlocked, you can flash anything you want (just be sure you're not flashing anyything with an extrom or IPL/SPL).

Im getting a little frustrated that people is too lazy to ready and research for its own.
Surf into the forum, do some research, this kind of question has been already answered in every thread of the forum. Oh my... no offense, believe me but please do some research.
Best regards.

Yeah, sorry, found it after I posted, it was actually on a thread about a specific ROM. Thanks TaurusBullba for the quick reply. Oh, and my 8125 is G3 and I just flashed AKU3.3 to it, works pretty good, but I'm already itching for something new.

You did the right thing by asking. Better to look like an idiot with a working Wizard than be a silent fool with a brick, right. Good luck on your journey. There are a lot of ROM's out here right now. Choose wisely.
BTW, welcome aboard.

Thanks, jwzg, right now I'm searching around trying to find info on making (or cooking, i guess) my own ROMS. There are so many great ones out there, but I have also loved customizing things myself. Thanks again everyone, your all very helpful around here.

I would like to personally thank "ajmoncrief" for taking the time to treat this new comer with respect and to make an effort to teach him. I see a lot of people get flamed for asking simple questions, and in some respect some of them need to be flamed because they don't read or ask the same question that was asked in a post just up the page. But this guy is reached out to ask and you took the time to teach , you are a credit to this forum. and I thank you.
Ed...
thank you

If you are still uncertain after reading up & studying, then feel free to contact me via PM @ ([email protected]). Donations are nice, but not required.
And thanks to you edbutler; no sweat...we were all noobs at one time. If you are still unclear after reading then yeah I'm sure you will find plenty of help in the forums, just remember to search for it first. My .02 is that sleuth's rom is is a pretty good start.

One other piece of information that may or may not be in the wiki is if you have a choice of flashing between a laptop and a desktop as your pc...I would highly recommend a charged laptop since you will protect yourself from power outages (especially in the critical step of flashing HardSPL). Other than that, its pretty simple and relatively enjoyable to customize your device to your own liking.

Flashing to Dutty's 6.1 Hybrid v2

Hi guys, I decided that my first ROM to flash is going to be Dutty's. Now, before you say "Read the Wiki" or "Read the Stickies" or "Read this Post" I already have, and I couldn't find the answers to these questions:
1. Do I have to HardSPL my device every time I flash a new ROM, or just once before the first one?
2. How can I upgrade/make sure I'm running Windows Mobile 6.1?
3. Do I flash a ROM before flashing a radio, or vice-versa?
Thanks

I have made the words i believe to be wholly untrue bold so they stand out more. Here is the link to the answer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282
Please don't clutter the forum with these kind of questions. I know that ALL of those questions are either self evident...or they have been answered 1000 times before.
Hes right, they're all there, i discovered this for myself after i asked the same thing!
I'm sorry if i sounded harsh. If you're feeling understanding, try looking through the threads in the "rom DEVELOPMENT" forum and see how many threads actually have anything to do with developing roms. Maybe you'll understand my frustrations.

In the interest of being nice, here's the answers to your questions. I know it's a little overwhelming when you first are taking the plunge.
1. Do I have to HardSPL my device every time I flash a new ROM, or just once before the first one?
you only have to flash hardspl once. Before you flash custom roms. Absolutely do nothing else till you've done this.
2. How can I upgrade/make sure I'm running Windows Mobile 6.1?
Any of the new roms that are released should be WM6.1 roms, so just try a few and see which you like the best...i personally love shogun's Death V2 rom the best of all that are out right now.
3. Do I flash a ROM before flashing a radio, or vice-versa?
It doesn't matter, most roms have compatible radios with them, but if they don't then just download a radio and flash it before or after the rom
thank you!
Mods please delete this thread.

Which is the best ROM for kaiser?

I've been browsing and searching this website all over to find some info on what would be a good shipped ROM for the Kaiser.
I know u guys r writing that everyone find his own way to setup the phone.
but Since it has the same hardware than I think there must be some good ROM version the people would recommend to use.
I know for sure that WM6.1 runs very very slow... (unless u have it otherwise).
I'm a real newbie to these thing and have no warranty to my phone so I don't want to mess with it much. So please help me out here.
Also how can check my phone to see if my currnet SPL is unlocked to flash and OS is coocked or shipped?
tnx

Yeah...basically what these guys said. Look it up.
People on here are glad to help but only after it is obvious you have tried to find the answer on your own.
Not again Please take the initiative to try ALL the ROMs out and choose which one you like best.
I've tried many of the latest roms like L26V12, Hyper Dragons III(HSUPA), ROMeOS4.5.1, DK SupaClean, KaiserMedia V2, NATF's ATT ROM, Garmin's DK3.1 and Final. I've found Garmin's DK3.1 and final are the best ones out there. I still need to tweak it a little like changing all the boot screen, animation, welcomeheah96, the radio and keyboard fix. After all that, I'm loving my phone again. Like everyone eles said: read, read, read, flash, flash, flash, play with it, play with it, play with it, find the one you like.

excatly what i did, went through 6 different ones in all (Duttys 6.1, ROMeOS etc) before finally settling on sleuths V3.0 as i felt it suited me more (and got my gps working!) the install/flash procedure was a doddle and everything happened as it should.
read the instructions on HardSPL, flashing roms etc and follow them to the letter!
you'll be flashing in no time! i cant belive how easy it was!

Update To WM 6.1

Hi guys,
So I downloaded 2 Roms of 6.1 found in this forum (the one from Dr Martin and the one from fireburned)
Now before flashing I have a question about the USPL.
I bought my phone factory unlocked. Do I still need to run that procedure before changing the rom?
Secondly, how do I backup my current ROM? (in case of it going bad)?
Thanks
mystical thing called search function
my recommendation, YES! but if you had used the search, you would had found out the answer yourself.... well, we all where new to this too, but a little bit of interest on the matter is really helpfull if you want to learn about it. asking "already-hunderts-of-time-anwsered" questions is just too lazy.
sorry, if i'm a little rude at you, but in the last time such question where asked just too much... folks, this is a forum, not a hotline!!
for your second question, do a search, and you'll found out why you don't need to backup the rom. if you still want to backup after this, if think, you'll find the answer on how to do it in the wiki...
If there is a SHIP ROM for your carrier, no real reason to backup since you can revert to this.
You will most likely need to use uSPL to temporarily SuperCID your device to allow it to flash any ROM as they are CID-locked. Unlocked simply means it does not have a network/SP lock on it.

I understand, but if it's something that comes up often, maybe the mods should make a static post about it? Thats usually to avoid ppl asking the same questions all the time..
Thanks for your input though
good point about the sticky. or we could add it to the wiki, i'll see what i can do in the next few days, but anyone is invited to contribute too (now i'm gettin' lazy, hihi)

Same situation here and I had to run the USPL proc to get the new ROM onto my device.
Thanks for all the input
I actually followed Dr Matin Gonzo's guide to update to his rom and it worked perfectly,
I even got to backup my old rom (using the wiki + the SDA Unlock tool)

Flashing the ROM

can someone post a good "how to flash a ROM" for beginners?
i looked in the ROM Development thread and read a bunch but can't seem to get familiar with all the terms.
anyway, i tried installing an HSPL, before flashing the ROM, and it said "Bad ID version".
now what?
and are these ROMs really worth it?
thanks
Just follow the instructions here...
And yes, custom ROMs are definitely worth the small effort, if you ask me.
But, if you´re fine with the stock ROM, you might consider keeping it...

The Noob Flashing Tut is as good as it gets. There is however also a video version if you really can't make head or tail of it and if that's the case I'd question as to whether you should be flashing in the first place. The HD2 is an expensive device to be doing things with that you are familiar with. It is a relatively simple process however and often sounds a lot harder than it really is. Just follow the steps and they really are Foolproof. If you got a Bad ID version error that means that the hspl version you tried is not the right one for your device.
This thread is in the wrong space and if you want help, ask your questions in the Flashing guide thread.
